Excellent book, but not for a beginner. It doesn't go into very deep detail, so you do need some lounge line knowledge to really understand what the author is talking about.

Finally! A book on in hand training and how to take the movements from the ground to mounted training. And a real explanation of each step for teaching the Spanish Walk (among many other movements) to a green horse. This is a book we'll return to again and again.

I loved this book! I normally use books like this as a sleep aid, but this one kept me awake and interested the whole way through. This guy has a very easy and straight forward way of explaining these complicated concepts as well as instructing the reader to watch for the horse's natural ability. Because the whip needs to be used on the legs of the horse for the more advanced moves, he constantly reminds the reader that these lessons need to be applied with patience and kindness, and to praise the horse for the slightest attempt.
If you have a horse built for extreme collection and want to try something different, this book is for you.
The Best Classical inhand principles so far!.......2005-10-12
This is a great book for people who want to learn classical in-hand principles using Iberian methods and the methods used by the SRS.
It's the best book I've seen so far on the topic of inhand schooling from novice through to advanced levels.

Not the best on the subject.......2007-06-17
This book is a slow read and not the most comprehensive or useful book on this topic. Mostly it covers massage and stretching. It goes over evaluation of the normal horse, identifying problems, preventing problems, massage, exercise therapy, and specific regimes for specialist disciplines. A specific regime is not included for jumpers. The massage section had lots of pictures and showed you, step-by-step, how to do it. Not worth it for me.
Excellent Guide for Hands On Equine Care.......2004-12-10
If you are interested in learning not only how to avoid injury to your horse but improve performance, you would do well to take the practical and well-thought out advice offered by this well-respected and credentialed human and equine physiotherapist. Even the spiral binding was considered so to allow one to take it to the barn and lay it open while you practice the many simple yet effective techniques Ms. Sutton covers beside many helpful photos. As in all healthcare, in order to determine what abnormal is, one must start with a clear understanding of normal. While this may seem like "stating the obvious," I come across enough horseowners for whom such things bear repeating. To focus solely on this, is to miss the overall value and important information this book contains. Beside massage and stretching regimens for the horse, stretching and warm up exercises for the rider are also included, so horse and rider function as a more physically harmonious unit vs. separate elements. Chock full of practical tips from hoof balance to suppling exercises, you would do well to own this book.
Not Helpful..........2002-10-03
I did not find this book helpful in any way and do not recommend purchasing it for your library. What the author considers helpful tips are statements of the obvious. For example in the Suppling Exercises Applied chapter, a Tip from the author is: "You can rest yourself and the horse in between each exercise, or just continue into the next one straightaway." Advice such as "blankets should fit correctly" is equally ridiculous. There are many other excellent books to use as resources - feel free to pass on this one.

This book is the first of its kind to cover showing the sporthorse and hunter in-hand. It covers all that one needs to know to prepare for the show, from training the horse, to grooming, to presenting the horse. There is also a lot of information to help a person learn what to look for when buying a sporthorse.
This book can be useful to the training of any young horse, whether it is to be shown or not, because the horse learns respect and how to behave in the presence of its handler.

This really is a complete book for gourds. Gourds for food, crafting and Medicine. It tells you all about planting, pests, diseases and common remedies. Lots of suppliers for seeds and dried gourds as well. Discriptions of the grown gourds and pictures -- Great pictures through out and well done drawings. 121 pages of pure intrest for the gourd lover!

As a novice gourd grower, I found this book to be an excellent, easy to follow guide on all aspects of gourd growing. The photos were a big plus! This is THE book for beginning gourders. If you can only buy one book on gourding, this is the one!
Wonderful, informative book on growing gourds........1999-05-13
Last year it was a jungle in my garden,the gourd plants had taken over and I was at a loss as to what to do. This book has helped me 100% on my cultivation of gourds. It covers trellising, pruning, common pests and problems. A great book for the novice or seasoned gardener who might need a reminder of a few things (like me).
