This book is a series of short stories about a lady working as An Animal Control Officer. It contains over 60 illustrations by author. It will make you laugh, it will make you cry, and sometimes you will wonder! At the politics behind the scenes!
Customer Reviews:
Enjoyable, despite all of the editing it needs.......2007-01-16
I agree with M. M. Magliaro that this self-published book has tons of distracting misspellings, punctuation errors, grammar mistakes, malapropisms, and editing problems. When I came across a word that didn't make sense within the context of the sentence, I made it a game to try and figure out which word the author actually had intended to use!
However, looking past the errors, I found Bowerman's book to be really charming and funny. She has a wonderful sense of humor, and an extremely positive outlook on life. Bowerman is clearly a "salt-of-the-earth" kind of person, with a good and loving heart. The stories she has to share with the reader are informative, entertaining, and act as small windows into animal and human nature. Her "adventures", struggles, and joys experienced on the job also illustrate her growth as a person and as a city employee.
What is especially interesting to me is the fact that Bowerman created an animal control department from scratch, despite a heck of a lot of opposition and interference from others. It's amazing that she never gives up! Bowerman uses common sense in her work and an instinctive understanding of animal (and human!) behavior. She acknowledges when she makes errors in judgement, and she clearly learns from them, becoming a better animal control officer as the years go by.
The author's simple black & white drawings that accompany the text are charming, as well.
I would recommend this book, but only if one is willing to excuse and overlook the book's need for a proofreader and editor!
Writer cannot form a complete sentence, hideously written.......2006-12-28
At first, it appears that this little book would be a nice collection of personal accounts of an "animal control lady" as the title implies. And it tries to be just that.
However, be aware that this book is self-published. The grammar and spelling mistakes are so bad that they actually make the book a chore to read. I am making no exaggeration here. It is almost impossible to find 3 sentences in a row anywhere in the book without a serious misspelling or completely garbled assemblage of words.
We are not talking petty grammar "fine points" here. I am talking about bunches of words that are almost unconnected.
This makes it very hard to even understand what the writer is trying to say.
In fact, the writing is so bad that it is, frankly, comical.
As for the stories themselves, they are bland, rambling streams of thought with little to hold the reader's interest. A typical story kind of bumps along and then spontaneously ends with no point, no conclusion, and honestly, nothing to remember.
The way the book reads, it looks like these stories were originally quick notes jotted in a personal journal in a rush while handling animal control cases. That may well be. It was a really nice idea.
But honestly, the whole book needs a complete rewrite to turn it into actual prose, and to pare down the 562 pages to about 100 that actually contain interesting material.
Heart warming.......2002-01-22
This is a heart waming book.
A must read for all animal lovers.
A true to life story.
Heart warming.......2002-01-22
This is a wonderful book. Down to earth and heart warming.
A must read for any one who loves animals.
Book Description
A new wire weaving technique that varies the number of wires and their thickness to create stunningly beautiful bracelets, necklaces, and pendants is introduced in this guide. Project instructions go well beyond simple line drawings to show the assembly process of each piece in a series of step-by-step photographs. The nine projects begin with an elegantly simple woven bracelet and move on to more dramatic projects that include a domed cuff bracelet with soldered bead ends, a free-form bracelet, a woven neck piece, and a pendant with a woven frame. Projects range in difficulty from easy to advanced, and many can be completed without soldering. The more experienced craftsperson will savor the way Precious Metal Clay adds striking embellishments to three of the projects.

A new twist on wire jewelry.......2007-02-19
The jewelry in this book is gorgeous and ultimately not that difficult to make. You will need to find some way to finish the clasps though as the braiding creates a non-conventional end which needs finishing. The book suggests PMC or soldering to accomplish this. There are only about three basic designs and then variations on the closure techniques. Its all very pretty and inspiring and much more classy that simple wire wrapping. You will have to do a little math too, to figure out how much wire you will need. Its a pretty book with a couple of very nice unique ideas upon which you can build once you get the hang of this technique.
EXCELLENT BOOK . . . for the most part.......2006-11-29
I have to admit that since it took two months to receive this book, I had considered canceling my order on more than several occasions. However, am I glad I didn't!! What a beautiful and informative book! The photographs and the designs are all sensational. The projects looked difficult to me at first, but once I looked at the clear blow-by-blow photographs of each step, I have been never been less intimidated, nor so excited, to get my hands into a project! I LOVED the mold-making lessons on how to make sterling silver accents out of PMC clay if I wanted to add them to the necklaces and bracelets. I'm so pleased to find that I can make an entire piece of fine art jewelry without any man-made additions, nor the use of glue, and many times without any soldering. I'm thrilled, and my biggest regret is that I'm marking up this beautiful book with underlines, written notes, and stickies; it is definitely a working book for me.
**Although I stand by the above review written 11/06, I felt that I needed to add to it hoping that if there is a book reprint, the authors will update what I consider one serious breech of instruction clarity. Now that I've tried some of the projects, what I found was that none of the wire amounts necessary were listed. I had to determine the amount of wire for each project by hunting through the body of instructions until I located the wire length and the cuts, and only THEN could I calculate how much wire I needed. This process is repeated over and over again depending on how many gauges of wire are needed for the project. Frankly, it's irritating. Although, to be fair, all the wire information is there to complete each project, you really have to hunt for it.
In a future reprint, it would be VERY helpful for the amount of wire required for each project to be in the supply list along with each of the wire gauges. Brief instructions on how to change the size of the project through wire length adjustments would be sufficient for those users who might want to adapt it, but for the vast majority . . . specific wire amounts given up front would make it much easier to complete a project.
Braid wire in a day!.......2006-09-19
I found the authors' instructions to be very clear. I had no trouble following their instructions, and made a bracelet in a day! I especially liked the way they showed photos of common mistakes and how to fix them. The section on precious metal clays was very interesting and I am looking forward to trying PMC. I have been braiding wire ever since I got the book, and have received many compliments on the braided wire bracelet I made from the book. My one disappointment is that the authors' showed many beautiful styles in the gallery, but did not include instructions on those braiding/weaving techniques. I would recommend this book for anyone interesting in learing how to braid wire.
dissapointing.......2006-09-12
pros: elegant designs
very detailed instructions, step by step
cons: different designs but same technique. lack variety. there are many different types of woven chain, but not much in this book.
i thought this book was all about weaving, but i found a lot of precious matal clay stuff in the book. it can be good if that's what you are interested
Clever, clear and not for the beginner !.......2006-04-08
Let me start by saying that if you are interested in making jewelry. You should learn to solder! It is not that difficult, nor has to be that expensive. You can purchase a butane torch that is refilled from the same cans that refill lighters. Add to that the three different solders, hard, med and soft or easy. These are different melting temperatures solder needed. with the flux and one or two tools you have you can silver solder form $30 to under $100.U.S. It will expand your work and range more than anything else you can do. As to the book in question. First is if you want to learn these techniques but balk at spending the money for the silver wire. Just replace it with bare copper wire or brass wire from the hobby or home center. The bare copper wire sold in the electrical dept is called ground wire and they have a number of gauges.
The book is laid out with plenty of color pictures. This is nice for us visual learners. They also have complete descriptions
to go along with the pictures.
My biggest problem with the book,is to somebody that is flipping through the projects the material lists doesn't have the total length of any gauge wire needed. It is listed in the description paragraph at the start of the project instructions. It does make it harder for somebody that is new to weaving. Or does have multiple feet of the size wire on hand. The first 8 chapters are for weaving and then the metal clay finishes out the book consisting of one chapter 35 pages in length. Again the clay info is for the brand PMC clay, but they do tell you that if you use the other clay(Art Metal) you will have to adjust to suit the techniques and requirements of it. The quick clamp idea and use is great but it needed to be expanded to show mounting it to a board or pipe so it can be held in a vise or under the legs of the person weaving. I do like some of the projects with the mixed size wire and will replace some of the clay with metal inserts. I do own It.

I Don't Believe It.......2007-01-10
I think this book is made up of a bunch of baloney. I don't believe a word of it. I think that way too much importance is placed on sex, to the point of being obsessed with it. It's about a bunch perverts, in my opinion. The author's interest and obsession with sex is not normal. It appears she thinks of nothing else in life, except sex, and who to have it with.
a complete sacred sex course.......2006-04-27
This book is a complete sacred sex course in itself. With lots of meditations, activities, and exercises, it is particularly suited for couples who want to open up to each other emotionally as well as physically.
Extremely, technically thorough.......2005-09-20
Very detailed oriented manual type of book but very informative as well. I recommend if serious about this subject!
Interesting, but be honest about whether this is appropos.......2001-12-27
This is a very interesting book to read. However, be aware that this is not a typical western sex-ed book. It is written from a 'foreign' background, and that is very apparant. The book is big and there is a lot there, not like many sex-ed books. There are scores of exercises. But honestly ask yourself (and your partner) if you are willing or desirous of trying a truly different method. If it's not something you WANT to try, then you might not end up liking this book at all, and so will just be out the purchase price, with no sexual benefits.
So ask yourself whether you want to try a new type of sexual practice, paradigm, or ontology. If you do, then this is an excellent book. If you don't, then it is too truly foreign for you to enjoy or benefit from.
A wonderful wedding gift........2000-07-10
I've given this book as a shower gift or wedding present many times, and the couples always get me aside and tell me how grateful they were for the book. The Art of Sexual Ecstasy is beautifully and elegantly written that you never have that embarrased feeling when sharing it becuase it reads nearly like peotry. The illustrations are lovely and tasteful, and the spiritual aspects are insighful and rich. I found the book to be personally inspirering as well. Thanks :-)

Pleasure equals happiness?.......2003-12-01
Honestly, has anyone acheived happiness through sensations? Granted, we experience some brief enjoyment, but inevitably, disappointment arrives... Those who seek happiness through sensations are always disappointed: that is why we have the symbol of the Satyr. The Satyr is focused on sensations but he is never content... Be sincere with yourself and realize the truth of this in your life: you can never find happiness through supposed "ecstasy" - you may find a brief moment of escape from the problems, but when it is over you are left with the same problems. This is not Tantra. Real Tantra provides the complete transformation of suffering. One cannot transform suffering so long as one has desire. Desire is the root of all suffering. We suffer because we do not have what we desire. When we get what we desire, we suffer because we are afraid of losing what we desire. There is no contentment. Contentment comes when the desire has been removed; then there is nothing missing, there is peace, joy, the true ecstasy of the Consciousness. This is the freedom of the soul: to be free of all selfish desire. This can be achieved through radical work on oneself. Real happiness comes when there is no anger, no pride, no lust, no fear... This is what real Tantra teaches, and this knowledge cannot be found in this book. This book will teach you to deepen your dependence on sensation, to deepen your lust, to adopt practices whose true purpose you cannot see, and to make you more of a slave of desire... To find the true teaching, read the works of Samael Aun Weor (The Perfect Matrimony, The Mystery of the Golden Blossom), the Tibetan Buddhists, the Buddha, Krishna, Jesus... they all agree: there is no happiness so long as the ego lives in us.

THE ULTIMATE TANTRIC RESOURCE!.......2001-01-04
Fantastic!
This book has proven to be a continual resource of information. It is multileveled, so the beginner and serious student both benefit. Through theNsimple exercises you will learn valuable methods of making love not only to others, but to yourself, awakening mystical union and opening to alchemical transformation. Dr. Mumford has created a rare resource book, authentic through his extensive experience in initiated practices in India, filtered through a western mind to be an easy to read approach and grounded through scientific and medical knowledge. Few other resources have such extensive training. Through the mirrors of Dr. Mumford's expansive research, the vision of Tantra becomes clearer...Patricia, tantra teacher,
Excellent, helpful, and fascinating.......2000-12-07
I highly reccommend this book. It describes the background and philosophy of Tantra without losing the reader. It also provides a guide to Tantric practices, with pictures and instructions, which are easy to follow and positive. This book will show you how to achieve new heights of happiness and enligtenment with the help of a loving partner or alone, although most of the book is geared towards couples and how to work together. I think any couple that reads this book together will benefit their relationship and their individual psyches.

Sexual Ecstasy.......2007-01-10
Outstanding, the ideas and techniques presented are workable and enjoyable for both partners.
Not really for all of us.......2005-05-20
Perhaps it's me, but it wasn't what I hope.
Sure, the book have its points, and in a way explain the basis for the neofit... but, I don't know, I really expected something diferent than a semi-tantric introduction to the Art of Orgasm.
Anyway, as a reference... bad choice. For peak into other point of view about sex could be interesting.
Sexual Pleasure...........2001-08-10
This is a good book with helpful direction and good illustrations. It could have had a few more color pictures but overall a good book. Can definitely get your man interested in exploring more of your body.
Repeat information.......2001-05-11
My disappointment with this book was that it simply re-prints information from Margot Anand's book "The Art of Sexual Magic". So if you already own that book, you should look for something else. Otherwise, the information in it is good. I had just hoped it was something new.
left me unsatisfied..........2001-01-10
i received this book from a friend who has been trying to help me on the road to orgasm through mastrubation, and although i found the cover of the book erotic, i didn't find it to be that helfpul. i found both the title and the description to be misleading...it's far too cheesy (and even offensive for indian people that people are supposed to be addressing each other as shiva and shakti, dieties) and i think it was full of some useless stuff like these addresses...i think it needs to be more of a manual and it really wasn't...
Customer Reviews:
New Cover Same Story.......2006-12-12
Just curious about new editions so I picked this one up to refer to the original in my library. I see no difference in the two editions except the cover, which I honestly do not enjoy as much as the original one. The original edition cover was a master artist's portrayal of the erotic, which went beyond the flesh into the sublime. If that is a criticism than let it be a very small one. The original book was beautifully illustrated and it aptly conveyed the Tantric sexual truths in a tasteful and understated manner. This one continues to honor the art and form of tantra which is union of spirit and the flesh as One. So anyone who has the option to purchase this one over the first edition...it is a toss up! Go ahead and judge the book by the cover.

This book is worth reading. Easy to read without being superficial. Gives multifaceted information that you can use to change your outlook on life.
clear, solid, insightful and inspiring.......2003-04-21
i was afraid (as i am with many new age books) that "art of everyday ectasy" was going to err on the corny, enlightenment-pretending side like many in this genre. however, ms. anand brings solid, confident insight to this topic, and some very good ideas for rising to your own potential for everyday ectasy.
