Book Description

Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.

Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.

5 out of 5 stars Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09

There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.

For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.

It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.

4 out of 5 stars History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10

Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.

I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.

Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.

Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.

I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.

This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

Anyone who's ever gone shopping for wedding clothing knows how startlingly pricey veils are. With even the simplest bridal headpieces taking a hefty bite of the wedding budget, it only makes sense to make it yourself if possible. Fortunately, with the help of "I Do" Veils and the wonderful (and inexpensive) lace, veiling, silk flowers and pearls that are widely available, it can be a fun project and not an arduous task. There are tips for selecting the right headpiece style for your face, figure and dress (whether it's a simple barrette with bow or an ornate tiara with cathedral-length veil) ; illustrations to help you decide how elaborate you want your hat, veil, comb or clip to be; and hundreds of embellishment techniques involving nothing more complicated than a hot glue gun. The directions are easy to follow, and for those who don't have a good bridal section in their local fabric and notions store, the list of wholesale and retail mail-order suppliers will be invaluable.

Customer Reviews:

1 out of 5 stars So dated it's useless..........2006-07-10

Take a good look at the headpiece on the cover, it's typical of the styles you'll find inside. If you'd like to make a hideous 80's style headpiece with fake flowers, pearl sprays, and large poufs, then this is the book for you. Though there's a brief discussion of the different lengths of veils, the author does not explain how to cut the veiling to achieve different shapes, and the poorly drawn illustrations are inadequate to demonstrate actually attaching the veil to the comb or headpiece, which for most styles you have to do in a somewhat counterintuitive way to hide the comb, and which the book does not mention or illustrate. However, there are entire pages dedicated to oudated topics such as decorating a banana clip and covering a pillbox hat. There are NINE pages discussing picture/portrait hats and even a discussion of cowboy hats (I love the suggestion that you add a tiara to your cowboy hat to "formalize it"), but very little that's relevant for the modern bride.

I can't believe this book has copyright dates of 1996 and 2001, as these styles were dated even then. The whole book is in black and white, and there are no photos, just poorly done line drawings. Though you might be able to pull a few basic techniques from this book, your time would be better spent visiting a bridal shop and studying the construction of the veils there, which won't cost you a dime. If you need a book to tell you to keep your veil away from your cat (seriously, there's even a drawing), or to warn you of the slip and fall dangers of a runaway pearl or scraps of tulle, maybe craft projects involving hot glue guns and sharp objects aren't your best choice. For me, this was a total waste of money.

4 out of 5 stars Almost made me want to go out and get married!.......2006-07-07

I was interested in making veils after I made one for my neice's Halloween costume. I really liked this book.

She starts out with your work area, and goes on to cover every type of veil imaginable. Hats, combs, headbands, headpieces, poufs--a sewing extravaganza. She covers materials, embellishments and edgings. She also does bridesmaid's and flower girl headpieces and covers how to attach the veil to your head so it won't slide off, and how to store it afterward.

The only thing that holds this book back from a 5-star rating is her lack of yardages, a rather major flaw. She may occasionally say, "Take an 8-18 inch wide piece of illusion from 54-72 inches long," but this is way too general. She also doesn't say how many yards of material to purchase!

5 out of 5 stars Thanks to this book, I can truly say "I Do" Veils"!.......2001-09-28

I've had this book for quite a while now, and used it to make beautiful veils for two nieces and three of my daughter's friends. Since it first came out when headpieces and veils were more elaborate than they are today, you can find the directions for just about any headpiece and trimming there is. The illustrations and directions are very clear, and you can always simplify the ideas to make the plainer veils that brides like now. By the way, the last one I made cost just $18.00 to make, so the bride saved over $100.00!

2 out of 5 stars Needs more photo's.......2001-03-25

I didn't like the book and returned it. There are no color photos in the book all black and white and very wordy. If you are a crafty person who likes lots of text descriptions it is probably a good book but if you like photos to follow it is not for you.

2 out of 5 stars Poor visuals and out of date styles.......2000-11-11

I was not impressed with the quality of this book. The instructions are informative and easy to follow but the headpiece designes are out of date. The pictures are hand drawn and do not capture the instructions they are depicting. I have learned about the steps and general techniques of veil making after reading this book. However, I think color photos and updated designes would be helpful.

    Book Description

John Bryan's substantive revision to his original magnum opus published in 1989 — selected by the American Horticultural Society as one of the 75 great American gardening books— provides expanded coverage of some 230 genera and a staggering number of species, varieties, and cultivars. Genera are treated with detail appropriate to their importance, with information on history, classification, culture, propagation, pests and diseases, uses, and species and cultivars. Detailed encyclopedic plant listings are complemented by an equally comprehensive pictorial presentation. Not only are there more than 1100 color photographs — many showing the plants in their natural habitats — but there are also 43 color reproductions of botanical illustrations from 19th-century issues of Curtis's Botanical Magazine and other publications, taken from the author's extensive collection.

    Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars John Bryan Bulb book.......2007-06-27

This is an excellent reference book, listing all types of bulbs, from the common garden variety to the more obscure varieties. Listings also include all the hybrids and new cultivars. The book is well set out with many colour photos of the different species. A must for any home library and avid gardeners anywhere.

5 out of 5 stars most thorough bulb book on the market.......2006-04-02

After reviewing many books on bulbs, this one has risen to the top. It is easily the most thorough and up-to-date reference covering the full range of geophytes.

One of the features I like best in this book is the short, easy to read and well-diagrammed Botany and Classification of Bulbs chapter. It is a very well written introduction that includes explanations of the jargon and theories used by taxonomists and horticulturists. This is a great intro for early students of horticulture to grasp the bigger picture.

The majority of the book is an A-Z, with accompanying line drawings as well as hundreds of color images. Each entry covers the family, culture, pests and disease, propagation, and all relevant species. The use of the new family classification is appreciated, with a handy reference to the previous family in parenthesis.

Speaking of families, there is a great explanation of all the families of bulbous plants in Appendix A. Appendix B has all the bulbs around the world listed by country of habitat. The list of flowering time is not particularly useful though becuase it only breaks down into the 4 seasons. Early, mid, and late season classifications would be nice. There is a short list of plants for specific purposes - fragrance, cutting, etc. There is a very thorough bibliography and a common name index.

This is a large and heavy book, but worth every penny. The descriptions are written in an easy to read style and it is the most thorough and complete book on bulbs I have seen.

4 out of 5 stars An Amazing (Almost Overwhelming) Reference... .......2005-08-06

Considering myself to be only an average (although passionate) gardener, I purchased this book because I was looking for a good reference on the topic of bulbs. An amazingly exhaustive volume that was honored by the American Horticulture Society and named one of '75 Great American Garden Books', 'Bulbs' by John E. Bryan is almost overwhelming for the average gardener.

The beginning chapters of 'Bulbs' cover the normal gardening topics such as a brief bulb history, nomenclature, propagation, cultivation, forcing, and pests & diseases. The main bulk of the book (and it's real use) is the alphabetical listing of bulbs by genus. Included in each genus listing are general historical and general remarks followed by advice on their culture, pests and diseases, propagation methods and an amazingly complete listing of the species. The 1,171 photographs in the book are compiled alphabetically in three sections of plates, meaning that to see the plant photo referenced in the text you have to flip to the plant photo plate section of the book. These photos are (IMHO) generally of good quality and include flower close-ups, the entire plant, historical flower drawings/plates as well as pictures of some of the bulbs in the wild of mixed quality.

What makes this book seem overwhelming to the average gardener (i.e. me) is the sheer amount of information (in comparison to other gardening books). Following the listing of each species is a description of the plant, (possibly) individual cultural information and a list of known cultivars. In the case of very large or extensively hybridized genuses (i.e. tulipa) where there are many different 'families' of plants (i.e. Single early tulips, Darwin hydrid tulips, Lily-flowered tulips, etc), the families of plants are listed and described in detail with a few representative cultivars listed followed by the individual species. Because of this, 'Bulbs' can seem decidedly 'unfriendly' toward the average gardener (i.e. someone who just wants to look up the best red tulip cultivars). Furthermore, because 'Bulbs' lists all of the known species within the genus and not just the common 'garden worthy' varieties, I found it is very easy to get overwhelmed by the sheer number of entries. However, it is also this completeness that also makes this book an invaluable reference for the more advanced gardeners, collectors and scientists alike. (In the case of the extensively hybridized genuses (i.e. tulips and daffadils), a more specialized reference book would probably be more appropiate than this through bulb survey.)

Overall, I believe that 'Bulbs' is an amazingly through book, but perhaps a little too through for the average gardener (I'm still keeping an eye open for a good garden bulb book - and I'm not a big fan of those smaller sized Taylor guides - any suggestions?). For the serious gardener, though, this book is a must read.

            Book Description

If you’ve ever tried to tell your six-year-old how babies are made or your fourteen-year-old how condoms work, you know that grappling with telling your kids about sex can be a sweat-drenched exercise. But it doesn’t have to be. Everything You Never Wanted Your Kids to Know About Sex (But Were Afraid They’d Ask) is a one-of-a-kind survival guide that will help you stay sane through every stage of your child’s sexual development. After interviewing scores of parents and analyzing decades of scientific research, two nationally respected, Harvard-trained physicians share their expertise in this brilliantly insightful, practical, and hilarious book that has fast become the leading resource for parents of toddlers to teens. This indispensable guide covers all the bases, including:

            • What to expect at each stage of your child’s development and how you can influence it from birth onward
            • What to tell your kids at every age about sex and how to get the conversation going
            • What to do when your five-year-old turns up naked with the girl next door, your toddler is rubbing on her teddy bear, or your six-year-old walks in on you having sex
            • How to avoid unnecessary clashes with your middle-schooler while managing privacy, crushes, and what to wear
            • How to encourage your teenager to use contraception without encouraging her to have sex, and how to help her choose the method that’s best for her

4 out of 5 stars Not for those who like to cut to the chase.......2007-08-17

While a good, solid resource by two learned academics, I was a bit disappointed w/ this read, which seemed to spend more time trying to be witty than actually getting to the "meat" of the info. Not meant for parents with "conservative" family values, this book is jam-packed w/ stories, some which seem exaggerated, in its attempt to be edgy (which to some may be read as crass). The authors clip over developmental changes of boys and girls at almost too fast a pace, making the work not as thoughtful as it could be. It also overly generalizes children's responses and behaviors. Overall, it's difficult for readers to pull out important info.

5 out of 5 stars Wildly entertaining for a "how to" book!.......2007-08-03

Half way through the first chapter, I was nodding, laughing and remembering. The author and editors are dead-on with their descriptions and stories. Their advice is absolutely bar none.

I put down the book after the first chapter and realized that it was so well written that I would have read it if it WASN'T recommended by the therapist who sees my two step-children who are currently in heat. I reported back to him with rave reviews.

A must read for anyone who has, or wants, kids. Period. It will make your life so much easier...

5 out of 5 stars not exhaustive, but very close.......2007-03-20

This book is lengthy and full of useful information, ranging from how to deal with your child's sexuality from baby to teen; masturbation; attraction; orientation; pregnancy; parenting; and everything in between. A very well written book.

            5 out of 5 stars A must buy!.......2007-02-01

I read the book and wish I had read it sooner and then I gave it to my 15 year old to read as well.

Much better than A chicken's guide to talking turkey with your kids about sex (preachy at best, as in religious zealots).

I think books are a useful tool to open up lines of communication and purchased this author's book, Everything You Never Wanted Your Kids to Know About Sex with a copy of Dr. Ruth's Sex for Dummies for my older teen. I also read and shared, Human Sexuality by Roger R. Hock.

It is my personal feeling that providing your child with information about thier bodies will help them keep themselves healthy. It does not mean we give them our blessings to do whatever they want nor does it mean we have the right to make choices for them. We do as parents have the responsibilities of educating them.

As I have multiple children and liked her reasonable approach I also purchased Dr. Ruth Talks To Kids for my pre-teen. I also recommend the American Medical Association (Boy's/Girls) Guide To Becomming A Teen, and a copy of It's Perfectly Normal.

Copies of It's So Amazing and It's Not The Stork are also worth having kicking around the house but I did find the books to be rather long so don't be surprised if your active younger child does't want to go over them in one sitting.

Sexual development does begin in utero and it is time the average parent understood it better. That "talk" isn't just one talk you have with your child but a series of conversations in the car, at the supper table, when you are getting dressed in the changing room, changing diapers, in front of your best friend, at the doctor's office, and so on. If you are feeling a little shy about it- this book is for you.

What a wonderful book for mother's like me who are freaking out when our 6 year olds start asking about sex. It helps make the topic easy. Nice book.
