Coffee Table Species Book.......2002-03-22
This is a LARGE HEAVY book, with high gloss pages and many photos. Great species book with good commentary - though dated. Should be on the bookshelf of all livebearer hobbyists. General hobbyists who likelivebearers can just use the Baensch Atlases.
Book Description
This book provides advice about species selection, tank setup, maintenance, and the best way to achieve breeding success.

Good, but not great........2006-05-16
Good starting point if you are into livebeares.
The issues are not dealt with in depth. There is somehow a disconect between the title of the sections and their content, which makes it hard to find things that you read afterwards.
The style is more romantic than scientific.
If you are looking for specific, advanced info, look elsewhere.
The pictures are very nice!

ok.......2006-12-03
This book does have accurate information, but it is very general. Suitable for a rank beginner; others should look elsewhere. Another much better inexpensive book is Barron's book on livebearers.

The Aquarist's Bible for Livebearers.......2007-01-23
All of the Aqualog books are excellent value, although they are not particularly cheap. They are full to the brim with first class colour photographs and to reproduce these in a book is an expensive process. Whether they are about the beautiful Livebearers, new strains of which are coming into the aquarist trade or in this case arguably the most beautiful freshwater tropical fish species, they are the most comprehensive identification books you can buy. They never become dated because as new fish become available to the aquarist trade the books are updated. There is plenty of literature on Livebearers but none better than this.
Normally the books do not really deal with the basics of fish keeping, there are many and varied books that do that. They are in the main a fish identification encyclopaedia. But for those aquarists who are particularly interested in a single species or group of fish they are indispensable.
My bible.......2002-07-20
This is the book that allways are on my nighttable, its just fantastic,if you are in to livebearers this book is a must, never mind the price,it is worth every dollar.
To be honest,i am so satisfied with this book,i have two copies, one in the fishhouse, and one on the nighttable.

You never saw so many Livebearers and Halfbeaks in a book........1999-03-11
I think this is the best book about Livebearers and Halfbeaks. Probably you have a book about guppys, or you have a book about mollys, but I believe you never saw so many Livebearers and Halfbeaks at one time and in just "a" book. The best reference book great help you to recognize guppys, mollys, and other Livebearers and Halfbeaks. It's useful for someone who like these kinds fish.

thanks for the book... i'l learning how to crocheting now :) very useful book ...
perfect reference book.......2007-08-24
I love this book. I keep it in my yarn basket next to my recliner. I'm always referring to it. The pictures are clear. No drawings like a lot of books use. This has real clear photos. Very easy to understand. Very well written. I can't recommend this enough. Thanks Kim! I love your book!
Best Beginner Crochet Book .......2007-08-08
People have different learning styles. If you're a visual learner and new to crochet, this is the book to get. I had not crocheted anything in years and needed a good, uncomplicated book to get me going again. I ordered this and "Crocheting for Dummies" which intimidated me a bit with too many words and too few pictures. Both are good books, but "Teach Yourself Visually Crocheting" is the one I am continually refering to for guidance.
Amazing crochet book!.......2007-07-11
I've learned crochet from "Start Crochet / Crochet Basics" by Jan Eaton, a good illustrated book with clear instructions, but I've got bored within few months and stop crochet for more than a year. I decided to start again recently and bought this book. I was surprised after leafing through the pages; I didn't know that so many techniques exist!
I loved the way each technique and pattern is presented: clear step by step photos, pattern explained using crochet terminology and then in plain English. I finally understood the terminologies used in advanced books and on internet projects and now I can easily follow a pattern. Also I found out that I was doing crucial mistakes as result most of my projects weren't looking right as show in the final photos (one of the reasons I've got bored).
A great book for learning crochet but also to have it as a reference no matter at which stage you are.
Happy Customer.......2007-05-13
I am very pleased with this book. It is very instructive and helpful.

Customer Reviews:
THE BEST beginning knitting book out there.......2005-10-27
This book is a fantastic book for a new knitter, or for a "lapsed" knitter who needs to review some basic skills. The book uses lots of excellent, close-up, high-contrast color photographs to illustrate every step of the knitting (and crocheting) process.
The book will show you how to cast-on, both a single cast-on method and two double cast-on methods. There are also photos of a wide variety of pattern stitches knitted using only the basic knit and purl stitches. Then the book moves onto more complicated techniques, such as increasing, decreasing, and knitting with double-pointed needles. Again, excellent photographs will guide you every step of the way.
Finally, the book includes clear, concise directions for a number of fun projects. And the projects are not all trivial, either. I especially recommend the design called "cozy knit socks", which yields an awesome pair of socks which any knitter would be proud to wear.
Whether you are a new or returning knitter, this is an essential reference book.
Simply the best.......2005-10-15
With its clear, color, step-by-step photographs and coverage of nearly every knitting technique a beginner or even an intermediate knitter might need, this book--which has now been reissued under a different title, Maran Illustrated Knitting and Crocheting--is simply the best knitting instruction book I have ever seen for those of us who learn how to do things by seeing rather than by reading. I've given multiple copies to fellow knitters, and I have two copies myself in case one actually falls apart from heavy use. It's an unassuming volume from a small family-run press that may well become the indispensable foundation of your knitting library. If you are a visual learner who wants to knit but haven't learned because you don't have someone to teach you in person, this book is the answer. Enjoy!
Excellent book.......2005-09-25
This is one of my favorite reference books. I'm a visual learner and the color photographs with contrasting yarn colors are wonderful! Lots of other books have ink illustrations and I find those difficult to translate sometimes. I also like the fact that it has crochet info in it too because some knitting patterns require basic crochet skills.
Great transaction.......2005-09-09
The book was as described and received in a timely manner. Thank you!
Just Wonderful.......2005-06-30
I purchased on the recommendation from one of the employees at my favorite yarn shop. She was right on the mark. I learned to knit back in the eighties, but hadn't kept up my skills. I really needed something that knows a beginner is just that; a beginner. The instructions and pictures really helped when my Vogue book left me clueless. I loved the book so much that I purchased a second one for my sister-in-law, mainly because of the pictures. Her second language is english and has difficulty with our written instructions. She's also thrilled with the book, since I can't pop overseas to help her with her knitting problems. If you want something that is clear and consise, this is the book for you.

For vegetable gardeners who dread winter and grocery store produce aisles, Jeff Ashton has an answer, and it's this: don't allow the cold to come. Cover your plants like you would a child in a crib. The 12 Month Gardener is a book about defying the tyranny of seasons by building contraptions that control the plant's environment. It's a clearly written, detailed guide to constructing row covers, tunnels, and greenhouses.
A personal and anecdotal introduction is followed by teacherly, informative chapters on topics such as "Materials, Tools, and Construction Hints," "Vegetables for Cold Weather Gardens," and "The Ultimate Greenhouse." Specific building processes are explained in clear prose, although some knowledge of carpentry is required to fully understand the directions.
This is a book very much for gardeners who've become addicted to the taste of a fresh-picked tomato's sugars or the delicate texture of raw homegrown spinach. Beyond that, it also shows you how to be imaginative and proactive about the environment of your garden. With a bit of work, you don't have to say farewell to the growing season if you aren't ready to. --Emily White
Book Description
“A solid guide to creating contraptions that can help you start gardening earlier and keep going longer.”—Chicago Tribune. “Beautifully produced...focuses on ways to inexpensively protect crops from low temperatures....Includes many full-color photographs showing apparatus used to protect crops....A tremendous pleasure to read.”—HortIdeas.
Customer Reviews:
Excellent Book.......2003-10-22
This book has a wealth of wonderful ideas for the serious gardener who wants to extend her/his season. Although I do not intend to go to the lengths that the author does, I have gleened numerous ideas, many of which I have already put to use in the short time I have owned the book. If you are serious about extending your season, this is the book to buy!!
Just what I was looking for!.......2001-12-30
I love this book, and will refer to it often.
Mr. Ashton has provided the reader with clear photos and excellent instructions for a large variety of season extenders. He also explains WHY he prefers certain materials over others.
Reading this book, written by someone more experienced will be a big help to those of us just starting out.
I can't wait to get started!

Book Description
Though it may seem that life can’t change much more after your first child, many parents are in for a shock when they realize having another does not merely mean ordering two Happy Meals instead of one. In the words of Alice Walker, “With one you can move. With more than one you’re a sitting duck.” Beyond One is for parents with growing families what Anne Lamott’s Operating Instructions is for the novice. Most parenting books are written for first-timers, yet the addition of a second or third child raises wholly different concerns. Already proficient parents no longer need to read about baby care. They’re worried about sibling rivalry, and also about themselves. How, they wonder, will having another affect my marriage, work, and friendships? Will I have enough love for two? How will I manage them? Will I ever get my old body back now that I’m buying family-size everything and have so little time to exercise? And what about sex? In Beyond One, Jennifer Bingham Hull chronicles the first three years of life with two children, providing tips, insights, and plenty of comic relief for parents who not only want to grow a family, but get a life.
Customer Reviews:
An Excellent Read!.......2007-09-25
I would recommend this book highly. It's the first book I've found that approaches parenting two children from a world life perspective. A must read for parents considering having a second child.
Loved this book!.......2007-03-29
I just loved this book. It was my touchstone during my first several weeks with my second born and I've recommended it to everyone. Hull is humorous, authentic and brutally honest--not an easy feat for a mother writing about her own parenting. It's refreshing to find writing that bypasses the packaged, saccharine anecdotes about family life found in most parenting magazines and books and instead is full of Real Life: good, bad, ugly, beautiful, ambiguous, messy and hilarious. Single moms have written most of the autobiographical books on parenting (Anne Lamott comes to mind)--for a married reader whose husband also wants an equality-based relationship with shared parenting, Beyond One is also great in terms of validation, 'how to' and not feeling alone in the quest for creating life-giving, holistic family relationships.
Beyond One book.......2007-02-11
Gave as a gift to my sister. Her 2 children are less than a year apart - - needless to say she has her hands full.
GREAT BOOK; Got One Husband Involved.......2006-11-28
Hull's zest for parenting is contagious. Reading Beyond One has made me more excited about my own family life. It shows that fathers do matter and has inspired me to "pitch in" more at home. I have more sympathy for my wife and feel closer to my children.
At the same time, Beyond One is a fun read. Crisp and witty, it made me laugh out loud. I highly recommend this insightful guide to life after the second child.
Horrible Book-Don't Buy It.......2006-10-29
I do not recommend this book to any mother who is happy, healthy, and serious about her life. This book is very negative, bitter, and depressing. The advice isn't anything ground breaking or out of this world. In fact much is just common sense. This book expresses a very anti-child view, caters to capitalism, and isn't inclusive of other ethnic groups and middle to lower income couples. This is the worst book I've ever read and I feel very sorry for people who choose to think like this and live this this.
