Very Funny and Very Very INteresting book.......2000-02-04

its so amazing, this book had me in good spirits throughout (almost throughout). I get a lot of mails about how animals are being abused and this one made me happy. teaches how to communicate with your pet through mental communication, (i still can't do it yet maybe i didn't try, maybe my pet isn't interested) but has many many stories and VERY CREDIBLE stories on her conversations with all kind of animals I say BUY it. ITS So great as a gift for an animal lover! It reminds you why animals are here, with us today, to learn and encourages us to find harder for their right to live!

children, environment, nature.......2007-01-12

Charming story that opens many opportunities for discussion about the natural world. The fuzzheads are mythical creatures that provide life lessons in a gentle manner. Loveing support from family members, teamwork, strategies for finding the needed plant -- all terrific conversation starters. My 6 year old granddaughter enjoyed reading the book to me (about 1/3 of the words). I filled in the gaps, and explained concepts. Wish there was a fuzzhead hand puppet to accompany the stories.

Fantastical animals live among us.......2004-04-11

Trau has been teaching Little Yau the ways of healing. Little Yau is hoping that soon the Wise Ones will take her up into the mountains to continue her education. Her healing skills are put to the test when her friend Trup falls ill. The Wise Ones reveal that Trup has been poisoned (by weed killer sprayed in a human's garden), and the only cure is the thumbfoot leaf. The white furred cat-like Fuzzheads creatively face the dilemma of living in close proximity to humans. When the Wise Ones and Little Yau need to search the nearby human town for the rare thumbfoot plant, they don human clothes to disguise themselves.

The story is complemented by beautifully bright full-color illustrations. The smaller black and white sketches beside the text add details such as how Trup was poisoned and what Trau does to care for Trup while the others search for the thumbfoot leaf. Some of the illustrations are quite comical. Sure to generate giggles is the two-page spread of Little Yau attempting to run on two feet like a human, then giving up the pretense in favor of speed. Similarly delightful is the "Human Phrase Book" the Fuzzheads have studied in order to have (limited) conversations with humans.

A book to get you started........2007-05-31

If you're the type of person that likes to do things without a lot of theory, this is a great book.

I'm a novice gardener and the introduction gardening instructions just didn't have enough information for me. I decided to purchase Gardening For Dummies and various other books to satisfy my need for detailed information before setting some serious time, money, and effort into a balcony garden for my apartment.

This book has great ideas and did a good job of introducing me to different herbs and plants to grow to be used in cooking. But if you want to get more "hardcore" with gardening I recommend getting other texts as well.

A sweet useful gem of a book...........2003-01-08

First let me admit I am biased, since this gem is written by someone I know and admire, here in Northern California. But it nonetheless a gem of a book with superb photographs as well as excellent advise on Do's and Don't of raising a variety of herbs. I also like the book because it shows that one can successfully raise year round fresh herbs, and do so on an acre or on a small patio. And the author also covers edible flowers another favorite of my families.

Great little book............2002-09-19

LITTLE HERB GARDENS is a great book for the novice. The authors have assembled a lovely collection of photographs and interspersed them with succinct text that explains how to identify and select easy to grow herbs; when and where to buy them (spring, fall, summer, nurseries or catalogs, plants or seeds); how to pot them (containers, soil, etc.); and where to place them (balconies, patios, or in small gardens).

This little book will inspire you to create a green space in a kitchen window, an assemblage before a patio or balcony door, or a collection of pots on the balcony. Herbs grow best in full sunlight, so if your balcony faces south, you are in luck. If you live in a town house or have a small patch of ground you can think more expansively, but this book does not really deal with garden design, or the issues associated with herb gardening. Herbs are frequently garden thugs that run amuck in the open. I suggest you find a more in-depth book such as RODALE'S ILLUSTRATED ENCYCLOPEDIA OF HERBS if you intend to go beyond pots and are thinking of growing mints, yarrows, violets, or some of the other "easy" to grow herbs suggested by this book. RODALE'S book also covers the poisonous aspects of herbs. (Some of them can kill you.)

The last section of LITTLE HERB GARDENS briefly covers kitchen uses of herbs including making herb-infused vinegars and herb-flavored sorbets. If you want to know more, once again you will have to turn to something more comprehensive such as THE COMPLETE BOOK OF HERBS by Lesley Bremness. Even if you can't grow herbs, you can buy them at the farmer's market and some food stores. LITTLE HERB GARDENS is not the only book available for learning how to grow herbs or use them, but it will get you started.

Concise and Beautiful.......2000-06-16

This book has it all--eye-pleasing photography and concise, useful information. The heart of the book is an herb-by-herb description of how to grow the plants. It's organized in a unique way according to where you could keep them--windowsill or fire escape, inside porch, outdoor pots, pantry, etc. There are suggestions for special ornamental techniques (such as topiary) and recipes for culinary herbs. Finally, the book lists seed and plant sources in the U.S. All in all, a real pleasure to read.

Professional ColdFusion 5.0 is a chunky and comprehensive guide to Macromedia's Web application server. This book is suitable both for existing ColdFusion professionals and for those evaluating this technology against rivals such as Active Server Pages, JavaServer Pages, and PHP.

ColdFusion is cross-platform, and it integrates well with both COM on Windows and Java on any supported operating system. It has strong development tools, including ColdFusion Studio and Dreamweaver UltraDev, and following its acquisition by Macromedia these are likely to get better still.

The authors kick off with a "Getting Started" section, which explains installation, basic features, and key tools such as the Application Manager and ColdFusion Studio. There is also a thorough explanation of CFML (ColdFusion Markup Language), the core tagging system. A section on database essentials covers a wide variety of database servers. The third section has chapters on state management, templates, error handling, scripting, and drawing charts. The topic of XML and Web services gets a section of its own, followed by coverage of ColdFusion extensions using COM, CORBA, Java, and custom tags. The later parts of the book go into the details of administration, such as scheduling tasks, logs and archives, clustering and load balancing, security, troubleshooting, and optimization. There is a brief case study based on an auction site.

Packed with tips and example code, this is an excellent ColdFusion resource. It is disappointing to find nothing on Dreamweaver UltraDev, whereas the general material here on cascading style sheets and Dynamic HTML can easily be found elsewhere. Being a ColdFusion user group president, I give this book my seal of approval. This book is well written with easy to understand examples. It will help someone with no CF knowledge all the way to the experts. This book is well laid out and is enjoyable to read. I didn't know what to expect from Wrox on this. I have been a huge Ben Forta fan but this book is just as good as his (if not better)! If you want to learn CF, or just want to get better, buy this book. You will be very happy with it.

WROX books used to be the only ones I'd buy; after having a grand ol' time with the ASP and ASP Databases series. The Professional series has been a real disappointment (and waste of money!). The books tend to be more wordy than necessary and spend too much time on the obvious and too little on the abstract. Cold Fusion is a fairly straight-forward programming language. WROX has somehow managed to make it much more. Perhaps too many cooks in the kitchen; looks like they had 18 authors put this beast together.
Look elsewhere...

You only need this book if you wanna learn CF. I've found that even total begginers like me can read it. But it's written in a way that the authors are expecting the readers already another programming language. Like when they've talked about looping, they said that CF support For Next loop and didn't say anything other than that... Anywayz, it's a nice book.

Very useful.......2001-10-31

This book was a great addition to my CF Web Application Construction Kit by Forta. I found that the book explained topics fairly well,but there was a lack of code examples. I'm the kind of person that needs to see the syntax.

Also, I looked for hours on how to perform a simple multiple update using checkboxes. This book barely acknowledged them and provided no examples on how to incorporate them into a form using CF. I realize, however, that my incident may be isolated.

Great series.......2005-05-12

I have several titles in this series--they're great! The recipes are easy to make and clearly set out, and there is always an introductory chapter on the herb or spice covered by the book. There are several other titles in this series: coriander, ginger, garlic, chocolate, etc.

Bought but didn't use.......2007-08-08

I bought this book hoping to do some things with my kids in spanish. But it was a little too basic and my kids didn't have the attention span for some of the more interesting activites. I didn't really use it.
