Book Description
A new cartoon collection from nationally syndicated "Sylvia" cartoonist Nicole Hollander, featuring inscrutable felines of impeccable taste. Cats who think too much, cats who plot dastardly deeds but get distracted, cats who hypnotize their owners, cats obsessed with food, food, food. A veritable kitty feast!
Customer Reviews:
More fun some repetition.......2004-07-06
Nicole Hollander's grasp of cat-human relations (you'll note which comes first) is pure genius, and in this second collection she was again delivers some of the most side-splitting bits of prose I've ever come across. Of course, to be fair, I do suppose you have to be something of a cat lover (or at least, live with cats) to understand her wit and humor -- in other words, the concept of two cats holding their owner's 1040 hostage for food might be lost on the uninitiated.
The only negative thing I will say is that this particular volume, "My Cat's Not Fat, He's Just Big Boned", contains some of the same material as her earlier "Everything Here Is Mine", which is the only reason I gave it four stars and not five.
Here's how your cat really thinks..........2004-03-07
Nicole Hollander's Sylvia comic strip is one of the most overlooked (and most hilarious) strips out there. She has many colections out there ("My weight is always perfect for my height--which varies" "You can't take it with you so eat it now" "That woman must be on drugs" etc). She is the Anti-Cathy. She is sarcastic and wacky...dry and droll...and literate and witty. Best of all she has many cat themed collections which are a hoot. THIS one is probably the best. So if you are on the look out for a laugh or if you are a cat person who wonders what is going on inside the walnut-sized brain of your favorite fur-person, the Sylvia collections (especially this one) are just the ticket!
Extremely funny book.......2000-06-19
Anyone who enjoys Nicole Hollander's sly and amusing view of the world will like this book; anyone with a particular fondness for cats probably will, too. If you have ever tried to imagine your cat's motives for doing the things they do, you will enjoy Sylvia's cats, whose motives are hilarious. Many of the jokes are probably above the heads of children, but even they will enjoy the antics the cats get up to.
It's as great -- and even better -- than her previous books.......1999-07-22
I bought this book from Amazon.com about two months ago and, as an admitted cat lover, am still loving this book dedicated to cats (and a small section to dogs). It's on my desk to my right and whenever I need a laugh, I just open up to any one of the pages. Thanks, Nicole!
If you think really hard.... you might get one of the jokes!.......1999-05-08
I saw the cover of this book, and thought it would be a funny addition. I coulden't wait to get it, and laugh my socks off. Once again.. Don't judge a book by it's cover. She has a few funny art clips, but nothing great. I found the book to be more of a put down, than funny. The book is black an white. Not color like the cover. It has 111 pages, and maybe a little cute art. Not a book I would recommend. Why bother wasting your time?
Book Description
Aloof. Haughty. Disdainful. Withholding. Moody. Petulant. Imperious. Sound like anyone you know? It does if you own a cat. And while you’ve probably made hundreds of excuses about why your cat’s this way, the sad fact is—your cat’s just not that into you.
Don’t despair. It’s not you. It’s your cat. Cats invented not being into you. Richard Smith is here to explain, and help.
Forlorn cat owners everywhere will see themselves in this book—in the “I Guess Her Mind Is on Other Things” excuse. In the “Maybe She Needs Her Own Space” excuse. In the “Maybe He Didn’t Recognize Me in My New Hawaiian Shirt” excuse. They’ll educate themselves about feline indifference through the Know Thy Kitty Quizzes. Test their cat’s I.Q. Take the Schnapps-Porsche Well-Adjusted Cat Owner Analysis. Discover Ten Ways to Suck Up to Your Cat, including #2: leave affectionate Post-its in her kitty litter.
In the tradition of
All I Need to Know I Learned from My Cat (1.7 million copies in print),
Kliban’s Cat (985,000 copies in print), and even
New York Timesbestseller
Bad Cat (487,000 copies in print),
Your Cat's Just Not That Into You is utterly loopy and yet dead-on wise—this is, after all, from the author of the classic
Dieter’s Guide to Weight Loss During Sex. It’s filled with insights into the interior life of the world’s most maddeningly mysterious animal, and into the damaged psyches of cat lovers who are so often given to wonder: Am I my cat’s punk?

Your Cat;'s Just Not That into you:"What part of Meow Don't Your Understand.......2007-08-22
I thought this book was hilarious and I love cats. It was meant to be a humorous parody of the human to human relationship books out there. It does stereotype cat behaviours, similar to the self help-relationship books that stereotype gender behaviors. That was the spirit in which it was intended since many of us view our relationship with our pets, similar to our other human relationships.
I think the reviewers that gave this a low rating need to lighten up.
Awful.......2006-08-05
I thought I was buying a book that would give me insight into my cat's world. What I got was a joke book and the punchline is always "Your cats just not that into you." Ok, I get it. I guess I'll take the author's advice and take her to the spa, and drop this book off in a donation bin along the way.
humorous but redundant.......2006-02-25
This book is written from the point of view of someone who doesn't like cats. It's amusing but not laugh-out-loud funny.
Very Funny - Easy to Read - Many Laughs.......2005-09-23
My cat wrote this review. He says, "What I like most about books is that, if you lay on one, people tend to stop reading and pet you. I plopped down on top of this one and it felt pretty comfortable. Sure enough, my pet human stopped and gave me a great massage. She says the book explains why we cats can be aloof and disdainful. It has many "Dear Abby" type letters, classified ads, advice and definitions.
One classified ad read, "If you're submissive, read on. Upbeat, Rubenesque Maine Coon seeks good home with endlessly giving, insecure owner who'll try to please me even when I'm having a hissy fit. The right owner will never assume he's doing too much for his pet, or experience moral outrage if I "get lucky" with a gopher. Let's have lunch and talk."
This book also offers a peek into a cat's mind and offers other advice that our humans ought to know. Hey, my human is still laughing over it -- so it must be good. Besides, I like to see my pets amused. You might want to educate your pet humans with this book, too."

Book Description
Quick, Easy, Inexpensive.
If you're looking for a whole-grain health bonanza with just a few minutes of kitchen time, you've picked up the right book! Modern flour mills and bread machines turn bread making into a task no more complicated than grinding beans and brewing breakfast coffee! Flour Power tells you how to compare, locate and buy one of the thirty different mills on the market, how to buy the "right" wheat and how to make delicious, light, whole-meal loaves -- every time.
Guaranteed Whole-Grain Health.
But why bother grinding flour at home? Flour Power explains why virtually all commercial flours (even "whole wheat") have lost fiber, vitamins, minerals, enzymes and phytochemicals during processing and storage. A diet rich in whole grains has been linked to vastly improved health and lower incidences of diseases such as bowel and colon cancer, hemorrhoids, diverticular disease and cardiovascular disease. But in many cases, researchers aren't absolutely certain which components in the whole grain are actually doing the good work. The only safe way to get all the health benefits is to eat all the grain!
Flour Power also tells you how to get whole grains into the diets of gluten sufferers; grind flour manually, if you prefer; ensure food self-sufficiency in case of natural disasters; make a gourmet cook euphoric; prepare an endless variety of delicious (and healthful!) breads, cakes, cookies, muffins, biscuits, cornbread, etc.; grind other items like corn, rye, beans, spelt, quinoa, even peanut butter; and much, much more.

Flour Power, The complete guide to 3-minute home flour milling.......2006-04-03
Although Amazon does not provide a link to it here, this book has been revised and reissued as Flour Power, A guide to modern home grain milling (ISBN 0970540116 by Marleeta Basey)
Best Thing Since Sliced Bread !!!!.......2004-09-30
My wife read this book and was so excited about making bread at home, that I had to read the book myself to see what all the ruckus was about. I'll have to admit that before I opened the book, I thought that milling raw wheat and making bread was something reminiscent of the "foxfire" series of do-it-yourself books. Was I ever wrong. The book is at once engaging and entertaining. Ms. Basey's research is heads above any I've read. Her knowledge of grain mills, proteins, glutens, natural vitamins and minerals is amazing. Her practical bread-making technique and application is easy to follow and even a tough guy like me can make great bread. I'm not talking bread like some make from a pre-mixed bag of flour bought at the local market. I'm talking the bread that fills the house with that fresh baked smell one never forgets. The kind that causes you to drool waitng for the baking cycle to finish. The kind that begs for fresh butter and a hungry mouth. Thanks for this wonderful resource and congrats on creating the best book of it's kind since sliced bread !!! Pardon the pun, I couldn't resist.
The Most Amazing Book Ever!.......2001-10-04
Flour Power is simply the most amazing book and read I have ever come across. I love bread I love baking bread. However, until getting this book I only made white breads. Now, I am a whole meal bread lover.
Not only does this book cover why you should eat more whole grains, it tells you about the different grains, how to choose and buy a grain mill for milling your own flour at home. It has recipes, a listing of mill sellers and manufacturers, grain sources and more.
Once I started reading, I just couldn't put it down. I read it from cover to cover in one night. I have to tell you that doesn't happen often. If you bake bread by hand, bread machine, mixer, or whatever you have to have this book. ORDER IT NOW!
Flour Power.......2001-07-26
The author did a wonderful job of identifying a large variety of grain mills along with specific issues to consider about each such as overheating which destroys the nutrients one tries to save by home grinding, grinding ranges- powder to chunks, dry versus oily, dust, weight, and noise. The reader is well educated on a vast range of grains including gluten, protein, amino acid, and standard uses of each. On a very practical level, she includes detailed info on how to correct/diagnose a flopped loaf of bread with dough enhancers, ingredient altering, kneading and fermentation processes. There is a sampling of recipes along with appendices to find grain mills and grain sources. She takes the intimidation out of bread making by providing a fabulous foundation of knowledge!
Finally, an easy and delicious way to a healthier life!.......2001-06-16
Really loved your book! Interesting stuff interspersed with humorous facts...very easy reading. I found the historical facts especially entertaining. I'm now committed to a new and healthier way of eating (living)!
Customer Reviews:
Title a misnomer, but still a good book........2007-09-17
The title of the book is a misnomer, since this is far from a complete course on milling. It is, however, a good book for a starter for somebody who's bought a small home mill and has discovered that it's missing even the most basic tools and has no real instructions with it. I've been a machinist since the mid-1980's and have plenty of practice and tools, and there were even a few items among the projects that I intend to build. Given the price, if you've just bought a small mill and haven't the foggiest idea what to do with it, this book is money well spent. I gave it only four stars, however, mainly because it's not what it claims to be when it says it's a "complete" course. Instead, it's an excellent place to start.
Harold Hall Fan.......2007-07-26
I have bought three of Harold Hall's books, and they have all been read, used and re-read.
His writing is clear, expert, well illustrated with clear photographs and drawings and the projects are very suitable to anyone starting in this fascinating field of metal working. They are good bed side reading and/or workshop guides for the actual projects.
The books in the Workshop Practice Series are compact, about 128 pages, but contain a surprisingly large amount of information, and are good value.
The projects in "Milling" are graded from easy to intermediate difficulty, and each tool made can be used in later projects. Each project introduces new milling techniques and information, and in the course of the entire book most major milling procedures which might be used by the hobbyist are covered. The subtitle "A complete course" is appropriate.
The tools look really interesting and useful, and I plan to make most of them.
I strongly recommend this book, and also "Lathework- A Complete Course" and "Tool and Cutter Sharpening" by the same author.
Milling a complete course.......2007-05-13
Very good for learning new techniques. Covers setup and operation of most home shop mills. I am building the advanced tool sharpener holder which is one of the projects presented. It was an unexpected challenge to convert the dimensions from mm to inches, but a good exercise.
I also learned several milling techniques that I was unaware of. A great book for the price. The "Lath a complete course" is a good companion book and both books compliment each other.
Great projects.......2007-02-27
Excellent book. I'm most impressed by the projects, which allow the reader to gain basic skills, then use them to build a series of useful and increasingly complex tools.
A complete milling course.......2007-02-24
Excellent book, well written, valuable material and clearly illustrated. I have most of the Workshop practice series and will buy more. Highly recommended.

Customer Reviews:
Really Pleased.......2006-08-20
I got this book for my son and daughter-in-law for their first baby. They use it for a reference for all things to do with their new son and my beautiful first grandchild.
Very Helpfull.......2000-12-11
Me and my wife are having out first baby in March. I bought this book after reading previous reviews. This book was very helpfull in pointing out the basics on every aspect of having a baby. It really gives you information on every subject and provided me and my wife with a list of decisions we needed to make. I would highly recommend this book for first time parents who want a non biased approach on baby care.
A great gender neutral book.......1999-07-21
I loved this book! I liked how the author doesn't focus this book to moms, but refers to "parents" in everything she writes (with the obvious exception of breastfeeding). Her advice is good, practical, and non-judgemental. She discusses issues such as cloth vs. disposable and breast vs. bottle without pushing a particular point of view. She covers important topics many new parents don't think of, like wills and insurance coverage. This is an excellent guide for new parents and non-traditional couples (singles and gays).
BETTER and FRIENDLIER THAN BASIC!.......1998-11-17
Ms. Blocker's book goes beyond basics in the friendliest format I've ever seen. This is the book I send all my friends who are expecting whether for the first or fifth time. Even after 5 of my own, I learned from it and found it simple to locate anything I wanted to look up. Her solid advice on pre-birth clothing and supply buying, on what to look for in pre-owned items (practical!) and on almost everything else is fresh and accurate. Only one wish: more about breastfeeding, especially for working women. Ms. Blocker's high degree of professionalism and practical experience shine through on every page -- it's like having a conversation with a knowledgeable, favorite friend who's the best mom you know. Her "Practical Parenting" sidebars add a special touch to this book not found in other 'raising baby' manuals. This isn't 'how to', it's 'why to' and 'have you considered' and 'maybe you might want to think about...' She doesn't give orders, only bright, sensible suggestions. Buy -- enjoy -- apply what she says. You can't go wrong!
A practical guide for new parents on a budget........1998-08-24
I am a 69 year old grandmother who would have greatly appreciated this book when I was raising my children. After reading the book I gave a copy to my daughter who has two small children. Pointing out the importance of the safety aspect of baby products without leading parents to spent beyond their budget should be high on the priority list for new parents. This book is a common sense, easy to read book covering most aspects of raising a baby.
Customer Reviews:
The book is BASIC baby care - what everyone needs........1999-09-20
How often have we tried to sift through all the clutter of the encyclopedic volumes of baby care advice usually found on the bookshelves today? With Dr. Carl Robinson's Basic Baby Care, there's no problem. It's written in simple, easy-to-understand words of wisdom from an African American pediatrician who saw the need to present his expertise and experience in a format anyone could understand. And it works. Targeting a segment of the population that may or may not have a level of education needed to decipher complicated medical terms, and offering no-nonsense advice about such things as child abuse, male/female relationships, and single parenting, Dr. Robinson has succeeded, in only 160 pages, in making readers say, "THAT'S what I needed to know!"
