Nice Guide for Beginners.......2007-06-16
The author writes a nice overview of the entrepreneurial process. It's basically for novices but it does a good job for this audience. The only problem I have with this book is that it is too basic and is therefore non-unique because it is so low-level. Regardless, I must say that for the right audience, it does a fine job over giving the big picture.
If you are advanced or aspire to become advanced, I would recommend "The Startup Company Bible for Entrepreneurs" but only for high-tech entrepreneurs. Even this author has recommended it.
A Must-Have for Entrepreneurs.......2007-05-14
Steven gives great illustrations to drive home his insightful advice for entrepreneurs. As he's "been there, done that," we can take his advice to heart in the hopes of becoming a success like him!

This is a delightful little book that contains a wealth of useful and helpful information and ideas on starting a small business and ensuring that it is viable and succesful. The book is well written and easy to follow and interesting to read.
This is a must read for entrepreneurs, particularly budding ones as the information the book provides is very practical and can help you avoid making costly errors. The book covers a wide range of topics including the start-up process, marketing the business on a small budget, cash-flow forecasting, among other things.
The book is an excellent companion for the entrepreneur that is well worth having.
Invaluable advice for the budding entrepreneur.......2007-03-04
This book does a terrific job of presenting some of the most important issues entrepreneurs face when embarking on new ventures, touching on topics such as the business plan, funding, team building, and cash flows. Using simple, yet stunningly accurate models of the entrepreneurial process, Steven Gold distills complex subjects into simple, practical, take-away messages. The classification of entrepreneurial personalities (professionals, pragmatists, and inventors) is something I think we can all relate to. I find the metaphor which compares building a new company to making "stone soup" equally compelling. There are countless books out there for budding entrepreneurs, but this one is no fluff. It gets right down to the nuts and bolts so you can concentrate on your business.

Basic training of prospective owners of today's dogs........1998-12-27
This book is a very well written "primer" for those folks considering an addition to their lives, of the "doggy" kind. Doctor Becker takes the reader from choosing a dog, to the 'how to' areas of common sense. Written in simple, easy to read text, all levels of readers will benefit. Doctor Becker reinforces basic training techniques and disspells old myths. Worth the money.

Hoping that this is the man also known as Marty Becker, DVM.... I have not yet read Dr. Becker's new book but not for long, because I'm ordering it) but I want those of you who are not familiar with his work know that he is a very talented author. He writes article for many veterinary magazines on numerous subjects related to the field and I look forward to each new article. He is innovative and has a great sense of humor. Dr. Beckeris one of those people who we look up to and say "Man, how can anyone be so talented?" He is also a motivating speaker/lecturer and is very personable. This book should be no exception from what I have seen from Dr. Becker in the past.

My daughter is saving her money up to buy a Cockatiel, so she got this book and read it. She loved it! She says that it gives info on Parakeeks,Cockatiels,Lovebirds and Parrots. Also,cages,perches,toys,food,and what how much light it needs.It teaches one trick. It does not give specific foods or perches but she thought this book had a lot of information. She hopes you read it if you have a bird or are thinking about getting one.

A great way to organize the subject.......2000-07-24
After the introduction to "The World of Bulbs," and the garden habitats of bulbs, the author organizes the bulbs by blooming season: Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Mid-winter. The author then covers bulbs from South Africa, Tropical Bulbs and some practical information. This is a very practical way to organize bulbs, and most books on bulbs are not set up this way. There are excellent pictures throughout the book. Some of the bulbs have had changes in the latin names, and the author makes note of that. This book is botanically correct.
Another thing that I loved is the way Mathew included with each bulb "Associations." That is British for "Combinations," or what plants combine well with the bulbs. Some of the pictures showing these combinations were great. This is the type of thing that is very helpful to gardeners. You do have to keep in mind that he is writing for England, and a few of the plants mentioned (like heaths and heathers) do not do well in many American gardens. Keeping that in mind, the combinations were excellent.
At the end of each species description, the author lists the place of origin. This is also very helpful because then the gardener can use some common sense about where the plant likes to grow.
There are more species listed than anyone would find readily available in the trade, so the book is very complete, and perhaps too technical for some people. It's not a coffee-table book, after all.
