When The Purl Stitch came out I bought it right away. I was eager to try something new.Reading the book is as important to me as trying the patterns. The examples are challenging and fun to wear.

Best Instruction Book Ever.......2007-01-10
I took up knitting again after many years. I have purchased many instruction books, but this is by far the GREATEST! Purchase the KNIT Stitch book also and you won't need any other books.
A "Must Have" book for knitters.......2007-01-10
The Knitting Experience: Book 2: The Purl Stitch by Sally Melville is a "must have" book for any knitter. It clearly explains the basics of knitting but expands the experience by allowing the reader to grasp the simple concepts that make complicated knitting projects. The patterns it offers are simple yet elegant. I've been knitting for almost 30 years and I still learned from this book.
Another great book.......2006-11-09
I purchased this book days after I purchased Book 1-The Knit Stitch. I just loved that book, and even though I hadn't completed one project yet, I HAD to have this book.
The title is slightly misleading because unlike the first book in which all the projects are using only the knit stitch, this book opens up an entire new would of stitches because of the combination of stitchs you can now do. I recommend everyone add this book to their library too!
I must admit that there are more projects in the second book that I'm just not as interested in as the first. But that is just my tastes and obviously I wouldn't suggest everyone else would feel the same way. But the instruction in this series is impecable!

Hawthorns and Medlars was the first in our Plant Collector Guide series, published in collaboration with the Royal Horticultural Society. Most hawthorns are vastly underappreciated as ornamental subjects, but given their interesting biology, cultural history, and uses in cookery and folklore, these fascinating trees and shrubs are long overdue their own book. This book focuses on those hawthorns (genus Crataegus) and medlars (genus Mespilus) of greatest interest to horticulturists, some 70 wild species, many of which are seldom cultivated outside botanic gardens or arboreta. A substantial range of ornamental cultivars and the best-known horticulturally created hybrids are also treated, and the author provides detailed information on how to best grow, propagate, and hybridize these plants.

Super Blankie!.......2007-10-09
My 19 month old loves this book. He laughs when we get to the peek-a-boo and then Super Blankie page. The other day I went into his room after his nap and he was busy playing peek-a-boo with his blankie and giggling. This is book that neither of us grow tired of. The humor is just right for a little one and his parent.
Perfect book for your little blankie-holder.......2007-06-29
My 2.75 year-old daughter has had "Ree" the blankie since she was about 12 weeks-old. This book neatly sums up the joys of having a blankie. We love the artwork, easy-to-read font, clever text, and tender understanding of toddlers. I skipped the page about "watching the same shows over and over" for over a year until, surprise, she started to request the same shows over and over. We've just reached the point where forgetting "Ree" on a trip to the store isn't a major tearfest, but we still love this book.
Is your sweetie more into pacifiers? Try Binky (Leslie Patricelli board books) - a gentle accepting story instead of "say bye-bye to your little friend."
My son's current favorite book........2006-12-05
My two year old son just loves this book. He takes it to bed every night and brings it downstairs again every morning. He loves looking at the pictures and tries to tell the story himself. He also has the author's "Yummy Yucky" book. There is something about the baby in these books that is very appealing to my son. I think part of what he likes is that the pages aren't too "busy" like a lot of other board books sometimes are.
Very good concept, except for one very disturbing part.......2006-11-11
My 2 year old daughter LOVES Yummy Yucky so we were eager to try the other books. There are two parts I always skip when I read this book (borrowed from the library, I won't buy it). They are: "Blankie does everything with me... watches the same shows I do (over and over and over), ... and has time outs." There is a drawing of the baby sitting on steps, clutching blankie while crying his eyes out. That is the part that distrubs me. I think toddlers identify with the baby and the scenarios in this book (which is what makes her series wonderful) but I would never put a toddler/baby in a time out, so I don't want her thinking this could happen to her. I know they are popular (especially on nanny TV shows) but they are outdated. They are used as a punishment more often than not (and not supposed to be). I do not encourage daily TV/DVD watching either, so that's why I skip that part. Reading "Endangered Minds: Why Children Don't Think and What We Can Do About It" by Jane Healy really opened my eyes on this subject. Otherwise, a cute book and her favorite part is "Super Blankie!"
Linus Revisited.......2006-07-30
As a board book, the pictures are necessarily a bit small, but Patricelli keeps them as simple as her brief narrative. The book nicely introduces toddlers (and younger) to a variety of settings, including "my school," "the store," " even to the doctor." These are just some of the places where Blankie accompanies the {unnamed) baby protagonist, a real cutie with bright cheeks and a single curly hair.
Blankie is there for the laughter (TV, playing with kitty. a spirited game of PEEK A BOO , jumping onto the bed--Superman like--with Blankies as a cape!), and the tears (time-outs, bedtime), and a conflict here and there: "We (the baby abd his blankie, that is) don't have to play with anybody else (a little girl is shown crying), but sometimes we do (they're both happy). Blankies is a reassuring friend, something that keeps the baby company (even when brushing his teeth), listens to bedtimes stories, and, very important, "isn't afraid of the dark." I like how accepting the book is of the whole Blankie idea, there's no judgement or undertones of "but when will he outgrow it?" Instead it shows Blankie's importance in regulating emotions and offering the reassuring qualities that the child puts into it. I think most people can attest to the help that a "Blankie" or Blankie-like object gave their young child, and that, sooner or later, the boy or girl eventually is less dependent on it.
BUt for ahile, that security blanket is a very important thing:
"I love Kitty."
I love Bear."
I LOVE birthday cake...
but I love Blankie best of all.
And Blankie loves me!
A book almost as cute and lovingly reassuring as a favorite stuffed animal or BLANKIE. 23 sturdy, board-book pages, with bold illustrations done with acrylic, typeset in the new "Leslie Petrocelli" font (this has a nice, slight childlike look, but the ettering is bold an very legible), with illustrations done in acrylic. Simple and enertaining.

... is why it's never seen in any of the other books. That being said, this is another delightful D.W. story.
D.W. badly wants her favorite Blankie, but can't find it. It's gone off-the-map and D.W.'s not going to be able to get to sleep without it. Arthur kindly agrees to help her out by taking her to some places where she might have left it. It's not at any of them, though. Later on, however, D.W. makes a surprising discovery about what happened. Will it change her feelings for Blankie?
I really like the illustrations in this book. I enjoy the pink stripes on D.W.'s outfit in the books (that aren't on the TV show) and this book takes it a step further on the cover by adding a blue speckle pattern to her pink jumpsuit. The story is warm and cute and perfect for any D.W. or Arthur fan.
D.W. is really upset.......2006-10-26
I read "D.W.'s Lost Blankie". In this story D.W. lost her blanket. This story reminds me of when my little sister lost her bunny named Bunny and I gave mine to her. D.W. got upset and everyone helped D.W. look for Blankie. She goes to look at different places in town. D.W. couldn't sleep because Blankie is lost. Her mom opened the door and said "I have a surprise." You should read the book because everybody gets tired of hearing her cry.

very good book...my daughter just turned two and she loves all the arthur & d.w. books! very easy to read and she sits through all of them. got in hardcover but would recommend board book format if it's offered for younger readers!! still loved it.=!
Oh, No... A Lost Blankie!.......2005-07-13
This is not the sort of book that I typically pick out to read to my children (I'm not into 'franchises') but it is the sort of book that my 5 year-old daughter picks up all the time, and guess what? I like this story. (:-)
I like that Arthur is so understanding of D.W.'s loss and sense of urgency. I like that he is helpful without an adult telling him to be. He walks DW to the library and the car wash to see if the errant blankie might be there.
I also like that Arthur helps DW to use *logic* to try to deduce where she might have left the blankie.
Five Stars. These feelings of consideration and warmth are ones that I try to instill in my own children.
Humorous and sympathetic, a great pick.......2004-07-15
Marc Brown's children's series on PBS is priceless; Arthur and his friends were introduced to us that way. It was only recently that I became aware of the books, which actually came first! Well, if you're a fan of the cartoon, you'll love the books even more.
DW's Lost Blankie is a classic kind of story that all kids can relate to - who can't remember the sudden anxiety of losing their own blankie, or some favorite toy when they were very young? This is a short story with a light touch of humor which shows how they can deal with it, offers sympathy and reassurance and helps kids know how they can keep calm and work through tracking down that all important security object. My mom heard me reading it to my kids and laughed out loud at one point, it was so true to life.
Author Marc Brown apparently illustrates his own books. His watercolors are warm, nicely done and perfectly suited to the subject matter. We really like his style in general, so my kids (aged 2 and 5) and I will be selecting more of his stories for our bedtime reading. Highly recommended for all children from early toddlerhood through the primary school years.
