A Slice Of Life........2006-11-17
I have every edition of the "KNIVES" annuals since the first one came out in 1980. As a knifemaker and collector I like to keep up with the state-of-the art knives that these amazing makers present in this book. The photos are plentiful and the paper quality of these softcover books has greatly improved since editor Joe Kertzman has taken over the helm. If you like knives in all their glory, then all of these books are highly recommended. The only reason that I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is that I feel that Mr. Kertzman gets a little "ornate" in some of his descriptions. Let the knives speak for themselves, Joe. Hee hee.
Knives 2006.......2006-11-10
Not the book I wanted. I wanted a book listing Case and Buck knives values. My mistake.
The Photos alone are worth the money........2006-07-17
I decided to buy this book basing on the pictures of the knives inside. Once received, the pictures are worth more than the price I have paid for. Details with each knife is the extra bonus to the owner. Very good especially for custom knife collectors, and myself as a trader on ebay's -unclevit- listing store. I will buy more from this writer, perhaps every year. Recommend. Good Value.

WHAT IS LATENT DEMAND AND THE P.I.E.?
The concept of latent demand is rather subtle. The term latent typically refers to something that is dormant, not observable, or not yet realized. Demand is the notion of an economic quantity that a target population or market requires under different assumptions of price, quality, and distribution, among other factors. Latent demand, therefore, is commonly defined by economists as the industry earnings of a market when that market becomes accessible and attractive to serve by competing firms. It is a measure, therefore, of potential industry earnings (P.I.E.) or total revenues (not profit) if a market is served in an efficient manner. It is typically expressed as the total revenues potentially extracted by firms. The market is defined at a given level in the value chain. There can be latent demand at the retail level, at the wholesale level, the manufacturing level, and the raw materials level (the P.I.E. of higher levels of the value chain being always smaller than the P.I.E. of levels at lower levels of the same value chain, assuming all levels maintain minimum profitability).
The latent demand for agricultural flail-type harvesting machinery and discharge spouts with horizontal knives or vertical freeswinging knives or hammers is not actual or historic sales. Nor is latent demand future sales. In fact, latent demand can be lower either lower or higher than actual sales if a market is inefficient (i.e., not representative of relatively competitive levels). Inefficiencies arise from a number of factors, including the lack of international openness, cultural barriers to consumption, regulations, and cartel-like behavior on the part of firms. In general, however, latent demand is typically larger than actual sales in a country market.
For reasons discussed later, this report does not consider the notion of unit quantities, only total latent revenues (i.e., a calculation of pri

Book Description
This report was created for strategic planners, international executives and import/export managers who are concerned with the market for knives and cutting blades for machines or mechanical appliances, interchangeable tools for hand or machine tools, and tool plates, sticks, and tips. With the globalization of this market, managers can no longer be contented with a local view. Nor can managers be contented with out-of-date statistics that appear several years after the fact. I have developed a methodology, based on macroeconomic and trade models, to estimate the market for knives and cutting blades for machines or mechanical appliances, interchangeable tools for hand or machine tools, and tool plates, sticks, and tips for those countries serving the world market via exports or supplying from various countries via imports. I do so for the current year based on a variety of key historical indicators and econometric models.
On the demand side, exporters and strategic planners approaching the world market face a number of questions. Which countries are supplying knives and cutting blades for machines or mechanical appliances, interchangeable tools for hand or machine tools, and tool plates, sticks, and tips? What is the dollar value of these imports? How much do the imports of knives and cutting blades for machines or mechanical appliances, interchangeable tools for hand or machine tools, and tool plates, sticks, and tips vary from one country to another? Do exporters serving the world market have similar market shares across the importing countries? Which countries supply the most exports of knives and cutting blades for machines or mechanical appliances, interchangeable tools for hand or machine tools, and tool plates, sticks, and tips? Which countries are buying their exports? What is the value of these exports and which countries are the largest buyers?
In what follows, Chapter 2 begins by summarizing the regional markets for...

The total level of imports and exports on a worldwide basis, and those for each region, is based on a model which aggregates across over 150 key country markets and projects these to the current year. From there, each country represents a percent of the world market. This market is served from a number of competitive countries of...

Customer Reviews:
really beautiful!.......2007-10-05
I got these cards for my best friends' baby and they are really nice and bright and just beautful cards. They give information about the animal on the back. Really great value and great item!
Baby Einstein is Always a winner!.......2007-05-14
These cards were being used for my five year old developmentally delayed son at his school. We purchased a set for this reason. He loves them and so does his one year old brother. The pictures are fantastic! They are also simple enough to be a great learning tool.
My daughter loves them!.......2007-05-12
I bought these for my daughter when she was about 10 months old and from the moment I opened them she has absolutely loved the bright pictures and animal sounds we make to accompany them. She is now 14 months old and continues to adore pulling them out and "growling" to the lion, bear and tiger. She spreads them out on the floor and it occupies her for a good solid TWO MINUTES!
2 cards missing the words.......2007-03-15
The only reason I cannot give this product 5 stars is because 2 of the cards (the sea turtle and squirrel) are missing the words printed on the picture side. After making several phone calls, the printing error will be corrected when the next "batch" of cards are printed. I was told the date when that would happen is unknown. The publishing company offered to send me a different set of cards free of charge for the mishap. If anyone else has experienced this, you may want to call the publishing company sooner than later. As of 07/01/07, Baby Einstein Discovery Cards will be published by a different company and it is unknown how the next company will handle the problem.
The cards have amazing photography and are extremely durable for my 19 mos old daughter's hands. She loves these cards!
Wonderful for learning.......2006-10-01
Our son started "playing" with these when he was 9 months old. They are just beautiful as other reviews say and they have helped our son learn his animals. He spends endless amounts of time sorting through them, looking at them (he loves the pictures) and carrying them around the house. Now at 15 months he can pick some of the animals out the pile and bring them to you when you ask. Since he's learning both spanish and english if you ask for the horse in either language he will sort through them until he finds it and then bring it to you (very proudly I might add). He would not have learned this much about animals without these cards! Well worth the $10.
Book Description
From bold to bashful, bewildered to beautiful, this sturdy board book bursts with babies! Sharp, silvery-toned photography captures a multitude of first expressions that will entrance readers young and old.
A quiet baby peers out at the world with huge, thoughtful eyes, while her loud counterpart bangs delightedly on a giant drum. A messy baby wreaks havoc with a bag of flour, while a neat companion poses proudly.
With its invitingly simple, rhythmic text and stunning images of infants, readers will want to keep turning the pages. And on the last page, they will find a special child-safe Mylar mirror and see the baby they know best!
Customer Reviews:
Great Book!.......2007-06-01
My son loves this book and I enjoy reading it to him. The pictures are great and I love the little story to read along with the pictures. My son has enjoyed reading this book over and over again. The pitures are much better than some of the other baby faces books I have bought.
A Favorite.......2007-05-15
This was one of my daughter's favorite books from about 18 months-2 yrs. She memorized the short sentences based on the pictures. It was too cute when she would read it to us before bedtime.
Good beginner book for babies 4 months and younger.......2006-03-16
My 2 month old daughter liked looking at the black and white photos of the babies. Young babies top two things to look at are black and white pictures/patterns and pictures of faces. This book has put the two together. Recommended to buy for those who are pregnant or have a young child.
Our Baby Loves this Book.......2005-10-30
I brought this book back from the library to read for our then 10 month old. After about two - three reads of the book she loved it. It is a great book to read to your baby as the words are simple, strong, and follow a lovely rhyming pattern eg "baby happy, baby sad, baby good, baby bad." The pictures are all of young babies and the book is very easy and sturdy for our baby to turn the pages herself while I read to her. At other times she reads the book herself, turning the pages and looking at the pictures. She loves the last page with the mirror, looks into it, and kisses it. Although I am getting sick of reading this book our daughter certainly isn't it and it is now 3 months on. In summary rhyming is good, pictures good, nice and simple, easy to turn pages a winner in our family.
review.......2005-08-22
I thought my daughter would love looking at this book since she loves to look at other babies; however, the photos are very muddy. I wish they were more crisp with definite black and white colors instead of lots of grey tones. Some of the captions that go along with the photos are misleading if you are teaching your baby feelings and actions, i.e "baby bad" is smiling so that might elude your child to think it is ok to play with flour. Not the best, but she will pick it up to look at the photos.
Book Description
There's a little newcomer at Benny's house, and everyone who visits says how beautiful she is. Only Benny seems to notice that she cries too much and she takes away from his time with Mom and Dad.What's the big fuss about? Then one night Baby Delilah really won't stop crying, and her big brother Benny comes up with a silly, perfect way to make her smile.
Jean Van Leeuwen's gently humorous text captures the mixed emotions of gaining a new sibling, and this adorable story is perfectly teamed up with LeUyen Pham's cheerful and lively illustrations.
Customer Reviews:
Definite Buy for Brother with a new baby sister.......2007-01-27
My son wanted this from Santa and was so excited when he got it. We read it often. He likes to supplant his name for Benny and his sister's name for Delilah. Also instead of "she has no hair and no teeth" he says "mommmy say she has curly hair and 6 teeth". For several months his baby sister could have been 'a piece of furniture' now she's more interactive and he's more interested in her. This book has really helped him to accept his baby sister.

Customer Reviews:
Good for inspirations.......2007-08-03
The book brings a good source of inspirations for baby's pages. There are lots of ideas and smart tips. For those who are not looking for step-by-step instructions or how-to-dos, the book might be a good deal to have. I bought it brand new and without any recommendations, just went by the title and the KODAK Book name, but I liked it! I am actually scrapbooking my baby's photos and this one definitely came to enrich my pages.
Customer Reviews:
The Best Baby Book Ever!.......2003-03-04
I received it as a gift from my mother in law when I was expecting my first child. It is simply precious! Unfortunately it is out of print. No other baby book out there can even compare to the heirloom quality of this one. I beg the publisher to bring it back into print! :)
Book Description

Celebratory yet soothing, here is a treasure for every parent and child to share together.
Customer Reviews:
a Beautiful story.......2005-09-08
I originally got this in paperback thru my son's book club at daycare and picked up three copies in hardcover, one for me and two for other mothers as gifts. It's short enough that my two year old not only sits thru it, but wants me to read it over and over. The artwork is amazing, and it may not be a "story" but is a beautiful message of love.
Nice book...for the parents.......2005-08-03
I think the intent of this book is to make the parent feel warm and fuzzy about their relationship with their child, and it definitely carries that intent successfully. In so far as the book succeeds here, and makes for a warm bedtime reading with your child, I give the book some credit.
But looking at this book from the standpoint of a child who would pick it up and read it during the day... I find it at times boring and confusing. It definitely requires a parent to explain or elaborate upon the illustrations, which again might be the intent of the book. So as a bedtime reading book, I would give it 4 stars. As a standalone children's book (something like Dr Seuss that a kid can pick up and have fun with), I would give it 2 stars.
The illustrations are an example of the problem. They are nice, although their relationship to the text is sometimes too 'poetic' to clearly carry the meaning to a small toddler.
For instance [ I want to show you how perfect a flower is. ] will be illustrated by the picture of a mother and child re-planting a flower that was in a pot that the child broke with his soccer ball. And they are re-planting the flower in the child's tinker-toys can. I know... as a parent it just makes your heart melt. But as a kid, the poignancy would probably be lost without an explanation.
Also, the illustrations are very digital. The precision of them, the antiseptic lines, the hightened colors, the 'motion-blur' effects, make you think you're reading this on a computer monitor or an advertising brochure, mostly because the art seems to have been designed exclusively on a computer. Think of the style as a sort of digitized Rene Magritte. I wouldn't reduce the rating because of it, since my kid enjoys the style; I just personally enjoy kid's illustrations that are less 'slick' and a bit more human, but maybe that's my age showing.
So there you have it. Great bedtime book. Not-so-great kid's reading book. Illustrations a bit too composed and 'slick' to make you feel like the art wasn't designed by a marketing committee.
From a School Librarian.......2004-09-30
Within its spare text and quiet illustrations lies the powerful message of teaching a child to appreciate the simple things in life through a parent's unselfish love. This is one of the most beautiful books I have ever read. Perhaps it's because I recently became a mom that this book touches me so deeply - but I can't read it without getting teary eyed. Not really a book I would use as a class read aloud, but a book that I would recommend to students to check out and share with parents at home. I plan to buy a copy for my library, my daughter and as a gift for everyone I know with kids. It's that good.

Special for being you.......2004-06-27
You don't have to be an infant to love this book, as becomes clear from the delight it gives one 12-year old we know and love. But there's something very fetching about infants, even for kids bordering on adolescence.
In this case, the book may operate as something of a replacement for baby pictures that don't exist, since the child was adopted well past toddler-hood.
But the 28 pages of huge black and white photographs of infants are also in themselves a great draw, what with feet, hands, faces, and bare bottoms all thrown together with a 65-word poem, and a full-page mirror for the baby (or child) to see himself.
For infants and older kids, the message is terrific: you're special for being you.

My 11 month old loves this book.......2001-04-25
This has been my daughter's favorite book for the last month, and there is no sign of it ending. She will search through her shelf of books and somehow find this one to pull out. And I'm going to give away the ending... It has a really nice mirror on the last page - she loves to stare at herself and then flip back through the pages to the other babies. She loves it so much that I am about to buy a second one - a couple of the pages are already tearing! A must have!
A wonderful book for all children........1998-07-31
This beautiful, rythmic book is perfect for a child of any age. My son fell in love with it when he was only 4 months old. He still reads it daily. This book is a treasure!
Every child from infant to emergent reader will love it!!.......1998-06-24
We have had this book from infancy, Quinn is now two years old and still requests the "baby book". The rhymes, multicultural pictures, and surprise at the end make this an enjoyable book for us all to read. This has become our standard baby gift and is much loved by all who recieve it.
A must have for all parents of 12-24 month babies.......1997-12-10
I bought this book second hand and it was my sons favorite for almost a year. I loaned it two a neighbor and her daughter was almost inseparable from it. My daughter (12 months) has just started it and I see her face glow with each new page.
