Customer Reviews:
AT LAST!!.......2007-08-15
I decided to give digital scrapping a try, but after attempting to approach it via trying to understanding Photoshop Elements 4, I was plowed under by techno-babble and almost gave up. Next I tried to find some tutorials online that were well-written or clearly-presented and easy to understand. Generally speaking, forget it. Thankfully I happened upon this book. Let me just say that any fool (even one as digi-clueless as I am) can jump into digital scrapping with Renee Pearson holding your hand. The book's clearly written. It's helpfully illustrated. It's methodically laid out. In short, YOU CAN UNDERSTAND WHAT THE HECK SHE'S TALKING ABOUT!
OK if you have Adobe Photoshop Elements 3.0.......2007-05-07
I purchased this book thinking it was a good introduction into digital scrapbooking. It seems like a nicely laid out book, but it is only for Adobe Photoshop Elements 3.0 users. There is a trial version of PSE 3.0 on the included CD, but PSE 3.0 is no longer available to buy anywhere. So although the layouts look nice and the included CD has a lot of goodies on it, I was looking for something that could give me a better overview of all the various softwares people use for digital scrapbooking, rather than a primer for Elements 3.0.
Great Product.......2007-03-13
This is a great product for anyone sho wants to do digital scrapbooking.
Very Much Worth It..........2007-03-12
I bought this book at a scrapbook store and paid lots more than $14. Renee Pearson does a great job of explaining things without boring you repeating or going so fast you can't figure out step 1 to step 2. Each chapter assumes you remember the previous step (which saves me from those boring reviews). The books and pages I ended up with were great, and it's easy to take the techniques and do even more with them. Go Renee!
Love the templates.......2007-02-08
I really liked getting the templates on the disc that came with the book.
Makes pumping some quick pages out really easy.
Book Description
With the explosion of digital cameras and the wealth of accompanying digital images, digital scrapbooking has emerged as an activity that brings people together to tell their stories, preserve their memories, and perhaps share a little gossip over the act of creating digital scrapbooks. Here to help you do so with creativity and panache is one of the first books on the topic from veteran technology and lifestyle writer
Katherine Murray. Using a combination of friendly how-to instruction, full-color illustrations and examples, personal anecdotes, and a grab-bag of creative tips, this high-energy volume takes you through each of the steps in creating a digital scrapbook--from planning and capturing quality photos to choosing fonts, collecting clip art, telling the story, laying out pages, sharing the scrapbook, enhancing it with video, and more. Also included are a resources appendix and a guide to scrapbook-friendly hardware and software.
Customer Reviews:
Hard to hold but can be useful.......2005-09-12
Book is published in square format, hard to hold to read but book fulfills the stated purpose of focusing on digital scrapbooking. If you have purchased Jasc products such as Paint Shop Pro then the "how-to's" are useful. If you are using different image editing software, the principles are the same but not the details. Book includes mini-interviews with many of the well known & published experts of the scrapbooking world. With reference to various products, book felt a bit commercial. Author clearly is an expert and shares her expertise with novices.
Perfect for Beginners.......2005-01-30
This book was great for me because I am a beginner, and I needed step-by-step instructions. It was easy to understand- not too wordy. This book is a must-buy for people interested in starting digital scrapbooking.
publish on the Internet.......2004-11-25
Once, scrapbooking was a totally low tech hobby. No computers in sight. But Murray tells what massive cheap disks and RAM and scanners, and fast CPUs and high bandwidth have done to create a digital version of the hobby.
You can regard the book as a long exposition of how to use Paint Shop Pro in a domestic context. The example images that she provides are often of family events. She writes in a reassuring, nontechnical manner for you. The key tips she supplies are not really about a sequence of steps in Paint Shop to achieve a desired effect. These are of secondary importance. Instead, she writes about what makes a great image. How you should capture what inspires you or your family. The advice is timeless and could have been given about a traditional scrapbook.
The main qualitative difference now is in how you can publish your scrapbook on the Internet, so others can enjoy your work. One of the main drivers of the hobby's growth.
A Much Better Way to Save Pictures.......2004-10-29
When the baby was born we took about a roll of pictures a day. That was a long time ago, and the pictures were slides. Now I go look at the slides and the glue has come off, the slides are peeling apart and they tend to stick in the projector.
Digital cameras are probably worse. You've got to get the image out of the camera so you can take more pictures. You can keep them in some kind of digital storage, like on your hard drive - until it crashes or you upgrade the computer. Better is to produce a scrapbook that you can print out, pass along to the kids, keep in a file, and look it the pictures together.
Producing a scrapbook is an interesting project in its own right - if nothing else you get to go look at the pictures again. But you really get to put the story together. The result can be quite attractive, especially if you use some of the special papers and other things that are available.
This book is a how-to, a tutorial on putting the scrapbooks together. It is an introductory level book talking about the first plans through final production. The format doesn't lend itself to being a reference book, but by the time you're finished your first scrapbook or two, you probably won't need a reference book.
Jumpstart Your Creativity.......2004-10-22
This book is not just about scrapbooking on your computer. It is also great for creative inspiration. Unlike other books about digital scrapbooking the author, Katherine Murray, has included many useful ideas, tips and checklists that will jumpstart your creativity. This is not to say that the book does not thoroughly cover digital scrapbooking. Throughout the book Murray has numerous step-by-step examples of everything from creating digital background papers for your scrapbook pages to making a slide show of your finished scrapbook.
Before you even turn on your computer, Murray discusses the planning of your scrapbook. She helps you decide on a theme and style based on the story you want to tell. To help you, Murray has included a Digital Scrapbook Project Plan worksheet. Next, she covers what tools you will need for your digital workshop area. She talks about features to look for when choosing image editing software. Although she discusses this in a general context, most of the step-by-step examples in the book are for Jasc Paint Shop Pro.
Now that you have a plan for your scrapbook, Murray begins to explore page design. She discusses the use of color and how to choose a main, secondary and accent color for your pages. There is a step-by-step example of adding digital texture to a background paper.
Next, you are ready for your photos. Murray discusses digital photography and digital cameras. She offers good tips for photo taking and discusses organizing photos on your computer. Fixing and enhancing photos is a dominant feature of digital scrapbooking and Murray gives many step-by-step examples. She demonstrates how to resize and crop your photos and how to correct contrast, color and red eye.
Text and journaling is the next step in designing your page. Murray discusses choosing a font that will compliment your theme. She tells you where to find freeware and shareware fonts and how to install the fonts. She also covers the creative aspects of journaling. She has many inspirational ideas and writing tips.
Murray talks about how to use pre-made embellishments and how to make your own digital embellishments. She discusses thoroughly how to scan everyday objects and turn them into embellishments with Paint Shop Pro. She also covers other resources for embellishments such as clipart and stickers.
Sharing your scrapbook pages with others is another dominant feature of digital scrapbooking. Murray demonstrates step-by-step how to prepare your pages for email, CD, print and the web. But before you push the Print button, Murray helps you to evaluate your pages using her Page Layout Checklist and Page Rating Checklist.
The last part of the book is about archiving your photos and scrapbook pages with Jasc Paint Shop Photo Album and Adobe Photoshop Album. She shows you how to use keywords to organize and archived images. There is also an extensive resource section at the back of the book.
Katherine Murray is the author of many how-to books on digital photography, computers and many other subjects. She lives in Indianapolis, Indiana.

All the basics.......2005-10-29
It was the book I was looking for. Contains a significant amount of helpful information. In particular, the information on which items complement eachother in the growing cycle. I would definately recommend it for the home gardener.
Not Cold Climate Gardening.......2003-01-03
Zone 5 is not cold climate gardening! Book is a waste for those who truly live in cold climates.

A nice memory for your child.......2007-06-28
So much more than a baby book. I loved filling out stories of myself as a child, my husband, our parents and even our grandparents. What a wonderful thing to do for your child.
Beautiful Keepsake.......2007-05-10
I was very impressed when I got this in the mail last week. I bought it as a mothers day gift for my mom to fill it out and pass on her memories to me and so on. It's a nice spiral bound journal with 2 family trees (one for mom's info and one for dad's info), many pages of questions, space for favorite photo's, space in the back for "things I wanted to share."
This would really be a great gift for a newer mom since some of the questions go back to "first words" and may be difficult for older moms to remember. Overall, it's put together nicely with thoughtful questions and nice colors. I'm anxious to see the answers!
Not just a baby book..........2006-03-20
I bought this book thinking it was a journal for just your pregnancy. I was delighted to see that it was for the whole 18 years of your child's life. It is also a great record keeper for child to learn about their grandparents. I would have loved to have this from my grandparents to learn about my ancestors. The pictures in the book are adorable. I can't wait. :)
A Mother's Keepsake Journal.......2005-07-23
I started buying this book 11 years ago for nieces and nephews when they were expecting children. To date I have bought 8 copies. Everyone loves them because you can keep a family history for future generations. When I learned I was to have my first grandchild, this was the book I wanted. It is more than just a baby book.
Customer Reviews:
Wonderful Keepsake.......2004-05-09
This book is wonderful because it isn't just a regular journal or scrapbook. It provides a way for you to tell your child all of the things you want them to know and allows them to read your thoughts when they are ready. I like it because it isn't just about the child, but a lot of it is about their parents. I would absolutely recommend this book to any parent. I wish that my parents had given me a copy of this book that they had filled out.
Time Factor.......2001-11-30
It's a great book which would make a great gift when your children are older to give them. It requires alot of writing though and not very colourful or expressive inside, just a journal that gives you idea's of what to write in it.
for my child.......2001-03-01
this book is absolutely incredible! I cannot wait to pass it to my daughter I know she will enjoy reading as much as I enjoyed writing! I strongly recommend this book!
An Incredible Journal!!.......2000-10-21
Just a side note, this journal came in hardcover, not paperback (as listed). I was pleased because this is a journal to be worked on over years, not just a few months, so the hardback cover makes it more durable! If you're looking for another traditional baby book, this is NOT it! On each page there is a thought or question to journal about. The 1st 2/3rds of the book are questions that you answer about you (your childhood, etc.), and there are also more probing things to ponder, such as your thoughts on career choices or thoughts on making and keeping friends and other questions along those lines. Scattered throughout are several blank "record your memories" pages. There's even a page for MOM to draw an outline of HER hand! The last 1/3rd of the book are questions a mother answers about her child, such as about the child's father and how you two met, bold statments your child made, things your child did that made you proud, things your child gave to you. I think this book is wonderful and would make a one-of-a-kind gift to an expecting mother, but it's also a great journal if you're already a mother! It will be a treasure to pass on when it's complete and your child is at an appropriate age to receive it. For those who love to journal or preserve memories, you will not be disappointed!!
Perfect Gift for a parent or a baby shower!.......1998-05-25
I enjoyed the layout of this journal. It gives you some thought prevoking questions to describe your childhood, values, dreams...than it let's you describe why you picked that child's name, event that happened while they were growing up. It a treasure to then past down to your child.

Guide for a very important journey.......2001-09-29
I bought this book for a baby shower gift for a friend. When I received it, I was really surprised at the quality of the book. It has a ribbon bookmark, a very attractive cover, and beautiful pages with illustrations and quotes. Though it's a thought-provoking journal with plenty of room for the new mom to write about her experiences, dreams, and concerns, it also has a surprising amount of substance. Linda Ann Olson has written about motherhood and God's plan for a woman and her child in a touching way that isn't over-sentimental. What a lovely gift, and I'm thrilled to send it.
A wonderful keepsake.......2001-09-02
I love this journal and I am sure my one-year-old daughter will love it also when she is old enough to read it. It is a must have for every mother. I want her to know how important God is in her life, and how much she brings into my life. This journal lets you provide both.
A spiritual and practical gift.......2001-02-08
This Keepsake Journal is a spiritual gift to women who are expecting new life, and to all who cherish the miracle of life. I was very moved by the author's honesty, acknowledging the fears and doubts that pregnancy can present us with: "Why do I feel so bad--when our news is so good?" One of the deepest reflections in this book is found in "My Prayer for the World's Children." Here, Mrs. Olson writes beautifully about how the love that parents feel for their own children extends to all of the world's children, and unites parents in creating a better world for all. This book combines great writing and reflection--and well-chosen Scripture quotes--with an interactive quality. It provides space in which the reader can write down her own thoughts and concerns, offering an opportunity for catharsis. It also gives the reader a means to create a lasting momento. This is a gem! I recommend it highly. It is a perfect gift, and I will give it as often as I can.
A touching inspirational, book on Motherhood.......1999-04-21
What a beautiful book! I wish I had this book when I was a new mother. Linda is a talented and inspirational writer who shares her thoughts, joys and reflections on becoming a mother. It is a touching book that helps the reader appreciate the treasures we mothers are entrusted with. I highly recommend this book and plan to buy several copies and give them as gifts.
Every new mom needs this volume for peace and meditation.........1999-03-27
Linda must be a terrific mom. Her insights are so refreshing, All moms can find comfort and strenght in her psalms.
