Book Description
A wonderfully illustrated introduction to identifying North American shorebirds: sandpipers, plovers, oystercatchers, turnstones, and dowitchers. Shorebirds offer unique challenges to both beginning and experienced birdwatchers. They're large, forage in the open, and are easy to spot, but their infinitely variable plumage makes them difficult to identify. With beautifully detailed images taken by one of the country's premier bird photographers, this book offers invaluable assistance to those who want to distinguish a yellowlegs from a willet, or a snipe from a dowitcher. It also offers sound advice on how best to observe these fascinating creatures, details on their natural history, and information on how mankind's actions have affected their populations.
Customer Reviews:
Beautiful Pictures and Wonderful Words.......2006-06-18
I truly enjoyed reading this book. The pictures of the shorebirds are fantastic. It is very well written. Morris describes the shorebirds, their behavior and plumage changes very competently. The photographs are of the highest quality and very detailed. It even includes pictures of some shorebird chicks. I didn't expect this quality from an paperback. At $11 it was a bargain.
A fine book by a fine birder,fine photographer and a fine fellow........2006-05-24
This would be a great addition to any bird book library. While it has only 159 pages, it contains wealth of information on all aspects of Shorebirds. The author is an expert birder and a photographer par excellent. He covers identification, plumages & ageing, behavior, feeding & diet, mating & breeding, eggs & young, migration, species accounts, shorebirdinf, more information and a good itemized list of suggested reading.
Then there are the photographs!!!
There are 94 absolutely stunning photographs that are as good as any photographs that you will find anywhere. One can only imagine the years of experience that the author has at his command and the endless patience that went into producing the photographs in this book.
Arthur Morris was a frequent visitor at Pointe Pelee National Park for several years taking photos. He was very friendly to all who approached him .Although I haven't seen him for awhile,I can only assume he is still plying his skills with the birds.
I bought this book from him at Pelee on May 16,1997 and he graciously autographed it and posed with me for a photo.
Hope to see you again ,Arthur.
Good Book with Nice Pictures!.......2005-06-09
Good book that is easy to read with some good descriptions of shorebirds. Very easy to follow and understand...Gives some indepth info but not too much. Pictures are very good, showing some various views of different species. Only thing that would have made this book better would have been range maps that are not included, still a good book and worth the purchase price.

Book Description
For many people, the best part of the winter holidays is the anticipation: planning the perfect gifts, decorating the house, looking forward to seeing family and friends. Holidays can be particularly special for knitters, whose preparations often start months in advance and involve their own creations. In Handknit Holidays best-selling knitting author Melanie Falick presents an eclectic collection of more than 50 original gifts, decorations, and clothing pieces for Christmas, Hanukkah, and the winter solstice, providing year-round inspiration for knitters of all levels.
Created by top knitwear designers, the projects include colorful ornaments; funky and classic Christmas stockings; a wire-and-bead menorah; sparkly ribbon scarves; a poncho and matching dog sweater; and a range of super-quick projects for that last-minute holiday rush, from a Santa hat, to elf caps, to flower pins. Rounding out the volume are a few grand projects-an Aran tree skirt, a patchwork afghan, a lace shawl-destined to become family heirlooms, plus features on such topics as the origin of the Christmas stocking, the meaning of the winter solstice, knitting for charities, strategies for finishing holiday knitting (on schedule!), and even a delicious recipe for festive crescent cookies.
Beautifully photographed by Susan Pittard, Handknit Holidays is a creative celebration of the holiday season and a treasure for all knitters who seek to bring more of their own handwork-and artistry-into their daily lives and their holiday festivities.
Customer Reviews:
THIS BOOK ROCKS!!!.......2007-09-21
I love this book. The variety of patterns in this book are great. I can't wait to start knitting Christmas presents. I plan on making the ruffle scarf first.
BUY THIS BOOK.......2007-08-24
For some reason the cover of this book just turns me off. I wasn't interested in it forever. Until of course, I was at a bookstore thumbing through it. I had to buy it. There are some fantastic knits in there. The Santa hat is a MUST make. I plan to do it for this holiday. There are also lovely, strange and totally enticing sweaters, socks and such. The patterns also seem to pass the gamut of easy to quiet difficult and there is a section on gifts, knitted gift packaging and bows.
Superstar book!.......2007-01-07
This is a beautiful book, more than a useful book. I haven't made anything from it yet, and I don't know whether the patterns are faulty or unclear -- but the photographs sure are gorgeous!! Some of the patterns I am sure I will never make (like some of the hats, specifically), but the inspiration is wonderful! It makes me eager for the holiday season.
Inspiring.......2007-01-03
Very inspiring. The beautiful photography and selection of projects makes the reader feel all are possible.
Holiday Knitting Looks Enticing.......2006-11-05
I loved browsing through this book and planning my holiday gift knitting. I wish I had bought it in the summer so I would have had more time to make some of the lovely projects in the book. Lots of great ideas...some easy...some challenging. J.M.

Strong is the urge to write one's life story as a keepsake for oneself and one's family. The difficulty is knowing where to start, and then where to go from there. Carl and David Marshall, a grandfather-grandson team, have created a fine and fun do-it-yourself autobiography. The cover of the journal-sized Book of Myself is intended to resemble handmade paper; the inside pages have the yellowed hue of a keepsake found in a musty attic trunk. The book is not especially pretty. But the questions--one per page, divided into early, middle, and late years, and then again into sections concerning family, friends, education, work and responsibilities, and the world--are good enough that it hardly matters. Among the 201 jumping-off points included here are questions concerning childhood toys, crushes, and forbidden exploits; adult embarrassments, betrayals, and achievements; and how one's views change over the years. --Jane Steinberg

Bought one for Mom and Daughter.......2007-09-06
After purchasing this book for myself, I bought one for my Mother and Daughter. What a great journal of your life and thoughts!
If you have the time.......2007-07-23
My husband and I bought these to fill out together, but it's not really like that. They are in depth answers that require thought. Perfect for self reflection if you have a lot of time to write. Good thought provoking questions.
get to know yourself with this.......2007-03-19
Great tool to get to know yourself and for others to get to know you
Great gift for parents.......2006-12-07
I gave this book to my father many years ago, and had completely forgotten about it. He recently passed away and, when going through his things, I found the book. He had completed it. I cannot tell you how wonderful it was to have his words and thoughts in writing, many of those words and thoughts quite new to me! My brothers and I will treasure this book forever...once a gift to him, now a gift to us.
This book is a hit with my mother and relatives!.......2006-04-16
For my mother's 60th birthday, she told me she'd like to reflect on her life thus far. I'd seen books of this nature, in which the reader can fill out question to create an easy autobiography. After using reading lots of different reviews on these types of books, The Book of Myself stood out with the best ratings. I bought the book from another bookstore, and from just skimming through the book I loved its questions. Finally, I presented it to my mother at her birthday dinner. She beamed with excitement when I explained the nature of the book, and she repeatedly said it's just what she wanted. After the dinner, she immediately called her sisters and told them about the book. They said they would like one for a christmas present, and eventually have all their siblings fill out the book. In light of other deaths in the family, my elders were seeking ways to preserve their memories. They're looking forward to discussing the questions as a group, and recalling all the chapters of their lives. Also, my mom told her co-worker about the book, who in turn wanted one for herself! "You see," my mother said, "this book you gave me is really taking off."
I love seeing my mother's enthusiasm for the book, and she informs me of her progress in filling it out. She decided to type her answers to the questions, and she's saving her answers on a keepsake CD. My father and aunts will be doing the same, and we anticipate having a memory box full of these books and autobiography CDs! Overall, I'm so blessed to have stumbled upon this book, it seems like it's becoming an integral part of preserving family memories.
Book Description
This is a gentle and effective workbook and guide to Healing the Child Within. It can be used with or without having already read Healing the Child Within. Using numerous experiential exercises that the reader can do at their own pace, physician and author Charles Whitfield takes us on a healing journey into our inner and outer life. Once a reader starts this book, the healing process begins -- even if they rarely do any of its exercises. One of the highlights of this book is the clear description of age regression, one of the most crucial concepts in healing and recovery.
Customer Reviews:
Much help in my recovery.......2006-12-26
I found it the best next step after I read Healing the Child Within
A clear overview of the steps to healing and more complete than most books on healing.
Great bedtime read.......2005-10-23
Use this one to put yourself to sleep; it's sappy and really doesn't provide the substance that merits the title...
Must Have With Companion Book.......2005-08-05
This simple workbook takes 3-5 years to work through in order to arrive at a point where one will recognize who they truly are in the big and little picture called life. Absolutely required if one seriously is on a journey of discovery and is prepared to take steps to wholeness. This workbook will not make much sense unless using it in conjunction with the parent book Healing the Child Within.
Great Ally.......2005-07-24
This book is a godsend for clients who are working on severe trauma issues. It is respectful of the pace and nature of the work. Client safety and security in the here and now are primary. The book provides many tools and practical exercises that promote recovery. As a therapist, I find it is a great professional ally as I work with clients who struggle to heal and change after enduring profound abuse, neglect, and trauma.
I suggest that therapists first read this book and encourage clients to work through it in the recommended three to five years along with regular therapy.
Lacking in content.......2005-02-07
I'm not sure about this writer's grasp of subject matter, but I feel the best "Gift To Myself" would be putting my copy of this book on half.com
Book Description
My intent in writing this book is to suggest another avenue for those looking for true love. The Bachelorette, Joe Millionaire, dating ads, dating dot com, and the like, may work for some people but not for everyone. The alternative I'm suggesting in this book is to get God involved: having Him play a vital role in bringing you into a relationship with that perfect person-probably someone you may not have on your radar screen. Since God is in the "giving" business (and giving only His very best), why not "give" Him a try! (If He can make a universe, I'm positive He is able to 'make" you that perfect mate.)
Customer Reviews:

I COULD RELATE TO THE AUTHOR'S EXPERIENCE AND I APPLIED ALL THE POSITIVE ADVICE TO MY LIFE. I SHARED THE BOOK WITH FAMILY, FRIENDS AND CO-WORKERS WHO ENJOYED READING IT ALSO. I KNOW GOD SENT MILLICENT INTO MY LIFE SO I COULD READ HER BOOK. AGAIN IT WAS "AWESOME"!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Customer Reviews:
Excellent book.......2004-01-14
Lots of kid appeal!
Have the entire series, once thought I lost the set in a move so bought the entire set again. Wouldn't want to try to teach my kids or any other to sew with out them.
Simple projects, lots of fun games to play, kid tested and mom approved.
Books evolved out of teaching real children to sew ... real kids helped make book become a reality for these ever popular authors. Great for anyone wanting to learn how to sew even if only young at heart.
