Good Textbook.......2006-07-07
A great book that I often reccommend for anyone who asks a lot of questions about grooming, at shows or at home. I Love grooming my horses, and this book gives you many new ideas and 'tricks' to try to make your horse have good and healty coat. I doesn't matter what breed or disciplne you show, this book has it all. I show hunter-jumpers and eventing, but I also have two miniature horses that I show and this book helped me with all of them!
Making the dirtiest chores enjoyable!.......2003-05-20
This is one of those books you don't use every day, but when you're thoroughly confused or completely forgetting something it comes in handy. It has alot of great pictures and illustrations that make it great for kids as well as adults. I learned alot about alternative grooming methods that I had never even heard of before!
Grooming to win is a must have for any horse owner!.......2001-12-19
Grooming to win is for any discipline, and any breed. I used it as a reference for getting back into the show ring. It's like having your own trainer with you all the time. I show Morgan and Quarterhorses and it covers everything from conditioning to getting those braids in right!
DONT SHOW WITHOUT IT!
An Essential For Winning In Showmanship.......2001-08-22
This is one of the best books that I've found that explains grooming your horse step by step - not only for the show ring, but for everyday maintenance. Ms. Harris details breed protocols for the show ring (good news for the novice showman!). Did you know that it is considered bad form to braid the hunter on the left side of the neck, and vice versa for western pleasure horses? From achieving that showring bloom to step by step braiding guides, this book is a must for any competetive horseman's book collection!
Very Comprehensive.......2001-06-02
From body clipping to everyday grooming, Ms. Harris has provided an excellent reference for everyone from the first-time exhibitor to seasoned professionals. She covers nearly every riding discipline imaginable, going over grooming procedures for each in a thorough yet consice manner. Her explanations are easy to translate into technique and the book offers many illustrations. This book makes for excellent reading for the novice and a wonderful referrence for the more experienced horse groom.

Pretty easy.......2007-06-08
The tricks are few and simple to teach. The explanation is pretty thorough. My yearling is doing it. Haven't tried my 5 or 16 yr. olds yet.
Great easy to follow book!.......2007-06-01
I bought this book for my 10 yr old daughter and myself to learn some tricks to teach our horses....It's very easy to follow (even for a 10 yr old!), methodical and lots of fun!
Have Fun With Your Horse.......2007-01-11
I have purchased this book several times as a gift (I own it myself). Simple instructions, well illustrated guide for teaching several tricks to your horse. This is a lot of fun when the weather is bad and you're confined to the barn.
A must-have for horse-lovers!.......2007-01-10
If you think of your horse as more than a thing to ride, a member of the family with his/her own unique personality, then this is the book to bring out the star in your horse! Hours of fun, and a great bonding tool for that special equine in your life.
Fun for you and your horse.......2006-12-01
I do a trick training session once a week with my draft horse to break up the riding routine. It's a lot of fun for both of us. This book is really good at explaining the different steps to do each of the tricks and the pictures are pretty fun.
It's a great start for anyone that wants to learn either basic tricks or some of the more complicated ones like bowing.
Put this on your santa list for you and your horse!!

Clear explanations of what, how, when and why........2005-02-01
I do a some scribing at schooling shows, and this book in clear language and a logical presentation covers the things judges have explained about what they are looking for, why things are weighted differently at different levels, what specifics mandate an insufficient (4), what elements do NOT prevent a sufficient (5) score, but what must be present for it to be satisfactory (6). This applies to the nuances between Fairly Good, Good, Very Good and Excellent as well. The definition and explanation of correct execution of the directives and the movements they apply to are themselves a basic education in dressage. He covers schooling exercises for correct development, he covers common riding faults and how they affect the horse and the execution of the test, he covers strategies and techniques for riding the test as well advice for how to approach the whole thing of showing. I thought the book was excellent help not only on showing, or how to maximize the riding of the test itself but also on the training going on at home. A friend told me about the book because it gave the first explanation of a half-halt that truly made sense to her; and I found myself constantly nodding my head as all the bits and pieces I'd been hearing from various judges were right there in a lovely logical, clear structure.
Competitive Edge I & II.......2000-03-07
We have no idea how differently things look from where the judge sits at "C". Max enlightens us in his books. My scores have gone up significantly with his help. I always start out the show season by rereading them as a "reminder session". Besides, he is the only dressage author whose work is entertaining as well as informative! If you compete, do your self and your horse a favor. Read these books!
An eye opener !.......1999-09-03
This book is filled with many, many helpful things even my trainer neglected to tell me about! A must have for anyone who wants to be competitive

Book Description
It's clever, it's creative, and most of all, it's fun: super origami made with those stick-it desk notes found on every desk. These projects make work just a little more entertaining.
Everyone has them in the office and even at home: ordinary pads of sticky notes in a range of colors and sizes. With the help of innovative origami expert David Mitchell, they can quickly become attractive paper sculptures. All it takes is a few minutes to finish off something beautiful during an interminable phone call or while waiting for a meeting to begin. Each of the 20 projects-including 3-D animals, posies to put on a message, and geometric designs-feature detailed diagrams and a color photo of the completed piece. And every item was especially created to take advantage of the paper's sticky end. It's the sure-fire antidote to those boring moments on the job.

great book.......2007-03-29
this book is very nice and i like it a lot there are some really cool models in this book like diamonds where if you put the mtogether it lookes like a 3 dimentional shape i like this book a lot i has some really cute models like wizards and cool shapes A great buy for anyone who gets bored at the desk (or school for that matter.)
I DISAGREE WITH THE LAST REVIEW.......2006-12-24
I thought the book was delightful. The directions for each design are extremely clear, which is NOT always the case with origami books. One great design is a sticky note take on a flexagon, which works very well since the paper comes with its own stickiness -- no transparent tape required. The models are relatively easy (till the last few), so this would be a good book for an origami novice. An experienced folder might want to take a look at a copy before purchasing.
A great disappointment.......2006-08-25
The book contains 25 designs. Many of these are pointless tile patterns. Most figures are standard designs - you join 2 post-its to make your starting square paper. A number of designs would require an explanation for a viewer to recognise what they are suppposed to be. When I ordered the book I expected I would end up with lovely little figures across my desk cleverly folded from post-its - there wasn't one figure I would display. Don't bother with this book - there are plenty better - even free stuff off the web is higher standard.
VERY CLEVER.......2006-04-26

Book Description
From the colonial splendor of old Savannah to the latest advances in plant hybridization, Guide to the Gardens of Georgia offers a bouquet of gardens you can visit. This guide captures the width and breadth of the Peach State, showcasing region by region one glorious garden after another. From the Coast to the Plains, the Piedmont region, and the Highlands, Georgia gardens beckon to be explored. This guide is for those who just like to look at pretty flowers and take walks down secluded, shaded paths as well as for those looking for ideas for their own gardens.
You learn the history and unique offerings of each garden, what plants to see and the best time to see them. Spring, of course, is the time for Georgia's wondrous display of azaleas, but there is something to see all year long.
Travelers to Atlanta will welcome the many gardens and natural areas hidden in this large city. Old Savannah comes alive, enticing you to explore gardens from a more genteel era. Antebellum mansions and their carefully planted surroundings in the old Cotton Belt are permeated with the fragrance of wisteria and honeysuckle. This is an indispensable guide for those who want to explore gardens as rich and colorful as the history of this Southern state.

Book Description
Gardens and natural areas are becoming more and more important as they assume the role of surrogate backyards for many individuals. These green spaces have universal appeal for gardeners, nature lovers, or anyone interested in either the cultivated curves of a well-executed landscape plan or the natural tangle of a wild, protected space. As the largest state east of the Mississippi River, Georgia can boast of a wide variety of public gardens and natural areas. This book features 45 of these areas with landscapes that vary from mountainous terrain to coastal environments, from urban areas to rural countryside, from plantation gardens to formal settings behind urban townhouses. Accompanying Al Spicer's color photographs are brief histories of each garden along with information on hours and/or season of operation, facilities available, points of interest, tips for successful touring, directions, and associated day trips. Georgia gardens are part of a rich southern horticultural heritage that traces its evolution from the first settlement in Savannah to the fertile ground of the New South. Whether you are an amateur or professional photographer, a plant connoisseur, a wildflower lover, a home gardener, a nature enthusiast, a traveler looking for unique experiences, or simply a lover of bygone days, Peach State Paradise will offer endless pleasures.

Book Description
The best-selling series of parenting handbooks for new dads is now available in a two-volume boxed set.
An ideal gift for the birth of a child, these books skillfully and with humor guide men through the daunting experience of being a new father, from birth through the toddler years. The first volume, The New Father: A Dad's Guide to the First Year, answers hundreds of questions, such as, How can you become an effective, involved father when you see your baby for only half an hour after work every day? and What is the best way to start saving for your child's college education? Author Armin Brott charts the physical, intellectual, verbal, and emotional changes the child is going through, and examines the emotional and psychological developments the father may be experiencing. He suggests activities appropriate to each month and covers such parenting issues as finding quality child care and understanding changes in the relationship with one's partner.
The second volume, The New Father: A Dad's Guide to the Toddler Years, devotes a chapter to every three months of the second and third years, addressing such questions as, At what age should you introduce your child to computers? and what guidelines should you follow when choosing a preschool? Following the format of the previous volume, this book examines a multitude of topics, including dealing with the baby's fears, choosing play activities, developing a parenting style, toilet training, and teaching kids about money.
Incorporating the author's and other fathers' personal experiences, as well as the advice of top researchers in the field, the books are illustrated with delightful cartoons that will make even the most anxious father chuckle.
Customer Reviews:
Excellent resource for new dad's.......2007-08-15
Excellent book, well written, easy to read, wealth of useful information presented in an interesting and funny manner.
An excellent book for first time fathers.......2007-07-20
I've been giving this book to all of my friends who are having kids. I found it to cover a broad range of relevant topics in a brief but "complete enough for me" manner. My wife (a physician) found it to be a little superficial in some areas, but I thought the coverage was perfect. A couple of things: 1) I found that it's best to read the chapter for your child's age just before they turn that age so that it's fresh 2) Some of the milestones listed in the book are aggressive - don't feel bad if your child starts crawling, walking or talking after the dates the book provides. PS I also thought the What's Going On in There book by Lise Eliot was good if you want a deep book on child development. It discusses the neurological development of an infant through toddler in layman's terms.
all Dads should read.......2007-02-07
Just like moms have What to expect when your expecting well this is the same for Dads in a form they will understand ( very Manly)
Great book for people who do not read.......2007-01-23
I love this series of books because they read fast and are humorous. My husband enjoyed the first book so much I got him this second one and many times there were things that my parenting books did not have. He enjoyed the humor and the fact that you can pick up and put these books down any time.
Great for 1st time dads.......2007-01-10
I had read several other books on babies and their first year before this one. I liked this one because it was tailored to the father. It gives easy to understand information about the baby, the baby's development, what your wife is going through (physically and emotionally), as well as yourself for each month of the baby up to 1 year.
Customer Reviews:
The "best" collection for expecting Dad's and beyond. .......2007-09-07
With its sophisticated "New Yorker" style comics and light hearted, realistic approach. I enjoyed reading these much more than my "What to Expect" books, which I still consider invaluable resources.
I loved how these books covered practical issues, such as college savings and some relationship issues that the Mom geared books don't touch. It supplies advice about weathering Moody Moms and creative ways to offer support. It gives enough relevant information to the Dad to understand and relate to the wife's stages of pregnancy, infant health and development and charts toddlers moods and stages without bogging down with a lot of potentially superfluous detail. These books even have some special "Dad" recipes, like making pretzels in the oven, that are supposed to be fun for Dad and Toddler. (I think that is pretty neat.)
In short these are great books, geared towards Dads, covering some things that the more technical books don't have room for, AND they didn't set off my "sexist" alarms. Let me tell you, my alarms are sensitive. I loved reading these. -The Mom (Oh, and my husband liked them too!)

Fathers have long played second banana to mothers in parenting books, but Armin A. Brott, author of The Expectant Father: Facts, Tips, and Advice for Dads-to-Be and The New Father: A Dad's Guide to the First Year is trying to change all that. In The New Father: A Dad's Guide to the Toddler Years, the third book in his New Father series, Brott takes on the second and third years of life from Dad's perspective--what he's experiencing, and what he should know. In answer to the question, "Why bother to stay involved?" Brott replies, "Three simple reasons: it's good for your kids, it's good for you, and it's good for your relationship with your partner." Brott covers the whole gamut of fatherhood issues, from developmental stages (discussed in three-month blocks) to discipline, dating, even divorce. Rather than focusing solely on kids, Brott discusses the larger experience of being a father, in a well-crafted, sensible manner. The New Father: A Dad's Guide to the Toddler Years gives contemporary fathers their own comprehensive reference to the challenging and delightful toddler years. --Ericka Lutz

Easy read.......2007-01-23
I love this series of books because they read fast and are humorous. My husband enjoyed the first book so much I got him this second one and many times there were things that my parenting books did not have. He enjoyed the humor and the fact that you can pick up and put these books down any time.
This book begs to be ignored.......2006-05-19
I read through this book and learned more about how inadequate the author feels than about anything else. This book is full of generalization, politically correct tripe, and features a disclaimer for the anti-marriage crowd.
I would prefer a book from someone who offends me and takes a position, over a book (like this one) where the author is a coward and refuses to say anything that might be considered politically incorrect.
Not surprising that this author ends the book with a section on how to survive a divorce.
Avoid this book like the plague - it makes a TERRIBLE gift!!!!.......2005-12-12
This is the second book I have received as a gift by this same author. Same cute cover (that I am sure led to the gift purchase), same insanely horrible content. Who on earth wants to be given a book about raising your toddler to flip through and find a chapter on the best strategies to get through a divorce (if the author actually took his own advice in the prior book, I have to assume the divorce information is from experience).
Once again, the author wrote a book focused on his own self doubts and fears, and couched it as a healthy way to raise children.
This is the second book I have ever stuck in the recycling bin instead of contributing to charity after reading it. No one on earth should be punished with this book.
Another great book in an intelligent series for Dads.......2004-06-29
Armin Brott writes terrific parenting books for Dads. They are well researched and the tone is encouraging and friendly. This particular book does a great job of providing insight into the challenges of the toddler years -- why they are such a challenge for parents and toddlers alike. Excellent book.
Andrew Gatchell.......2003-05-13
I bought this book after reading his book on the First Year. Organized in the same manner as the first, except divided into three month periods instead of one month, I found it again informative and funny. The information about temperaments was especially useful. We found books that became some of my daughter's favorites in the lists that he provides. Also, we are following Mr. Brott's advice about allowances and find that we are all learning. Now that my wife is pregnant again, I'm reading the Expectant Father and I expect I'll be re-reading the First Year and the Toddler Years books.
Book Description
A significantly updated, revised, and expanded guide to all aspects of fatherhood during a child's second and third years by the best-selling, critically acclaimed author of The Expectant Father.
At what age should you introduce your child to computers? When and how should you go about drawing up a will? The day your child starts preschool, how will you cope with the pangs of adult separation anxiety? The answers to these questions and hundreds more are found in the pages of this information-packed volume. Author Armin Brott devotes a chapter to every three months of the second and third years. In each chapter, Brott charts the physical, intellectual, verbal, and emotional changes the child is going through and examines the emotional and psychological developments the father may be experiencing. He discusses issues that may develop between fathers and their partners as well as matters that involve the whole family. In addition, each chapter contains a section called "You and Your Child," in which activities and issues appropriate to the given age are discussed.
New topics in this revised and expanded edition cover the latest research on child development, including brain growth. There is more advice for dads who are older, single, or in the military; fathers of preemies and multiples; stepfathers; and stay-at-home dads. This new edition adds information on a wide range of subjects, from helping a child grieve over the loss of a relative or a pet to health and safety issues to care of special-needs children.
Incorporating the author's and other fathers' personal experiences, as well as the advice of top researchers in the field, and illustrated throughout with delightful New Yorker-style cartoons underscoring the universality of the joys and woes of parenting, A Dad's Guide to the Toddler Years is an essential sourcebook for every dad. It's certain to give every mom helpful insights as well.
Customer Reviews:
A good read.......2007-10-08
I started reading the book after my child was well in his second year and it hit the nail on the head. The author has some good advice for caring for your child and planning for the future.
A wonderful read.......2005-06-06
Armin Brott keeps writing wonderful books that help fathers deal with the challenges of being a parent. So much time and energy is devoted to mothers, it is nice to know that someone realizes that fathers play an essential role in their children's development.
As the author of Your Children are Under Attack: How Popular Culture is Destroying Your Kids' Values, and How You Can Protect Them (Sourcebooks, 2005), I especially appreciated how Mr. Brott addresses concerns related to the emerging influence of popular culture on young children, e.g., time in front of computers.
More than anything, I enjoy Mr. Brott's compassionate and humorous style of writing. Though rigorously researched, he offers the information in a reader-friendly format and that is accessible and understandable.
For any father, this book is a great follow-up to The Expectant Father and The New Father.
