Book Description
Most people talk to their dogs (some people talk to their plants!), but Zig Ziglar has engaged in lively conversations and even the occasional debate with his Welsh Corgi dog, Taffy.
When Dirty Dog (Zig's affectionate nickname for Taffy) walked into the Ziglar family household on his short, stubby legs in early 1995, he walked straight into Zig's unsuspecting heart. Conversations With My Dog shows a side of America's number one motivator that few may have suspected. He's nuts about his dog - and the feeling is obviously mutual.
Their discussions about health, happiness, faith, and the nature of dogs and how to improve relationships - including the one Dirty Dog has with his Dad - make this not only an enjoyable read, but one that will leave you with much to consider.
Customer Reviews:
Preachy self-promotion.......2007-08-16
The author uses the guise of having a conversation with his dog to preach his views on life, character and morals to the listener. The idea that these are "conversations with his dog" is ridiculous. Several times in the book, the author shamelessly promotes his other books, etc. I found that tacky. The whole concept for the book just doesn't work in this case.
Entertaining and insightful.......2006-05-19
For this particular book, motivational speaker Zig Ziglar employees a highly unusual and interesting method of getting the reader (or in my case, listener) to think. This entire volume is written as if Ziglar's dog, whom he affectionately refers to as "Dirty Dog" has co-written the book. It consists of many different fictional conversations that Ziglar (whom Dirty Dog affectionately refers to as "Dad") has had with Dirty Dog. Dad and Dirty Dog try to discover what makes each other tick and in the process are able to build a greater bond with one another. While being entertained by these conversations, many life lessons are presented -- lessons that teach compassion and understanding, and quite a few Biblical principals that if applied to daily life, can make for a richer, happier existence for the reader.
The lessons taught are simple and basic but it is these same simple basic principals that so many of us neglect or forget in our self-centered day to day living.
Ziglar's insight comes through loud and clear in the audio presentation in particular. His reading of the book lets the listener feel as if he's hearing these "conversations" first hand.
I admit that I was a little put off by the unusual presentation of this material and didn't actually plan to listen anymore after the first disc. But several of Ziglar's statements stayed with me over the next few days and I found myself wanting to hear more. I'm glad I played the other three discs because the listening experience became more and more enjoyable (and valuable) as the the book continued.
I recommend this to anyone who has enjoyed the author's previous works.
A Dissappointing Read.......2005-12-29
This book caught my eye because I own and grew up with Pembroke Welch Corgis. I had not read any other books by Zig Ziglar but had heard of him. At first I found the material somewhat simplistic like someone is reading a book for children and the chapters hold this old fashioned "father knows best" advice that is outdated and old news. I was espcially offended by a chaper in which he explains to his dog how it was ok for his wife to "spank" him. He states ". . . I believe that when kids misbehave, mild corporal punishment is a good approach to take." Then he quotes the bible to back this up. I can't believe he is using this dog in this way, he is not an authority on dogs and it is never effective or ok to hit a dog. The book also had alot of references to religion and the bible. I wished I would have known what was in this book, I would have save my money by not buying it. It was a very disappointing book.

Book Description
Do you ever talk to your dogs? I confess. I do.
Lucy, our Yellow Lab and my first dog, turned 13 last year. While she has always maintained her sweet disposition, we could definitely see her growing old. She could no longer hear very well, had lost one eye to glaucoma, and could no longer bear weight on her rear leg. Despite her ailments, our whole family loved her more than ever.
As an only child, I always longed for a dog, but until Lucy, I never had one. My mother was afraid of dogs, at least until we got Lucy. She has now learned to love Lucy as much as we do.
In 13 years, Lucy has witnessed many changes in our family. Adam was nine and Dan five when we brought her home; now Adam is a writer in New York City and Dan is a sophomore at the University of Wisconsin. When they left home last year after Christmas vacation, they feared they might never see her again. Before they left, each spent tearful moments alone with her, in their rooms.
Over the years, Lucy and I often have had meaningful conversations, not just the normal master-dog, command-response exchanges, but soulful explorations, usually while we were alone on a trail at County Farm Park. With her expressive Lab face, her head cocked to one side, and those amber, imploring eyes, Lucy has been an excellent listener. She rarely interrupts or turns the conversation toward herself.
This book is a collection of my conversational poems to Lucy. If you ever talk to your pet, contemplate what it means to grow old, wonder about the origins of the universe, grieve losses, celebrate the miracle of a comet at sunset, give your dog ice cream, long for reunions with old friends, or wonder about God, this book may bring you some pleasure.

Janis B........2007-06-26
This is a wonderful book, with much to say about the unique relationship we have with our dogs and great insights on human behavior (and what dogs have to teach us). This is a wonderful gift for any dog lover.
A book about relationships.......2000-03-29
Rob Pasick has written a delightful book! He shares moving and endearing insights that capture a wide range of emotions between a man and his dog. Although not pet owners, we thoroughly enjoyed the book and easily related to it. It made us reflect on the essence of relationships: animal and human.
Animals can Save our Souls and Sanity.......2000-01-21
It's wonderful to see a book written for people who share their time on earth with a pet. Any pet owner (not just dog owner's) can relate to this book. I have been around animals and their owners all my life. I know that people will recognize the peace of mind they create while "meditating" with their pet. My Dad would have loved this book! Thanks Rob, from everyone who shopped at Joe's.
Conversations with an old ý smart dog!.......2000-01-11
This book is long overdue! Rob Pasick 's reflections are refereshingly frank and simulataneously humorous as one confronts the dual crisis of personal decline and the finality of death. Rob's converations with Lucy, faitful yellow lab 13 year companion, reveal a lot more than chatter with a so-called "dumb friend." There's nothing "dumb" about this small, highly readable book that ought to rank right up there with Tuesday With Morrie. A must read!
A Pet As The Perfect Listener.......2000-01-06
'Conversations with My Old Dog' is a delightful quick read for anyone who either enjoys journaling or who contemplates life's problems - large or small. You needn't have had a pet to enjoy this book, but that would surely add meaning for you. The collection of topics in these conversational poems written to the author's dog, Lucy, range from old age to losing things. Subtle doses of humor will bring a smile to your face. Maybe pets really do have solutions to life's perplexities!

Lots of banner designs.......2006-10-25
I am a beginner banner maker. I put 4 banners in my church for Easter (2004)as well as using #34 as altar parament and the response was great. My challenge then was to keep the banners refreshed and seasonal. For the summer I used the design on front cover, main banner said "Seek and you will find" side panels said, "Heart, Soul, Mind" and "Faith, Mercy, Grace." The Praise God banner, p4 and 1 from from another book by Mrs. Harms (Quick and Easy Banners Designs)finished my summer display. Christmas I used the angel p34 and the angel from her other book, I rendered them in white satin, layered wings and glitter. Spectacular, Awasome designs. I also made several for Kid Kingdom from this book. Can't wait to make some more!
Banners for Worship (Concordia Banner Craft).......2006-08-14
Our team found this book very easy to follow in construction and information. We constructed 6 banners in a very short time by using this book and were VERY pleased as to 1-2-3 steps included. We recommend this one for usage of beginning users as well as those who have constructed them for awhile.
Great ideas.......2006-08-13
Hey! Just xerox the design page of the banner of your choice and get out the colored pencils. Color in the drawing and you have a good jumping off point to take to the fabric store. Pin swatches to the sheet for an easy reference. I have used several of the designs in the sanctuary and have received no complaints. Simple way to get started and has loads of info inside.
I would also recommend How to design and make banners for sacred and secular festivals by Banbury and Dewar (some color pics) AND Fabric applique for worship by Jerdee (NO color pics except cover & includes stoles and chausables). Both of these are for the more advanced, creative designers and seamstresses out there.
Nice but no color.......2004-03-11
Nice ideas but no color pages. Only the cover of the book has color.
The Best of the Best.......2002-05-26
As a beginner in banner making, this book proved to be just what I needed to start what has blossomed into a large banner ministry. There is a wealth of information on the purpose, design, construction, display and storage of worship banners as well as pages of creative designs and suggested color schemes. It remaims my favorite in a growing library of banner books.

Good place to start.......2006-08-13
This book has a good selection of designs to use for your sanctuary. My church made the angel trumpet design for Christmas 15 years ago and we still use them today. Nothing wrong with a good foundation.
Customer Reviews:
Fantastic.......2005-03-16
I am not a sewer! I can't sew a stitch, but I can glue down things! This book has given me some wonderful ideas! There are some very good examples in this book. Great for those of us who are not "crafty" and don't have a great sense of style. I have to "copy" things, and these are great! Thanks Dale Bargmann for making it a little easier for me!
Customer Reviews:
Perfect for the non-liturgical church.......2005-05-25
I have been creating banners with designs from this book for several years, learning as I go. Though we are not a liturgical church, the banners follow the "church year" and would be well suited to a more formal church as well. For others in more contemporary settings such as ours, there are many usable designs to fit various size spaces. The design elements include graphics with a brief text; the purpose being to provoke thought. I would certainly recommend this as a very usable tool.
Stick figures and alphabets.......2004-02-14
What a pathetic book! Nothing but stick figures and scripture on banners. Absolutely no designs to work with. Anybody can cut out and glue words to fabric! The large pictures in the first half of the book are duplicated in smaller print in the second half. I wasted my money. Don't waste yours!!

Book Description
"Why Men Run From Relationships", Changes magazine The Flying Boy: Healing the Wounded Man is a record of one man's journey to find his "true masculinity" and his way out of co-dependent and addictive relationships. It's a book for all men and women who grew up in dysfunctional families and are now ready for some fresh insights into their past and their pain. The Flying Boy is a story about feelings - losing them, finding them and finally expressing them. Here you will find people you know; will discover a way out of the pain and see that it really is OK to express yourself without fear. The book is about grieving, a very misunderstood process often confused with self-pity. The Flying Boy opens doors to understanding - men will understand themselves and each other, and women will more deeply understand men, learn how to be with wounded men and still take care of themselves.

Flying Boy Retains Altitude.......2007-08-17
I'm told this could have been a little more specific inasfar as guidance; however, it's based on the author's experiences and one soon understands that it's necessary to apply the information to one's own life. Once that light bulb goes on, it's a good read and a helpful work. It's also very short, and that helps a lot with motivation. :o)
There are better books on this subject.......2004-05-17
I found this book lacking. There are better authors out there covering this subject with more clarity.
Engaging retelling of the search for self........1998-09-27
John Lee, well known in the men's movement and the recovery movement, sets out to share with us his growth through his own troubles based on his prior relationships. His insights are well worth the read, as he shares with us the enlightenment he experiences as he tries to deal with the weight of his parents, his early rejections, and his inability to express the rage he feels in an appropriate way. His story is sometimes almost too personal: we don't really want to be there through ALL of it, somehow. And yet, we are transfixed even on the most basic responses he feels. His progress is steady and we are rewarded by the goals he achieves. Alas, like real life, there is no happy ending with the girl, the horse and the sunset. Still, the changes he feels, the inner pains he quells, these are all worth the pain he still carries, the fights he still has to fight. An enduring volume, and a must for the man still struggling with his father, struggling with his pain, or not sure why he struggles, only that he does.
Helpful for survivors of toxic families........1998-09-21
I found this book helpful, hopeful and comforting for both my own pain from childhood traumas and for understanding the person I love so much who has his own demons from his childhood raised in an alcoholic family. Lee's book is probably most helpful to those who are ready and willing to face their problems and find professional help to guide them in confronting and neutralizing the pain so destructive to successful and meaningful adult relationships. A short read, an inexpensive book, but very useful!
