This book covers ALL cats in general, it's not specific enough for Persians.
Dissappointing.

The photos inside are very nice but it doesn't represent the standart of persian cat. Here in Brazil the Persian cat is very diferent. Persian's face (principally Persian's nose) is much more different than it is showing in this book.

A great book on Persian cats to start with........2006-03-23

This book is a good book for its size that does covers the basics that you need to know.Shows many variations of the Persians.For me personally finding a book that shows the blue eyed Chinchilla was a bonus.Plenty of colour photos throughout.

If you are thinking of buying a Persian Cat this book will be a good start.Plenty of information here.For its size the book has a lot going for it.The photos are a treat,You're gonna love the photos in this book! This book has a lot to offer and is good value.Overall,a good quality book.

I would suggest that this book be your first book on Persians then consider books on how to look after your kitten(s) and even the Cat encyclopedia type books after.

Nothing Spectacular.......2006-03-16

I had recently got the cutest little Persian Kitten. As a new cat owner I purchased this book to get information specific to the breed. Outside a few pages of breed information, history and pictures, everything else was just general cat information. I would have expected more on breed care, grooming, and health concerns.

This new edition is much more user friendly! It's filled with great information on Persians, like what specific combs and brushes to use. How to give a bottom bath. The lion cut. Not much on genetics, other than genetic disorders, since you can get that anywhere.. And the description of a show hall is right on! And things anyone can use like introducing a new kitten, breaking bad litter pan habits.

Very disappointing book.......2003-08-22

Having recently purchased a Persian I thought this book would be a great place to start - how wrong I was! Only 2 pages dedicated to their behaviour and understanding them so not much use at all to me really. Also it is important to note that (apparently) European Persians have a tendency to have very different personalities to US ones, also in the US Persians are less likely to be 'extreme' (i.e. flat faced).

No information at all on special the dietry requirements of a Persian(in the UK, premium foods such as Hills, Jameswellbeloved etc are recommended by the experts, but no mention of this in book).

Lots of breeder information which is great if you want to breed but it only relates to the USA. Probably a book worth 2 out of 5 in you live in the states, but for UK or European readers i'd give this book a miss.

All the information in there I can find it in a cats magazine. VERY basic information and quite obvious.

Good GENERAL cat book, a little disappointed,though........1999-09-16

I bought the book looking for specific information about Persians. What I got was a little information about Persians and a lot of information about cats in general. I guess if I were interested in breeding or showing, this might be the book to buy, but for a simple cat fancier, it doesn't do it for me.

I think this book is a great Help to anyone thinking of purchasing a Persian.

It covers many, many aspects of the Persian breed. And the information is quite valuable.

I am a breeder of Persions.

I WOULD RECOMMEND OTHERS BEFORE THIS ONE!.......2001-02-24

The only reason this book deserved a three-star rating is for the nice photography and the basic information. If you know nothing about Persians, and have never had one, then whatever you learn is a plus and you would probably benefit from this book. However, if you are experienced with Persians, you will probably find little here that you do not already know, or have not already read in other general cat care books. Granted, many cat breeds have some distinct characteristics, such as the tendancy of some Persians' eyes to "tear and run," and the extra grooming requirements necessary not only for Persians but for any long-haired cat. It is what you might call "Lesson 101 in Persian Education."

THE book about Persian cats.......2007-03-13

If you are interested in cats, previously had Persians, have Persians now or are thinking about getting a Persian cat this is the book for you.

This is the absolute best book on Persian cats out there. Unsurpassed in its wealth of information - especially about breeding and colors. Hundreds of lovely pictures (both color and black/white). Anything you want to know about Persian cats is in here.

Jeanne Ramsdale bred chinchilla Persians (also called silver Persians) under the prefix - or cattery name - 'Dearheart'. Her cats were magnificent and to this day stand out for their exceptional beauty. Just to see the photos of these cats - the book is well worth buying.

Jeanne Ramsdale's love for the Persian cat is obvious throughout - the book is well written and always interesting. She writes knowingly about all aspects of cat care and breeding.

Most of the photos are from the 1960's and 1970's - so this book is also a great historical record about the Persian cat.

The 1976 edition is recommended - it comes in a revised edition with nice sturdy binding.

Highly recommended to any cat lover !

The author is my great-auntie on my mother's side. She was a grand woman of her time.She was well known through the cat world. This book was written about most of her own cats and experiences throughout her life as a cat breeder. Her husband, Dr.P.N.ramsdale,was a well known veternarian in Long Beach, CA,also helped to write the 3 books she had published. They were fascinating people. I sure miss them. They both tragedly passed away almost 15 years ago. Great information books...

First rate history of plants.......2003-06-27

This is an extensively researched and well-written book that investigates how garden plants arrived in England. The writer, a respected garden historian and fellow of the Linnean Society, has chosen to divide her material into centuries. She sets the scene with a look at Roman and Anglo-Saxon approaches to gardening and plants, then gets into more detail about plant immigrants, starting with the first century of the second millennium.

To put the reader more clearly in the picture the writer starts each chapter (century) with a list of significant dates so we can see how historical events influenced the arrival of plants. In the twelfth century, for example, plant introductions were influenced by the Crusades as plants were brought to Britain from the eastern Mediterranean region.

But this is not just a book about plants; it's also about the people associated with them. Sir Thomas More, for example, who in his book Utopia envisaged a town where everyone had a garden around their home.

New plants are still arriving in England from around the world. A "living fossil" tree was discovered in Australia in 1994. Its Latin name is Wollemia nobilis (it was found by David Noble) and it is known as the Dinosaur pine. Plants have been arriving from every continent for centuries and shared back and forth especially to Europe and the US. Just as many new plants went from the New World to brighten English gardens, so seeds and plants were taken to North America by English settlers to create gardens in their new homeland.

If you enjoy reading about the background and history of plants, who found them and how they came to us, you will enjoy this book. It has a very decent bibliography and deserves a place in every plantsman's (and woman's) library.

THIS BOOK IS GARBAGE WHEN IT COMES TO THE HISTORY ABOUT THE HERBS AND MIKE CASTLEMAN STUDY'S ON HOW OLD THE VEDAS IS, IS INCORRECT. IT SEEMS THAT HE HAS TO STUDY MORE. HOW IA A PERSON GOING TO WRITE A BOOK WHEN HE GIVES YOU THE WRONG INFORMATION ON HOW OLD THE VEDAS IS COMMON 4500 YEARS OLD? IT'S MUCH OLDER THEN THAT. HE NEEDS TO STICK TO WHAT HE KNOWS, WHICH IS THE BIBLE.

The one and only book you will ever need on Herbs. A must for anyone who uses them. The best part of the book is the "side affects" to each herb. Something you normally do not hear about, but need to know when taking herbs.

I have been learning about herbs for a few years now, once in a while you run across a book that seems to give you information that others do not, Michael has done just that. It is in terms that I understand, and want to try to grow these plants and learn how to use them. If you are looking for a book that helps you understand, and helps make you feel like you really could accomplish herb growing, please invest in this book. It was orginally found at our local library. Hey, a no risk sneak preview !
