Excellent and Frequently Used Reference.......2007-10-11
I agree with what both prior reviewers have said about this book. I own approximately twenty gardening reference books and this is the only one I have found that tells you what to do with the plant after it flowers and when to prune it. My mother, who I swear has green arms as well as thumbs, also found this book very helpful and talked me into letting her take it home with her. Fortunately, I they still had it on sale so I could replace my copy!I also like that the cover is plasticized so that I can take it out in the garden with me.
The first user friendly Encyclopedia!.......2007-03-02
I own dozens of Encyclopedias and this is the only one that I find user friendly. While it's not as detailed as the giant AHS books, the information is concise, consistent, and practical. Each page is dedicated to one species and is broken down by Features, Conditions, Growing Method, Flowering, After Flowering, and At a Glance which has a useful calendar outlining the planting, sowing, dividing, and flowering times. And that's only referring to the A-Z sections of the book!
Of all the books I own, this is the one I use the most.
good, easy to understand reference.......2006-10-17
I use this book a great deal, and my only gripe is that there is no listing for common names, so you need to know the official name of something to look it up, otherwise, it's a great reference because it gives helpful tips on when to sow, dig up or let be, also lots of easy to understand info on where to plant and what size it will be. I use this book more than any other gardening book I have.

Customer Reviews:
Great overview but not enough details.......2005-03-07
I found this book quite helpful in idenitifying plants in my new yard. Since I did not have the luxury of asking the previous home owner what was planted, I have had to rely heavily on this book to tell me what I have. The down side is that while the book has beautiful photos, it does not give many details. So if you you are looking to know every little thing about a plant then this is not the book for you.
Great pictures but ........................2003-11-27
Given the fact that the publication is dated 2003, I would have thought that the book would at a minimum reference most plants in existence today. I have many plants in my garden which are yet to be found in the book...Being from the Caribbean, I thought for a moment that the word American was missing from the title however, many of the plants to which I refer are found in the USA ... in particular in Florida...strange!
The content under the heading 'Cultivation' is very general and extremely high level, not sufficient to properly guide one in growing flowers, as we all know in many instances the requirements do differ depending on the hybrid..
Great book for pictures and perhaps for persons who just need an overview of types of flowers in existence but not for a serious gardener.....lots more work needed
alot of plants.......2003-09-12
the book shows alot of plants that are not in all books

Bought it because it was pretty, kept it because it is great.......2005-06-16
This is a fantastic book, if you want concise information on a wide variety of flowers. I was familiar with a few types of flowers, but I wanted to find out what would grow well around our house, when we moved in a few years ago.
The book is divided into four sections (annuals, perennials, a short section on roses, and bulbs), with general information about each type and using them in a garden, then there is a long encyclopedia section for each type. Each flower gets a page, usually with 2 pictures (one of the flower up close, and one of the entire plant), features of the flower, best planting sites, a monthly calendar describing when to plant and maintenance through the year, how to grow, how it typically flowers, and any additional maintenance or care, if needed.
My mother-in-law is a certified Master Gardener, and she often looks through this book. We're going to buy her a copy for her birthday, this year.
Very thorough reference!!.......2002-08-08
Great comprehensive book of annuals, perennials and bulbs! Being a beginning gardener, I spent quite a bit of time deliberating on a choice for a general flower reference book. This book has proven its worth! There are general overviews of the three flowering categories, explaining how to integrate them into a well-planned garden. There are pages and pages of lavish photographs of individual varieties with info presented in a concise, reader-friendly format. Garden-store tags are often woefully incomplete, so this has been invaluable to me for getting the full scoop. I find myself looking at this book just about every day, if only to dream about the enticing flowers I'd like to plant some day.

BHG Guide to Flower Gardening.......2003-06-13
Nice looking book, good info! Nice addition to a gardening library.
Better Homes and Gardens Complete Guide to Flower Gardening.......2002-04-18
Of all the many flower gardening books I have, this one is THE BEST. It has everything you need to know in easy reference formats. Fabulous useful lists like "Long-Blooming Perennials" and "Easy Care Annuals" and "plants for wet or boggy sites" and "shade loving plants" and lists by color, shape and height are part of the first section of the book, then the last section is an encyclopedia of annuals and perennials that tells all you need to know in a short section for each plant. There is much more. I use this more than any other garden book.
IF WHAT YOU ARE LOOKING FOR ISN'T HERE, IT'S NOT IMPORTANT!.......2001-02-17
First, let me explain, my husband is the gardener, I am the book reader, so we really got together on this one. He moves the perennials and shrubs around and changes the garden plan so often that I wouldn't dare attempt to cross the garden at night without fear of running smack into a Burning Bush! The ultimate result of his long and dedicated devotion to the garden has produced some spectatular results and much can be attributed to this terrific book.
First of all, it told him everything he was doing wrong, and his response to that was, "Oh my ..., I've been working on this for five years and made every mistake in the book!" Secondly, it told him how to do it right. The book covers absolutely everything from planning, choosing the proper plants for the proper location and soil, and how to create symmetry in your garden. The photography is beautiful and the encyclopedia of garden plants is worth its weight in gold!
Three cheers for Better Homes and Gardens for giving us this "can't do without it book." Every gardener, hobbyist or professional, will find something of value here, and hopefully, you will learn where to put the Burning Bush....before it goes into the ground.
Great book for the beging and advanced gardener........1999-10-23
This book has all the information you need to keep your garden looking great. It has tips on how to plan your garden, buy your plants, do the actual planting, and maintain your garden. And as all Better Homes and Gardens books, everything is presented in an easy to read and reference format with great how to pictures. The best part of the book is the plant encyclopedia. The encylopedia is a fairly complete listing of all annuals, perennials, bulbs, shrubs, grasses, and trees with pictures, common names, botanical names, breif descriptions, and planting conditions. A must have reference for every gardener and budding gardener.
Best gardening guide I have seen for the beginning gardener!.......1999-02-01
The "Better Homes And Gardens Complete Guide To Flower Gardening" is the most comprehensive guide I have come across for the novice or experienced gardener. The book is organized so that you can fully understand the different types of flowers needed for the type of soil, light, and moisture conditions in your yard. It explains in detail the different styles of gardens, so that you may design your garden according to the many landscape examples provided in the book, or use the knowledge learned from the book to design your own. My favorite section of the book is the organized catalog of the different types of flowers and grasses, detailing their growth patterns and environmental needs, as well as a color picture of each plant. Without this book my yard would still be a vast wasteland of crabgrass and wild violets and clover! Needless to say, I LOVE THIS BOOK! Now when I walk out my door, I can stop and smell the roses!

Good information and guidance for the do it yourselfer.......2000-04-26
I brought this book and really after reading it I was impress with the information. It gave me useful information especially as a person who know nothing about landscaping but knew what I wanted my home to look like. This book gave me detail information on how to begin, how to plan, how to lay my ideas out on paper and then on the ground. So buy it is great! The book was refreshing in its approach to the topic it was small enough to not scare me yet big enough to hold all the key points. This book is one of the most useful on the market that I've read and belive me I've read my share and besides the good information they did not try to sell me a design just straight useful information.

Book Description
Twinspiration combines guidebook how-to with personal diary to lead mothers through pregnancy and the first year of their twins' lives. This carefully laid out book provides an array of information from the basics to the questions you are too afraid to ask with humor and honesty. This is the must have all in one resource for any couple that is expecting twins.
Customer Reviews:
The book I've been searching for!.......2007-08-09
Cheryl opens the door into her life with twins and gives the insights and practical advice I've been wanting as I prepare for my own. Most of the book focuses on what happens once you take them home from the hospital. She's evenhanded in her approach, but never fails to offer her personal take on issues. I found myself agreeing with her often and feeling empowered to make a beautiful life with twins. They are a double blessing, not double trouble!
A Refreshing Look at Pregnancy and Early Life with Twins.......2007-08-08
I just finished Twinspiration, and I wholeheartedly recommend it. The author has a wonderful way of weaving lots of great information on pregnancy and life with young multiples while entertaining you with her own personal experience. (she has an excellent sense of humor!) I particularly liked her play-by-play account of going into labor! It was a page-turner!
Lage is very candid and forthcoming with intimate details about her own pregnancy, delivery and the first year with her boy-girl twins but never preachy. She talks to you, not at you. The book is not only informative but fun to read. And after reading so many books on a multiple pregnancy written by doctors, this one is a refreshing change.
one of the best books I have read so far.......2007-07-19
GREAT BOOK!!!!!!! I would recomend this book to anyone who is expecting twins or more!!!!! SOOOOOOO informative and funny to top it off. A MUST HAVE
Great for new parents AND those expecting twins for the first time.......2007-05-23
I'm the mother of a toddler boy and am expecting twin boys. So I was looking for a reference book specific to twins to expand my knowledge. This has really helped a lot in that regard. Sure, I skimmed the first few chapters about what to bring to the hospital and what to expect at your doctor's office, etc. But the chapters on what you need doubles of and don't and Cheryl's birth experience have been very valuable. I definitely recommend this book.
Gave me hope and good advice!.......2007-05-20
I'm a first time mom expecting twins and this book was so informational. I'll read it again the closer I get to delivering and I'm sure I'll read it yet again once my twins are here. Practical advice and detailed examples for anyone expecting twins!
I would read it at night before bed and I'd giggle from the stories. My husband was actually entertained just watching me read it.
