Give it a Paw..er Thumb's Up!.......2001-05-03
This money-saving book is helping me pamper my poodle the way she deserves. When I bring home the discount brands of dog food or doggie treats, her nose turns up before it's even out of the bag. This helps me find ways to afford the quality stuff. Plus it offers a lot of other advice on good buys for your pet.

It works. I just got a Collie that would've cost me $300!.......2001-04-24
I got the greatest collie for free and am now using other ideas from the book to get free dog food and toy samples, and cut rate vet visits. I really recommend this book to all animal owners and lovers.

As every parent knows, licensed Harry Potter merchandise has exploded on the marketplace, but now young wizard hopefuls can learn how to make their very own magic gear with The Book of Wizard Craft. Although this inventive and engaging volume bears no actual connection to the mighty Master Potter, many of the projects were clearly inspired by his adventures and attributes. Seems just about everyone is jumping on the wizard-craze bandwagon these days, but this spirited incarnation is done with skill.
Wishing to pass along his 600 year's worth of arcane lore, the ancient wizard behind this creative collection shares his secrets for wizard regalia (bejeweled turban, hourglass pendant, magic cloak, wands, staffs, and the obligatory robe), the decorative arts (magic carpet, crystal ball, celestial sheets), horticulture (fairy circle, carnivorous-plant terrarium), animal husbandry (dragon scales, eye of newt, apothecary carry-all), book arts (secret journal, invisible inks, quill pen), astronomy (constellation caster), alchemy (magic potions galore), and amusement (party ideas, decorations, spooky edibles), and much more. Bewitching painted illustrations add sprightly fun and help to further clarify relatively good directions. Even kids who want nothing to do with sorcery in the craft room will enjoy reading the magical myths, international legends, and witchy stories. --Amy Handy

A mold garden? What a brilliant idea. As if mold isn't spreading fast enough already and ruining homes and wrecking lives and clogging the courts. Just Brilliant. The Book of MORON Craft: In Which the Apprentice Finds Kids, and makes them into MORONS.

Imaginative!.......2005-12-16
Very cool book - my 10 year old loves it and wants to make everything in it. Neat padded cover - great for the Harry Potter generation. Wish this was around when I was 10!
It's Magical!.......2005-03-29

My Children Wanted to Start Right Away!!.......2004-02-03
This book is fantastic. We received the book today in the mail. My two children and I looked at the book from cover to cover. They told me they want to start tomorrow on making the crafts that are in the book.
This book is perfect for Harry Potter fans. From robes, to wands, potions, hiding boxes, crystal balls..you name it.
The way the author has written this book is funny. You can just feel the author enjoyed writing this book.
My children loved it as soon as I turned the first page.
Best Book EVER!.......2003-06-15
I personally would recommend this book to anybody, Harry Potter fan or not. This is a great book, and it tells how to make two different kinds of wands, robes, cloaks, crystal balls, potions, a wizard's hat, turban, and more! It also tells how to make a wizard party, etc.
I got this book for my birthday about two years ago, and I've read it through at least ten times since then. If I have nothing to do, I just sit down and read it. It's got lots of stories, so if you just feel like reading, it's the right book.
I hope this was helpful!
Book Description
Even the most creative cooks sometimes need to spice up their menus, and there's nothing like a fiery flavor to add a kick to ho-hum cuisine. From chiles and chipotle to wasabi and ginger, every culture has its own way of making food that sizzles with excitement. In The Spicy Food Lover's Bible renowned fiery foods experts Dave DeWitt and Nancy Gerlach bring together more than 250 recipes for hot stuff from around the globe, along with a wealth of related food information.
The ultimate book on the subject, this authoritative guide begins by exploring the main ingredients that give the world's food its spice, with details on their history and horticulture, as well as how to use, purchase, and grow them. The recipes that follow-Moroccan Charmoula, Gravlax with Creamy Mustard Sauce, Kung Po Chicken, Tamarind Mint Shrimp Curry, and many more-display an astonishing range of tastes and preparations, from the mildly piquant to the red-hot. Also featured are guidelines for putting together spicy meals with the ideal combination of flavors, colors, and textures, including "cool-down dishes" and beverage pairings. The Spicy Food Lover's Bible is the only book home cooks will ever need to turn up the heat on their everyday cooking. He has written more than 30 cookbooks, including The Whole Chile Pepper Book, and has appeared as a spicy foods expert on numerous television programs and in major national magazines. Nancy Gerlach, a registered dietitian, is the food editor of Fiery-Foods & BBQ. She was the founding editor of Chile Pepper magazine and has written for Travel & Leisure, Eating Well, and the New York Daily News. Gerlach has developed recipes for several of DeWitt's previous books.

A great way to give spicy food a try.......2006-11-14
Some people love it spicy, and others hate it. In fact, spicy food is not just about fire and heat. There is considerable flavor in those spicy ingredients, and introducing these flavors subtley is simply too frightening to many. The best part of this book is the heat rating (1 flame to 5 flame) for each recipe. If you don't think you like spicy food, try some of the 1 flame recipes and introduce yourself to some great cuisine. As your palate becomes more adventurous , you might try some of the hotter dishes. Start with Olive and Artichoke Tapenade, then serve Medallions of Pork with Flamed Cognac and Green Peppercorn Sauce. No one will pull the fire alarm, but they'll all wonder how you learned to cook with so much flavor. This book not only provides recipes from throughout the heat spectrum, but it also draws on the full expanse of international cuisines. You'll get all kinds of ideas that you might not come across in most cookbooks. Enjoy, this book is fun!
For spicy food lovers.......2006-09-12
Do you or someone you know love spicy foods? Ginger, horseradish, wasabi, chili peppers and mustard? This is the book for you. Lots of information including history of the foods. This is especially for people who are not afraid to try something different to cook and eat.
Another nice feature is a "recipe heat scale" using flames. One flame is mild, 2 is mild to medium, 3 is medium to hot, 4 is hot. Five is extremely hot for those who like to annihilate their taste buds (I call it the "scorched tongue policy").
My only complaint is there is no photos. I don't expect photos for all the recipes but some would be good to have. It's just a nice bonus.

Book Description
"Inveterate gardener Roth dispenses advice on herb growing from start to finish, including: determining which climates, amounts of light, soil conditions and drainage are compatible with which herbs; prepping the soil and planting; using tools; controlling weeds and pests (both organically and conventionally); harvesting and storing. With 300 magazine-quality color photos and illustrations, several recipes, and instructions for making wreaths and other decorations."--Publishers Weekly.
Customer Reviews:
Nice overview.......2004-06-06
This is a nice compendium of information on the planting, propagation, harvesting, and use of a wide variety of herbs. Basic gardening is covered for situations including every style from formal gardens to containers on a balcony. Ideas and/or "recipes" are provided for some herbal teas, foods, crafts, and beauty treatments. Half the book is taken up by an "encyclopedia" of herbs, which, though hardly in depth, covers many species (not just the super familiar ones.) The whole book is appealingly laid out and full of lovely photographs. Quite enjoyable.

"Take Erma Bombeck, add the obsessions of a single mother with two boys under the age of 10, lace with a mild streak of wildness, and you have Marion Winik, as companionable a writer as a crazed parent ever found." So says the New York Times Book Review about this hilarious look at child rearing from NPR commentator Marion Winik. With the candidness of Anne Lamott's Operating Instructions, Winik never shies from sharing her "Bad Mommy" moments, for as every parent knows (and as is evidenced by her extensive instructions on conquering a mean case of head lice), the reality of parenting is not all cherubic kids sporting footie pajamas. As with her other compelling memoirs, Telling and First Comes Love, Winik lets it all hang out--sharing with readers not only the trials and joys of raising kids alone, but also debating in frank, funny terms the varied questions of being nude in front of your children, dealing with a "blended" family, and teaching kids about avoiding drugs when you've used them yourself. Parents (and anyone who has parents of their own) will appreciate the poignancy, honesty, and familiarity of this laugh-out-loud tribute to the enterprise of raising children. --Brangien Davis
Book Description
Child Magazine Best Book of the Year
"For me, parenting is like dieting. Every day, I wake up filled with resolve and good intentions, perfection in view, and every day I somehow stray from the path. The difference is with dieting, I usually make it to lunch. . . ."
With the candor and often hilarious outlook that have made her a beloved commentator on NPR, Marion Winik takes the reader on an unforgettable journey through modern parenthood, with all of its attendant anxieties and joys.
A single mother with two small boys, Winik knows exactly what she's talking about, from battles over breakfast and bedtime to the virtues of pre-packaged food and weightier issues like sex education and sibling rivalry. Part memoir and part survival guide,
The Lunch-Box Chronicles is an engaging philosophy of parenting from a staunch realist, who knows that kids and their parents both will inevitably fall far short of perfection, and that a "good enough mom" really is, in fact, good enough.
"Marion Winik proves as able a bard for her generation as Erma Bombeck was for hers. . . . Funny, warmhearted, and chock-full of moments of instant recognition." --Newsday
"[H]ilarious and wrenching, it's about being a parent, but it's also about so much more: love, survival, transcendence--and macaroni and cheese." --Anne Lamott, author of
Operating Instructions
"Take Erma Bombeck, add the obsessions of a single mother with two boys . . . and you have Marion Winik, as companionable a writer as a crazed parent ever found." --The New York Times Book Review
Customer Reviews:
Marion Winik opens eyes with this poignant, mirthful tribute to parenting........2007-04-23
This book follows Marion as she leads her sons, Hayes and Vince through the ups and downs of life. Including the death of their father. Parents should take notes on Marion's brave tactics on being upfront and honest with her children on the tougher subjects in life. She shows you the line between protecting your children for their own good and sheltering them from reality.
Whether she is teaching her kids to make coffee, navigating her family through her first relationship after the death of her husband, or throwing a birthday party. Marion Winik will make you laugh, make you think and make those crazy days with your kids feel normal. You will know that you are not alone.
If You Know Any Children ..........2002-02-15
... whether they're yours or someone's else's, this book is for you. This insightful book tells it like it is -- everything you ever wanted to know about raising children, straight from the heart. If you read this and don't shed a tear, you're missing a big piece of humanity.
Hysterically funny and true to real life........1999-10-24
Marion Winik never ceases to amaze me with her candid and heroically revealing writing. She can evoke so many emotions about diving into that great big pool of love we call 'Family'. As a nanny, I have had so many Mothers ask me, "Am I doing this right"? And, "Do you think I'm a good Mom"? I try to stay neutral and tell them that it doesn't matter what I think, it matters what THEY think. Then I reccomend Marion's book and I always get VERY positive feedback about it. If you're a Mom; past, present or future, this book will make you feel a whole lot better about all that that entails. Your life won't be complete until you read it!
