a good book for someone who knows nothing or very little about chinchillas but would like to learn. i wouldnt advice getting this as a book to help you raise a chin of your own since it doesnt cover alot of info (what not to feed, what number to keep) and its out of date as it was written in 1987. it does have good colored pictures and cute cartoon pictures but not alot of good info.

Woo-hoo!.......1998-09-30
WOO-HOO! This is the best book in the whole intire world about hamsters! Except can you please tell me again how you breed hamsters? (making sure they are mating and will have a litter and what you should feed them, ect.) My name is jessica Lee Email me and tell me if you wish!
Customer Reviews:
No mention of diabetes?.......2006-03-17
Not to oversimplify, but if a guide to dwarf hamsters doesn't mention diabetes - a *huge* issue with the Campbells variety - then assume it's flawed in other ways, too.
Not much about the care for hammies..........2000-08-11
This is a very thin book, so there is only a little of everything in it. The section, which is more detailed is the one on the different types of dwarf hamsters. It will not be a good book for first-time dwarf hamsters owners. I will only recommend this to those who are already familiar with dwarf hamsters and want an additional read.
Disappointing.......2000-04-07
This book seems to be lacking general overview information. It's more for breeders than the everyday pet owner.
How to bathe hamsters.......1999-08-03
First, you take a small cloth and make it damp by putting some water on it.After that, you take your hamster out and place it on your palm.use the damp cloth and strok your hamster gentely.
A reader from California.......1999-07-14
This book is very informative for a first time dwarf hampster owner, however it does not tell you waht to do in certain situations for you dwarf hampster. I would suggest this book to someone that is just wanting a dwarf hampster to have as a pet, not as a breeder or showtaker.

BOOK FOR RABBIT HATERS.......2000-08-17
Dear Ms. Ann Marie Barrie, do you actually know anything about rabbits? How much did you get paid for writing invalid pet care guidelines which, if followed, would harm and kill rabbits? But hey, what do *you* care if bunnyrabbits across America suffer liver damage or GI stasis? After all, you do need to cough up the membership fees for the National Alliance of Rabbit Killers and the Rabbit Pogrom Society.
Prospective rabbit book buyer, don't buy this book, get the House Rabbit Handbook instead and go to the House Rabbit Society web site (rabbit.org) for proper pet rabbit care info. Yes, I know, the bunny photos are cute but you can get most of them on the web and in other rabbit publications like the other DK rabbit books and the annual Rabbit magazine.

One Step Foreward, Two Steps Back.......1997-12-23
This thin book has only bare bones information that is now mostly out of date. The photographs have all appeared in several other TFH published books about guinea pigs over the years. For example, photos of red cedar being used as bedding AND cages with wire mesh bottoms are included. It is now known that red cedar is one of the worst bedding materials for guinea pigs, and that wire mesh bottomed cages can often cripple or kill guinea pigs. The best thing going for this book is the CARTOONS! Yes, guinea pigs may seem cartoonish enough, but these dozen or so cartoons will definately make you look at your piggy differently! If you're looking for guinea pig caretaking information, don't look in here. If you collect guinea pig books and want to see something a little different with the cartoons, then step over to it.

Learning to Quilt.......2007-07-31
A great begginers book for those who dont have anyone to teach them. Easy to understand and follow instructions, also heaps of handy hints
The Best Quilt Book.......2007-06-08
I originally bought this book for a quilt club I had joined. The "main" person, who is a seasoned quilter, said it is her all time favorite book. I must agree. I currently have numerous "beginner or easy" quilt book, but this is the one I keep going back to. A must have, in my opinion.
Good basic, book.......2007-03-18
This book is a good, but very simplistic book. It was a good start for me, but once I got the basics down, it wasn't as helpful.
I love this book!.......2006-12-31
I was a clueless teenager when I bought this book and I had never sewed a stitch prior to reading this. All I had was a desire to make quilts. I succesfully made a nice quilt my first time by using this book. I've been making quilts ever since. I have other quilting books, but I have an emotional attachment to this one as this is the one I learned on. I still look at it to this day if I want to make a quickie, but I don't use it that often any more as this just covers the basics and once you have those down you wouldn't need this book. If a teen who has never sewed anything before can successfully make a quilt using this book than anybody can.
Can't say enough great things!!.......2006-08-31
Search no more! I am in the process of taking a quilting class and this is the required reading. I could actually learn to quilt straight from the book, no instructor necessary (and I am a complete novice). It's so simply written and so thorough.

ASIN: 0892367148 |
Book Description
Plants in the Getty's Central Garden is Jim Duggan's sequel to the book Robert Irwin Getty Garden, Lawrence Weschler's account of the making of the Central Garden at the Getty Center in Los Angeles. Designed by contemporary artist Robert Irwin, this "sculpture in the form of a garden aspiring
to be art" draws thousands of visitors each year.
One of the key collaborators who helped Irwin realize his vision, Jim Duggan is, in his own words, a "hands-on gardener." His knowledge and experience were invaluable as Irwin selected the plants that would make up the interwoven "tapestry" of the Central Garden.
This colorful guide brings together informative descriptions of the growing habits and characteristics of nearly four hundred individual plants, with beautiful images by noted garden photographer Becky Cohen. Duggan provides suggestions for cultivating the plants, many of which will be unfamiliar to
gardeners in Southern California. Also included in the book are a foreword by Robert Irwin; three essays by Duggan tracing his involvement with the project; a map of the Central Garden; a plant location guide; and an index of scientific and common names.
Customer Reviews:
great guide to the plants in the garden.......2006-05-15
After visiting the Getty, I had to know more about the plants in that garden. This is a straightforward listing, with pictures, of many of those plants. There is also some information about Robert Irwin's design concepts which I found interesting because I was particularly struck by the color in the garden, which made sense after reading that Irwin is an artist. The only criticism I have of this book is that some of the pictures look nothing like the plants do in real life-- for example some plants that look almost black in the garden are hard to recognize because the small picture doesn't really do them justice. And not all of the plants in the garden are listed here, because they change. Overall though, I found this book very informative and inspiring!

Customer Reviews:
thank you Baby Om...........2007-03-09
Baby Om is a wonderful way to get back on your feet after child birth. Yoga gives my son and I an opportunity to really connect with each other while I get a chance to get my body back in shape again. I really like the fact that the asanas are actually challenging, unlike most other yoga books I have come across. I plan on buying Baby Om for all of my pregnant friends.
Perfect combination and integration!.......2007-02-28
This book is exactly what I was looking for... it offers a great yoga workout in each stage of postpartum recovery and getting back into shape, and it also integrates your infant. A lot of programs are either primarily focused on the infant (and, let's face it, we as new moms are the ones who need the workout and the release that comes with it), or forget the baby altogher having you leave your little one lying next to you (which is impossible once they become mobile). This book combines both and integrates yogic movements with your baby and without, depending on the move, as well as giving tips on infant stimulation throughout the practice. It also teaches different asanas to practice based on the age of your infant. It is the perfect yoga book for new moms!
Excellent for new mothers and yogis.......2006-02-23
This books is a great complement to the yoga pregnancy books. Once you have had your baby you can get back to your practice or start a new yoga practice. The book presents 4 classes for different stages of the baby's growth or mother's ability to move. In general, it is also a good introduction to yoga with basic introductory chapters. I am an expectant mother and yoga teacher trainee. I am planning on using this material as soon as I get certified and start teaching my prenatal and postnatal classes.
Good book for mom.......2005-08-08
I loved this book for postpartum yoga - it has a special section for cesarean moms, which was the reason I bought it. It has series of gradually increasing challenge, which I also like. However, I found it WAY too hard to incorporate my baby at first. Having a c section, it was hard enough to get in and out of the poses. Also, my newbron needs lots of attention and its hard to relax and focus on myself. Maybe this will change with time. Also, in terms of the baby interactions segments of each series, Baby Om was a little demanding of its babies - these sections included a full body massage and several exercise movements all in one sequence, and encouraged the mom to "keep trying" when baby resisted - my baby did not like this. I prefer Itsy Bitsy Yoga for baby yoga, as it gives very useful tips (such as going slow, stopping if baby is unhappy, etc) and offers different poses based on small developmental steps. A great book for moms, especially c section moms, but not the best for baby in my opinion.
Very Complete.......2004-06-01
I found this book to be very complete, with details on body positioning/benefits/etc. for each pose/exercise for you and your baby as well as many variations to make it work for you and your baby. They also included some information on baby massage and a special workout for c-section recovery. Its worth reading a few times before you dive into a workout to choose what you want to do and how you want to do it, rather than read while doing the workout and getting bogged down in all the options.
