Not for the beginner.......2007-02-13
This is a great idea book for the experienced scrapper. The designs are beautiful, and many are unique and haven't been published elsewhere. Unfortunately, most of the designs are not for beginners. If you are a beginner, buy the book for inspiration and tackle the designs as you gain more experience.
Not your average scrapping book.......2006-03-03
To fully appreciate this book, you need to be artistic, or at least pretend to be. I was born with minimal talent as an artist, but I have developed my artistic sense as I aged, trying different art forms and expressions to counterbalance my awfully left brained life. Scrapbooking has offered me an artistic outlet like nothing else and this book might help you see what I mean. Scrapbooks in the modern sense can swing, unfortunately, from the maudlin, sappy crap of Middle America to pieces of high art. This book takes you closer to the art scene than the coffee klatsch. The only down sides of this book are:
1. It has other stuff in it besides scrapbooks- I don't really care or want to see altered CD cases or jars. Not my thing.
2. It is artistically narrow in its approach, riding the surf of the "altered" wave that is so popular these days. This is a style, I believe, that will pass. Not that there is anything wrong with this style. One problem with scrapbooking is the styles go out faster than hemlines, but what's a scrapper gal to do? Your best bet: try all different styles in your books!

What a spectacular book! Each page holds something new. There are so many projects that are recreatable, with only a tiny bit of altering to make them your own. A complete book full of eye candy. Eight artists come together to showcase some amazing work that spans between all the creative types. Plain and simple to complex collage. A must have :)
Luxurious & adaptable.......2005-01-09
The layouts in this book are beautiful. Lots of great tips on achieving these great effects AND details in the appendix. Experienced scrappers will like the help moving to the next level. Highly recommended!

No two writing situations are exactly the same and skilled writers, like skilled painters, must develop the know-how to represent the objects of their writing as part of a flexible art. This special art of writing lies hidden between grammar--the well-formedness of sentences--and genre--the capacity of texts to perform culturally holistic communicative functions (e.g., the memo, the strategic report, the letter to the editor). Concealed between grammar and genre, this less visible art of writing is what Kaufer and Butler call "representational composition." Texts within this hidden art are best viewed not primarily as grammatical units or as genre functions, but as bearers of design elements stimulating imagistic, narrative, and information-rich worlds, and as an invitation to readers to explore and interact with them.
This volume presents a systematic study of the principles that underlie writing as representational composition. Drawing from student models derived from a studio method, the authors use each chapter to present a different aspect of what unfolds--across the course of the book--into a cumulative, interactive, and unified body of representational principles underlying the design of texts. They reveal what makes the textual representations achieved by expert writers worthwhile, and, at the same time, difficult for novice writers to reproduce. Extending the framework of their 1996 volume, Rhetoric and the Arts of Design, into a realm of textual design, this volume will interest students and instructors of writing, rhetoric, and information design.

I am a student at Kansas State University in Landscape Design, and this book is wonderful for getting ideas, symbols, and disign techniques. My professors own this book, and constantly approve and recommend this book for sudents. Although it is titled for a private resident, professional landscapers use this book also. This is one book you should add to your library.

Great Resource for Landscape Architects.......2002-11-19
Booth and Hiss describe in much detail the design process for residential landscapes. They strike a proper balance between basic design concepts and essential business knowledge. Landscape design students would do well to internalize the process described here, since the book's practical focus is unlikely to be duplicated in their Landscape Architecture curriculum.
Excellent.......2002-05-18
This book is truly a gem -- it clearly and concisely explains every imaginable aspect of residential landscape design using very straigtforward and easy to understand text and diagrams.
Ignore the fact that this seems to have been written as some sort of textbook for a beginer's course for professional landscape architects. I am an ordinary homeowner and I found the book to be easy and enjoyable to read, and quite educational. I now feel like I understand enough to design a professional quality landscape for my own home.
In case it matters, I own the second edition (Amazon is now selling the third edition). I can only assume that this latest edition is even better than the edition I have.

This is one detailed overview of Ruisdael's work... :) For those interested in 17th century Dutch landscape painting and/or more specifically Jacob van Ruisdael, this book is a must-have. Beware though that it is a very specific book; so unless you already have some art history under your belt, I wouldn't recommend it.
All in all, a very excellent book for its type, by a VERY knowledgeable writer.
(see also "Dutch Painting. 1600-1800" by the same writer, which is a less detailed, more general book on Dutch 17th century painting)

Great book.......2007-10-01
I think this book is fantastic. It is an easy read and the kind of book I could not put down. Some people have said in their reviews they think it is a bit out dated, but from a psychological perspective the theories and ideas put forth in the book are classic and still used today. I think it is a great book for students, but I am not so sure parents would find it helpful. The book is written from more of a clinical perspective that parents may not find very helpful and may even take offense or not fully understand certain things discussed in the book.
Excellent resource for parents, students, and professionals.......2006-02-27
This book is an excellent resource for anyone interested in the development of infant/parent bonds, and the importance of such bonds to social, emotional, behavioral and language development. The book easily combines both clinical and theoretical viewpoints, and offers a sequence of how and when attachments begin, the elements necessary for positive attachments, and several case histories illustrating the authors' viewpoints. This volume would be of particular interest to students studying early child development as it is clearly written, and begins to bridge the gap between observation of infant/parent attachments, assessment, and intervention.
Good read For Both the Professional and Parent.......2003-05-24
This is a good book for both professionals and parents, who would like to know more about the science behind their baby's behavior. However, there is not dry statistics. Rather, the science is clearly explained with many "real life" examples. In the table of contents, each section is clearly labeled, so you can either read the whole book or go to relevant chapters. This is a very good book to start exploring attachment research and issues.
Brazelton is a well know scientist who is a pioneer in early development research. His neonatal behavioral assessment scale (described in chpt. 8) is the professional gold standard used by many researchers, health professionals, and child-related agencies.
I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in infant research and early development.
