Decent.......2001-06-23
A fair book that seems to have been written back when scuba was in it's infancy. Not a real species specific book but if your looking for a general book on this topic it's worth the 9 bucks.
Book Description
An encore collection in The Sock Calendar book series. Here again is your favorite journal with sock patterns for each month of the year and something for everyone!
Customer Reviews:
Not for the directionally challanged.......2006-12-31
I really do like this book (and the Sock Calendar) but disagree with one thing. These patterns skip a few of the beginning steps so if you need step by step directions from beginning to end, and plan to attempt these patterns without an experienced knitter nearby, access to the internet or a good library you may get stuck.
Love these books.......2004-12-07
I bought The Sock Calendar because it was so handsome and then decided to learn to knit the socks as well. The patterns are very easy to follow and I can't keep up with friends' requests for hand knitted socks. The Sock Journal is even better as the author included beaded knitting and more optional variations in the patterns. And a very useful writeup for yarn substitutions.
Beautiful knitting patterns & writer's journal.......2004-09-17
I love these patterns for beautiful and unusual hand-knitted socks. I'm a new knitter and haven't yet made socks but read so much about the designers earlier book The Sock Calendar. Then saw this new one and had to get it.
The patterns are very easy to read and follow even for a beginner. The colorful photos are pretty as can be. I highly recommend this book to anyone knitter and especially to people who are into the new craze of knitting socks.

I Did It!.......2007-09-27
The thought of knitting a sock has always scared me, but finally I decided it was a mountain I had to climb. So I bought this book, sight unseen, & Schurch's Sensational Knitted Socks. Between the two of them, I knitted a sock!! A real sock. Me!! I wish I could say that I bought two books but could have managed with just one of them, but I about wore BOTH of them out going back & forth for clarity. Perhaps I am just dense, but if you are also afraid of trying a sock, it can't hurt to invest in both of them.
I really knitted a pair of socks!.......2007-08-19
For some reason I am fascinated with knitting socks. This book provided me with the basics of how to knit socks and the techniques used for such an endeavor. The instructions are well-written and easy to follow. For me, this book has been a terrific "how-to" for sock-knitting.
Book Description
Warm your heart as well as your soles with these soft, cozy, playful designer socks. Complete sock knitting lessons are presented along with 12 designs for women, ranging from classic to fanciful.

Learn to Knit Socks Review.......2007-10-05
This is more of a pamphlet than a book, but the instructions are excellent and better than an actual book I had previously purchased. This is easy to carry with your sock project. Received quickly. I love knitting socks!
Learn To Knit Socks.......2007-07-26
Great book, I just couldn't understand how to make the heel and the gusset, but I followed the step by step instructions, and now I have my first pair of knitted socks! I'm so thrilled.
Made knitting socks much easier than I thought they'd be.......2007-07-18
What a great book! I like how simple and straightforward the instructions are. I always preferred crochet to knitting for speed, but my first sock went pretty quickly, and I'm looking forward to picking out some more yarn and making another pair.
I think it would also be easy to teach someone how to knit socks using this book.
The only problems I had bookwise were knowing when to quit adding onto the length of the basic sock (include the heel in the measurement of the length of the foot), and was that the pattern for 7 1/2, which I didn't know until after I bought it. I have size 8 1/2 - 9 feet.
Short of that, it's a great instruction book, at a great price for my budget. My thanks to Ms. Eckman!
Makes sock knitting easy!.......2007-04-19
This book takes the mystery out of knitting socks; the instructions are clear and easy to follow. The patterns are cute, and are easily altered once the basics are mastered
Great book.......2006-11-23
I love to knit, and learned to knit socks from this book. I found the instructions easy to follow. I love it so much I have to buy a second copy because I lost the first:-(
Book Description
Anyone who's ever picked up a set of needles thinks about knitting a pair of socks.
Continuing Storey's popular die-cut Knit! series, Knit Socks! offers 15 one-of-a-kind patterns that keep feet toasty warm while making a cool fashion statement. Betsy McCarthy--a nationally renowned knitting teacher and designer of simple, innovative knitwear patterns--recommends which types of yarn to use (wool and wool blends hold the sock's shape best), and discusses the types of needles suitable for knitters of varying levels of skill (wooden or bamboo for beginners who knit more slowly, metal for speedy, experienced knitters). And McCarthy's tips on working "in the round" using five needles will benefit even people who have knitted for years.
The friendly, step-by-step instructions and color-coded charts make Knit Socks! perfect for knitters of all skill levels.
Customer Reviews:
Knitting your first pair of socks.......2007-07-21
Like many knitters, I can successfully follow well-written directions. I had even knit socks, but only by slavishly following a pattern; I didn't KNOW HOW to knit socks.
This little book deconstructs the process and can give you the skills you need to really know what you are doing. The patterns are varied and interesting, using five-needle directions which makes the process clearer for the beginning sock knitter.
While I do recommend the book, there are a few provisos:
* The beginner will need to do a bit of leafing back and forth. For example, picking up gusset stitches and kitchenering are covered very well, but not, of course, with the individual patterns. One good primer sock pattern with these techniques incorporated as you need them would make a smoother flow -- and then you'd KNOW HOW to knit a sock.
* Once you KNOW HOW to knit socks, the patterns are written with more detail than you need and you'll probably need to condense them for convenience.
* There are several patterns from worsted or doubled sock yarn. In my experience, at least in my climate, these thicker socks are of limited appeal. People want fingering-weight socks to wear inside regular shoes.
All that said, this is a handy, sturdy book that can launch a happy career of sock knitting. It worked for me!
So Far, So Good.......2007-07-18
I just recently purchased this book after teaching myself to knit less than a month before. I really wanted to be able to knit socks and was obviously wanting to jump right in. I decided to get this book after reading other reviews here and I have to say that this book was a good choice for me. The directions are very clear and I am already halfway through my first pair of socks. I decided to make both socks at the same time so I haven't actually gotten to my first heel turn, but so far the directions have been so clear that I'm not really afraid of when I get to that point. I really like that the author first takes you through the different parts of the sock and has even knitted a sock in different colors to demonstrate the different parts. I also like that this books goes from very easy to progressively more difficult socks. There are about 20 (sorry I don't have the book in front of me at the moment) socks shown in this book, so I'm sure that I will be using it for a long time.
Great Book for Beginner Sock Knitter.......2007-06-13
I am a beginner sock knitter and love this book. I personally would of liked a few more pictures to show what the author is talking about but was able to fairly easily figure it out. It's a good book for beginners and very easy to follow. Very nicely detailed. I'm glad I bought the book. Very worth while.
no nonsense knitting.......2007-06-07
I have made three of the designs. that says it all.
Easy to use.......2007-05-30
This book is well layed out and easy to use. It has the steps logically explained in easy to read groupings. Plus the multi sizes per stick pattern and nice photos are a another bonus. I highly recommend this one!
Product Description

Customer Reviews:
I finally get it!.......2007-09-30
After many attempts at knitting socks, I finally get it! This book has stayed at my side while knitting my first "pair" of socks. As a matter of fact, I have them on right now and have 2 more pair on needles.
The instructions, photo's and description of each part of a sock are right on. I was fortunate enough to have taken one of Antje's sock classes in her shop and can tell you this book is a must! It makes knitting two socks at one time a breeze.
While I have only been knitting for 3 years or so, I have always wanted to make socks only to end up with one as I used double pointed needles.
I am so glad I found her shop and the book. Thanks for sharing!
A fun learning experience.......2007-09-28
Since I have done socks on doublepoints before, I decided to start with the "Anne" pattern and fingering weight sock yarn instead of the worsted weight wool recommended for first attempts. I figured I could just take the numbers from Anne and drop it into the basic pattern instructions as I went along. It worked beautifully!
The instructions in the basic pattern are very detailed and easy to understand and follow. And thank you for taking the time to add many pictures to the directions as I am more of a visual learner!
I also like the various patterns in this book because they show how to work this technique with cables and lace, and they are not too complicated to practice with. I've started working on the fixation/lace pattern and it's very pretty...I keep trying one sock on! ;)
Next I am going to use one of my favorite "regular" patterns and convert it to the circular needles. Hopefully it will be as easy to understand as the rest of the book is. I really enjoyed adding this book to my knitting library.
Knitting in Circles.......2007-09-15
The illustrations of the method was excellent. The patterns included were very simple and not very interesting or attractive.
2 at a time.......2007-09-14
I do like this book. I have not had time to try patterns but it is very well written and directions are good.
Good-bye repeat sock knitting!.......2007-09-01
I reallly enjoy sock knitting, but everytime I get close to finishing the first sock, I already dread having to knit the second one. I've tried the Magic Loop technique and it's okay but...not my favorite. When I saw this book and realized that I could knit two socks at the same time, I got pretty excited, especially since I've heard mention of this technique before. I was happy to discover the book since I've been too lazy in the past to research it.
Got my copy yesterday and went to work right away. The instructions are very detailed and along with excellent photos and drawings, Ms. Gillingham makes it pretty easy. I also loved the anatomy of the sock. It cleared up some of my confusion from previous projects. So far with the easy to follow directions in this book, I feel that I will be able to master this technique fairly quickly. I cast on my socks this afternoon and am already done with the cuffs, now working on the leg. I love it! Thank you for writing this book and sharing the technique with the rest of us sock knitters.

Cool Sock Patterns..........2007-09-30
....but not ideal for someone new to knitting socks. As a first-time sock knitter, I found the patterns confusing, and had to find videos explaining how to turn the heel, pick up stitches, etc. For someone who knows their way around knitting/crocheting socks, however, this book has some really cute patterns!
Product Description

What I liked & disliked about Open Days Directory Guide.......2000-03-30
This is actually a great book for people who like to take short road trips and visit gardens in their area. It's basically a listing of "open houses" in people's private gardens. I like the fact that so many garden owners/enthusiasts are sharing their talents in gardening with the public. The book offers a description of each of the gardens, plus drivng directions, and the dates/times that the "open house" will be going on. It also lists tips on how to be polite when visiting the gardens. One thing I did not know when I purchased this book is that it does not have any pictures! So one must make the trip out to see for oneself and only on the days that are listed in the guidebook. No, you can't go just any time!

Customer Reviews:
Very good for ministers and missionaries .......2007-07-12
I sat by one of the authors, Alice Brawand, on a plane, and she was such a facinating lady that I looked her up when I got home. She had worked in Guatamala as a linguist with the Rabinal-Achi' people for about 12 years translating the Bible into their language, along with her husband John. She is the daughter and wife of a minister, as well as a veteran of the mission field. She also has a Master's in Social Work and Counseling, I believe. The book was very eye-opening and helpful.
Secrets of Your Family Tree: Healing for Adult Children of Dysfunctional Families .......2007-01-12
Everyone will benefit from this book, but especially those involved in helping professions. Not only can you use it in your work, but it will help you see why YOU tick like you do! Written from a Christian perspective with Biblical examples.
Very Informative!.......2006-11-02
I found this book very helpful, explaining how things went wrong within the family, and
steps to take to heal and move forward.
You will find your famly in the book! .......2006-10-05
There is little doubt that most people will recognize their own families in this book since no family is perfect and most are truly dysfunctional to some degree. This book has a good spiritual approach to looking at family life.
I use it as a part-time minister to give me insights on famlies and their issues. I think everyone can get something of great value out of reading this book. I highly recommend it along with the whole series of books offered as a part of the Minirth-Meier Healing series.
Secrets of Your Family Tree.......2002-01-10
Secrets of Your Family Tree was worth every dime and more. A person could not possibly put a price on the invaluable information that this book provides its readers. Some especially good points in the book are: "Time does NOT 'heal all wounds' when it comes to family issues; If we have only experienced a family that keeps everything secret, that is how we will naturally conduct our own family." My favorite chapters are the first three since they go through the roots of dsyfunctional families and provide an in-your-face look at how they operate under different circumstances. Included are "questions for reflection" throughout the book and a helpful appendix of resources on "Where ACDFs Can Find Help." Lastly, one thing to keep in mind is that this book is Christian-based, and every page has a biblical reference. I highly recommend it for anyone who has a strong and serious desire to educate themselves and start or greatly influence the healing process.
