Customer Reviews:
Great book for professionals.......2006-06-27
Great book for seamstresses. Not as good for sewing-challenged consumers. I would have preferred less technical info and more illustrations -- especially color photos of the different shades in finished rooms.
Book Description
-Instructions and ideas for window treatments, cushions and items for bed and bath.

Good Mix of Projects.......2006-11-25
I also bought the "Sewing For The Home" book, which is a little more basic, but has far more pillow styles that you can sew. The two books combined are very good references for small projects that you can sew for your home in any room, including the bath.
This book has more projects included (than the first book) that you can sew for your bedroom. There are also suggestions on how to use sheets for your bedroom sewing projects, duvet covers, pleated bedskirts, table covers, etc.
My original intent in getting the books was to learn to sew curtains and drapes. The first book gives you very good basics, but this one goes just a little bit further. I wanted to learn to pleat my own drapes, and this book is the one that shows you how to do that without using pleater tape.
The instructions and photographs in both books are very clear and easy to follow, step by step. There are photos of all the projects in final place, so that you can see what they should look like when complete, and they are somewhat inspirational (idea-wise).
I've been sewing since I was a youngster, and thought I knew a lot, but these books have taught me a great deal. I now look forward to my projects looking professionally done. BTW, most of the things in these books are easy enough for a sewing novice with a desire to learn, to accomplish successfully.
Both books are very good, cover slightly different subjects, and I would recommend that if you buy one, that you buy the other. Between them, they cover just about anything you probably want to sew for your home.
Fabulous instructions for classic designs........2000-01-08
Although the fabric choices in the pictures are dated, the designs and projects are CLASSIC(swags and jabots, cornices, padded headboards, pinch pleated drapes, bedskirts, pillows and duvet covers...). The step by step, illustrated instructions are VERY easy to follow.
Singer's "More Sewing for the Home" saves you $$!.......1996-12-02
While many of the books in the Singer Sewing Reference Library are very good, I have found the "Sewing for the Home" series of the books to be the best. These books are lavishly illustrated, with detailed color photographs of every step of the sewing process for home decor items. After purchasing this book, I was able to create lovely custom home decor projects at huge cost savings over custom-made or purchasing ready made items. Even a beginner can achieve very good results with home decor projects using the instructions and methods found in this book. If you are interested in home decor sewing, then you should add this book to your sewing library

Look through my window.......2004-07-28
If you've got a nice, sunshiny yard, why not gussy it up a little with one of the contemporary curtain ensembles that decorators now call, window treatments? I found Creative Publishing's guide to be insightful and a true resource, it's good even with the basement windows that my X put inwhile trying to give a basement woodshop some natural light, but on the other hand nosy neighbors mean that you have to have some cloth over the glass.
Whether your view overlooks a garden in the country, or St. Patrick;s Cathedral in the city, you'll want a book like this here "More Creative Window Treatments" so you can look at the color photos and decide for yourself, and for your family, which setting would look nicest. And then the book gives you complete instructions for how to sew it together yourself. Or perhaps you can enlist the assistance of the birds and mice Disney's Cinderella used to help her whip together her gown!
Only if you can sew..........2002-07-01
While this book does have a few pictures, they seem quite old. The one or two items I liked didn't have any instructions for. If you are not a sewer, than this book is not for you. I found the book very confusing - definitely written for the person with sewing background. Sorry.
Great ideas, directs you to a professional window treatment.......2001-02-05
This was one of three books I purchased on window treatments; I turn to this one for advice and direction. Step by step directions with pictures on such topics as installing hardware, including hanging a mounting board, to the basics of sewing. Great ideas for rod pocket curtains and custom shades. I used it to create two different window treatments, scarf swag and shoji-style screen. Each project tells you how to measure and materials required. Due to the great instructions, both treatments turned out very professional!!
Customer Reviews:
just okay.......2004-03-27
this book is okay -- the projects are very ordinary and the fabric shown is not very designer like. There were some good project ideas but nothing very splashy. Much better books available.
Excellent instructions, fun to read.......2003-07-25
As a former technical writer, I am very critical of most instructional materials. This book, however, contains the best organized, clearest, most thorough, and best illustrated instructions I have ever seen. As an experienced sewer, I was impressed by the many sewing tips that I picked up from this book. The sections on decorative trims and buttons and buttonholes were especially helpful. The book was simply fun to read. The layout is pleasing, and the writing style is casual without being condescending or chatty. The ideas for window treatments are wide-ranging and creative. I originally borrowed this book from the library; now I'm going to buy a copy for myself.
Looking smart and fashionable without spending extravagantly.......2003-01-06
Highly recommended for the non-specialist general reader with a desire for home-enhancing do-it-yourself projects, More Splash Than Cash Window Treatments presents over 250 ideas and techniques for sprucing up any size or kind of window with just the right touch to complement the interior decoration of the rest of the home. Easy to follow step-by-step instructions succinctly cover everything from working with sheer fabrics to sewing on buttons, to installing a mounting board, employing classic motifs, and more. More Splash Than Cash Window Treatments is a truly great guide that puts its emphasis on looking smart and fashionable without spending extravagantly.
More Splash Than Cash Window Treatments.......2002-10-24
Home decorators from Dunces to Divas will love this book. The treatments are lovely but once again, Ms Babylon has outdone herself on the instructions. This book is packed with details, suggestions, hints, tips, all in easily understood, easy to follow instructions. I've been sewing my own window treatments for years and even I learned many time saving, workroom tips. I loaned my copy to my teenage daughters and they were able to design and complete window treatments for their rooms. This book gave them the tools and the confidence to tackle the project!
Thanks Donna and Victoria for another great hit!
Carolan Kviklys

Customer Reviews:
WAS a great book...and will be again........2002-06-01
Unfortunately, I have to agree with the reviewer who said DINO-TREKKING was out of date. It is -- badly. And Wiley refused to allow me, the author, to revise it. But there is good news. Now that the rights have reverted back to me there will be a NEW Dino-Trekking from a new publisher on the way. So watch my website -- ... -- for an Amazon link to the version soon. And enjoy the old classic until that new book arrives. Best always...Kelly.
Information old and inaccurate.......2002-04-03
If this was an updated version of the book perhaps it would hold value. In ...[this time period] it is mostly frustration. My son and I spent hours writing to the various museums and organizations and even catalog recommendations in the book to get further information and to plan for an upcoming road trip. Most of the mail returned to us unopened!! ...Very disillusioning for my son. Even the "Dino Trekking" society the author supposedly belongs to is EXTINCT! The book is cute for kids and does list places in the U.S. that have fossils but it is inaccurate now. Some museums have combined or closed. If you use any information from this book please check on the accuracy, it is an old book.
Many updated family and other dinosaur digs and terrific activities for enthusiasts are completely ignored in this book. Check it out at the library and check on the facts!!! BE warned.
An excellent and fun resource..........1999-11-27
If you love dinosaurs, you have to buy this book. It is well-written, colorfully illustrated, and an excellent guide to dinosaur exhibits around the nation. The fact that this book sells so well on Amazon three years after publication should attest to its merit.
Easily accessible info about an endlessly fascinating topic.......1997-08-05
While I enjoyed the fun facts and dino-destinations in Dino-Trekking, my four year old son absolutely adores the sketches in the book; so much so that he sometimes sleeps with the book beneath his pillow.
I like how the different dinosaur sites are presented by state, and I also appreciate the useful site ratings. Halls describes the cost to see each site, whether it is a museum or a dinosaur amusement park, and she also ranks the quality of each.
And, while she is obviously an expert on the subject, she is able to provide lots of important data in an easy-to-read and fun manner
Two opposable thumbs way way up!.......1996-02-02
Dino-Trekking is the best guide to finding dinosaurs --- and appreciating them once you've found them --- to come along since the dinosaurs were trekking themselves. Engaging, lively, and thorough.
