Fans of Jenson's "First Born Son" won't want to miss this second installment of the Delancey Brothers series. Jaded cop Mike meets former nun Veronica and sparks fly! Can't wait for the next one in this series! Also a refreshing change for we older readers who know that love IS possible after 25!

Writing as Clean and Crisp as a Vintage Wine.......2002-09-05

Ms. Jensen has done it again, created two fascinating protagonists who are more than a match for each other. Former tough hostage negotiator, now vineyard co-owner with his two brothers, Mike Delancey will melt your heart. And Veronica Callahan is every bit as interesting as any heroine you could find. Her detailed plans for her future include Mike, who doesn't want to have anything to do with the former nun who now manages a daycare center at the vineyard compound.

Kudos to Ms. Jensen who created characters I wanted to know and a setting I want to see.

I have read almost all of Muriel Jenson's books. This is one of my favorites. Second in a series about brothers, inheriting a vinyard. Second to None is by far my favorite. But the entire series is a must read.

Even though I was not in the Vietnam War, I could not put this book down. Talking to others that were in the War, I found that this story was true for those who fought. Thanks to Paul Young I learned what it was like to be a marine fighting in the jungle.

I served with 1st force in vietnam in 67-68. Reading this book brought back alot of memories. Some good and some bad. The facts and stories were real and very much to the point. Great book.

Excellent book that tells what Marine Recon REALLY is.......1999-08-21

I thought that this book was great in describing what Marine Recon really is which is quietly moving miles through rough terrain and then sitting around, trying to stay undetected, calling in air and artillery strikes on the enemy, and gathering information on the enemy to support the infantry. Also, Young really expressed what it was like to expierence war with the seperation from family, being fired upon with small arms fire and artillery and the loss of good friends.

Paul R Young really tells it like it happen I should know, I was a member of first recon One of Benoit's boys. As a former member of first Recon this book his been a terriffic way for us from Duckbill to tell our story.

Second to None is a carefully researched and well-crafted account of the World War I experiences of the 58th Battalion, first raised in 1915 in response to demands for more soldiers as trench warfare became a vast dying ground for the youth of Europe, Australia, New Zealand and Canada.

Mr. Shakleton's recounting of the training, parades, transfers, raids and major engagements allows the facts of numbers of deaths, shell shock victims, wounded and missing in action to convey to his readers the horror of the war to end all wars. He supplements the battalion's War Diary with letters, maps, information from interviews and his own reading and background to fill in details that the reader needs to understand the routines that surrounded the constant killing. There is also an oblique reference to the strange behaviour of one of the battalion's commanding officers. His sober, simple, unembellished and well organized prose is a counterpoint to the chaos of the trenches where every day men saw, heard and smelled death in scenes that haunted the survivors until their own deaths.

Proud Papa.......2001-11-28

Mr Hall, as Harry Truman established long ago, parents don't like to see their children put down. I think Rick did a great job. Although he acused me of only looking at the pictures, I found the year to year histories interesting even though I am not an avid race fan. (I usually stay in the pit and garage areas when I go to a race with Rick because I enjoy the mechanical aspects of the sport). It is a very good book and everyone should buy two or three copies. They make great gifts. I should know, I received one of the first copies as a gift.

Rick Houston takes the readers behind the scenes and back in time in Second To None: The History of The Busch Series. Seldom does this "AAA league" of stock car racing get this kind of attention and exposure. From Sam Ard and Jack Ingram to the newer generation stars, the true characters of the sport emerge in the pages of this fine book. I got the opportunity to visit with Rick Houston recently and the true passion for the Busch Series comes through in every word. Does it have a lot of pictures? Absolutely! Many are from private collections that have never been seen and give us a look back at the sport before every minute of every race was captured by thousands of cameras. If you want to know how far this sport has come in the last 20 years, read this book. You'll never watch those "Saturday" races the same!

THE Book on the NASCAR Busch Series.......2001-10-04

This is a great Book! Every NASCAR fan should read this book and it's a must have for any Busch Series fan. The stories are great and the pictures are even better. Rick Houston shows why he's the best in the business.

This book is fantastic! I work in the motorsports industry, and see far too often how the Busch Series is often forgotten in national coverage. People do not realize how the Busch Series is a very large reason why the Winston Cup Series is so popular. Second to None really shows how the Busch Series developed through the years, from its early stages as the Late Model Sportsman division to today's Busch Series. The detailed stories and incredible pictures give fans insight into the Busch Series that they previously did not have access to.
Guys like Dale Earnhardt Jr., Jeff Gordon, Dale Jarrett, and the late Dale Earnhardt all fine-tuned their driving skills in the Busch Series, and this book offers glimpses into their careers along with many other series legends. Rick Houston is the best man for the job in writing this book, since he offers week-to-week coverage of the Busch Series for Winston Cup Scene. No one is better suited to tell the stories of that series than Houston.
Any true race fan would enjoy reading Second to None. Houston's story-telling is very enjoyable, while the pictures tell stories in themselves. Some are even moving, like the picture of an emotional Darrell Waltrip looking over brother Michael's wrecked car at Bristol. Just an all-around nostalgic book. You certainly get your money's worth in buying this book! Don't miss this one!

A 'MUST HAVE" for all TRUE race fans........2001-10-01

If you are a NASCAR fan you MUST have this book. The pictures are superb. The one on page 114 alone is worth the cost of the book. It is well written and gives not only a history of the Busch series but a look into the "personalities" that made this sport famous.

Wonderful, compulsively readable - the bible of hellebores!.......2000-01-06

Hellebores are some of the best perennial flowers, blooming especially in the dead of winter, and easy to grow, but American gardeners don't seem to know much about them. Here's the best book on the subject, by wellknown garden writer Graham Rice and plantswoman Liz Strangman, who celebrate an extraordinary variety of types and species.

Beautifully-illustrated (with many excellent group shots of single flowers), the text sparkles (as is Graham Rice's penchant), covering such topics as hybrids in the wild and in gardens, an encyclopedia section of the species, how to breed hellebores, the national collections in britain, cultivation, plant associations, with an entire chapter devoted just to the orientalis hybrids. There's also a chapter devoted to "people and their plants" with such sections as "confessions of a hellebore addict" and "margery fish and hellebores at East Lambrook".

Even though these are British authors, this is an easy book to transpose into American growing, with a chapter devoted to "Hellebores in America".

This is a splendid book, well worth buying.

You'll get hooked!.......1997-10-22

Warning: if you read -even browse- this book, you're in danger to get hooked to hellebores for life. The authors know what they are writing about, and shovel sage advice in every page. Several expert growers offer also their knowledge. Not to talk about the simply wonderful colour photographs, that will let you dreaming on hellebores for weeks and weeks and... Simply the best book to enter in Hellebore Land.
