Warman's Carnival Glass.......2006-03-10
Beautiful colorful photos. Very easy to read and identify patterns. SO MUCH TO LOOK AT!!!
Excellent Book.......2005-10-08
Another excellent identification book by Ellen T. Schroy. It is well organized and the beautiful color pictures are clear for pattern identification. She identifies the maker, the colors which were produce, the known forms, the identifying characteristics, and the prices at the time the book was written. There is a section showing and describing the colors of carnival glass, and an explanation of how to determine the color of carnival glass. Also included in the book is a time line and information about each glass company during the Carnival Glass era. This book is one of the best for identifying pieces of carnival glass. I use it more than any of my other books. It is my favorite! I highly recommend it to every beginning collector!

Highly Recommended.......2007-09-27
This book has many beautiful projects. It is one of the top two books in my large collection.
50 pretty project ideas .......2007-09-21
This book follows Heidi's Simply Beautiful Beading but it stands on its own by showing techniques to make the projects shown. There are well-defined photographs of necklaces, bracelets, earrings, and fashion accessories. None of the projects are particularly difficult to make once you know the basic techniques, briefly shown at the front of the book.
Love Heidi Boyd's books.......2007-08-31
I've recently discovered Heidi Boyd's bead books. I love her ideas and instructions. They aren't "way out there" but are original, simple designs and the instructions are very visual and easy to follow.
Beautiful book.......2007-05-19
This is a beautiful book. Almost every project in it was something I would want to make, and they all are in the range of beginner/intermediate in complexity. Instructions are clear and easy to follow with excellent pictures. A great purchase.
A beader's must have!.......2006-02-09
I purchased Heidi Boyd's first beading book and loved the simple, yet beautiful ideas. The project ideas in this book are so elegant, yet simple for the beginner or avid beader. If you are new to beading or have been beading for a long time, you should own this book, I highly recommend it!

Customer Reviews:
Best resource book for the beginner or established jewelry designer.......2007-07-22
This is by far one of my favorite beading books. In fact, I have two copies! The designs are beautiful and the materials used are really lovely, but what I like most about the designs is the way they are laid out. There are clear details about how to make each project, along with detailed component lists, as well as where to buy the components, sometimes line drawings showing in detail the patterning and placement, and beautiful color pictures. I also like that the author indicates an approximate price range for the piece (like this will cost aobut as much as a movie ~$20) and the approximate time it will take to put it together. Although the designs are not very complicated they are very lovely and they are really good for the beginning or casual designer. But they are also varied enough that I can use them as a starting point in my own jewelry designing. Great book to have as a reference in your jewelry library.
My favourite beading book.......2007-04-24
I have a lot of beading books and this is my favorite. I love the author's style and have found so much inspiration in this book. There's also good, detailed information for beginners.
Genuine Style for Beginners.......2005-11-30
This book is a terrific combination of simple techniques and artistic merit. The diagrams are a pleasure to follow as they are printed--and inspire the reader to improvise and make variations according to personal taste.
Delightful book, full of ideas and information.......2005-04-05
I am a beginning beader and I found this book to be wonderful! I purchased this book because I enjoyed just leafing through it and looking at all of the projects inside. Many of the designs offered me inspiration for my own jewelry creations. One thing that made this book stand out when I looked through it was that the margins were used to show the jewelry and point out what kinds of beads were used in each design. This made it really easy to see the design impact of different types of beads and help me to select what elements I want to use in my own jewelry.
The book also contains instructions on how to create the jewelry and lots of helpful hints and background information. She includes comments on such things as what to consider when purchasing beads over the internet and where to find the tools you will need (maybe in the toolbox in your garage!). Lots of good, practical advice.
I found this book to be very informative and inspiring. I can't wait to get back to my beading!
Book Description
More is better in this hefty collection of adornments for all occasions. One hundred projects are organized by season for ease of selection, whether it's the season for a summery Daisy Chain or Petal Rope necklace or the weather for an autumnal Fringed Pendant or Pearl Lozenge necklace. Also included are up-to-the-minute earring designs, sophisticated chokers, and the newest trends in brooches. Designs draw from a huge variety of materials, from tiny seed beads to stunning focal beads made from stone, shell, or bamboo. Each project is like a recipe, with a list of needed materials and tools, numbered instructions, and the size of the finished piece. There is even a technique section to prepare beaders for every method they encounter, making this book a primer for those just starting out and a well of project ideas for those with more experience.
Customer Reviews:
Quantity, not quality.......2007-07-20
The book is definatly a case of quantity, not quality. The book had nice pictures, but the directions were impossible to follow. They are incredibly vague, and the author doesnt even tell you what part of the necklace you nare making. The author would of been a lot better off only putting half of the projects in the book, and writing more detailed, step by step instructions. Even if I could follow the instructions, I probably wouldnt of made any of the projects anyway. They are all very old fashioned and just not wearable. The colour scemes on some of the necklaces, such as the dichroic triangle are awfull. I suppose this book would be more sutable for the older, more experienced beader
A Pretty Good Book.......2007-07-08
This book has both it's high and low points. I've enjoyed looking at the different necklace designs and the 'basic skills' section has been very helpful. However, I've found that some of the instructions are vague or otherwise less than helpful. If you have an intuitive sense of what you're doing (or are willing to experiment) that's fine, but otherwise things can get a little confusing.
Senior Citizen Style.......2006-10-14
I too believe that the instructions are vague but the pictures are nice. One star for effort and one for the pictures. I also think that all the designs are for old ladies. Yuck, wouldn't recommend this book to anyone. Well, unless I didn't like them.
Not what I had hoped for.......2006-09-11
The photos, illustrations, and layout are beautiful, and at first flip through I found several pieces that I wanted to make, but when I began working on them I found the directions to be incredibly vague. This is not a good book for a beginner to learn from. I am generally very good at learning new skills from books, but the information just isn't there. I found I had to refer to other publications to figure out techniques and then guess at how to make the pieces shown here.
DISAPPOINTED.......2006-07-27
I recieved the book yesterday. Alot of the designs and projects are relatively simple to make. I find that the same designs are repeated throughout the book. As with lariats, chokers, and simple strung neclaces. The instructions are vague, and many times are left up to the student to figure out. There are diagrams, but no threadpath to find out where to start or end. In many cases there is NO threadpath at all. There are better designs and instructions in bead magazines.
I don't recommend this book, I am only an advanced beginner and bored with it, and disappointed!

The most effectivet book in helping families of alcoholics so far.......2006-08-16
Since a friend sent me this book some ten years ago, I have considered myself very lucky to be in possession of such a fine book.
For those who are interested in understanding the wide and wild effects of the world's commonest drug, alcohol, this is the book. it helped me understand how the power of drunkenness affects the individual and those around, and how they in turn react. I could not find a line that Michael Elkin wasted in this 300 page book. It helped me understand the disease of alcoholism better.
Whatever your interest in the subject of alcohol, this book will take you further especially if you are interested in understanding how this clear substance called alcohol is capable of producing such extra-ordinary pleasure as well as such extra-ordinary pain.
I would like to read every paper Michael Elkin has written on the subject of alcohol if I could find it. Any help?
Families Under the Influence.......2000-01-28
I am a librarian in a public library. I first examined your book when a patron requested information on alcoholism and I was checking publication dates of materials in our collection. I found this book to be an excellent diagnostic tool, as I was dealing with the same problem at home. The book clearly defines the characteristics of an addiction. It provides a lens through which to see what is actually going on in a family where addiction affects everyone, not just the drinker. Armed with the knowledge that we can only change ourselves, it provides the reader with concrete approaches to the problem. It describes attitudes and actions that inadvertently feed the addiction as well as those that serve to intervene in the control addiction has over the whole family. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who suspects that alcohol may be a problem in their home. In this case, knowledge is power.
