Dianne's writing style is wonderfully engaging and she tellssome great tales about her adventures returning pets to their homes.The only thing wrong about this wonderful collection of stories is that it's TOO SHORT! Dianne does so much terrific work with rescues as well as returning pets to their homes, I can't wait to read her next book!

This book is a "must read" for all pet lovers........1999-08-23

This book is satisfying in many different ways.

Most of the stories involve work done by animal shelter workers. To those of us in the animal care profession they are an affirmation that what we do really does make a difference; we need these positive stories to help us counteract all the negative situations that involve us on a daily basis. Those outside the profession can gain important insights into just how dedicated and committed shelter workers (both paid and volunteer) can be to reuniting pets with their owners. The job is much more than scooping poop and doing paper work. Anyone who cares about animals or has ever had a special, loving relationship with a pet will enjoy and identify with the people in the stories. It sounds trite to say so, but animal lovers will indeed find the stories heartwarming, and anyone with a sense of humor will appreciate the author's wit and way with words.

It's hard to pick a favorite out of the 16 stories. Each is touching and interesting in a different way, and every one of them tells about a pet that the reader would like to know. Perhaps the best thing about all of them is that they have happy endings. This isn't a book that glosses over the difficult times encountered by each pet owner (as well as the animals themselves), but each animal does find its way home! The author is to be commended for telling stories filled with sentiment that still manage not to be sentimental.

Dianne Armstrong has devoted all her energies not dedicated to working full time as a nurse in an obstetrical ward to making sure every animal has a shot at a decent life. "Home Again, Home Again, Jiggety Jig" is a collection of heartwarming tales about reunions of pets with their people as well as a couple of ones about pets that did just plain exasperatingly silly things that landed them in situations beyond their wildest notions far way from those who loved them. While it seems like a book of stories about animals and their escapades, it is really a window into our own human natures. We see our dark side when we learn how some of these animals got treated or how others found them so easy to discard. Then again, we get to bask in the joy of seeing a dog or a cat be reunited with the people who love them and missed them so greatly and who are prepared to go to the ends of the earth to make sure a separation never happens again.

My only frustration with this book is that it is so short. I could read stories like this for weeks. Dianne, give us some more?

Wonderful tool for starting out.......2007-10-07

This book is great! I signed with my older daughter, but wanted to do so more extensively with my younger daughter. This book has helped me more than any other of the signing books I've used. I've been able to learn the signs in a logical order and build on what I already knew. I can't wait to see how my younger daughter fares since I know so many more signs this time around. I would recommend this to anyone who wants an easy to use guide on signing with their baby.

BEST book I have found for teaching basic sign language to your baby!.......2007-09-30

This book is amazing. It is very well written, easy to understand and there are helpful graphics to go with each sign. I like how the book is sectioned out into the types of signs, such as basic needs (our favourite). I cannot explain just how awesome it has been to communicate with our infant. My daughter started signing "milk" at 7 months, and "more" and "all done" a few weeks and a month later, respectively. Thank you, Monica, for providing this incredible resource for families. Because of the signs we have taught her, my daughter never, ever has to cry to tell us what she needs.

I just bought this book recently and am very satisfied with my purchase. Not only does it have great common word signs to teach your little one, there are sections with suggestions about how and when to teach them. The pictures are very cute and my son loves them.
It is just all around a great book!

Baby sign language.......2007-06-11

This book is full of good annecdotes and great tips. If you had any doubts about signing to your baby, this book will get rid of them. It is very encouraging and also very logical. Would definitely recommend.

Nice book but VERY brief.......2007-06-08

I'm surprised by all the high ratings. This is a nice little book, but there are very very few signs. It's supposed to be a basic book but I still think it's way too light on signs. For the same price range, there are much more comprehensive books out there. Since we're essentially talking about learning a new language, a mere couple of dozen of signs doesn't really cut it. It'll get you started but you'll need to buy another book later.

Great kit for beginners!.......2007-07-14

I love this kit. My baby just turned 6 months old, and we are beginning to sign to her (she already recognizes milk). The flash cards are very easy to understand. My 10 year old memorized all the signs from the flash cards in a day, and loves teaching them to us. The CD is great, too. The music is very enjoyable, and the songs are simple, but very catchy; you won't get bored after listening to them several times. I love the songbook, too. It makes it SO easy to sign during the songs because you're not signing every single word. The sturdy cardboard box is a plus. The only reason I gave four stars instead of 5 is that there are two songs with "Mommy and Daddy" in them, and we all know there are many "non-traditional" families out there, and it would have been nice (and pretty easy, I think) to have words that include all children's families. Other than that, it's wonderful.

LOVE THIS KIT!.......2007-07-05

I have been signing with my kids for 5 years now--and my kids now are 5, 3, and 1. I was looking for songs to use with signing besides the basic basics..and this book has it all. My 5 and 3 year old LOVE singing and signing the songs with me, and my 1 year old tries to sign along. My 3 year old will just start singing the songs on the cd so I see the songs as easy to remember, fun and appealing to kids. I see this as a GREAT activity to do in the car on trips and a wonderful way have fun together as a family. We have gotten through half the songs and I am saving the rest for our next trip! The signs are easy to figure out from the pictures and its just fabulous! I listened to Monta speak once and she is fabulous too! Definitely a great kit for moms that want to sign with their babies and toddlers. The cd is the best as well to add the music and fun into the whole experience! Definitely a great buy!

A Multi-wonderful product!.......2007-06-05

First of all, this kit is so complete. It's fun and easy to use. It comes with a great CD with beautiful and easy songs to pick up and sign to. It has a book of signs just for the songs. Then, it has great flash cards that are really easy to understand. And finally, it contains a main book of all kinds of signs which I've misplaced do to a move, but of what I remember, it was loaded with info and easy to decipher. I use the signs all the time and sing the songs and she always smiles in reconition when I do. She hasn't signed back yet, but hopefully one day I'll get my reward. If you want to teach your child to sign, this is a fun and easy place to start. It also has a great free website in it that you can refer to. I really enjoy using the kit and would give it a higher rating, but I misplaced the main book before I could use it and so I can't properly rate the entire kit, plus I don't know yet if it works.

excellent baby sign language kit!.......2007-02-06

This kit is great!!! It comes with a song book thats shows the signs and words to the accompanying Music cd. And it has an activty book that gives tons of simple games and activities for mom & baby. There is also a set of flashcard/picures with a picture of a real object on one side and the sign on the other side. All of this comes in a sturdy storage box. I can't wait to give this as a baby gift!

One kit does it all.......2007-01-29

This kit is fabulous. There is a song book that goes with the CD so you don't have to flip through the bigger book to find the words and signs. The larger book is a great reference for signs and activities to remember them. The flashcards are awesome, they have a color picture of the object on one side and then the word and sign on the other. The child learns sign language and how to read at the same time. Everyone in my sign language play group wants one after I brought it to play group last week. The other moms quickly picked up the songs and we were having a ball in no time with our infants.

Great Little Book; Quick Read.......2007-10-04

This book gives a great overview and intro. to baby sign language basics.

Our daughter is now 14 months and we've started using signs when she was around 6 months old. She now signs about 40 words! Besides the practical aspects of being able to meet her needs more effectively, it is a HUGE gift to be able to get to know her better at such a young age. Because she has a vocabulary that she can use, we get to 'hear' what is on her mind (babies, butterflies, dogs, ceiling fans,etc.) on a daily basis. How cool is that?!

I recommend that everyone give it a try. Giving your baby 'words' before they are ready to speak verbally, is an amazing gift.

Perfectly Portable, Signing Starter.......2007-09-07

I think this is the very best introduction to Baby Signing that I could have asked for. It is relatively inexpensive, highly portable and chock full of good information.

It includes a good introduction to the whys and wherefors of Signing with your Baby. Monta Briant gives good background information, as well as good references for further research and Signs. This book covers some excercises, ok games, to help get you and your baby in the habit. These also help one to remember to keep it fun, because it is. This little book also includes, of course, 60 Signs that one is most likely to need or want to use early on.

Since I got this book for myself, I have given it to everyone I know when they have a baby. (The recommended age to start signing is about 6 months.)

This stuff really works! It helps bridge the language barrier between my little one until he learns how to fully communicate. Easy to throw in diaper bag. GREAT for Zoo trips. I was able to explain the animals names and sign as we went. He was much more able to sign back his experiences instead of just noises he heard the animals make.

When I purchased the book, I expected my daughter to communicate and express herself with baby words than with her hands. Later, I found that the book could be helpful if the child has hearing problems. So, instead I just focused on to teaching her to speak with words which would have been delayed if she would have started only using her hands first.
