This is a great book but if you know nothing about the glass, how do you look up the items you have.

The cover on the books says it all. It is a price guide but I was looking for a picture book.

A useful guide for carnival glass.......2004-05-06
I had no problem finding any of the patterns that I was looking for. Having only been collecting carnival glass for about three years, I found the book to be informative and a great referance to fall back on if I was unsure of something. This book was one of the best purchases that I have made when it comes to referance books.
Confusing!!.......2003-09-29
This book is useless if you do not know a lot about carnival glass. I was very disappointed, it was a waste of money for a beginning collector!

I loved this book. It is the best book I have found to use in identifying carnival glass. The pictures are crystal clear, and the number of items included is astonishing. However, the greatest weakness is that the book does not list the year(s) that any of the items were made. That is a huge weakness. You may find out who the manufacturer is and the name of the item, but not knowing the date leaves a huge gap in information.
This is an Encyclopedia and more........2001-07-27
This book is what it says and encyclopedia. I t was not designed for any group beginner or expert. It is well organized and packed with descriptive color pictures. This encyclopedia tell how when and Where the glass was made and more important shows patterns to help you recognize what you are looking at. The "Marks" section is worth it in its self.
My two favorite objects in the book (of which I am not sure I would want in my house) are:

"Of All the oddities I've come across in carnival glass, this is probably the oddball of all time."

"Surly there isn't a collector that hasn't seen these in the flea market in Scotties, poodles, dear, duckies, or rabbits. They are all covers powder jars, all marigolds, and made near the end of the carnival glass heyday. Still the coloring is usually respectable, and they are cute little things"
Personally I do not think they are so cute; but my wife has the "Dear" that was handed down from her mother.
Again this book is worth just being aware of the diversity in Carnival Glass

Fairly nice book...with a few flaws.......2002-09-23
The color pictures are numerous and nice....the price guide in the back is a pain...it would be much better if the prices were on the same page as the picture. I think the price paid for this book was more than fair.
Colorful Pictures Do Not Make A Great Book.......2001-08-18
Granted, the color pictures do make for a nice book, however, I found many of the pictures to not show the pattern clearly. Sometimes it was the item they chose to show that caused the difficulty--patterns on cups, candlesticks, and vases do not give me what I need to see to verify the pattern on a bowl. I believe a bit more variety of pictures is need for many of the patterns. I would rather see a picture of a collection with a clear detail of the pattern. As far as the price guide goes, at first I found it inconvenient to flip to the back of the book to check the prices, but I got used to it and put up with it. Carnival glass resources are few, so this book is out there, but in my opinion, it's not a great book or a good value.
An Excellent Reference On Carnival Glass.......2001-05-30
This Edwards & Carwile Encyclopedia is an excellent reference book for the "Carnival Glass" enthusiast. It has clear color photos, large print, is alphabetically listed, has informative descriptions, and a detailed price list. I never go shopping for carnival glass without taking this book; it's a necessary shopping guide. I always find the piece shown, described, and priced in this book. SM
A benchmark publication for collectors and dealers........2000-03-04

Nice, but no longer cutting edge........2006-06-20
When this book first came out it was something to write home about, but no longer. Unless you are brand new to scrapbooking and have never poked through a CK or a Memory Makers magazine you've seen most of these ideas before. That being said, it's a well done book with a lot of really nice looking examples. This one's time has probably passed for most scrapbookers who are looking for the most up to date trends.
Nothing Special.......2005-08-14
I bought this book hoping to learn new ways to use vellum. All I found were typical ideas that I had already thought of myself--and trust me, if I were a master at coming up with unique ideas, I would not have needed to buy this book. This book basically shows you how to use vellum as a background, for text, and for photo borders. I was hoping to find patterns that would teach me how to make unique vellum shapes and embellishments. A waste of money.

I picked up this book in a moment of weakness (a winter walk in the woods). Simply magical. A beautiful blend of lore, humour, genus/species derivation, and poetry. I'm in the process of teaching nature to the kids now that they have HTML squared away. This they can read to me in the car. It's that good. Peter, give us more.

I've owned this book for several years. This book is a wonderful book. It has easy to follow instructions and even explains what items you will need to make the wreaths. This book may inspire you to even use your own ideas. I know it inspired me. It is a fun Christmas family activity craft book. Not many of those left around. It is a heavy book and the pages are full of pictures and illustrations. I would recommend this book to anybody who wants to start making your own wreaths. This book will educate and enlighten you.

I worry that the products in my home may be detrimental to my health. I worry that the waste our consumer society generates is degrading the environment. So I was glad to see a guide like Essentual Environments which points out simple changes we can make to have healthier homes. For instance, stop using scented candles and drinking sodas. Replace your laundry detergent with a biodegradable, non-toxic, laundry detergent. Get a filter for your shower since chemicals in the water get absorbed through your skin.
There are more involved recommendations as well for those willing to invest in improving the health of their living spaces. We owe it to ourselves and to the earth to cut down on clutter, chemicals and waste.

This book is absolutely amazing, and the title could not be more appropriate. This book is filled with practical and useful advice on how to bring your life into balance, and avoid those things that we all think we need, but really make us worse off. You might think that using these strategies your life would be more complicated or difficult, in exchange for living healthier, but instead, you are likely to enjoy your life more while living longer! This book is simply amazing.
