*Yawn* unbelievable.......2005-02-26
I love cats, and have been known to enjoy dog stories as well, but I thought this book was disappointing. Lori Foster's story... I couldn't even finish it. The ridiculousness of the situation (Buck is in her kitchen at dawn wearing only a bath towel) was incredible. Much was made of the fact that he was such a big, strapping manly man, and Sadie was such a drab, shy mouse. It was all put on just a little too thick. Plus, with all the other peripheral characters mentioned, I felt like I was an outsider at some sort of club, since I'm not familiar with his married friends. All in all, I cut my losses and skipped the story and went on to the next one.
The second story was more enjoyable. Poor Sam, being stood up at his own wedding, and meeting a dog-rescue volunteer by accident. It was relatively believable and interesting. My only quibble is that there wasn't a follow up about how the dog who didn't want to eat magically 'recovered' when the two humans got together for good.
The last story strained my credibility as well. I have nothing against feline sleuths (I love the "Cat Who..." books), but Familiar's stories (and again, we apparently are only seeing a cameo by him, as he has obviously been featured in other books) is just a bit too close to "Twilight Zone" territory. Putting that aside, I also had a major problem with the behavior of the humans. Here's a man with a nine-year-old daughter, and believe me, Mack Sanders doesn't make the best first impression. He sounds pretty much like a close-minded jerk, even when we're in his POV. Anyway, his daughter is missing and then kidnapped by dangerous criminals, and he's thinking about how pretty and sexy the new veterinarian is??? He wants to spend a lot more time with her, get to know her (wink, wink). And he's only known her for less than a day. And oh, did I mention that his daughter is in mortal danger? Get real!!!
Normally I like pet anthologies. I hope I like the next one better.
Heart Warming Story.......2004-08-26
Hunky Buck Boswell falls for his sweet neighbor Sadie in Lori Foster's story Tailspin. The cutest little dogs bring the neighbors together one morning and that is only the beginning. Buck is so enamored with Sadie it doesn't take long for their relationship to get steamy. Then you have the dogs getting closer and well it is just puts a smile in your heart. I especially like visiting characters from previous stories. Another great book that you will want to keep.
Heart Warming Anthology.......2004-08-25
Truth About Cats & Dogs has three great stories.
The first is Tailspin by Lori Foster which has Sadie Harte fostering sick and mistreated dogs to make them ready for adoption. Buck Boswell has tried unsuccessfully to get Sadie's attention until the morning he sees her runing around outside in her nightgown. Butch, the dog he is looking after for his friend who we met in another of Lori's books is smittened by the new dog Sadie is looking after. This is a light hearted read which will have you laughing at both the antics of the humans and pets. This is a great read by Lori.
Kristine Rolofson's story is Second Hand Sam. This is a story about Sam who is left at the alter and on his way home his dog Darcy causes an accident with Jessica Hall who is transporting three dogs she has saved from a shelter to hopefully adoptive homes. This is a heart warming story where along the way they discover that they have a lot more in common than they initially realized. This is a sweet love story set in trying circumstances.
The last story in this anthology is Familiar Pursuit by Caroline Burnes. This is another story in her ongoing storyline about the sleuthing cat Familiar. Vet, Penny Jameson comes to the resuce of 9 year old Miranda who has a litter of kittens that her Dad, Mack Sanders does not want her to have or keep. Mack gets help from Penny, her uncle Peter and Familiar when Miranda goes missing. This is also a touching story.
All three stories are heart warming and touching showing antics of pets and humans, with romance thrown in.

I'm still a big Lori Foster fan!!!.......2004-08-25
Shy, lonely Sadie Harte spends more time fostering animals than fostering human relationships. But when her newest rescue, a balding Chihuahua named Tish brings home a big, gross Cicada in her mouth, it gives both girls a chance to make friends with the boys in the apartment next door. Buck Boswell (whom you might recall from Foster's Men of Courage series) is dog sitting his friend Riley's Chihuahua, Butch. After spending three months wondering about the spinsterish Sadie, Buck is delighted to find her running around in just her nightgown while she tries to dodge her bug toting dog. When the two Chihuahuas meet its love at first sight, rather than break the duo up, Buck decides to use the opportunity to find out more about his next door sweetheart.
After being stood up at his own wedding, ex-football star Sam Grogan, decides to drown his sorrows at Krispy Kreme with his Bull Mastiff, Darcy. Unfortunately, Darcy is more excited about making new doggy friends then he is donuts and runs across the parking lot into the path of an oncoming van. Swerving to avoid hitting the biggest dog she's ever seen, Jessica Hall instead rams a dumpster and totals her car. She wouldn't care so much, but she's transporting three rescue Pekingese from Virginia to Rhodes Island, and she doesn't have enough money for another car. When Sam offers Jess and her dogs a ride, they set off on a trip they'll never forget.
Its opening day for Penny Jameson at her new veterinary clinic and her first customer is nine-year-old Miranda with a box full of motherless kittens. While Penny and her uncle Peter tend to the kittens, Miranda disappears. When Miranda's father, Mack Sanders, comes in asking about her, they soon find out she's been kidnapped by the same men who've been pet-napping animals from around the neighborhood to sell to companies for animal experimentation. But Peter's cat Familiar, the feline sleuth, is on the case. With Familiar's help, Penny and Mack not only solve the case and find Miranda, they also fall in love.
Okay, I'll admit it. I found this book to be a horrible disappointment. I'm a huge fan of Lori Foster and bought the book because her name was on it, but I could barely finish reading it. I've read most of Foster's anthologies and am beginning to think romantic short stories just don't work. I'm either left feeling like the couples are having sex/falling in love too soon, or I'm disappointed because so much other stuff happens besides the romance that the author ends up just tacking the romance in at the end.
I liked the writing, humor, and characters in Foster's story, but the love/sex happened so fast I felt like my head was spinning. Rolofson's writing and characters were good and the story was the most believable, but we never got to the good stuff. And Burnes' story was just ridiculous. I haven't read any of her other feline sleuth stories, but come on, a cat detective? What are we, seven? I bought the book because I like sensual romance and Lori Foster always delivers, I also happen to love animals. But this book was for the dogs. Sorry Lori, you know I love ya.

Cat humor lover.......2006-09-21
Personally I find cats & their interaction with humans to be uproariously funny. This book definitely will be a hit if you have been owned by several or many cats, and have been allowed to live in their house along with them. The illustrations are great and this book makes a wonderful gift for a Cat lover.
The Truth about Cats.......2000-03-28
The book is cute but WAY too advanced for children in the 4-8 age group. Its also a little annoying to read because there isn't really a specific story plot. The book arbitrarily jumps from things like the illustrations of the inside of a cat suit to a story about dogs and cats on earth. I found it hard to follow as an adult and I'm sure that any child from the age of 4-8 would feel the same.

Book Description
Poky discovers that he has a new neighbor: a cat has moved in next door. He and his siblings excitedly share what they know about cats: they have yellow eyes that can see in the dark, they have sharp claws, they have lots of extra lives, etc. Poky goes exploring and comes face to face with the kitten named Shy, but doesn't realize she's a cat until she slyly displays all the characteristics he's heard about while he looks around for the newcomer. The two decide to be friends. Then Shy shows Poky a favorite pastime--playing with mice. When Mischa the mouse appears, Shy toys with him in a way that worries Poky, who interrupts the kitten's fun. When Shy demands to know what Poky's up to, he suggests that instead of each creature just behaving in the manner they're used to, they make a really determined effort to be friends, which they do! This is a sweet story that also has a solid message about friendship and getting past prejudicial stereotypes .

I LOVE POKY--he looks exactly like my beagle, Fielder.......2003-02-05
My beloved angel dog Fielder is a clone of Poky! And maybe because of this (and many other reasons too), I adore the Poky Little Puppy books. I'm not a kid anymore (I'm twentyish), but my mom used to read me these books as a kid and they were my FAVORITES. I still buy them and read them to cheer myself up. I volunteer at an animal shelter whenever I can and it makes me miserable to see how many beautiful dogs and puppies don't have loving homes. If the next generation of kids all read these books, maybe they (like me) will be instilled with the love and respect of God's finest creation (in my opinion), the dog...and all other animals too. And then there will be less strays.

A manual for cat owners........2002-12-22
What a cute little book. Each page has its own cartoon about cat owning rules. And I tell ya 99% of them are true. I don't have a cat myself but my aunt has 2 and everytime I'm there this book is proven to be acurate at least 10 times. Things like 'The Most Comfortable spot for a cat to nap-is any spot you were about to occupy' ring true as well as 'Cats need their space-and your space too'. I totally dig cats AND Garfield. And if you do too then get this book.
A must read for all cat lovers!.......2000-03-30
Oh, I just love Garfield. Only someone who has lived with cats many years can sometimes understand Jim Davis' humor. Every comic strip has truth behind it. Even when presented with Garfield's wicked sense of humor, a cat lover can see the every day life with a cat. Very fun, very true, and a definite must read for all cat lovers!

Book Description
Halloween, present day. Einstein is Kates black cat. Sunny is Kates best friend. Family pets have been disappearing and Kate is worried about Einstein. The girls suspect a ring of petnappers. But, the summer before, Sunnys mother was sure she saw a UFO hovering over Eagle Hill. Kate surprises a strange old woman cozying up to Einstein and is transfixed by the womans unusual eyes; bright blue with light blue flecks. The woman flees, and Kate is sure she is a witch. When she turns up again, Kate persuades Sunny to join her in tracking the woman down. They do, and follow her into an old mine where they receive the shock of their lives. She is an alien who has assumed human form to enable her to pass among people and pets freely for her project, the study of Earths animals. The girls are certain that the woman is shrinking and abducting the animals packed in marble-like spheres. When they find out that the spheres contain holograms to illustrate bodily movement patterns and personality and scientific data about body chemistry, not the real animals, they are relieved and concentrate on the womans friendly mission which is endangered because Earths silicon and oxygen are destroying her instruments. They determine to help her. She is determined to help them find Einstein and loans them a locating-sensor machine. With the aid of the sensor, the girls ultimately find Einstein and learn a lot more about their neighbors son. Airee, the alien, adds tempering information about him from her ability to see into his troubled past and current motivations. (Group acceptance and cruelty to animal is touched on.) Into this fantasy story filled with swirling colors and the theme of understanding, add the friendship of a female alien with a sense of humor. Her repartee with the girls is light and enlightening; her change of appearance from an old, gray haired, darkly dressed bent woman to a more audience acceptable short-skirted young woman is witty; and the gift of healing glead plants to the girls is her thank you and vote of confidence in the young humans.

I love this book!.......2003-08-29
This book is so full of fabulous patterns that you really won't know which one to knit first. Five or six of them are sized for infants, but almost all of them can be made for two- or three-year-olds up to ten-year-olds. I've made a number of patterns from this book and have loved all the end products (as have their wearers).
Some of my favorites: Hero, a Rowan Denim roll-neck with a big white star on the chest; Lucky, a soft moss stitch cardigan for babies; Harry, a cool mock turtleneck with ribbed sleaves; and Daisy, a cardigan with huge flowers all over it. There are also two bags, a hat, two blankets, a pillow, and two scarves.
All of the patterns are pretty simple (beginning to intermediate knitters), but have a special something that makes them fun to make and to wear. I know I'll be knitting from this book for years.
Beautiful basics.......2002-12-17
I love this book. Although I haven't knitted a sweater from this book yet, I am definitely going to. I love knitting sweaters with interesting textures and I am not a big fan of lots of color changes, so this is the book for me. There are lots of elegant, contemporary patterns for kids in here.
Never go out of Style Patterns.......2002-10-04
I just received this book and am already in the midst of making on sweater and have plans to make many more, using all types of yarn to create different effects. The patterns are straight forward and even for the beginner it will draw you in and inspire you to create. The pictures are clear and full page. Many patterns from babies up to 10 year olds. Instructions are quite clear. You can even adapt the patterns for teen if you like. There isn't enough time in the day to make all the sweaters and accessories. This is one of those books when you find you have knitters block that you can pick up and be inspired all over again. LOVED IT, LOVED IT, LOVED IT.
An excellent book!.......2001-10-30
I love this book. The designs are practical and contemporary. The book is well presented and attractive. I have spent hours with this book in one hand and yarn shade cards in the other - planning my next projects! There are very few designs I would not like to knit given limitless time and money. I have had difficulty obtaining some of the recommended yarns (in Australia) but have successfully substituted. The instructions are very easy to follow and are not difficult. There are diagrams showing the dimensions of the garment pieces, which I find invaluable when knitting for my 3 year old daughter who still has a chest measurement of a one year old but is much taller!
Classic Knits for Young AND Bigger Kids!!!.......2001-10-17
The first thing I really loved about this book is that the patterns go up to age 10, a definite plus. Secondly, the models are absolutely beautiful, from all ethnic backgrounds, something you don't see everyday. And thirdly, the patterns are spectaular, especially Crumpet, Muffin, Jolly, Imp, Chill, and Daisy. You will find plenty of inspiration in this book.
Happy knitting!!!

Customer Reviews:
One of a kind--invaluable.......2007-05-22
I have a 4 month old baby. I'm a stay-at-home mom and while I know "everything is fascinating" to such a young baby, the fact is, we have to do something to fill in the hours. I do not think that certain exercises will help baby roll over faster, or that watching Baby Einstein videos will make baby smarter. I DO think that activities are invaluable for bonding with the baby.
Enter this book. This is the book I have been looking for! Other books with activities for babies tend to focus more on the toddler ages--aka after walking, or at least after crawling. This book has fun activities even for pre-crawlers--even for babies who cannot yet move their head! And the activities are grouped month by month. O fcourse, take these monthly guidelines with a grain of salt--every baby is different, and as another reviewer mentioned, crawling at 6 months is a little ambitious. Having just found the book, I've gone back and pulled some activities from the youinger ages as well.
Finally, while the activities may seem simple, even the most creative caregiver cannot think of everything. For example, in the 4 month section, Dr. Segal recommends placing baby on a blanket and picking up the blanket to cause them to roll over. I've been playing rolling-over games with my son, but never thought to use a blanket to roll him over, and it turns out he LOVES it. The activities mentioned have also sparked my imagine for other activities, and at the very least, are invaluable in the middle of the afternoon when baby is on napping strike and the day seems to drag on....
HIGHLY recommend this book!
Best Book on our shelf.......2000-05-05
We have a library of books to help us understand what we can do to best understand and stimulate our childs growth/development(i.e.- What to expect series, Brazleton, Baby book, etc). This is my favorite book since it covers what to expect each month (vs. grouping 6-9 mos developmental stage). In addition it has great ideas for games and play and is very easy to read. Only warning is that relative to other books this book generally is a bit aggressive in its projected milestones (assumes baby will crawl at 6 mos).
Great ideas for parents.......1999-10-09
I admit that I'm not the most creative person at coming up with games to play with my 10 week old son, and this book has been inspirational for me. The ideas about how to teach your baby about where his foot is, or how to sit up, or that bubble float, are terrific, and the look on his face when I do something the book recommends is just pure joy! My only recommendation is that you stay at least one month ahead, and do things from that month which you think your child is ready for.
