Image craft.......2002-07-16
The pictures this book paints are dynamic and form the feel of watching a film. This leads to an easy reading book that flows off the pages.
Complaints about the ending are misfounded, subtle elements introduced when Ragnar gets acustomed with the Wolf Lords, come back into play when he himself is described as one.
An exsellent novel for light and fun reading. Warhammer 40k Players will appreciate it only more.
William King needs to learn how to end a book.......2002-05-15
The book itself was ok - I really liked the interaction between Ragnar and Sven, but damn, the ending just came up and hit you. It was like someone told him to stop the book at page 288 and when he hit it, he just ended the book.
The whole premise to the story is "how did Ragnar become a wolflord without first becoming a Grey Hunter." Did he tell you this? No. There was a fairly lame plot device (like you'd see in a RPG) to get some action in, but there was little to none plot resolution at the end.
I was really hoping King would improve on his endings from his Gotrek and Felix stories, but in fact, he's getting worse. If you liked the first two books, you'll probably like this one, but I cannot highly recommend it.
More insite into the Space Wolves.......2002-03-19
I think that this was an excellent book. You learn a lot about how the Wolves are run, from the low ranking Blood Claws, to Logan Grimnar, the Great Wolf himself. I would have prefered more action though. There is a lot of developement in Ragnar's character though, and it makes me wonder how high he will climb in the Space Wolves.

Much-Needed Photographs of Rapidly Disappearing Plants.......1999-09-07
A must-have for every library in south Texas. This well-organized book fills a large gap in reference material about vegetation which remains undisturbed on less than 95% of south Texas' landmass. Placement of photos and construction of keys make this an excellent introductory text for students of botany. It's the first volume I can recommend to junior-high and high school teachers as a "user-friendly" approach to keying south Texas herbs. Lots of south Texas plants remain unmentioned here, however. Let us not assume that they are nonnative or without "use to livestock and wildlife."

This book is nothing more than a compilation of information that can be had for free from the county extension agents. I found nothing new in it. Your time would be better spent talking to the county agent and getting specific information for you county, as it would be easier to find that way, than in this book.
Best Texas vege gardening book!.......2004-07-25
This book has been indispensable to me!!! This book, along with The Vegetable Gardener's Bible, have been my "text books" in starting a garden. Without them, I wouldn't have such a great garden. These books take the guess work out of what to do. Thanks Mr. Garrett and Mr Beck!!!
Great Book On Organic Gardening.......2000-02-28
Howard covers the essentials of Basic Organic Gardening as well as the how to's. I bought the book at Rohde's for about the same price before shipping. If you can't get to Garland; but it here. We just completed our 20'x20' raised bed garden. Our front yard is the lushest greenest yard in the neighborhood with NO CHEMICALS. We have been a fan of Howard for a few years now.

Fun, accessible resource.......2000-08-18
I refer to this little book again and again. The sections on propagation of herbs are invaluable, well-illustrated and easy to understand. If you love herbs and garden in Texas, you need this book. I would love to see the author's list of herbs expanded in a future edition. The only real down-side to the book is the author's recommendations for watering. I've found that in San Antonio, my herbs take a lot more supplemental watering than he recommends. Remember, Sol Meltzer lives in Houston, an area which gets more rain than the other two-thirds of the state. Also, I'd rather see more information on the plants than have recipes in the back. Still, it's deservedly a classic Texas gardening book.
Good herb book.......2000-08-08
Meltzer's guide to growing and using herbs offers useful information on raising herbs organically and inexpensively. It is filled with practical information and helpful hints.

Good "all around" herb book.......2001-07-08
I've been an herb enthusiast for 15 years. With my personal home library of herb books reaching over 90 volumes, I've read many approaches to this topic. This particular book is large, full of quality color photos, and contains useful information for Texas herb growers (what I used to be). Latin names of herbs are given (along with proper pronunciation). Mr. Garrett includes pertinent information on planting, height and spread of plants, problems, harvest and storage, and culinary, medicinal, and landscape uses. One of my favorite portions of this book is the "insight" paragraph of each herb's profile. Did you know that there is evidence that alfalfa may trigger lupus in sensitive individuals? Also, did you know that although you can use angelica in salads, the juice of the plant should never come in contact with the eyes? I'd recommend this book for those new to herb growing or as an addition to an already diverse herb library. Mr. Garrett includes information that makes this book worth owning. My paperback copy has been a valuable resource.

TOO EXPLICIT.......2005-08-01
I purchased this book to give to my sons and daughter in laws so that they may have information to help protect my grand children from sexual predators. As I read the book I became quite concerned by the explicit and detailed descriptions of abuse. I feel that the author went considerably farther than necessary to make her point. Some of the descriptions verged on cheap dime store novels. I purchased the book because of one review that stated she was a victim of abuse and felt that the author did not go into great detail about the molestation cases. I think she is dead wrong. It is true that there is adequate information on how to identify a predator and protect your children, but one has to wade through and endure a lot of sleaze. I finally quit reading the case histories as they were presented. It was very painfull to read the explicit descriptions of what these children went through. I was never abused, but could empathize with their pain. I am returning the book to the dealer for a refund

The information in this book is very good. I worked in a several different male correctional facilities and have read many prisoner files on these types of crimes. She gives parents some good advise on what to look out for. I think all parents and anyone who works with children should read this book.

As a nurse, i found this book to be an eye-opener. It is a must read for anyone with a child or who works with children or for anyone in general who has a concern. I found that I was quite taken by some of the chapters & found them quite informative. The information on how to identify sexual predators was most helpful. Those in medical, will fine this book most helpful, when dealing with questionable situations/settings.
A MUST READ!!!!.......2004-02-25
After the press told the story of little Carlie Brucia, I believe this book should have been purchased by everyone. This book gives insight and teaches us caution not just for ourselves but for our children. this is a marvelous book.
I want to recommend to the reading audience a couple of other books, NNIGHTMARES ECHO, LOST BOY, SICKENED and BEAUTY FOR ASHES. Please read and learn what can happen to a child right under our noses and also make sure to read PROTECTING YOUR CHILDREN..so you will know some of what is needed to protect.

If you have the internet,if you have kids (THIS IS A MUST READ FOR PARENTS!), if you love kids, if you work around kids, if you hate the actions of pedophiles that become sexual predators and feel they should be incarated unitl Jesus comes back, or you think hey should get treatment and that is the best solution, get the freakin book!
It covers all of these issues and all of the operations and catching these sexual predatory dirtbags. ( Ofcourse I'm a "locker upper!")It is a great read, Chris Hansen is well spoken on all issues, and just does a great job with this one! Its full of information and sometimes will make you say "What" and sometimes "HMMMMM." It is probably the best beginners book for reading on the issue of online predators. There are more explicit and problably more scientific ones but this should be on every internet crimes against children bookshelf. GET THE BOOK!!!

if you have children and a computer.
More than just a rundown of the TO CATCH A PREDATOR Dateline NBC series (although it does do that), this book also contains heartbreaking stories of children who have been exploited -- and in some cases murdered -- by predators they met on the Internet.
Chris Hansen does a great job of illustrating the fact that the computer and the Internet, as a whole, are useful tools that even younger children can take advantage of. But his tips and hints for protecting your children from online predators are something that EVERY parent needs to read -- and then share with their kids.
While I tried to avoid scaring my two children (ages 10 and 6), I have sat them down and discussed the dangers that can be found on the Internet. Just as predators in real life don't always look like what they are, I think my kids now understand that people they could meet online aren't necessarily who they claim to be, either.
I highly recommend all parents, especially those of teens and pre-teens, who have a computer pick up a copy of TO CATCH A PREDATOR. You'll be amazed, frightened, and instilled with a sense of urgency when it comes to the protection of your kids.

I enjoyed the book, it expands on the television series and gives some insight into protecting your children. It is a great tool for anyone that has children and gives some great tips on using the internet and also what to look for if you have a child that uses the internet.
