This book was purchased to go along with a class I took by the author. The infomation was very helpful and allowed me to begin creating my first art quilt. Joyce takes you step by step and simplifies the process. The book is very easy to understand. I recommend this book to anyone that has a desire to try their hands at creating an art quilt.

Though this book has lovely quilts, it is very light on technique. It is more a showcase for the artists quilts. I purchased the book hoping for concise clear instructions and possibly some patterns to get started; this book has no patterns and is really light on instruction. If you enjoy looking at beautiful quilts only, then you will enjoy this book. If you are looking for something with a lot of technical info, keep looking, this is not the book for you.

NEW FUN!!!.......2004-05-21

This book explores a whole variety of ways to have fun, fun, FUN with Landscape Quilting. The directions are well written, the photos clear and understandable, and the overall context invites one to get to the fabric stash and jump right in. Okay, okay, so these quilts won't wind up on your bed. But they are a wonderful example of how to decorate your home and walls!

I got a few unexpected bonus' with this book. It has a pattern to make a vest with a landscape as well as several patterns. The work is explained and the color pictures were a help in understanding the methods outlined in the book. Good graphics as well as examples are in the book.

great wearable art ideas.......2001-07-29

My book arrived just 2 days ago and I stayed up late scouring it from cover to cover (had to wait until the kids were in bed for quiet time). I'm not much into quilting, but love creating unique and unusual things, especially wearable art. This book is perfect. If you are a quilter you'll love the ideas to take your hobby to the next level. If you are more of a sewer, you'll be impressed by the detailed (and simple)instructions that make this form of quilting quick, easy and intriguing. To top it off, the book comes with 4 of the authors very own landscape quilt patterns plus another pattern for turning a lanscape quilt into a vest. The patterns alone are worth the cost of the book.

I ran out today and purchased fabrics to make a woodland scene and can't wait to get started. I also happen to be lucky enough to have a top of the line sewing and embroidery machine, so I can use it to further embellish my landscape quilt. But to be honest, with all the great ideas, techniques, thread and fabric suggestions the author has given, you do not need one of these fancy machines to make a work of art. This is a neat, neat book!

Inspiring- and yet simple.......2007-03-18

I watched the Sewing With Nancy show that goes with this book. I was hooked and bought the book shortly after. Amazing. Inspiring. Instructional. I definately recommend this book to those who want to create art. And you don't have to know how to draw, or paint and yet you can be artistic with fabric. It takes minimal sewing skills- so don't let that intimidate you. This book falls right in line with Nancy Zieman's normal simple and understandable teaching steps. She takes you from step one all the way through to a finished masterpiece.

I was not a good at sewing when I came across this book. Having read the very easy instructions, I could not believe the beautiful landscape quilts I created, so happy in fact, I e-mailed the authors to thank them for writing this book. It opened a new creative outlet for me, and it will for anyone else with even the most basic sewing skills. In fact, one great quilt artist who creates unbel;ievably beaautiful work, said she has three stitiches she uses--forward, backwards and zig zag. So with basic skills and a basic machine, one can go to whatever heights of creativity they wish. Highly recommend this book as a first landscape quilting guide.

I love this book. The technique in fun and easy. Free form cutting and glueing makes this a great way to express your creativity and get great results. I am new to quilting and wanted to do something different. I am just finishing my second piece and can't believe the results! Easy directions to follow and great pictures. You will love this book!

Addiction is possible.......2006-02-08

The was the first landscape book I ever owned and is still by far the most used book in my library for landscape quilting projects. Though it expects that your familiar with basic sewing machine operation, unless you've done a little free-motion sewing working on your creations will take some time in the beginning.

Few to none of the projects can actually be copied as you see them... the fabrics used cannot be found to purchase... creative substitution or fabric painting to acheive looks will be needed.. and all the projects are huge... I love the 6' or bigger wall hanging aspect... however it takes an enormous amount of fabric layered and overlayered to acheive the depth and detailing that can be found in the work of these two ladies.

It is well worth the price for anyone thinking of creating any size true to life landscape project, the photos are spectacular...and the hints and suggestions on how to give 3D depth to a piece can't be easier to understand or follow.

I highly recommend this speciality type of quilting book... it doesn't require any set patterns or shapes and since each piece you create is a one of a kind, there can be no errors except for the eye of the artist saying that it exists.

I love this book, the wonderful quilts that were created and the very simple techniques used to achieve such dramatic results.

I was truly inspired by the landscape quilts in this book...the depth that was shown on how to make a forest look up close or distant...

the simple differences that give each quilt its unique perspective.

If you are interested in landscape quilts i found this book to be one of the best and most inspirational yet.

The word "Essential" says it all in terms of the usefulness of this book. This is a must have for the person that wants to put the right foot forward in understanding and developing a personal Yoga practice, or for the individual that hopes to gain a better historical understanding of this ancient practice. In a concise fashion the reader will acquire the tools to develop an individual practice. The reader will also find answers in identifying an instructor and style of Yoga that is right for them. Clear photographs and detailed instructions round out this most excellent and "Essential" resource.

This book is a competent introduction to yoga. Contrary to one reviewer, the section on yoga philosophy is short and to the point.

The section on yoga teachers and styles can be very useful in helping to decide what yoga style you might wish to explore.

The section (the bulk of the book) on yoga postures is adequate but unexceptional. The descriptions are ok, but the photos are small and not especially clear. No variations are shown for advanced practicioners or for those with limited flexibility.

There is a brief description of yoga props, but no information on how to incorporate them into your practice.

The section on sample yoga routines is mediocre.

This book is best as an inexpensive supplement to a good yoga class or video tape. The best beginners yoga book I've seen is "Yoga for Beginners" by Mark Ansari and Liz Lark.

The book covers the very basics of yoga. It is too long on history and people in the yoga movement, which is ok for those who want that stuff. I went away wanting much more from the book. It did not deliver what I had expected.

A clearly written book about yoga philosophy and practice........1999-03-30

This title is a handy resource book for practicing yoga, although the spine design makes it difficult to keep flat on the floor near your yoga mat. However, the posture photos and descriptions are easy to follow. The history and philosophy of yoga are written very accessibly, as are the approaches to meditation. I enjoy this book as a yoga student of 8 years, and am glad a yoga teacher recommended it. I keep signing it out at my library, but it's so handy and succinct I want to give it a permanent place on my bookshelf.

Best health journal to date.......2007-07-18

I purchased this for my son when he was born after looking at several others. This is by far the most comprehensive, compact, and durable journal. It is very well laid out. I will be purchasing additional copies for myself, husband, and next child.
I was surprised by the review that it was too in depth. Can a health history be too in depth? As a health care provider it would be wonderful to have patients who are familiar with their medical history, know what medications they are taking, and why they are taking the medication.
I have had to access my own childhood vaccination records several times when travelling and I would have appreciated such a well organized record. The thorough childhood history does indeed include 56 pages. The adult and long term health record portion is 150 pages. In addition there is a health provider address book.
To summarize - the best health journal to date.

Too In-Depth for Casual Use.......2006-01-29

I'm sure this book would be good for some, but it was too in-depth for me. The adult section doesn't even start until page 57. I wanted to use this for myself, but I'm not going to record everything from my childhood, so the first half of the book would be wasted. Then it asks for so much detailed information about all sorts of tests. Maybe if you have a history of health problems, you'd want to record all of this. But for a healthy adult, it doesn't seem necessary. In fact, when I go to the doctor, they don't even tell me what my blood pressure was, etc. - because it's not an issue. So if you're simply looking for a book to record basic things like immunizations & notes from appointments, this will probably be too much for you. It is a very nice hard back book though. And I'm sure it's useful to some.

The BEST gift!.......2005-11-05

I found THE LIFETIME HEALTH JOURNAL to be extremely useful and something needed by everyone to keep track of all their medical information in one convenient, user-friendly place. I give it as a baby gift and graduation gift, and to friends who have health problems they need to manage. I use my own copy constantly!

It's about time...........2003-05-07

It's about time someone published a book that makes it possible for me to keep track of my health records. I have moved around a lot in my life and my doctors and health care records are in four different states. I have had surgery six times plus regular check-ups for sixty years. I have finally found a way to keep track of all these records. Now I take my records with me and it has simplified the over-all view of my health, not only for my doctors but for myself.

This is the best medical record book I've ever had. You need this. I bought two at the dollar store when they were closing them out and I wish I'd bought more for gifts. It's thorough, informative, and overall a great place to tuck shot records, etc. for your child's next appt.

From the supplier: The average number of drinks consumed each drinking day over the course of a lifetime seems to show the biggest correlation with an elevation of systolic blood pressure. However, this conclusion from a study of 84 people was only true in men. In women, the total lifetime duration of drinking elevated diastolic pressure only. These measures gave as accurate a correlation as one that expressed alcohol intake as a percentage of body water.

From the author: Objective: The factor structure of alcohol dependence was investigated using exploratory factor analysis, specifically contrasting models of alcohol dependence based on lifetime symptom endorsement to models based on current (i.e., past-year) symptom endorsement. Method: Data from the 1989 National Longitudinal Survey of Youth were analyzed. DSM-IV alcohol dependence was assessed in this large community sample of current drinkers and lifetime drinkers, representative of both men and women, and ranging in age from 24 to 32. Sixteen items assessing the seven criteria of DSM-IV alcohol dependence were employed. Results: A single-factor model accounted for most of the observed relationships. However, evidence of additional dimensions, characterized by tolerance and impaired control symptoms, was also identified. Conclusions: Our findings do not support the historical tendency of distinguishing physiological (as indicated by tolerance or withdrawal symptoms) from nonphysiological dependence. Most importantly, factor solutions derived from items based on past-year symptom endorsement were consistent with those derived from items based on lifetime symptom endorsement in samples of both current drinkers and lifetime drinkers.

Endogenous mortality is introduced in a two-period overlapping generations model: probability of surviving from the first period to the next depends upon health capital that is augmented through public investment. High mortality societies do not grow fast since shorter lifespans discourage savings; development traps are possible. Productivity differences across nations result in persistent differences in capital-output ratios and relatively larger gaps in income and mortality. High mortality also reduces returns on education, where risks are undiversifiable. From the supplier: A framework for developing a fitness unit, which aims to provide students with the needed cognitive and affective skills for determining their own fitness levels, is given.
