This coloring book has great activities for kids. I loved that you could tear out every page to post on the fridge. My only complaint is that the story to color follows the movie TMNT, but the art work looks like it's from 1989.

Beer Memorabilia Collector's Delight !.......2000-08-14

This beautiful, 184 page deluxe, laminated cover hardbound volume will be enjoyed by every beer memorabilia collector. It contains 184 pages, 8 1/2 x 11", with more than 200 full color, gorgeous, sharp photos, many full page in size. It has '97 pricing. It is loaded with information on this collectable, with very complete item descriptions. Major topics range from early history, brewery company art, signs, trays, brewery beauties, statues, reverse glass, mugs, cans and more. It does not include every item available, but a good representative of each category. A beautiful deluxe library volume. Enjoy, enjoy.

Not the book for finding prices of cans or trays.......2000-04-23

Book has an extremely limited amount of content. Only the rarest trays are and signs are listed with prices. If your looking for prices for most of the trays you see this is not the book for you, also not a beer can price guide at all. If your expecting to look up Kruger, Ballentine, etc. companys trays to find prices, your not going to find it here.

Wonderful artifacts.......1998-02-12

Herb and Helen Haydock are the most successful collectors of American brewing artifacts ever to engage in the hobby. Over several decades, they have amassed (and have now donated to Miller Brewing Co. for safekeeping and display) an astounding array of breweriana including cans, trays, back bar breweriana, paper goods, giveaways, etc. Many of these rare and unique items are displayed beautifully in this book, which features finely detailed color and black and white photographs of items in their collection. The book concentrates on full size trays, but does hit on all areas of the brewery collecting hobby. Of note is the Haydocks' specialized interest in the old Potosi brewery. The only criticism I have relates to the estimated pricing of the artifacts - based on my own experience, I would argue that the prices here are at least 30% lower than you would actually pay to acquire the item, and in several cases less than half of what you could reasonably expect to fork over. Aside from that, this is a wonderful trip through time at some items that most of us will only be able to see in this book.

A page turner.......2007-06-27

While I agree the book would have been even better with more "whole garden" photos, I just couldn't put it down. I've been gardening for a few years here in the Midwest, and I always had the feeling I was "doing it wrong." After reading several gardening books, "Midwest Cottage Gardening" was the first one to provide simple guidelines for gardening success in our crazy climate. Fran (I feel like she's a friend) has given me the know-how and peace of mind to carry on and enjoy the whole wild process of gardening.

One word: Disappointing! .......2007-01-23

On page one, the author asserts that "We've read too many magazines, watched too many gardening TV programs, seen gardening videos, and gone on too many garden walks to have the 'beginner's mind'..." Apparently, "too many books" are why she was totally clueless that variables like soil type and quantity of rain and sun would affect how well a plant would thrive in her yard.

She claims to have been perplexed when perennials hardy to zone 7 kicked the bucket during her zone 5 winters. She was shocked when the plant she bought at the nursery ("No one could tell me a thing about it.") was unhappy in her Chicago yard; it was native to California & Alaska!

There are lots of photos. Most of them are homogeneous photos of things like a clump of Hostas or a field of Black-Eyed Susans. I can see pictures of individual plants in any seed catalog; I want to see what they look like in a cottage garden!

All of the photos seem to have been taken in the author's own yard. There's not a single picture of someone else's garden. There are no descriptions of gardens outside her Chicago suburb, let alone her home state of Illinois. Perhaps the book should have been called "A Midwest Cottage Garden" or "Frances Manos's Garden". That's all that's in here. If you already know the basics of zones and what plants need to survive and you're looking for inspiration and ideas for creating your own cottage garden, I suggest looking elsewhere.

A Great Advice Giver.......2004-12-07

Even though this book is classified as a how-to, it felt like more like a reader to me. It is almost as though Frances Manos was my neighbor, having her impart her garden experience over the fence or a cup of coffee.
This book gives advice on how to create beautiful cottage gardens. You will learn the secrets of using perennials, annuals, fruits and vegetables to make your garden unique and wonderful all at the same time.
Her writing style is easy to read and encouraging, not pushy or boastful. You can feel her enthusiasm for getting others to garden as you read this book. Although this book takes a while for you to get into, you need to read it from the beginning to end so that you don't miss out on anything.

If you like to garden you will love this book.......2004-11-08

I have only recently become interested in gardening and I'm telling you, this book is by far the most interesting and best-written book I have seen. This is not just a book about gardening it is a book about what is important in life. Really, you should check this out for its superb combination of practical gardening advice and wise thoughts about the environment.
