Customer Reviews:
The book has 900 photos.......2007-03-26
In answer to the last review, the book has 900 photos. Nearly all dolls have pricing for both eBay and also non-eBay sources, and the methodology for pricing is clearly set forward in the first chapter. Each secton on a particular doll also has a market analysis for that doll.
Not enough pictures........2007-03-04
I found this book not up to par with some other doll collecting guides I have. It doesn't have enough pictures. I don't know how the author came up with some of the values. -It seems she just searched Ebay to find what the dolls were worth, I could have done that.
The Official Price Guide to Dolls (Official Price Guide to Dolls).......2006-01-15
This book was helpful in finding the value of some dolls, the pricing was pretty acurate compared to other books
The Official Price Guide to Dolls.......2005-11-05
I think that this book is very helpful, lots of information for a very resonable price
Great information on a vast number of doll types. .......2005-09-09
Once you start collecting one type of doll, your eyes start noticing all the other dolls as well and you begin to realize that dolls have an important connection to fashion, art, history, and technology. The Official Price Guide to Dolls by Denise Van Patten gives testimony to that thought shared by many avid doll collectors.
I like her easy-to-read format of the doll listings and photos. Her contemporary presentation of up-to-date facts prefaced in each category give straightforward details regarding the dolls' features and histories. Investors and buyers alike will find the pricing information helpful.
Denise does a super and thorough chapter on educating the doll collector on how to use the Internet and Ebay for buying and selling dolls. This informaion is priceless for many who are anxious to learn about this important technological impact on doll collecting and how to get started. She generously shares her best tips and pitfalls one should be aware of.
The book itself is of managable size and fits in your purse to take to a doll shop, show or museum. It is well worth the reasonable price for a great reference tool plus it makes a sweet beside book of dreams for the insatiable doll collector.
Customer Reviews:
Good but...........2005-01-18
I am no expert at gi joe collecting but I did not find what I was looking for in this book. It has very nice color pictures but is extremely specific and repetitive. This may seem good for some people but not for me. It does not include the spec for the Deep diver, vehicles and some equipment. Also it does not include many boxes that you can easily see on the net. I do not know if I can rely in its price guide also. The book is mainly focused in showing one pic of single items and in describing the subtle differences between one series and another of the SAME figure in almost all cases. The format is in two column and you have to go reading from the top to bottom and to the top again so it becomes kind of confusing to read at first.
I will conclude that this is a nice book if you are looking for specific information and not if you are looking for a visual aid to see what item goes with what to complete your collection.
If you want it anyway try to find the lowest price.
But anyway do not forget to HAVE FUN!!!
A useful tool.......2002-03-15
A straight-forward catalogue of Joe figures and accessories from the beginning through the 4" era and on to today. Black & white pictures are plentiful. Not the book for blissful page-flipping and reminiscing, but definitely the place to turn for organizing your collection.
Correcting a reviewer.......2000-03-23
I would like to correct a statement made by reviewer Andrew Walls regarding the "official" status of GI Joe: An Official Identification and Price Guide (1964-1999). This book, like others written by Vincent Santelmo on GI Joe, was licensed and the manuscript was reviewed and approved by Hasbro Inc. As Acquisitions Editor at Krause Publications, I was involved in every step of this legal process. I can understand the reviewer's confusion since many publishers don't take the necessary steps nor commit the time and expense to create licensed or "official" books.
Neither Complete, Nor Official.......2000-01-02
This book has some useful information on uniform and figure variations, but it is far from being a complete guide to G.I. Joe. For a more complete reference to every vintage boxed and carded figure and equipment set, check out this authors other book, The Complete Encyclopedia to G.I. Joe (1997 Krause Publications). Although it is primarily black and white, it is the most complete and comprehensive guide to in-package G.I. Joe stuff. When I first heard Vinnie was doing this book, I assumed it would be as complete and comprehensive as his previous book, only in full color, with a focus on individual and out of package stuff. While there are values for individual pieces of equipment, and many sets are photographed out of package, not every set and piece of equipment is covered, mentioned, or even listed in the book. This is obviously not due to a lack of knowledge on the authors part, but may be due to publishing considerations. I can only speculate. Perhaps Vinnie only had a limited number of pages to work with and realized he wouldn't be able to get it all in. If that's the case, perhaps he should have omitted the sections on 1980's and 1990's Joes and focused exclusively on the vintage 60's and 70's stuff. I like the format and the idea of the book, it just seems as if it's only about 1/4 complete. As a supplement to Vinnie's other book, this is okay, but don't expect to gain a comprehensive knowledge of Vintage G.I. Joe from it. This book was not licensed or approved by Hasbro, so the term "Official" in the title is somewhat bogus.
A must GI Joe reference for the "Avid" Joe Collector.......1999-11-17
A very informative and concise detail presentation of the 'Singled Boxed' GI Joe's and the 'Packaged Sets' he was sold with . Wealth of detailling; Right down to the different type screws used on some fiqures. Well done. A 'must have' reference for any serious collector.

Fabulous book for the Dawn doll collector!.......2002-06-30
This was the first book that I purchased before starting my Dawn doll collection. I played with Dawn and her friends as a child but didn't have any of my dolls. All the pictures in the book are wonderful and help you identify the 'authentic' Dawn doll stuff from the imitations. I didn't even realize that there was so much stuff about Dawn. A very fascinating stroll down memory lane. I refer to this book before purchasing ANY Dawn dolls or accessories. A MUST for any Dawn doll collector!!!
Good guide.......2002-02-09
Lots of great pictures.
Did not like the value format
THE BEST DAWN DOLL RESOURCE AVAILABLE!.......2001-08-05
A wonderful book with so many incredible photos I could not set it down until I looked at absolutely everything! Beautifully done with great photos of one of my favorite childhood "friends," Dawn. Brought back special memories for me, and also reminded me of Dawn clothes and accessories I had forgotten over the years. I loved seeing each outfit modeled by a doll too. One of the best parts for me was the chapter on knockoff and copycat dolls and toys. I was able to identify a Dawn knockoff doll that I had been previously unable to! Thanks! A great book for the new collector (like me!) or the veteran collector.
The Most Amazing Dawn Book !.......2001-07-09
This new Dawn book is a must have for the Dawn collector! Even if you are just starting out, you should see this book. You will find this book to have large and clear photos. Very helpful to see details! The author shares her amazing collection and has some unique hard to find and variations. Other books did not do justice to Dawn dolls. I find myself scanning this book over and over. The price guide is pretty accurate in helping you seek out these lovely ladies. Thank you for sharing your collection with us Benita Schwartz!

not complete.......2004-07-01
not a complete list of dolls. several older dolls not listed
The Official Precious Moments Collectors Guide to Co. Dolls.......2004-03-31
We have been waiting for this book for a long time. It's great to have a book with all the dolls together. Pictures are great, size is just right, so much information.
Thanks to the authors.
Good try but look for another book.......2003-12-19
This book as some good information but a lot of misinformation regarding dates of release/retirement/status. The pictures are pretty fuzzy so don't count on detail. A lot of the information was copied directly from the old Greenbook and Rosie Well's price guides. No original thoughts contained in this guide. Where did those Secondary Market prices come from? Little research and a lot of regurgitation involved here. Look for another guide.
Customer Reviews:
Unreal.......2007-06-06
I cannot praise this book highly enough. While I have most of the other G.I. Joe books, this is without a doubt my favorite. The pictures and level of care and detail are so perfect that they are the next best thing to owning the toys themselves. It's also a great reference tool for collecting and posing your own finds. I take it out and look at it constantly.
Most of us will never have the time or money to put together a collection like this, but we can enjoy the fruits of the author's work via this amazing book. If you love G.I. Joe, even just a little, by all means BUY this book. For those of us who dreamed and longed for the pictures we saw in the old Sears "Wish book" catalogs, here is the dream!
Great photos!.......2002-10-11
This book has a lot of great photos, mostly in color. The information is pretty good, but there are some areas that seem to have gaps in the narrative. I also would have liked more in-depth information relating to Hasbro instead of mostly the kind of information that you can get from a list. The book tells you when everything was released, what year, who did what, etc. But it lacks any human warmth, and there are really no warm stories of the original creators sitting together and working on GI Joe. Sadly, most of the GI Joe books totally ignore the human factor, aside from giving credit to the names of the people who designed, invented, patented, painted, funded, etc. The book is great for photos, and lots of interesting information. Sadly, it is not a warm, fuzzy book about a children's toy!
Terrific G. I. Joe photos.......2002-03-12
Plenty of useful and interesting information here, but the real appeal is the generous collection of photographs of vintage Joes and equipment in their natural element : on bivouac, at sea, ready to roll. These are the kind of set-ups that used to make me salivate as a kid and it's fun to revisit via this book.
My husband enjoyed it..........2001-05-17
I bought this book as a gift for my husband, who recently began collecting GI Joes. He was very pleased with the book and you can frequently find him browsing it, especially after he receives his catalogs/magazines.
Brought back a level of real childhood joy........2001-03-17
I bought this book to help me prepare to sell off a number of GI Joe items on eBay. My plan was to sell the book too, after my collection was sold. Well, things change; this book is a keeper. It really recaptured the fun I had had of collecting and playing with GI Joe. The photographs are of the kinds of scenes I'd have loved to create for myself (if only my collection had been this good). The text reads as if you were listening to guy with a great sense of humor warm up to his favorite topic. Thanks Mr. Depriest for a job really well done.
Customer Reviews:
This information has a TON of errors in it.......2007-10-09
If you want to see photos of figurines, get the guide. If you want accuracy and information about the pieces get another guide.
1. There are pieces included in the guide that were never produced.
2. There are a lot of mark errors throughout the guide.
3. Basic PM information in the guide is completely wrong which lends you to believe that the authors are definitely not PM collectors.
highly recommended.......2007-05-15
I really enjoy this book. It helps me keep up with the precious moments I buy, what I spent on them and how much they are worth.
Great guide but incomplete........2007-04-02
I'm glad to finally have a book to use as a guide to how much my collection is worth. However, I felt I couldn't give it 5 stars because the book is incomplete. I have pieces in my collection that aren't even listed in this book. I enjoyed reading the information about the creators and the inspiration for some of the pieces.
Precious Moments Collector's Guide.......2007-02-20
Terrific book with each figurine in color. One reason for not giving it 5 stars is the way the book is set up. The figurines are placed in figurine mold number order. It would have been better to place them in categories such as regular Precious Moments, Baby, Wedding/ Anniversary, Nativity and Mini Nativity, Club pieces and Ornaments. It would enable finding your pieces much faster than using the mold number.
Finally a new edition!.......2007-02-12
It was great to finally come across a new Precious Moments price guide. The layout was very easy to follow and the indexes a huge help. There were some different price variations from the last Greenbook edition (1999), which this book showed a lower value than 1999. I did not give 5 stars because there were markings on my collection of older pieces that were not listed in the book. All in all, every Precious Moments collector should have a copy of this edition!

Book Description
100 New Yorkers profiles musicians, painters, photographers, a journalist who donned disguises to get the inside scoop, comedians, crooners, politicians, a clairvoyant—even a pirate—and the places associated with them in the city. It describes affairs and love stories, profound and enduring friendships, feats of the imagination, lurid scandals, and fabulous parties, along with moments of unexpected humor—such as the description of young Edgar Allan Poe, who routinely draped a white sheet over his head to walk solemnly through his stepfather's dinner parties. Throughout, 100 New Yorkers features the incomparable panorama of the city—the drama surrounding the construction of the Brooklyn Bridge in the 1880s, the music coming out of smoky Harlem lounges in the 1940s, and the bustle of Coney Island in its heyday. Beautifully designed by Milton Glaser—himself an iconic New Yorker—this book features one hundred intriguing black-and-white photographs.
100 New Yorkers includes: Diane Arbus, Tallulah Bankhead, Henry James, Jacob Lawrence, John Lennon, Robert Mapplethorpe, Dorothy Parker, Edgar Allan Poe, Jackson Pollock, Diego Rivera, Babe Ruth, Sojourner Truth, Diana Vreeland, Weegee, Walt Whitman, and eighty-five more.

Makes me yearn to return........2005-07-20
Holmes' nuanced, understated, and very readable style belie what must have been an exhaustive research effort. She highlights small but interesting details in each of the 100 profiles that invite the reader to find out more. After reading this book, you will have a historical, architectural, and cultural overlay to flavor your own relationship with and memories of The City. No one could hope to fully encapsulate this sprawling topic in one volume. But few could manage to assemble as much, in as portable or pleasing a package, as the author does to contextualize these noteworthy lives.
A sleek gem of a book!.......2005-01-27
When I first came across this book, I thought it would make a great "stocking stuffer" gift; however, I continue to buy copies to give as birthday gifts--or "just because" gifts. For anyone who is preoccupied with New York--whether it is home or not--this book is addictive reading. In just a few paragraphs the author synthesizes the rich lives of each of these New Yorkers. Each section provides insight into pockets of the city and the lives that have passed through it, making it the perfect book to tote around the city to read on the subway and throughout your day.
great gift for smart friends.......2005-01-21
After flying through this smart, incredibly well-researched book I realized it was the perfect gift for all of my friends who do/used to/aspire to live in New York City. I also gave it to my teacher friends who loved the detail and use it as a resource. How Holmes found all this stuff I'll never know, but I'm really glad she did!
A reminder of why people love New York..........2005-01-19
This book has been in my coat pocket for a month. I sneak time to read it on the subway, at my desk over lunch, right before I go to bed. With "100 New Yorkers: A Guide to Illustrious Lives and Locations" Holmes is like the person at a cocktail party everyone gathers around to hear tell stories--stories about amazing people who have lived here and about the interesting, tragic, remarkable, funny, magical lives they've lead.
The book makes even the most jaded New Yorker love that they live here. It's really quite special.
100 New Yorkers is a great gift for any friend of New York.......2004-12-22
I opened this book expecting to only read the sections about my favorite New Yorkers. I started with Diane Arbus and read about the lives of all 100 from cover to cover sequentially. I don't know how the author found so much detail about the lives of these people who have so influenced life, politics, religion and culture in N.Y. Some of the stories were just amazing. The photographs are lovely. I enjoyed imagining the 100 N.Y.ers passing through the same places at different times in history.
