Study & you will quickly see that Feathers are THE MOST common quilting motif, next to the grid-line quilting. If you don't agree, then know that they are certainly up in the top 5! Feathers are so versatile and beautiful, formed in the image of bird plumage or if you will, in the shape of a teardrop - both of which are found throughout the entire history of quilting.
Feathers are used for filling space, in your blocks, setting triangles or sashings. You can quilt them in borders-long straight strips, make them undulate & twist, round or oval, place a half, quarter or heart shaped feather motif in your block, in a corner or just draw one on the label you sew onto the back of your quilt for a beautiful continuation of the effect.
No matter where or how you twist, turn, stretch or shrink your feather motifs, once you have perfected this teardrop shape, the possibilites are endless. Try it-you won't be disappointed!

Build Your Japanese Garden and spent your free time golfing.......2007-06-12

I bought serveral books about creating Japanese gardens. This book by far the best one that I had. I built a Japanese style Rock Garden so I don't have to mow my lawn. My back yard is built based on some of the pictures and tips I read from this book. The fun part is that you put in your hard work and built the garden you wanted which pays off when your guests give you thumb up. I spent about $5000 on the materials and hours of my own labor on the project. Now I can spent my weekend golfing instead of mowing my lawn. Ouch! My back still hurting from all the hardwork.

Good for beginners.......2007-04-04

The book is easy to read and explains the whole concept of Japanese gardening. I learned with it and will be using it to plan my Japanese garden. Very pleased customer!

I've always wanted to have a Japanese Garden but never got around to doing it. I picked up this book at the library and, WOW, it has really inspired me! Not only am I now drafting up plans to turn a corner of my yard into a Japanese Garden but I showed it to a neighbor and he's thinking of making his backyard into something like the courtyard garden on page 20. I'll probably get a library of books on Japanese Gardening but this book will be the first one I'll buy.

I got this book from the library and was pleasantly surprised at the details and useful, practical advice on conceiving and executing a japanese garden. The book contains detailed instructions on how to lay out, build, select plans for, and maintain a Japanese-inspired garden. It talks about rocks, rock gardening, ponds, water plants and fish, paths, stepping stones, gates, and plants and plant selections. I found it really helpful in getting ideas to give to our landscape architect. I would recommend this book for anyone that is going to actually build (rather than just enjoy looking at pictures of) a japanese garden.

This book is one of the best I ever buy about gardening and landscaping. The pictures alone worth the price.
They gives details to build your garden, makes pounds and falls and it seems so easy that I am starting my own right now.

They also list the kind of trees and plants to uses.

I just bought this book a few days ago and it's already dog-eared! I am so thrilled! The format is supberb, the information is right on and it's detailed but not overwhelming or overly technical. Great photos, too!

I can't say enough about this book. I HIGHLY recommend it to anyone even if you don't have a deck, patio or balcony! The info can work for backyards, front yards, whatever!!! Go get it! It's worth the [money].

A bit disappointing.......2002-10-18

I should have known not to order a book that lacks the 'look inside' feature, but Ortho books are usually very good. This book was disappointing (to me, at least) for the following reasons: too basic, not enough information, and it does NOT include photograghs of the finished landscapes. Mostly I just do not like the illustrations--fuzzy chalk drawings that are hard on the eyes and lack definition. Selected ideas for building fences, pergolas, etc. consist of simple line drawings and no detailed instructions. Sorry Ortho, I've seen better.

Ortho puts all the basic outlines in this book for us to find. How to get stared on drawing out your plans to scale. They explain how to use wind directions in your favor, and use existing landmarks and views to help the design process. With seven different specific property scenarios, your sure to find one similar to yours. I did, (Site Two: Older Home; Midtown Lot) and this book has helped me to draw a basic scetch of what I want my property to become.

An excellent home resource for digestive disorders.......2004-07-31

This book clearly lays out disorders of the digestive tract, and even addresses personal issues with embarrassment, intimacy, and other non-medical impacts of these disorders. I liked the anatomy section in the beginning which laid a foundation for understanding and imparted new respect for digestion. I actually found myself wanting to eat better and somewhat dismayed at the stress bad food & drink habits have on my body! I also liked that it offered medical, wholistic, herbal, and even aromatherapy ideas for treatment. I read the whole book in one sitting the day after I got it. While my diagnosis in quite minor, I feel this book gave me an overview of where it could lead if untreated, and lots of practical advise on how to deal with the situation and improve my lifestyle. I guess my only regret is not paying for expedited shipping so that I could have read it sooner!

About a year ago I had very uncomfortable gastro-intestinal issues. Specialists performed a series of horrifying tests and and after four months had no diagnosis. Taking matters into my own hands, I picked up and read "The good gut guide" and begrudgingly changed my diet and lifestyle. I am pleased to report that my guts are good. Thank you for the well written and user friendly guide book.

An incredible collection of what can go wrong with your gut. The Good Gut Guide provides answers and direction for the unknowing parent, friend or neighbor that has been battling just about any type of intestinal problem you can imagine. Zinser uses humor to break through the embarrassment we all generally feel when talking about constipation, gas or other sensitive issues like these. The book is reader friendly, educational and still amazingly detailed. My nine-year-old daughter suffers from chronic constipation. The Guide provided me with invaluable insight for treatments that had not previously been explored by top physicians over the past five-years. I applaud Zinser for writing such a classy book! When word gets out about "The Guide's" usefulness, I believe that millions of people may very well be healed in the years ahead. The Good Gut Guide is the best tool you can have when you aren't sure why your stomach hurts. Take it with you to your next doctor's visit, he or she may just learn a thing or two. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK.
