Fast Quilts from Fat Quarters.......2007-01-09
My, oh, my. I had no clue how wonderful this book was when I ordered it.
My 14 year old granddaughter picked up the book last week and shared how
many she wanted to make out of this one. It's sew easy instructions and
the speed in which you can complete any of these quilts makes it a book that I'm sure to use over and over again. Can't wait to find time to get one or more done.

Great Book.......2007-10-12
This book has gorgeous quilts in it, especially the quilt interrupted. I would recommend this book.
Wonderful Projects.......2007-07-14
I have been dying to take a class on M'Liss Hawley quilts but don't like paying the price for the classes. I bought this book for the Quilt Interrupted pattern. Wow!!! All the projects are beautiful and its great the there are two or three versions of each quilt to spark every quilter's imagination.
Great quilting book.......2007-01-12
Love this book. Patterns are good for a beginner like me.
Phenomenal Fat Quarters.......2006-08-30
I love making scrappy quilts and this gave me some more ideas.
Clear instructions, lovely designs, and the results are great.......2005-12-17
Like every other quilter, I can't resist those packages of fat quarters. Someone else has done the hard work of matching fabrics that work together so well that they sparkle. But when you get home... what the heck can you do with them?
By this point, I've collected quite a few quilting books, and I'm often surprised at the varied quality. Sometimes, the quilts are pretty, but the step-by-step process is unclear. Sometimes, the sample quilts are perfectly nice, but *I* would sure never make them. Not in THOSE fabrics. Or you can't even figure out what the quilt would look like.
M'Liss Rae Hawley avoids all those traps. I'm just finishing the first quilt I've tried from the book, and I'm very impressed. The instructions are very clear, with plenty of sensible tips about color choice, cutting techniques, and so on. I'm going to make a point of looking for more books by this author.
First, all the quilts in this book are attractive. She also gives SEVERAL photos of what each pattern will look like, using different fabrics -- which is particularly appreciated since fat quarter packs can very from a rainbow of batiks to a collection of floral fabrics, and it's hard (at least for me) to estimate the resulting mood of the quilt. There's plenty of eye candy and creative inspiration.
As you'd imagine, these quilts all feature fat quarters -- anywhere from 6 to 12 of them. Don't expect to grab that package and get right to work, though, as every quilt needs at least one additional fabric; often, it's a focus fabric, sometimes a background. Also, while the quilts are bed-size, they're pretty much for smaller beds -- usually twin, maybe full.
Great book, though. Recommended.

Customer Reviews:
This book is only okay.... .......2007-04-16
This book is nice in that it has many quilt patterns for fat quarters. The photos are in color and the directions seem easy to follow to complete the projects. However, the down side for me on this book was I didn't care for the patterns or color choices. I realize you can change up the colors, but I have to be inspired by the quilt if I'm to attempt to make it, and these modern style quilts just didn't do it for me. It's a personal thing I quess, but if your like me and like the warmer, traditional type patterns and colors... you will be disappointed in this book.
Fat Quarters.......2006-03-21
I was very happy with the books I ordered and received them peomptly.
Fat Quarter Quilts by Mliss Rae Hawley.......2005-09-19
I get great results when using the simple techniques illustrated in this book. I will order more of Mliss Rae Hawley books. This is just the kind of book I like to keep in my library.
Wonderful guide!.......2004-11-16
I just purchased this book but am already thrilled with what I've read! Fat quarters are so addictive but I didn't know what to do with them - this book is a great guide for using them. I like the fact that each quilt is shown in more than one collection of colors. This is a great book and I hope that there will be many sequels to it!
Great Book for a Beginner.......2003-02-04
I bought this book to figure out what to do with all my fat quarters. I just started quilting about 7 months ago and I have become a fabric addict. This book has some very nice quilts in it and I do think that I could make many of the quilts in the book. If you understand the basics of cutting fabric and sewing it together but you aren't quite ready for something that requires many different techniques, this would be a great guide for you.

more fat quarter quilts.......2006-03-18
Has some great embroidery blocks for quilting. I have some ideas for these quilts that will be EASY to make.
Great Patterns, minor error.......2006-01-13
I love ALL the patterns in this book. I too discovered the error in the middle of making a quilt and had to make do with what I had. I love all the patterns and as a fairly new quilter, I found these quilts easy and fun to make. The colors in the book are great. I love how there are multiple quilts shown for each pattern, each with great colors. I can't wait to make more. Just be careful and read all the directions to make sure there aren't any other mistakes.
I love this book!.......2003-02-27
The first quilt that I made was from this book, and I plan on making at least two or three more. Actually, I like all of the patterns, and it is very rare that one likes every single pattern in a book! The quilts range from quite small baby/wall size to one that's big enough for a bed, with most of the designs falling into the lap quilt category. A couple of the quilts are easy enough for a brand-spanking-new beginner, and the others are in the advanced beginner/intermediate range. Two are paper pieced, the rest are strip pieced, and there is one quilt specifically designed to showcase machine-embroidered blocks.
One thing I really love about this book is that each quilt is shown in three or four variations, so the reader gets a chance to see how dramatically fabric choices affect the outcome of a quilt. Hawley also gives tips on fabric selection. Brief sections on piecing and finishing are included, though this is not really a how-to book. It is, however, an excellent book for a new quilter, as well as for a more advanced quilter who is looking for a fairly quick stitch, or for ideas on how to use some of those pretty fat quarters she has collected!
Nice Quilts but too many errors.......2003-01-22
I ran into the same problem as the previous review with the Rail Fence quilt. Also the design called Island Star contains errors both in the finished size (51.5 x 41.5) and some of the cutting instructions. It is a lovely quilt so I would suggest making a sample block first to be on the safe side.
Great resource!.......2003-01-10
I love looking at the quilts in this book and her previous books. I find a lot of inspiration in the gallery. I just finished making the top of the bargello quilt and had a lot of fun.

Review of 256 Fat Quarters Quilt Book.......2007-03-11
The book is excellent. New condition. Just what I expected.
bad instruction .......2007-01-04
I did not like this book at all as it involved using templates and not rotary cutting. Very tedious. I returned the book. I wish the authors of these books would be more clear in stating whether these pattterns use templates. I received credit for it in a timely manner.
Templates.......2006-02-15
This is a nice book except it uses templates. I rotary cut as much as I can. This book even has templates for squares and rectangles - why in this age of rotary cutting? There should be a cross-reference for the template name and the size of the square or rectangle. I measured them in the book and put the sizes next to the template name. What a hassel. I'm keeping this book but I will not buy another book like this.

Customer Reviews:
very good for the price.......2004-09-13
If this were an expensive book, I wouldn't rate it so highly, but it has more information than you'd think for a cheap little paperback. The koi varieties section is mediocre, but you want a big glossy hardcover for that anyway, right? The advice on koi handling and transport is outstanding, with great emphasis on minimizing stress to your fish. There is also information on plants, something most koi keepers disdain to mention. Another reviewer thought the author was against wheat germ sticks for koi--he's not condemning them, just saying there's no proof they make a difference in over-wintering. So much of koi advice is unsupported, it doesn't hurt to mention the fact.
Ok.......2002-06-04
Where's the part about behavior, the part about training your fish to come on over (admittedly this is easy) and how about a more comprehensive types and markings - it was also sad they really skipped over butterfly koi. Otherwise nice pictures and a good disease section.
Oh well. Nice book to have, but it is not by any means complete.
Good, but could be better.......2002-05-16
This book includes everything you need to take care of koi, but sometimes in too much detail. Many of the items in this book are exactly the opposite of what I have read elsewhere (e.g wheatgerm sticks are bad for koi??)
While too much detail is usually the problem, there are also many parts when there are not enough facts to actually understand what thi book is trying to say.
It's an OK beginners guide, but some parts can be tedious and confusiong.
One of the two books you need........2002-02-07
This book has all the information you need on keeping Koi. Don't let its small size fool you. I have browse through all available Koi books, this book is the only one you need. You will not get more information from other books, except for more pictures. Buy this book and another book titled "The ponder's Bible" for excellent information on pond building and maintenance. These two books will be more than enough for keeping Koi sucessfully.
Excellent.......2000-07-18
If you're a beginner at having a pond and keeping koi, this is a great book. It has everything from digging the pond, filters and pumps...to everything you need to know to keep the pond clean for your fish. The book identifys the various breeds of koi, with a complete section on diseases.

As a hobbyist for more than 3 decades, this is a very good book for those thinking about doing a pond as well as those who already have one. An excellent and well written guide for beginners.
Customer Reviews:
One of the best parenting books I've read.......2005-10-04
I've read a lot of parenting books, and this is one of my favorites. It teaches you how to respond to your children with love and respect, and how to respond to them in ways that are appropriate for their age. I love the fact that she has different chapters for 1, 2, 3 and 4 year olds. Many discipline books try to get you to do the same things for a 1 year old that work for a 3 year old - and clearly they are very different beings! I also love the fact that she talks about both philosophy and techniques; without a philosophy, techniques are useless.
We have used her suggestions for our 1 and 4 year olds, and they work well. We have well behaved, creative, loving children. What more could you ask?
A great resource to read through and go back to as needed........1999-02-06
"Parenting with Purpose" is an absorbing overview of parents' goals and means of achieving them. It is so relevant I found it hard to put down, but because of its thorough organization and comprehensive table of contents, I regard it as a very accessible reference, too. Dr. Madison highlights the wondrous accomplishments achieved in the first four years of life with refreshing perspective on the motivation of young children and acknowledges the hard work that parenting often requires. She reminds us of the investment for life that we make when we take the time to give care and attention to our youngsters. An inspiring guidebook, to be sure!
excellent resource loaded with real-life examples.......1999-01-20
As a former social worker and a parent and step-parent myself, I've looked at lots of books about parenting. Dr. Madison's book is thoughtful and well organized in its approach to parenting. She includes not only the "how-tos" but also the underlying developmental issues. Loaded with real-life examples that resonate with today's parents. I immediately sent a copy to my brother, a first-time parent of a 2 1/2 year old who still awakens her parents 2-3 times a night! He asked for help, and this book served as a life-line!
A sensible guide for life-long parenting.......1999-01-12
This book will help you find your parenting philosophy, your "purpose", and gives you sensible tips that have worked wonders in our household (2 year old and 4 month old). It emphasizes the importance and responsibility of parenting, and shows how you can be successful, while still maintaining your sanity. After reading this book, we both feel more comfortable as parents, and our daughters have responded.
