Book Description
You can’t teach an old dog new tricks—but he can teach us a thing or two! Here’s an entertaining and insightful appreciation of man’s (and woman’s) best friend with a simple premise: if we based our behavior more closely on Fido’s wonderful qualities, we could live better, happier, more spiritual lives. The many ways dogs relate to their human friends are explored, from the days of puppy love to lasting loyal companionship. Discover ways to enjoy life more and “wag our tails;” let loose with some “hot diggity dog” enthusiasm; or just “work like a dog” and get the job done right. Full of endearing photographs and quotes that capture the essence of our dog buddies, this gift is perfect for anyone who’s ever played fetch.

Book Description
The first four chapters present general information characterizing hypersonic flows, discuss numerical formulations of varying degrees of rigor in computational fluid dynamics (CFD) codes, and discuss the strengths and limitations of the various types of hypersonic experimentation. Other chapters cover the stagnation-region flowfield, the inviscid flowfield, the boundary layer, the aerodynamic forces and moments, viscous/inviscid interactions and shock/shock interactions, and a review of aerothermodynamics phenomena and their role in the design of a hypersonic vehicle. Sample exercises and homework problems are presented throughout the text.
Customer Reviews:
Excellent.......1997-11-16
Excellent reference source for estimating re-entry heat loads. After reading the text you are left with the feeling that you 'have a good handle on the subject matter'. That's about the best you can say for this kind of book. The few examples that cover stagnation point temperature estimation have a few steps that could be expanded to better illustrate where the numbers came from and how they are used. No complains here. though.

Book Description
Structural Dynamics in Aeronautical Engineering is a comprehensive introduction to the modern methods of dynamic analysis of aeronautical structures. The text is particularly suitable for undergraduate students. For advanced students, the text provides numerous references on seminal work on structural dynamics that can be used for graduate level research.
The text represents carefully developed course materials, beginning with an introductory chapter on matrix algebra and methods for numerical computations, followed by a series of chapters discussing specific aeronautical applications. In this way, the student can be guided from the simple concept of a single-degree-of-freedom structural system to the more complex multidegree-of-freedom and continuous systems, including random vibrations, nonlinear systems, and aeroelastic phenomena. Among the various examples used in the text, the chapter on aeroelasticity of flight vehicles is particularly noteworthy with its clear presentation of the phenomena and its mathematical formulation for structural and aerodynamic loads.

Product Description
This is a NAVAL POSTGRADUATE SCHOOL MONTEREY CA report procured by the Pentagon and made available for public release. It has been reproduced in the best form available to the Pentagon. It is not spiral-bound, but rather assembled with Velobinding in a soft, white linen cover. The Storming Media report number is A839424. The abstract provided by the Pentagon follows: This thesis identifies and explains the critical changes that have occurred in the complex system of interrelated rules which have governed the defense budget process in Poland since 1989. This research explains the legal and institutional evolution of the defense budget process in post-communist Poland, focusing on the role of legislative authority i.e., the Sejm and the Senat of the Republic of Poland within the defense budget process since the collapse of the Warsaw Pact. It also analyzes the distribution of power among the different actors in the budget cycle. This is followed by a thorough description of rules imposed by the Law on Restructuring, Technical Modernization and Financing of the Polish Armed Forces in the Years 2001-2006, and the Act of Equipping the Armed Forces of the Republic of Poland with Multi- Role Aircraft. These two documents were instrumental in shaping defense spending in Poland in the years 2001-2003 and will have a great impact on future decisions concerning defense budgets in the years to come. An overview of defense spending by European members of NATO is also provided to allow a comparison of Poland s willingness to commit resources to the common defense of other NATO members.

It is not spiral-bound, but rather assembled with Velobinding in a soft, white linen cover. The Storming Media report number is A308853. The abstract provided by the Pentagon follows: The goal of this thesis is to determine the best way to manage the Flying Hour program (FHP) from the perspective of the U.S. Marine Forces Atlantic (MAPFORLANT) Aviation Budget Officer. The thesis has two main objectives. The first objective is to describe the organization and current financial management issues related to the FHP at the Department of the Navy (DON) and MARFORLANT levels. An historical overview of the FHP, an analysis of federal and defense budgeting dynamics, and an impact analysis of the Marine Aviation Campaign Plan are provided. The second objective is to conduct quantitative analysis of selected MARFORLANT data to better understand FHP cost behavior. Regression results are compared with previous DON research to determine the suitability of Cost Per Hour as the most reliable FHP metric. Analysis confirmed that there is a direct relationship between fuel and flight hours, but showed virtually no correlation between flight hours and aviation maintenance costs. These findings indicate that regression models show too much variability for them to be used to displace the DON OP-20 model as the primary means for budget forecasting for the FHP. The thesis concludes that the Aviation Budget Officer must continue to rely on qualitative budgeting skills to maximize the financial condition of MARFORLANT Aviation.

Book Description
Are gardens works of art? What is involved in creating a garden? How are gardens experienced by those who stroll through them?
In What Gardens Mean, Stephanie Ross draws on philosophy as well as the histories of art, gardens, culture, and ideas to explore the magical lure of gardens. Paying special attention to the amazing landscape gardens of eighteenth-century England, she situates gardening among the other fine arts, documenting the complex messages gardens can convey and tracing various connections between gardens and the art of painting.
What Gardens Mean offers a distinctive blend of historical and contemporary material, ranging from extensive accounts of famous eighteenth-century gardens to incisive connections with present-day philosophical debates. And while Ross examines aesthetic writings from the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, including Joseph Addison's Spectator essays on the pleasures of imagination, the book's opening chapter surveys more recent theories about the nature and boundaries of art. She also considers gardens on their own terms, following changes in garden style, analyzing the phenomenal experience of viewing or strolling through a garden, and challenging the claim that the art of gardening is now a dead one.
Showing that an artistic lineage can be traced from gardens in the Age of Satire to current environmental installations, this book is a sophisticated account of the myriad pleasures that gardens offer and a testimony to their enduring sensory and cognitive appeal. Beautifully illustrated and elegantly written, What Gardens Mean will delight all those interested in the history of gardens and the aesthetic and philosophical issues that they invite.
