Introducing Rosesville Pottery.......2007-10-12
What a good educational book. Anything you would won't to know about Rosesville pottery its there.
Great Coffee Table Book.......2007-04-10
EXCELLENT color photos of the pieces listed make this a visually beautiful book. Set up in three sections as Weller's early, middle, and late periods, with pottery lines listed alphabetically within each section. Years produced and history are peppered throughout sections. Easy to get around if you are familiar with Weller. Index lists patterns and major shapes, but could do better listing by animal name, etc. The reason I rated it as only average is that only a few pieces of each pattern are listed, and are not always listed together if they cross the time sections used. Going through ebay, I'm lucky to find one out of ten pieces to try to price. If you are hoping to use this as a pricing guide it is missing too many pieces. The prices that are listed seem to be pretty close, though. Overall a very pretty and informative book as long as you're not looking for a comprehensive pricing guide.

Weller Collector's Reference.......2000-05-25
This book was very helpful to me - I just started collecting Weller pottery since the beginning of this year. Although this book couldn't possible have every piece of Weller pottery photographed or drawn it is still a very useful and appreciated guide for any Weller collector. I am very pleased with my copy and would recommend it to anyone considering starting to collect Weller pottery or interested in placing a "ballpark" value on their Weller collectibles. There are some beautiful Weller pieces out there available for the discerning collector - with this book you are an educated collector. Good luck and enjoy collecting some Weller pottery - maybe our paths will cross?
Excellent resource for the Weller collector.......1998-08-22
This is the only book I know of that is dedicated solely to Weller pottery. It includes a very detailed history of Wellers conception and demise. A section on the prominent Weller artisans and all the known markings of the pottery is very helpful.
The main reason I bought this book though is for the color photographs of the different Weller lines. They are beautiful and it makes identifying pieces much easier. Besides a copy for myself I also gave one to my Mother-in-law for her birthday. We both love it!

Zanesville Stoneware Company: Identification & Value Guide
ASIN: 0764311492 |
Book Description
This comprehensive study combines a fantastic historical account with exciting, newly-discovered examples. Art pottery and tiles from the Weller, Roseville, J.B. Owens, and related companies were made variously from 1872 to 1967 in Zanesville, Ohio. The authors studied many private collections to find fresh designs and shapes in this highly popular collecting field. This reference provides in one volume a full account of the companies, shapes, glaze lines, and values on today's market.
Customer Reviews:
Not A Good Choice, Buy The Bomm Roseville, or Huxford Weller.......2001-07-31
The book was well conceived, but poorly executed. The idea of covering all of the Zanesville art pottery makers within one text is definitely a good one, but the success stops with the concept. There are much better choices for each of the individual liines, with the Bomm & Huxford Roseville books much better, and the Huxford Weller more complete in spite of it's perceived 'datedness'. The photography from some dated price guides is used and the color reproduction on these is poor. The few original photographs are well done, but there are very few of these. The Roseville lines are not separated, so using the volume as a reference is impossible. In fact, the Roseville section is nothing more than a reproduction of the old Purviance price guide, and the mis-information in that guide is sometimes reproduced here. The Weller section is done the same way, but at least there are a few new photographs in that section. If this is an example of how future Schiffer books are to be published, then they just lost a long time good customer. Surely they could have done better with a subject matter so wide and complete. Your money is better spent elsewhere. JK

Customer Reviews:
Excellent scrapbook inspiration for adults.......2006-01-15
I have been doing crafts for over two years, but have never done done any scrapbooking except to put photos in albums with littel or no embellishment. As I don't have any kids, I thought SCRAPBOOKING YOUR ADULT YEARS would be a good place to start. I was not disasppointed. SCRAPBOOKING YOUR ADULT YEARS contains chapters on all the major categories in adult life. Besides having general tips for "time-efficient scrapbooking," SCRAPBOOKING YOUR ADULT YEARS has the following chapters: This Is Me, Love Stories, Family Matters, You've Gotta Have Friends, Just for Fun, and More Than a Job. Although Family Matter does have layouts that include children in the photos, it is for the purpose of the scrapbooker looking back at their own childhod. There are a variety of layouts using a wide range of paper and embellishments suitable for pages featuring both men and women. I enjoyed the book so much I have sticky notes on practically every page marking the ones that inspired me! I have since checked out from the library another of the author's books that is also excellent called SCRAPBOoK PAGE DESIGN. It has the most information I've found on general design tips with also detailed descriptions of examples. I would suggest both these books to anyone interested in scrapbooking.

The Verneys
ASIN: 0297832743 |
Book Description
A splendid illustrated history of the myth and reality of English cottage life over the last seven centuries, with 240 photographs, paintings, and drawings. Now in paperback. Whether Cotswold stone or a harmonious blend of timber-frame and thatch, the English cottage is an enduringly romantic symbol of country life at its most seductive. The ideal of cottage life is one that has tempted writers and artists for the last 200 years, but as this volume reveals, it was not always idyllic. From the medieval village to the 20th century, architectural historian Adrian Tinniswood traces the history of the cottage, exploring how they came to be built, the materials used to build them, and how they evolved. The focus of the book, however, is firmly on people: how cottage dwellers spent their time, what they ate and where they slept, and how they decorated and furnished their homes. A lively portrait, richly presented with 240 illustrations. Adrian Tinniswood is the author of Historic Houses of the National Trust and Country Houses from the Air. 216 pp 9 x 10 1/2 120 color & 120 b/w illustrations

Book Description
The English are geniuses at mixing practicality with beauty, as this rich visual anthology of handsome cottages proves. Trace the evolution of these charming homes, from early railway cottages and "improvised" dwellings to model cottages erected by philanthropists and the bucolic follies dreamed up by 18th-century aristocrats. "The cottages are treasures, the eye is bewitched for a long time."--The Sunday Times.

Book Description
Victorian painters idealized English country life as a place of carefree children, charming thatched-roof cottages, and pretty flowers. Here is both the nostalgia and the truth of that world--drawn from period artwork and from the era's great writers such as Thomas Hardy. See how the cottages were built, how they looked inside, and what activities took place there, from harvesting to crafting. These beautiful watercolors offer a tantalizing view of a pastoral paradise.

Victorian Cottages by Andrew Clayton-Payne.......2001-08-21
This is a wonderful book for the lover of the old English cottage painters of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. It is filled with full colored pictures on every page of the paintings and describes life in these times. A great addition to anyone's library who is interested in these times and the painter's who so aptly captured a way of life long gone. Paintings by Allingham, Strachan, Stannard, Foster and others are included.

Book Description
If the traditional thatched roofs and mullioned windows of the picturesque English country cottage have piqued your curiosity about their interiors, open the doors, come inside, and look! Their clever and imaginative owners have found so many delightful ways to retain that old-fashioned charm while not at all sacrificing modern comfort. In Cornwall, little staircase windows in thick cob walls display a selection of 19th-century bottles. A Devon home still has a log-burning stove. The washhouse of an Oakhurst cottage allows a glimpse of another century. The fruits of a countrywide search, from Berwick-upon-Tweed to the Lizard peninsula, all these cottages show both those quirky imperfections and beguiling architectural details that reveal poignant reminders of past generations.
Customer Reviews:
Highly recommended........2003-12-23
This is one of my favorite (non-fiction) books of all time. It is not your garden variety decorating book, and doesn't pretend to be. In subject matter it is a bit more about architecture rather than interior decoration, with an emphasis on traditional. I think the text is excellent: witty, charming, down-to-earth, very informative and not long-winded or padded out. The photography is superb, giving excellent and well-lit views. Most of these rooms are decorated with some antiques, and the captions give you some information on these. If you love traditional cottage architecture, and English country decorating on the somewhat modest side -- no fancy houses here, these are cottages -- you might love this book as much as I. Highly recommended.
Misleading title, lackluster book.!.......2003-01-23
I was expecting a book with pictures of english decorating style. This is certainly NOT THAT. It is on the small side, so if you're looking for nice photos, forget it. It just wasn't what the title led one to expect it would be. Dissappointing!
The Real English Cottage.......2002-11-20
I bought this book last year and have looked through it many times. It is a true pictorial look at the REAL English cottages.

Customer Reviews:
Excellent Resource.......2007-01-03
I found this book to be very informative and full of practical advice. Some reviewers freaked out about certain statements made in the book-but I personally didn't see anything wrong with his experienced viewpoint. Especially, the part about trusting your insticts and the breastfeeding advice. With my first child,I wish I had more confidence and could have stopped breastfeeding after I knew she was full (instead of sinking into depression after breastfeeding my colicky child nearly non-stop). He is right in line with what my muffled insticts said- and now say proudly. Overall, I felt this was a wonderful book.
Great book for a new mom.......2005-09-10
It's nice to finally find a book with helpful advice that you can find easily. I found that when my children got sick or had a problem (usually in the middle of the night), I'd turn to the larger books "table of contents" and not find exactly what I was looking for, or shown 5 different places in the book to look and none of them for what I needed... Then came along Dr. Weinberg's book.. very basic, easy to find guidance. What a lifesaver for any new mom...
Note - Some of the advice he gives is not what doctors are suggesting any longer, but my feeling is common sense... that's what he advises!
Very Outdated! Information not acceptable now!.......2000-09-25
The author may be a pediatrician, but he is not obviously up to date on new information. Some of the advice he gives is not even advised nowadays.
First off, he starts his book by saying that mothers have depended too much on baby care books and not enough on their intution, and that whatever the parent feels is right for them and their baby, they should go ahead and do,but then the author goes on to tell parents and mothers how to raise their kids!
He gives so much outdated information that it's ridiculous. He advises breast-feeding mothers to only nurse 20 minutes at a time, 5 minutes per side and then says that if you nurse more than this, your baby is only using you as a pacifier and you shouldn't allow it! He goes on to say that formula feeding is fine if you just don't feel like it and that ANY formula will do and even gives a recipe for making your own! Pediatricians nowadays advise against this and say that it is dangerous to do.Then he advises using a pacifier "So the parents can have hours of peace and quiet"! That is not a good enough reason. If all you use it for is to get peace and quiet, why have a baby? Then he advises giving rice cereal to 3 week old baby's to help them sleep through the night, which many doctors tell you does NOT work and is also not safe because infants can't swallow solids very well, but he advises waiting to start solids at 6 months, BIG contridiction! Lastly, he says that you should put your baby to sleep on his side and not his back because he might choke to death on vomit! Again, they advise now to put them on their backs and not their sides and say there is no evidence that they will choke.
Well I agree that he is up to date on SOME information, like the chicken pox vaccine, he is way off on most of the other information.I advise new mothers to skip this book. There are many other books that are more up to date then this and even better suggest that you trust your instincts!. Nancy
Upbeat, Reassuring & 100% Readable.......2000-02-23
This little book has such an adorable cover I've bought at least 10 for baby-shower gifts and just stuck on a big bow! They've always been a hit, especially with younger mothers who feel intimidated by those books with the endless charts of average heights and weights, etc. The contents are just as attractive as the cover, as Doctor Weinberg covers every topic about babies from how to feed them, dress them, toilet-train them, right thru the vaccinations and childhood sickness, into the teen-age years. There are great little bullet points with advice on almost every page, and every subject. I'm a dedicated mother and I found nothing to argue with. All in a book small enough to throw in a diaper bag and take to the park. This book will also appeal to people who may not have the inclination or habit of reading books at all. Every baby deserves informed parents, and this book is a worthy addition to anybody's library.
The Pediatrician's New Baby owner's Manual.......2000-01-07
This is a concise, well written and practical book, that Parents and Grandparents can use to get quick information on how to raise their child. Any family that does not have a grandparent or other older relative near by to help in the first few years, will benefit from having this book as an easy reference.
