I think that if you want to get a rabbit, you should read this book because it tells you about rabbits so you know how many responsibilities there are in taking care of rabbits. The other books about pets are also very helpful.

If You Want The Book With The Least Detail, This Is It........2005-07-29
This book is thin with lots of colorful pictures of mice, some of the things you need and can have when you own a mouse and a few pictures of the subject they're talking about at the time. Example: How to figure out what gender your mouse is.
It also includes a VERY nice couple of pages that show you a picture of a healthy mouse and has arrows pointing at the signs of a healthy mouse like clear eyes and shiny fur.
It's not a complete guide to owning a mouse, but it's short and to the point. It's a good guide to get for people that don't like to read more than 30 pages.
Doesn't tell you how to keep the stink down........2001-01-17
Very colorful and informative book with great photography. Manages to pack a good deal of information into such a small space. Needs some more practical advice. Instead of "wood shavings," for bedding, it'd be nice if the author pointed out that pine shavings help keep the odor down. Also, neglects systems of raising mice in large quantities. This would be good for reptile keepers who raise feeders.

Too little informaton. Does not discuss any type of information on guinea pig diseass, how to bath your pig, or buying the perfect cage. A quick read, not worth the price I paid for it.

Those of you who want to learn about guinea pigs and how to care for them in detail, I'm afraid that this book is not suitable for you. The contents are too brief. Despite that, the pictures are very clear (and there are lots of them!) I feel that this book will be perfect for young children who are learning to care for their cavies as the language is simple to understand.

Good beginner's book, but don't rely on it only........2000-02-08
I own one dozen books on rat care, some current, some vintage (ie, printed before 1980). I've read the books by Ducommon, Mays, Fox, Cardinal, Himsel, and Bulla. This book differs from them in that it is intended for the younger rat person, of about 8 or so. It scans the basics of rat care in simple, easy words, copiously illustrated, and with little sidebar snippets of info. It glances briefly at handling your new rat, what to feed him, what sort of home to provide, and how to recognize common health problems in rats, such as ring tail. I've only discovered one outright error in the text, which is a snippet, so it may not be Mr. Viner's words (though the editor should have caught it). On page 7, the norway rat and the roof rat (rattus rattus aka black rat) are confused. This is hardly earth shattering, and the pet care info seems accurate enough.I disagree with the blanket statement that the aquarium home is better than the cage home; both forms have drawbacks and advantages.
I would give this book to a little boy or girl who just got his/her first rat(s). It will inform them of what they need to do and how to do it,and add to the selfconfidence they need in dealing with a new pet. Mom and dad should have a copy of the Ducommon book handy, when more detailed info is needed.

good for kids.......2000-08-27
While not the book I would choose for an adult gerbil-keeper, it would be great for kids who want to get their first gerbils. The info is very basic and the pictures are cute. There are some care tips that I wouldn't follow (like cleaning the bedding only every 3-4 months) but as a whole it's a quality book for children who want to learn more about gerbils.

Great Comprehensive Book for Beginners/Intermediates.......2007-09-17
This book is great if you want to learn about scrapbooking. A lot of the other books that I have tried consist mostly of samples pages and then desriptions of what products were used to create the pages. I was really pleased that this book first gives detailed information about what tools and techniques can be used to make pages. People who have been scrapbooking seriously for years, probably wouldn't find this book as helpful, but for people who are looking to get more serious about scrapbooking I highly recommend this book. (And there are plenty of samples pages if you are looking for some ideas.)

I've been scrapbooking for a few years. There are several things I've wanted to try, but didn't know where to start.
This book has answered all of my questions and then some. It does so in straight forward answers, in many cases with step-by-step pictures. They have lots of page ideas with "how it was done" text so you know just what to do.
Excellent and would recommend to all levels of ability.
Perfect for a beginner.......2007-04-24
This is a great book if you're new to scrapbooking. All the basic tools and techniques are explained, you'll also get to know the scrapbook lingo. The layouts are great and sure to inspire. However once you get past the beginner stage there's not much for you in this book. This book does not go too deep in the techniques and the layouts get lost between two page explanations on how to use a paper trimmer.

I have been scrapping for years and decided to get this book for new ideas and tips on how to use new tools. I guarntee that this book is a great buy. I also bought three others and was happy with all of them. If you're a starter or just a regular scrapper who wants some new techniques, any book here is the best place to start!

Almost Completely Worthless.......2007-10-02
The only "idea" in this book is: go to Tough Love meetings. Of course, everyone there will be just as confused as you are, since Tough Love doesn't have any actual guidelines or strategies to offer (otherwise they'd be outlined in the book, right?). Oh, and good luck finding one of those meetings I live in a densely populated area and there are none here.
This book is basically a series of anecdotes. One parent went to her kid's school dressed as a clown or something. Another staged a picket line outside of her own home. I bought this book hoping for some REAL ideas, not this useless drivel.
Some good advice.......2007-08-27
Although this book does offer some great advice for taking back control of your children's lives, and your own...it's mostly a companion book for people also attending the Toughlove meetings. It's more about the Toughlove network/program, itself, than a teaching tool/self-help/advice kind of book.
Since there are no meetings in my area, I thought the book would offer me what I couldn't get at the meetings. Not so much. Which is fine, I get the fact that the networking is a vital part of it all. Just wish I knew that before buying it :) Because pretty much everything in the book depends on your getting to those meetings and building a network.
If you can get to the meetings, this is a good book to have. If not, this book doesn't really stand on it's own.

I am a member of a Toughlove group and just because that one woman wasn't willing to change her own behavior is not a reflection on the Toughlove group or their philosophy. Toughlove is about realizing that you can't change your child, you can only change the way you relate to them, thus forcing them to relate to you differently. It's about taking stands and setting boundaries and not letting your children manipulate you. It's about putting the anxiety and responsibility for our children's lives where it belongs, on the children. I think a lot of people have bad misconceptions about what Toughlove is all about. I would recommend this book and the new book "The Toughlove Prescription" to any parent, whether their child is in crisis or not. The principles apply whether the child is in crisis or not.

This is an amazing book and an extremely helpful approach to parenting teenagers. I don't get it why people think they advocate abuse, it's the opposite it makes parents accountable for their behavior. The writers present great ideas and insight into the problems that are facing our families and communities because of destructive teenage behaviors. Great book!
