Charming and cute board book for small kids.......2005-03-11
I bought this book today and have been quite pleased with it. It's a short and simple book, with each page describing a kitten named Lucky and the things he does, such as climbing and seeing in the dark. The art is beautiful, with a perfect balance between cuteness and realism, and with enough detail to avoid being boring, yet not so much to confuse the youngest readers. The book itself is shaped like a kitten as well. Potential buyers should note that there are two editions of this available, a small "Pocket Kitten" version about the size of a Post-It note, and a larger version. This review is based on the pocket version, though I suspect the two are much the same. Pocket Kitten is a wonderful addition to the bookshelf of any child young enough to enjoy board books, or anyone of any age who appreciates cute kitten art.
A good book for toddlers.......2000-08-15
My daughter has enjoyed this book since she was about a year old. We have two cats, but neither one of them wanted to have anything to do with my daughter, and she was very frustrated that she couldn't hold them. This book solved the problem. It's very large, and the pictures are very expressive of typical kitten behavior. My daughter expecially loved the page where the cat asks to be tickled -- it didn't take her long to figure out how to do that! Now that she's three, and old enough to be able to approach the cats right, she can hold them and pet them. But every so often she pulls this book off of the shelf and asks to read it. It's not the kind of book that's going to be beloved by children for generations, but it's worth having if you have a toddler who likes animals.

This book is BIG! Great for little ones that love big pictures. Easy to turn board pages and very easy to understand words for the little ones. My baby loves it and I do too! :) I highly recommend the Great Pals Puppy as well.

Great Reference Book of All Breeds of Cats.......2001-03-09
This truly is a GIANT book of cats! I just got this book and love the many color photos and illustrations. It is very informative about the many coat colors and textures and also has sections on Looking After Your Cat, Reproduction, The Five Ages of the Cat, The Elderly Cat, and Natural Healthcare, among others. There is a section devoted to selective breeding and explains dominant and recessive genes. I particularly like the explanations for the origins of specific breeds and the characteristics of those breeds. This book is definitely a must have for every cat breeder and fancier's library.

Oldie and not so goodie.......2005-12-14
This book is now almost 20 years old in it's newest revision. For that reason most of the blanks and components discussed within are no longer being made or have been superseeded by much more modern materials and parts. I don't think readers will get much from reading about parts and pieces that aren't even made anymore and haven't been made in over a decade. But I did cull some good ideas from the book and the chapter on making your own rod wapping jig is very good.
If the writer would update the book I think it would be an excellent reference source. But as it is, unless you can make use of the ideas presented, the rest of it is so seriously outdated that I would recommend a difference source for up to date rod building information.
Buy This Book!.......2004-03-04
I have been building fishing rods for over 10 years and have read dozens of rod building books and spend daily time online with various rod building discussion groups. However, when I want an authoritative answer to a rod building or design question, I always turn to Dale for the answer and his Advanced Custom Rod Building always has it.
I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in learning the correct techniques for building a fishing rod.
Best Book On Custom Rod Building.......2003-06-01
If you are new to the hobby of building custom fishing rods or have been making rods for several years, then I suggest you buy this book. Mr. Clemens outlines in great detail...every step required in making a quality custom fishing rod and offers many tips that experienced builders can learn from too.
Advanced Custom Rod Building.......2002-02-12
Dale Clemens may be a rod-building "guru" to some, but to me he is simply a 13th degree black-belt .... I was shocked to read his bit on fishing for sailfish on one of his "custom-built" spinning rods! Needless to say, he proved himself to be a true ... when he related how the entire rod came apart as he was attempting to horse in a 100+ lb. fish. Like other "writers" in this field (fishing), Mr. Clemens attempts to be all things to all people. Unfortunately for the reader, Mr. Clemens' effort doesn't work. Simply put, I'd recommend staying away from all of the "generalists" and look for authors who devote their respective talents to writing about a narrowly defined topic, be it fly rod building, saltwater rod building, etc.
A Comprehensive Book.......2001-12-30
This is an excellent book, my only complaint being that it was not basic enough for my use. I have purchased Dale P. Clemens prior book (FiberGlass Rod Building) to catch up on the basics of rod building. Even so this is a wonderful book and it has me drooling to build a rod. If you have a rod or two under your belt this is the book for you.

TERRIFIC book on perennial gardening!.......2002-08-13
I have found this to be the most helpful gardening book ever. Lots of great illustrations! It is highly informative, and the information is presented so clearly, including breakdowns like lists of "plants for moist soil," "most fragrant plants," etc. Along with all the carefully presented descriptions of landscape gardening in general, the book includes detailed descriptions and photos of many individual perennials and what they can accompany in your garden.
