Customer Reviews:
Outstanding alphabet book!.......2002-05-20
I bought this book because my class is studying oceans. I thought the book might be dull but I needed something and didn't find much else. I had already covered whates, dolphins and sharks. So anyway I read it before bringing the book to school and found it entertaining and amusing. The book is not afraid to be funny. It really lightened up the subject and I can't wait to read it to my students. Thanks Jerry!
A must-have if you regularly go to any aquarium........1998-01-01
We had to buy a second copy (a hardcover) because our sons loved the first, paperback, version to death. Taught my kids not only the alphabet but the names of all the fish. I is for Indigo Hamlet was one of my son's first sentences! My four-year-old can i.d. all these fish at the San Diego aquarium (and wants us to find the others at another aquarium). Never boring for adults, unlike some alphabet books.

Product Description
This is a NAVAL POSTGRADUATE SCHOOL MONTEREY CA report procured by the Pentagon and made available for public release. It has been reproduced in the best form available to the Pentagon. It is not spiral-bound, but rather assembled with Velobinding in a soft, white linen cover. The Storming Media report number is A755104. The abstract provided by the Pentagon follows: Operational ability to forecast tropical cyclone motion is much better than the ability to forecast intensity change. Several recent works have studied the mechanisms that bring about the symmetrization of various types of asymmetries in tropical cyclones. This study was conducted to add to that knowledge by examining the transfers of kinetic energy between scales and how those energy transfers alter the wind structure of the cyclone. Adding to the understanding of how this process can alter winds is a step toward increasing ability to forecast these changes. A non-divergent barotropic spectral model was used to integrate annular bands of enhanced potential vorticity, simulating hurricane eyes, with varying degrees of offset from the center of the vortex. Offset monopoles of vorticity, simulating asymmetric convection in tropical storms, were also integrated. As discovered by previous researchers, these unstable eyes broke down into a series of mesovortices, which merged and eventually relaxed to monopolar or tripolar final states. The offset monopoles formed spiral bands and became symmetric as well. Kinetic energy was transferred from the mean flow to the asymmetries as mesovortices formed and then transferred back to the mean flow as symmetrization occurred. These energy transfers occurred very quickly.

Wild, Wild World of Animals 2.......2007-09-03
Very beautiful photos in a lovely hardback book. Wonderful for young and old alike. Several editions in this series like Wild Herds, Elephants and Land Giants, Life in Zoos and Preserves, and More.
Book Description
This remarkable series of practical, step-by-step guides brings together the most comprehensive collection ever published of Celtic designs and decorations and provides an invaluable source of inspiration for artists, designers and craftspeople of all kinds. Both freehand and canonical geometric methods are explained and detailed instructions are given on drawing and decorating letters in an authentic Celtic style, as well as on creating your own illuminated manuscript pages.
Customer Reviews:
Very interesting.......2006-03-20
Getting to know how this art was born, I strongly recommend to those who appreciate Celtic Art
Knotwork.......2006-03-14
I have not yet drawn knots from this book, but I have worked through Celtic Knots-Mastering the Traditional Pattern which I recommend at a first book for beginners like myself. However, I had read this book and can't wait to start drawing its knots.
If you're only buying one.......2006-01-19
If you're only buying one of Meehan's books, get this one. It's earned its cost 100 times over in helping me design my own knotwork patterns. The history is interesting on the first read; I'm not working on (nearly) priceless vellum so I can afford rough drafts on scrap paper and don't follow the formal construction methods. But there's plenty of material to serve as a starting point.
The collection of Trinity knots in the back is fabulous--try them in balloon art for a change of scale.
The Good the Bad and the Ugly.......2006-01-03
This book will show you how to make Celtic knots and it does contain detailed diagrams, however what this book shows you in 20 pages can be easily shown in just a couple of diagrams while at other times the book shows you in just a couple of diagrams what it should have shown you in 20 pages...So there is alot to be desired.
"What a tangled web we weave".......2002-11-16
Several years ago I was having a guitar made and wanted to use a Celtic theme for some of the inlay work. As usual, I discovered that this was a more complicated task than I had originally thought. Not all places on a guitar are equal, and trying to find a set of ideas that would work as a whole is almost as challenging as designing an illuminated manuscript page.
I my frantic search through the catalogs for books that provided more than pretty pictures, I stumbled across several volumes by Aidan Meehan, including this one on knotwork. Meehan's focus is as much on design as it is on imitation, which was perfect for what I was trying to do. The book is done in clean legible calligraphy with countless illustrations of both technique and results, making it a bit of an artwork itself.
Whether 'secret' or not, Meehan presents knots, their creation, and use in fine and methodical detail. He works through some important knots, then turns to panel design, plaitwork and spiral knots. Probably much more than I will ever need, but making this a valuable resource for the artist and the historian.
Customer Reviews:
pure pleasure.......2006-06-03
I brought a copy of this book a few years ago and have enjoyed many hours of quiet contemplation. I am transported to the Vieux Carre in an instant. Layers upon layers of visual details are revealed to you. The secrets of this hidden world are yours to uncover over and over again.
This is a magical book that needs to be re-issued.......1999-09-21
I bought this book some years ago and use it as a vacation-in-an-easychair escape to New Orleans. It is a treasure, written by a New Orleans insider who had access to the most wonderful gardens. I hope that it will be reprinted soon, so that I can buy it and send it to a dear friend I was telling about it.
I should have goten it when I could have........1997-06-13
I was in New Orleans recently and fell in love with the courtyard gardens that were hidden away
beyond thick stone and brick walls. You could see these beautiful green, quiet oasis in contrast to
the loud and sometimes bawdiness of the streets
of the French Quarter, behind wrought iron fences,
tucked away, for just a few to see and enjoy.
I went to several bookstores in New Orleans,
asking if there was a book on courtyard gardens
of the French Quarter. I finally found one, The
Secret Garden of the Vieux Carre. It was a beautiful book, with photographs that depicted the
character of the gardens in a way that words could
not.
It was large and heavy and I did not have any room in my bags for another purchase. I thought,
no problem, when I return home to California, I
will find the book or order it.
It is out of print! This could be worth a
return trip to New Orleans in the very near future.
I highly recommended this book.

Customer Reviews:
not wild about this one.......2004-05-12
I purchased several books when I learned that I was pregnant. This book seemed to have comprehensive information, as well as a way to efficiently organize appointments, etc. However, the organizer is not intuitive to complete -- you begin numbering on the day of your LMP, but then the organizer follows a calender year format, so it is not clear how to number the days. Also, there is no space to enter the dates/days of the week. I found myself crossing out the dates several times, which created a mess. The book has several errors, as well -- e.g., states that both you and your mate each contribute 46 chromosomes (impossible!), then describes emotional changes secondary to hormones as "emotional liability" (the correct term is "emotional lability"). This misinformation caused me to doubt the correctness of the entire book! Finally, while the book begins on the date of your LMP, it provides information regarding embryological development on a weekly basis, starting with the date of fertilization. As a result, the "monthly" information is actually "off" by 2 weeks! On the positive side, there are some good questions to ask providers, etc -- but this information is easily obtained (free) online.
OK if You Want A Lot of Information.......2002-05-07
I was dissapointed with this organizer when I received it. I was looking for more of a journal/ organizer type of book than an informational book. This would have been a good gift for my first pregnancy but I wanted more space this time around to record doctors appointments, tests, ultrasounds, etc... This book just doesn't have it.Wish I had stuck with the one I used for the first baby, What to Expect When You Are Expecting Pregnancy organizer. A lot more room to record your own info.
I would give this as a gift to a first time mom though.
A "must have" if you are pregnant!.......2000-12-08
I am newly pregnant and this organizer has been wonderful for me. It has a page every month to show your body's growth throughout the nine months. There is also a daily space for reminders or to journal your thoughts, emotions, or symptoms.
The organizer also includes checkoff lists for things such as buying maternity clothes (no matter what season you are pregnant), buying things for the nursery, or questions to go over with your doctor, hospital and daycare provider.
It truly is a "must have" if this is your first pregnancy or your fifth!
