Will Dylan give up riding for good?
Dylan Becker used to be one of Christina Reese's best friends. They like to do all the same things. He even loved horses as much as she did! But lately, Dylan has been spending more time playing soccer than riding his horse, Dakota. In fact, he's thinking of giving up riding entirely--only one little girls like horses, he says.
Christina can't believe it. Has Dylan really outgrown his love of riding? Even worse, has he outgrown their friendship?

Dylans Choice.......2005-08-03
In Dylans Choice, one of Christina Reeses best friend, Dylan Becker has second thoughts about horses. When Christina first met him, he was just as crazy about horses just as she was but now, he is saying that horses are just for little girls. Dylans best friend, Chad is showing Dylan another world without horses and tells him that he can make it to the big time for soccer. Dylan is a excelient soccer player and now his horse Dakota his just a pet instead of an eventer. Dylan was training his quarter horse to be a perefect 3 day eventer but after their last competition, Dakota showed no spirit like he normaly does and gets himself injuried. Christina even had to tell Dylan to take care of his horse before heading to his soccer game. A hour later Christina sees that Dakota has hardly been taking care of. She knew Dylan has changed. It seemed when Chad was around, Dylan tried to make him proud and be stuck up and everything. Dylan even choses to ride a dirtbike instead of his horse. Is Christina loosing her friend? Find out in Dylans Choice. (...) And please if u want to save Thoroughbred, (...)
kind of boring, but had its good points.......2005-02-02
i found the writing in this book to be kind of flat. there weren't really any subplots or exciting characters, which left it kind of lacking. however, i was glad someone other than christina was acting like a brat for a change. and it was nice to see that chris and sterling were making progress. i was getting tired of books focused on sterling's bad behavior. also, this is the first time we've really ever seen any of the characters in this series get teased for liking horses. and even though the heavy emphasis on boys at such a young age bothers me (one of the reason i liked the original books was because the women were so independent of men), i guess it's a more realistic portrayal...i just these grouping of books wasn't catering to such a young audience. the older books gave the readers more credit, assuming them to be more mature and interested in other things. i certainly was at that age.
i first purchased this book when it was published several years ago, and i still publish each new book as they come out. i'm very saddened that the series will end soon, and hope the publishers were reconsider.
I agree with 1st review.......2003-02-18
These books are great uf you know absoulty nothin about horses i mean 3 months off the track and allready 3ft fences! please! I think that the lady who wrote this book knew nothin about training an event horse- hey im not saying i kno every thin but i am training a little filly to event and i have to say that in 3 years we are where Christina is in 3 months!!! Alos where the heck did Max go and why? Max and Cindy were perfect together! all around pathetic! I wish that Joanna would come back as well! Atleast she wrote the books and knows what had happened before!
Great book, a really good reflection on real life.......2002-12-01
This was a great book because it showed more of a conflict that would actually happen. I love the other books, but really what are the odds that you will have like 10 of those "one in a million horses" like Wonder, Pride, Princess, Glory, Shining, Honor, Star, Image. I could go on and on. It was really a story that you can relate to, I have had like a million friends that you think they like the sames things you do or whatever, but then bam they turn on you like a turn on the forehand! They also did it at just the right age I mean this happens mostly in teenages its not like an eight year old would do that. But its cool how Dylan comes back in the end. Its also true that its really hard to concentrate on more than one sport at a time. I used to horseback ride and do gymnastics (horseback riding more of course) but you really have to choose one sport in the long run. So this is really a good book and targets something that basicly everybody will have to go through at one time or another. Its great they got Dylan back though, because he was a really good character (realistic too, considering at Camp Saddlebrook he totally didn't know how bad Rachel was flirting with him, and all guys do that so it just makes it better.) This is definatly one of the best Thoroughbred books yet! Also, I love the books on eventing! What do all you people have against it? Why can't Christina and Melanie just stay on eventing instead of going to racing? We would all be much happier if Cindy never came back! So this little part of the series about eventing is either the best or best tied with the first ones about Ashleigh and Samantha.
Dlyan's Choice.......2002-04-14
This book is a great book for kids who love riding, but also love other things. Dlyan gradually stops paying attention to his horse Dakota, and more attention to soccer and sports. His friend Christina Reese is worried about him. At a competion he rushes a jump, and tries to impress a friend from school named Chad. He hurts his horse and leaves him for a soccer game when his horse needs him the most. Will Dlyan stop riding or change his point of view? Read this book and find out what happens.
Book Description
They were the Finest Creationsmystically forged creatures of perfection sent by the creators to aid the Fallen (mankind) during their mortal existence.Though they resemble ordinary horses, they are highly intelligent, capable of communicating telepathically, and completely moral. They are assigned to bond with individuals of great potential and protect them from harm while guiding them along a path of virtue. Gallant-Stallion has found his charge, a young girl by the name of Kalantha, whose brother is soon to be king. Her brother is also pawn of a deceitful and murderous bishop who covets the royal power and has allied himself with creatures of the dark arts. The Finest has successfully removed Kalantha from his influence but now must contend with the other temptations of the worldthe lure of power, the mystery of learning and knowledge, and the intrigue and freedom of adventure and independence. Kalantha is still young and bitter over her lot in life, betrayed, envious, and scared. Her mentor, Gallant-Stallion, is unsure of how to lead her as is his duty as her Finest.

Blah.......2006-01-24
I don't know why the other reviewers liked this book so much. I very much looked forward to reading the book. However, it did not live up to expectations. With so many other great fantasy books out there, this one was a waste of time....
Book 2 of The Finest Trilogy.......2005-11-13
Jean Rabe continues her magical young adult adventure, following Meven as he becomes king and Kal as she seeks to escape both the evil birds that have continued to attack her and the strict, monastic life that the Bishop would have her follow. But as interesting and adventurous as the two young royals are, the real star of the piece is Gallant Stallion, the Finest sent to shepherd young Kal, but unsure how to perform his task. Gallant Stallion's wonderment at the world of men (the Fallen) and the sights and smells and interactions of nature make this much more than a simple adventure yarn. While Kal's impetuous nature can be a bit abrupt at times to adult readers, it is appropriate for her age and circumstance. Much more is set up for resolution in the final volume than is actually resolved at the end of Book 2, but such is the nature of trilogies. Jean's vivid descriptions of the flora and fauna that Gallant Stallion and Kal encounter and her action-packed fight scenes are a true delight. I am certainly looking forward to the final volume. Highly recommended for young adults and lovers of fantasy. Donald J. Bingle, Author of Forced Conversion.
Book 2.......2005-10-26
They look like regular horses, but they are not. They are the "Finest Creations", mystically forged by the creators to aid mankind during their mortal existence. Each Finest is given a human charge to lead, without directly interfering. Humans must have free choice. A human is only granted the honor of Finest if the human has great potential.
Meven Montoll is being crowned King of Galmier at the beginning of this novel. but Meven is the pawn of a murderous man, Bishop DeNogaret, who intends to rid the world of the Montoll line before crowning himself ruler. But first the bishop will use his dark arts to persuade King Meven into war with the other kingdoms, thus enlarging the Galmier realm.
Gallant-Stallion "Rue", a Finest, has a young girl named Kalantha "Kal" Montoll as his charge. Rue has removed Kal from the bishop's grasp and they travel the land almost aimlessly until Destiny arrives. Rue and Kal communicate telepathically, thinks to their magical bond. In this novel, the second of a trilogy, the two must learn about the assassin birds from the Vershan Monastery. The problem is locating the monastery and then finding the one, old, needed book for answers. During it all, those of the dark arts hunt Rue and Kal with murder in their black hearts.
**** Like other second books within a trilogy, this one is not as great as the first. It is mainly to continue the first novel and set things up for the third. Yet the author, Jean Rabe, did a wonderful job in keeping my attention. I never found myself growing bored. People and events begin to come together. I can see where the story is going and am eagerly waiting until I can find out how it wraps up. Excellent book! ****

A wonderful read!.......2005-09-29
I love this series.
Not just because of the world the author weaves, but because of her use of words to transport me to a world that is not just muddy and musty, but that also has its beauties. I love the fact that Rue uses all of his senses to learn and interpret his world. I don't feel like he is a human in a horse's body. But Ms. Rabe doesn't stop there, she also packs in thrills and chills, at times leaving me breathless with fear for the characters.
I also love this series because we see the world not just through Fallen Favorite Kalantha's eyes, but also through the eyes of the Finest Rue. The reader watches as both Fallen and Finest learn about the world and each other, experience success and defeat, and see each other's strengths and weaknesses even as the evil that surrounds them shifts and grows.
One thing is for sure. I will never think of a flock of birds quite the same way again. . .

Image of Deception: Number 2 ("Heather" Trilogy Series)

Book Description
A current boyfriend and a former boyfriend, two jumping horses to show, a missing racehorse, a newborn filly with a questionable pedigree, a human body dredged up from the bottom of Flathead Lake--just a normal summer for Heather Chambers in Challenge of Choice, the final book (following Quality Concealed and Image of Deception) in the "Heather" trilogy. Leaving David Cane behind in Utah, Heather travels to Montana to promote her Thoroughbred jumper, Royal Image, or so she thinks. Although her stepfather, Kevin, claims he "never interferes," he decides Heather should see Tyler Taggert again before telling David she will marry him. Okay. She can go along with that. No problem. No problem, that is until David shows up at the Taggert horse farm on the shores of Flathead Lake, hauling Possum, Heather's backup mount. "Now you have both boyfriends together. You can compare," Kevin tells a distraught Heather. If all this isn't enough to complicate the 18-year-old girl's life, add Ty's gorgeous riding student, Allie; and Katie, his matchmaking sister, in memorable performances both off and on the Bigfork Summer Theater stage. And,oh yes--is there really a Flathead monster?

An unusually thoughtful and involving novel.......2002-12-11
The concluding title in the "Heather" trilogy by Betty Briggs, Challenge Of Choice is a thoroughly entertaining novel for young adults about Heather Chambers, an eighteen-year-old young woman who must choose between boyfriends, and between which jumping horses to bring to a an important show. As Heather's life grows more complex with conflicting paths, she has to learn the difficult task of keeping a balance as she makes the difficult transition to true adulthood. Challenge Of Choice is enthusiastically commended as an unusually thoughtful and involving novel. Also very highly recommended are the first two books in the "Heather" trilogy, Quality Concealed ...
Product Description
This play is based on Becky's Horse, the story of a girl who comes to realize she must choose between accepting the prize of the horse she's always wanted or the money to bring over her orphaned cousin from Nazi-dominated Europe. The play dramatizes a warm, loving Jewish-American family of the late 30's, whose lives are touched by the Depression and the growing trouble in Europe. There are lively scenes, as when the oldest daughter Mimi tries to bleach her hair with startling results, or when reporters interview Becky on winning the contest. And there are strong dramatic scenes. Performing this play will be a rich experience. Parts can can be Xeroxed or copied out of the book. The play can also be shortened, if desired, by omitting the "hair" episode in Act One. Simply drop Scene 3 and shorten Scene 4 to Mrs. Golden's line: "If wishes were horses, beggars would ride." omitting the remainder of that scene. Or, if the class is interested in doing so, additional scenes, based on Becky's Horse, can be written and staged. Suggestions for props, staging, and costumes are included.

Book Description
If you were a horse, would you want to be your horse?
The Horses Choice, using the S.T.A.C.I. (Sane Training and Centered Ideas) method, will teach you how to imagine yourself in your horses shoes. In so doing, you will understand his point of view and learn why he does the things he does. Does your horse rear? Prance? Spook? Using this very natural, low-key and easy training method, you can solve those problems and more. Best of all, you can do it yourself it just takes a little horse sense and a lot of patience.
Whether you are brand new to the world of horses or an old hand, The Horses Choice is a valuable addition to your library because unlike most traditional training books, The Horses Choice not only shows you everything from the horses viewpoint, but how to deal with the problems from a human standpoint.
Using personal anecdotes and stories about her own horses, Wilson tells you in a fun, easy-to-understand way how to: acclimate a new horse into your stable; teach your horse to longe; figure out which bit to use; catch your horse in the field; get your horse to stand still while mounting; keep your horse from bolting; walk home at an easy pace; and much more.
A portion of the proceeds from the sale of this book will go to help horses in the HorseAid equine welfare programme.

Horses, fun and safety.......2000-05-24
I think this book would be great for 4-H and Pony Club. Its suitable for kids, but great for adults with riding experience, too. This book is one of the few I've read that really does have something for everyone. Great advice, with a personal touch.
Word of Mouth Book Reviews.......2000-05-22
The Horse's Choice covers horse training from both a horse's perspective and a human's perspective, explaining what motivates your horse's behavior, and how to get him to respond to you using brains and compassion instead of brute strength. With compelling, easily understood examples, The Horse's Choice covers everything from the first-time horse purchase to caring for your horse, establishing training routines, and correcting problem behaviors. Written in an engaging, knowledgeable manner, horse expert Staci Layne Wilson has produced an excellent guide to the compassionate care and training of your horse that you'll want to study from cover to cover. Highly recommended!
I Can Relate!.......2000-03-03
Here's a trainer who talks to you, not down to you. I felt like she could be a riding buddy! I could really relate to alot of the stories and I learned alot too. The pictures are really fun and I had to chuckle at some of them, and the anecdotes too! I give this book two hooves up.
Read this book before your horse does!.......2000-02-14
He would just laugh and tell you that he was right all along.... Did you know that your problem horse's problem is YOU? Or if not you, then a previous owner or handler. Your horse knows and he is trying to tell you. Staci Layne Wilson also knows, and this is the approach she takes when she explains why a horse has a problem. The good thing with this book is that it not only tells you how to cure a problem - it also explains why the problem arose in the first place and how to avoid that it re-occurs. So, even if you don't have a problem horse at home, this book is a definite must! The book takes its starting point in the natural horsemanship methods. Staci Wilson has studied these methods for years and has found her own method to incorporate them into her training in a way that they are adjusted to fit the kind of horse she's working with. She does this in her book by describing how different kinds of horses need different approaches. All the time throughout the book Staci Wilson considers what will be the most natural thing for the horse to do in a given situation, and she adjusts her training advises accordingly. The book is a must for beginners and intermediate riders, but even if you are experienced like myself, there is something you can use in this book. Things you maybe just hadn't thought of in the first place. The training methods are easy to understand, and more important: Easy to follow as well. Staci Wilson puts a lot of significance into the aspect of safety, which I think is very important. The book also emphasizes that being a good horseman requires a lot of time and work, which is true. Nothing comes from nothing, and as the book says, it's you and your horse who must walk the walk - no trainer can do it for you. But when you read this book the walk won't feel as long and it will be a lot easier because you get to know the basics and how to work your way up from there. A simple thing like the horse's flight instinct is the root of most kinds of problems and Staci tells you why that it is and how to avoid getting yourself or your horse into trouble. And the methods described in this book makes it both fun and interesting to work with your horse! Results show quickly and both of you get something out of the deal and will end up a lot happier. The book is illustrated with great photos and it is very humourously written! I was laughing a lot while I read it - Staci Wilson hits home every time she describes a situation. I read it in one sitting too - you simply cannot put it down! Needless to say I find this book absolutely great.
And for you who also enjoyed the excerpt from Staci Layne Wilson's next novel, The Dance: You can look forward to reading the rest! I've read the whole script (in one sitting as well..) and it continues in the same fun and enthralling style - just even more so!
A must read for every hores/pony rider.......2000-02-10
This book is chock full of very usable/hands-on advice/information on horse and pony training. Even though I have had my horse at several riding clinics, nobody ever pointed out that my horse was overbitted. By just following the advice on bitting, my horse is now much more responsive and has not balked even once when out trail riding. I have also learned to hold the reins with a much gentler hand. All in all, I feel I have not only helped myself, but I have also helped my horse as well. As another reviewer mentioned, I think every horse should come equipped with this book. Instead of teaching you to train your horse, this book teaches you to understand your horse so that the training becomes a learning/understanding process for both you and your horse.

Excellent Book.......2004-08-13
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. As a professional working with children and adolescents, I think that Dr. Eagle paints a very rich landscape to better understand the emotional development of adolescent girls. This book helped me to better understand this emotional journey as well as the needs of adolescents as they grow to become young women. An unusually thoughtful and insightful book.
All That She Can Be: Helping Your Daughter Maintain.......2000-02-13
I was very disappointed with this book. I had read the great reviews, and it was a basic book that I didn't learn anything new that I didn't know before reading this book.

What a fabulous book!.......1999-04-21
I started this book hoping for some ideas to help me deal with my 2 stepdaughters' venture into adolescence. I love it! The authors' experience, insight into girls' feelings and actions and realistic advice on how parents can help their daughters through this difficult time in their lives are invaluable. It is a definite keeper. (I'm also making my husband read it!)
Essential reading for all parents of pre-teen girls........1998-01-05
This book is easy to read and understand. While on the one hand it made me sad to realize my 8 year old is truly poised on the threshold of a new and difficult phase of life, it gave me insight, as well as some tools to use, to make this next journey easier on both of us. It emphasized how critical the pre-teen years are in establishing a relationship that can not only survive the turbulence of the junior and senior high years, but keep the fires of self-esteem and confidence burning in the face of "growing up." Useful, relevant and comforting, this is perfect reading for parents who worry that their daughters will be anything like they were as pre-teens!
