Book Description
So--you tell your puppy to "Stay!" and instead he comes running. Though you firmly say "No barking," the words fall on deaf ears. At the table, doggie's a menace, and your shoes are all chewed up. You need help...and so does your dog. In just 10 weeks, you can have an animal that you know will behave. Based on the authors' time-tested course, these lessons build dog and owner confidence and take you through all aspects of training. Every command and move is simply explained and illustrated with photographs, and useful checklists help you keep track of pup's progress. It doesn't matter what your pet's age, and there's essential information on the differences between large and small breeds. These classes will work, because they're based on kindness and emphasize praise and reward. By the time you're through, your dog won't be pulling on the leash--he'll be heeling nicely!

2000 Standard Catalog of Firearms.......2000-04-03
This handy reference should be part of every firearm collectors library. Anyone interested in firearms should have a copy of this book. Included is Colt's Manufacturing Companys discontinued model alerts, changes by UPS and other common carrier in shipping, a list of the firearms included in Clinton's ban on "assault style" firearms, an article on the firearms world in review for 1999, arrticle on selected class three firearms, explanation of the grading system..
Some of the firearm manufacturers listed are American Derringer Corp., American Frontier Firearms, Auto Ordnance Corp., Ballard Patent Arms, Bretta, Browning Arms Co., and many others too numerous to list in complete detail.
A bkack & white photo accompanies many of the descriptions to make identication easy. Every fireams is listed with the estimated retail value depending upon condition. Background information is listed when available as to when a model was introduced as well as when it was discontinued. Detailed information is given such as to the style of pistol grips, type & length of barrel, type of ammunition, and type of stock. There are new sections on Webley autos, Seville and El Dorado revolvers. Firearms covered are from 1838 to 1999. One of the most comphrensive books available on the market today.
A very nearly complete listing of guns and accurate prices........1999-04-07
This book has a great many listings and while a very thick book it is not very wordy. Only the bare facts are presented, enough to identify the the gun and then the prices that are based on the "Gun List" publication. I have found the prices to be on the high side when compared to local (Indiana) gun show prices. This is to be expected since the price is based on national buyer exposure. It is still just a guide and a good one, I would have given it five stars, but for the fact that it lacked some details in the description that I would have found useful as a amature gun buyer.
Sometimes, bigger is not always better..........1998-12-16
A true buyers guide should include a thorough look at each model of various firearms made by various manufacturers. All variations must be noted and all differences/similarities should be spelled out for the readers. Every calibre of every type; the uniqueness of a particular make (the hardness of the frame, the type of slide rails that were developed and when; etc, etc, etc); a glossary for novices and professionals alike (eg, what does parabellum mean?) and the list goes on. All commentaries on manufacturer's and their products histories were too brief and will disappoint everyone except for the resellers and novices. If you don't care about pricing and the historical values of a particular piece, take a look at a publication like GUN DIGEST. DO not make the mistake of thinking this is a true reference however. This is strictly a pricing catalog and nothing more.

Sell your lawnmower!.......2003-05-29
This is a book of short, readable essays about gardening with native plants. Itýs a how-to manual telling you how NOT to spend your weekends cutting grass. The writer, who lives in Texas, uses native plants of that state to illustrate her points, but itýs easy enough for people living elsewhere to substitute local species. Because not only does she tell us that lawns are an ecological wasteland, she goes on to show the reader that many of our garden plants are brought in from other countries and other regions. Not only are they unsuited to our local area and prone to die because they are not used to our soil and climate, but they lead us to ignore equally lovely plants that are at home in our region and perfectly suited not only to our climate and soil but also to our local ecology. They have adapted over hundreds of years to feed and shelter our local wildlife.
The writer, a landscape designer, writer and teacher has a crisp style and keeps her essays short and salted with humour. She has an understanding not just of the ecological blind spots of our times, but of how they came to be. She makes her case for greater ecological responsibility convincingly, with the added incentive of ecologically sound gardening being much less work. So why are there so many green deserts in our suburbs?

Mexican Garden.......2007-09-27
I was very surprise whith the quality of the presentation and the beautiful pictures. Excellent!!
Beautiful Photo's.......2007-09-03
I love this book! The beautiful photographs give the reader great ideas on how to design and decorate.
great book, terrible binding!!.......2007-07-19
I love the pictures and ideas presented, but after 2 days, the binding had pulled away from the pages!! I think that is flaw that needs fixing.
Mexican Garden.......2007-07-06
I chose this book to help give me some ideas as to how to " Mexicanise " my garden.
So what with the yuccas, agaves & cacti i'm well on the way, just need to add more colour & fragrance to it.
I also bought Mexicasa and Mexicolor.
It's a nice book..........2007-06-13
Your basic coffee table book, nice photos of exactly what the book claims to be: Courtyards, Pools, and Open-Air Rooms. A lot of the subject matter is authentic, old and sometimes dilapidated. Don't expect to see many pictures of new or well kept patios, pools or gardens. This is the real McCoy, just like you'll see when visitng Old Mexico...not that there'e anything wrong with that.
Amazon.com
There are countless books about lifestyles that are inaccessible, either because they are engulfed by abstract ideas or are set in palaces, real or imagined. The Outdoor Living Room: Stylish Ideas for Porches, Patios, and Pools is a rare exception: gorgeous photographs of beautiful outdoor spaces that are accessible, or at least seem to be. Split up into sections that can appeal to anyone-"Modern," "Classic," "In Town," "Romantic," or "Whimsical"--this book can move even the most hardened city dweller, or bring dreamers out of their country homes. The book has a distinct magazine-like flavor, but the rigor of the photographic summation of elements in each section offsets this. The text is uninspiring, usually describing the photographs or making vague generalizations, but no matter, because the photographs are what this book is all about. They are beautiful and plentiful, whetting the appetite for sunny days in our own "outdoor living rooms." --Juliette Cezzar
Book Description
In the summer months and year-round in warmer climates, Americans love spending time outdoors. More and more, people are treating the outdoor spaces on their properties as true extensions of their homes, turning porches, pools, patios, decks, and gardens into outdoor living spaces that serve the same functions as indoor rooms.
In The Outdoor Living Room:
Stylish Ideas for Porches, Patios, and Pools, acclaimed author Martha Baker offers more than forty-five striking examples of this enlightened approach to outdoor decorating.
The Outdoor Living Room is divided into six chapters, each representing a specific type of outdoor style: Classic, Rustic, Romantic, Modern, Whimsical, and In Town. Six or seven different locations are featured in every chapter, each contributing a different idea or novel aspect of the same style. A multipaged “Components” section appears at the end of each chapter focusing on important elements of outdoor decorating, such as paving and lighting, followed by a heavily illustrated “Ideas” spread with tips on achieving a particular look. None of the magnificent spaces in this book has ever been published before; they range from a Southeast Asian–inspired tropical garden in Florida to a Japanese tea garden atop a New York City roof, from a grand wraparound porch on a classic home facing Lake Michigan to a thoroughly modern all-white patio near Miami.
The Outdoor Living Room also includes an extensive resource section, illustrating and describing garden furniture, architectural and landscape elements, and decorative items. Packed with more than 350 full-color photographs,
The Outdoor Living Room is at once a practical sourcebook and an inspirational delight.

A carpenter's point of view.......2006-07-10
I bought this book as a gift for my husband, who is a carpenter. He makes furniture as a hobby and has improved our back patio with the addition of a handmade trellis, flower shelves and boxes, and--of course--plants, plants, and more plants.
He says, "This is a book for rich people," but as he gazes at the photos I see him drawing blueprints in his mind. Buy the book for ideas if you are rich and can pay someone else to execute them, or if you are handy and can build them yourself, like my husband. Or buy it because you just like to admire the elegant spaces where the other half plays.
I'm dreaming of an adirondack chaise lounge handmade by my husband, which I'm sure will appear on my patio one day soon.
Beautiful book.......2001-09-28
Loved this book. Beautiful photos-my only criticism is that I found many photos were repeated through the book in different chapters. I liked the index at the back of the book which listed sources for finding objects featured in photos. I also have Martha Baker's book, Garden Ornaments, and recommend both. These books have a permanent place on my bookshelf and bedside table.

Customer Reviews:
Too little time to do it all.......2006-11-22
Continually get inspired by the awesome ideas presented in this book. I should reorder a new book as mine is really getting a little ragged from use. Definitely recommend this book. Ideas abound.
Feast for the Eye, Food for the Soul..........1998-05-28
The Decorated Garden Room is an inspirational foray through the beauties of the old, worn and commonplace brought together in beautiful harmony and mingled with flowers. It is food for the spirit, a lovely adventure in masterful photography. The project ideas presented are anywhere from simple to moderately labor-intensive, but in my opinion the main value of the book lies in its inspirational value. It is a real motivator for those who wish to live surrounded by beauty, but lack the vast sums necessary to create palatial gardens. The style is whimsical and eclectic, appealing to children as well as adults. I highly recommend this book as a starting point for gathering decorating ideas, both for the interior and the garden. Those with an interest in English, cottage and country gardens, and those who enjoy unusual outdoor family projects will enjoy this book.

Customer Reviews:
Beautiful.......2006-11-06
We just bought a house near the city, and we have started to decorate it, with a very limited budget. This book has helped a lot in finding new and easy to do ideas.
Gorgeous!!.......2004-03-12
This book is beautiful! One reviewer wrote that this book is 'cutesy' ... but I have to strongly disagree. Many helpful tips and beautiful pictures to inspire you! I love it.
Too cutesy.......2002-01-09
Garden style is my style. I love it. But this book is too cutesy and the photos show some rooms that just don't look real. I don't know if they were done in a studio or what. The best book on the subject (at least it's the one I keep going back to because I always find fresh ideas in it) is Garden Style by the Better Homes and Gardens editors. I've given that BHG Garden Style book to friends as birthday and housewarming gifts too.
Lots of great ideas.......2001-05-01
I found this book to be well worth the cover price: it is full of rich photos and inspiring ideas. I don't purchase decorating books for the text, so if you do, this may not be the book for you. There are several different styles depicted within the book, certainly there is something for everyone. I do also recommend the Better Homes and Gardens "Garden Style" book: it has a similar feeling and again, many great ideas.
Pretty but a bit staid for my taste.......2001-02-24
This topic is a favorite of mine and suits my style, but I am disappointed in this book which, although pretty, is rather dull. The first book I saw on the subject was also called Garden Style Decorating, I believe, but it was by Better Homes and Gardens. The Better Homes and Gardens book has a fresher look and a wider variety of styles.
Customer Reviews:
Over the Top.......2006-10-31
Beautiful color photos that focus both on a large expansive view of various rooms and also zoom in on smaller more detailed areas. Lots of great ideas on how to place furniture and objects and collections. If you need ideas on arranging things this is a great book. However in terms of the style I personally found it to be over the top and very unrealistic of the average home. The furnishings are mostly VERY ornate and rooms are very very large which is not often the real life situation. There are very helpful descriptions on placing items as I said earlier. It is overwhelming at times though looking at the photos because the rooms have SO MUCH furniture and so much going on.
