5 out of 5 stars This Book Flushed out Memories of the Love of My Lab.......2006-02-07

I had this book for sometime, it was a gift. I didn't really know what a great book I had until I actually read it. Looking at the pictures was great, until I lost my own Chocolate Lab, "Roxie". The memories she and I made, were flushed out as I read the happiness of other inspired Lab Lovers. I though no one else can love a dog as much as I loved mine. There are so many people blessed with Labs that don't realize what a gift a Lab is. They are the best all around dog, that I fell in love with at the age of 18 or so. Now 33 I'm searching for another Lab puppy to love again. This book allowed me to see the other stories, people shared and flushed stories from my own heart that had been forgotten as time has a way of covering the memories that are made in the life of a Lab, if only for a short while I have the memories of my Lab and others, uncovered.

5 out of 5 stars Another Wonderful Book On The Wonders Of Labs!.......2004-01-09

Here is another attractive entry by naturalist author Todd Berger, one that takes a truly loving look at America's singular and by far most popular wonder dog, the Labrador Retriever. As Berger points out so well, there are few other animals who draw such love from humans as a dog, and surely the Lab is the most loveable of the breeds. Here he presents the Labrador Retriever in all its wonder and does a yeoman service to the rest of us by enumerating all of the superb qualities the dog has to offer potential human enthusiasts. They are by reputation excellent working dogs, both as field dogs and as guide dogs for the disabled. They are also incredibly loyal, and the news services are often filled with wonderful and heartwarming stories of Labs crawling out on the ice to save their masters, often at considerable danger to themselves. Nonetheless, they stand by our sides.

Therefore, this book, "The Love Of Labs', is the ultimate tribute to the breed, and is chock-full with stories and photos that actively serve to substantiate what might otherwise seem as idle boasts and overethusiastic praise. In fact, for anyone who spends any time around Labs, like me, it is hard nto to use superlatives when describing them. More than one of the stories herein will bring a smile to your face, a tear to your eye, and the idea in your noggin perhaps it is time to consider getting one of these incredible creatures into you rlife, and that of your extended family. they boost the energy level in any room they enter, are incredible chick-magnets, and have been shown to reduce high blood pressure and dissipate depression through their mere presence. This is a wonderful book about what I believe to be the world's most nearly perfect living creature, the Labrador Retriever! Enjoy!

4 out of 5 stars Good story book, beautiful photos.......2000-10-18

This is a story book. The stories narrated in the book show the really nice characteristics of this excellent dogs. The photographs are beautiful. It's a nice tribute to the Labrador. Only downside is that all, and I do mean all, the stories are hunting stories. I believe these dogs have much more to say in other aspects of life. For all of you who hunt with a Lab, you will really love this book. Those of you who don't hunt but are really fond to this breed, you will like it very much, myself included. For those of you looking for information on the breed, not recomended.

5 out of 5 stars A lab is pure love.......2000-09-13

I have only had the priviledge of owning our adopted black lab, Abbott (rescued by Southern California Labrador Retriever Rescue) for about 4 months. I can not tell you how incredible these dogs are!! The family loyalty is palpable. The intense devotion these dogs display to their family is remarkable. The absolute joy this dog has brought to us is a gift that is compounded daily. How can one really describe a lab's love for their family? (and the family for them) I was so happy to see a book that comes close to trying to express this.

Quite simply, the stories and pictures are beautiful. Share this book with anyone that loves these dogs for it is a pure delight just to turn the pages and look at the pictures! We feel so lucky to live with the real thing!

5 out of 5 stars Quilter's Delight!.......2007-09-17

I loved my purchase from Amazon of the Earlene Fowler Quilt pattern book. IT came speedily and was in absolutely perfect condition. Couldn't be better! Thank you so much. Always happy with amazon quality stuff!

5 out of 5 stars Fowler's Books are the Best.......2007-08-13

I thoroughly enjoyed the combination of quilt patterns and fiction stories of the characters of one of my favorite series. Fowler has an enormous talent! This was truly a fun book, especially for us quilters.

4 out of 5 stars Great book!.......2007-03-15

The patterns are well done and simple enough for a beginner. I love all the Benni Harper mysteries and having the photos and author insight in this book was the real reason I bought it. I have been quilting for almost 20 years though-so the quilts are always the stars for me!

5 out of 5 stars Great quilt patterns!.......2006-04-03

Though I'm not familiar with Benni Harper books, the quilt patterns themselves are a stand-alone reason for quilters to get this book.

The finished quilts range in size from baby or lap quilt size (39" x 39") to the largest, at 74" x 88". There are many styles in the book, including country/country-western (She Shall Overcome, Senor Azure, It's Never too Late to Be a Cowgirl, Kansas Troubles, Final Roundup); vintage-look (Path in the Wilderness, Best Friends in Spite Of, A Mother's Love, Family Chain); modern (Coming Storms); and classic (With this Ring, Big Bear Honeymoon). My favorite, the Path in the Wilderness quilt, looks cute when done in '30s repro prints, and the original that it is based on can be viewed on author Fowler's official website. Quilt designer Margrit Hall mixes traditional quilt patterns with the non-traditional. The one thing that would have improved the book, in my opinion, would have been for the traditional quilt designs they were based upon to be discussed in more historical detail, perhaps in side bars.

As a beginner, I want to say to other beginners: Don't be intimidated by the quilt designs in this book, even though they look complex. Because many of the quilts are small, you'll have a great-looking quilt in no time--the smaller ones are great first projects for future quilters!

4 out of 5 stars Well written patterns.......2005-12-14

Easy to follow instructions make this a great book! Being a huge fan of the series, I especially enjoyed reading the extra inserts to the stories.

    Book Description

Bananas and plantains are major fruit crops in the tropics and subtropics and make a vital contribution to the economies of a number of countries. They are very important in the nutrition of local populations as well as tradeable commodities with large markets throughout the developed world. This book provides an accessible review of the scientific principles of banana production and relates these to field practices. Although the focus is on commercial cavendish banana production, plantains are also discussed where possible. The author also makes interesting comparisons between commercial banana production in the tropics and in the subtropics, where different climates necessitate different management. Overall, the book provides a concise but broad textbook, suitable for students and non-specialist research workers and professionals in horticulture, agronomy and food science.

    3 out of 5 stars Gift.......2007-01-21

This was a gift for someone who had a small grove of various bananas in Florida. It was suggested as necessary by a grower in another part of the state, so I suppose it contains vital information. I do not kow haw many stars to give it.

    5 out of 5 stars Outstanding.......2002-12-17

If your looking for a book on growing bananas, this is the only book you will need to buy. It covers everything from history to propagation. This is the third book on bananas that I have purchased and the only one I need.

      Product Description

On the demand side, exporters and strategic planners focusing on fresh or dried bananas and plantains in Austria face a number of questions. Which countries are supplying fresh or dried bananas and plantains to Austria? How important is Austria compared to others in terms of the entire global and regional market? How much do the imports of fresh or dried bananas and plantains vary from one country of origin to another in Austria? On the supply side, Austria also exports fresh or dried bananas and plantains. Which countries receive the most exports from Austria? How are these exports concentrated across buyers? What is the value of these exports and which countries are the largest buyers? This report was created for strategic planners, international marketing executives and import/export managers who are concerned with the market for fresh or dried bananas and plantains in Austria. With the globalization of this market, managers can no longer be contented with a local view. Nor can managers be contented with out-of-date statistics which appear several years after the fact. I have developed a methodology, based on macroeconomic and trade models, to estimate the market for fresh or dried bananas and plantains for those countries serving Austria via exports, or supplying from Austria via imports. It does so for the current year based on a variety of key historical indicators and econometric models. In what follows, Chapter 2 begins by summarizing where Austria fits into the world market for imported and exported fresh or dried bananas and plantains. The total level of imports and exports on a worldwide basis, and those for Austria in particular, is estimated using a model which aggregates across over 150 key country markets and projects these to the current year. From there, each country represents a percent of the world market. This market is served from a number of competitive countries of origin. Based on both demand- and supply-side dynamics, market shares by country of origin are then calculated across each country market destination. These shares lead to a volume of import and export values for each country and are aggregated to regional and world totals. In doing so, we are able to obtain maximum likelihood estimates of both the value of each market and the share that Austria is likely to receive this year. From these figures, rankings are calculated to allow managers to prioritize Austria compared to other major country markets. In this way, all the figures provided in this report are forecasts that can be combined with internal information sources for strategic planning purposes.

                  Product Description

On the demand side, exporters and strategic planners focusing on fresh or dried bananas and plantains in Ireland face a number of questions. Which countries are supplying fresh or dried bananas and plantains to Ireland? How important is Ireland compared to others in terms of the entire global and regional market? How much do the imports of fresh or dried bananas and plantains vary from one country of origin to another in Ireland? On the supply side, Ireland also exports fresh or dried bananas and plantains. Which countries receive the most exports from Ireland? How are these exports concentrated across buyers? What is the value of these exports and which countries are the largest buyers? This report was created for strategic planners, international marketing executives and import/export managers who are concerned with the market for fresh or dried bananas and plantains in Ireland. With the globalization of this market, managers can no longer be contented with a local view. Nor can managers be contented with out-of-date statistics which appear several years after the fact. I have developed a methodology, based on macroeconomic and trade models, to estimate the market for fresh or dried bananas and plantains for those countries serving Ireland via exports, or supplying from Ireland via imports. It does so for the current year based on a variety of key historical indicators and econometric models. In what follows, Chapter 2 begins by summarizing where Ireland fits into the world market for imported and exported fresh or dried bananas and plantains. The total level of imports and exports on a worldwide basis, and those for Ireland in particular, is estimated using a model which aggregates across over 150 key country markets and projects these to the current year. In doing so, we are able to obtain maximum likelihood estimates of both the value of each market and the share that Ireland is likely to receive this year. From these figures, rankings are calculated to allow managers to prioritize Ireland compared to other major country markets. In this way, all the figures provided in this report are forecasts that can be combined with internal information sources for strategic planning purposes.

                      Book Description

Short, funny, and honest…like your kids.

A breath of fresh air in the parenting world, "14 Hours `Til Bedtime" illuminates the pressure cooker lives of America's young mothers. With comedic focus on the joys and the blunders of raising a family, Jen Singer explores what it really takes to be a stay-at-home mom: Patience…stamina…and a genuine appreciation for greeting cards made out of Froot Loops.

"14 Hours `Til Bedtime" is for any mother who has managed to do the Hokey-Pokey with a toddler while nursing the baby at the same time. Author Jen Singer is the sure-and-steady voice for every on-the-go mom who dreams of stringing together ten minutes so she can shave both legs on the same day.

5 out of 5 stars This book will make you laugh out loud!.......2007-05-29

14 Hours'til bedtime was so much fun to read. I am a mom of five year-old twins, and I know all about long and sometimes chaotic days with the kid's (and so does Jen Singer!) She has a great sense of humor with her writing that I think most any mom can relate too!

                      5 out of 5 stars laughs for a mom.......2007-05-21

My daughter thought this was an amusing and true to form book. She advised me to get it for my step daughter since she thought she too would enjoy reading this book.

3 out of 5 stars Some humor, but still a bit dark.......2006-07-11

I have three little ones at home, our oldest is 4 and he has twin brothers that are 19 months younger. I find that when I get together with other parents in similar situations we are always laughing about the things our kids do and the realities of life with little ones. I always find that after one of those sessions I feel recharged as a parent. I was hoping this book would be a similar experience. Some parts really were very nice and funny. But much of it fell into the kind of funny, but angry or sarcastic camp. This sort of jaded or dark humor is easier to write, but it did not give me a refreshing recharge. Instead, many parts leave you wondering when will they grow up and stop being so difficult. Bottom line, I wanted humor to refresh but felt like it created too much of a negative feel. If you are looking for more edgey parenting humor - this book works well and is funny in that way.

This wonderful book got me through a rough time being the mother of small children. It was easy to read in the middle of diapers, naps, and playtime. She makes you laugh and feel good through her escapades as a mother. Jen Singer expresses "Mommy Hood" in a new light. Jen's website is an excellent source for Mommies who need a five minute break to brighten there day. Jen's book helped me realize there are other moms out there going through similar trials. I will forever be a loyal reader to her work. Thank you, Jen!

Some days I wake up and my first thought is, "I can't wait to go back to bed tonight." Jen Singer made me realize I was not the only one cleaning crayons out of toddlers teeth and starving for some adult conversation. I read most of this book sitting in the parking lot of my older kid's school while my two year old twins took the nap that I so desperately needed each day. The parents in the cars around me must have thought I had lost my mind as she had me reduced to tears and uncontrolable laughter at the same time. Thanks Jen.
