Complete & accurate.......2004-07-29
This is a great book written by experts who have been involved with the breed for decades. This book was a project by the Dalmatian Club of America (DCA), which has been the breed's AKC national parent club since 1905. No stone was left unturned when covering the true nature and essence of the Dalmatian. The book is a large, attractive volume that covers every topic you can think of related to Dals. The book was written in the late '90s & the DCA staff went to great lenghts to get first-hand scientific research rather than just relaying old, outdated thoughts. Absolutely the best book available for all people who love Dalmatians!

The book is reasonably comprehensive. The authors have included the dalmation's history, a detail analysis and drawings of judging criteria, and a wonderful section on the animal's nature and traits. Whether you would like to have a friend just to run with, or to own a show dog, this book with it's plentiful color photographs and illustrations is a "must"!

This book is worth every penny--and much more! The authors have put together an excellent reference on every topic pertaining to Dalmatians: important kennels and breeders organized by era; health peculiarities of the Dalmatian; showing (including tracking, road trials, obedience, agility and conformation); the history of the Dalmatian Club of America; how to choose a puppy (and whether a Dalmatian is right for you)--and all beautifully and lavishly illustrated with color photographs. This is a definitive guide to the breed.

I took three guides on a three week trip to Croatia in 2006: Lonely Planet, Bradt's, and this one. I used the first two to learn about where to stay and eat. I used the Knopf guide to truly learn about Croatia's amazing natural and cultural offerings.
The authors cover in much greater depth the historical, cultural, natural, and archaeological sites of lovely Croatia than any other guide book. It was an invaluable resource for choosing the best places to go and what to see and visit in the country.
The book itself is a pleasure to use. It's gorgeous, well-designed, illustrated, and written. The maps were superb and the most practical and useful of any of my guide books.
The book is as useful on the ground as it is for pre-trip planning and dreaming.

A HANDSOME, FINE ADDITION TO ANYBODY'S DISNEY COLLECTION, AND I SAY "THANK GOD" FOR NO "TURN THE PAGE" CHIMES.......2007-10-08
I know these Disney Storybook CD Combo items are "intended for Children", but you can buy and enjoy them for yourself even if you don't have kids. I don't have kids. I'm just a Disney fan. I'm sick to death of customers complaning that these items do not have chimes so their kids know when to turn the page. I'm an adult Disney fan who purchases these items for a variety of different reasons and uses. I download the CDS into my computer.
I find the chimes annoying! They almost ruin several projects I've used these books/CDS for; so I, for one, say "THANK GOD THE CHIMES ARE ABSENT HERE!" I'm only deducting one star here because it is EXTREMELY DIFFICULT to remove the CD from the book. I almost ruined the beautiful book cover getting the CD out! I put the CD in a separate Jewel Case Box.
The book is a beautifully illustrated, sturdy, handsome (another "THANK GOD!") Hard-Cover. The CD narrator is professional enough, but I wish a narrator AND voice actors had been used for the characters; as a similar Disney book and CD Series, also available on Amazon, does. This Book and CD features "BAMBI," "DUMBO", "THE LION KING", and
"101 DALMATIONS."
This review holds true for the purple "DISNEY PRINCESS CD STORYBOOK" which features "BEAUTY AND THE BEAST", "THE LITTLE MERMAID", "CINDERELLA", and "SNOW WHITE AND THE SEVEN DWARFS." Both the DISNEY ANIMALS/DISNEY PRINCESS CD STORYBOOK" sets are very affordably priced here on Amazon.
Great for Bedtime.......2007-02-10
These books have great illistrations and a plesant voice reading the story. I ordered this for my 4 year old and the only problem is that it doesn't have a signal to turn the pages. It will be a great when she is ready to learn to read. It is also great for bedtime, we put the cd on and let her fall asleep to the story. She love this. I would totally recommend this product.

Read Along But No Help on when to Turn the Page.......2006-03-27
Isn't the idea behind a read along to help pre & early readers learn? There is no tone or anything indicating when to turn the page. This is very frustrating for my son who just turned 4 and received this as a birthday gift. Generally he loves these books. They are a great quiet time activity that he can do alone and they foster early reading skills. BUT...without helping him know when to turn the page it isn't any help at all, and he needs constant help. We do a lot of reading together, however, I intended this to be something he could do on his own. A BIG disappointment for both of us!

I actually got this book as one of my Pampers rewards, but am now purchasing it for friends. My 5-month old loves this book and everytime we get to the part where it says "Elmo loves you", she gets a little squeeze from mom.
The rhymes are perfect for using momease and the pictures provide ample ideas for additional commentary when she grabs the book and won't let me turn the page.

I was mislead to believe this book contained Happy Meal toys from 1999 when, in fact, it only had the first couple promotions from 1999. If you are looking for a guide to pre-1999 Happy Meal toys, this book has great pictures, descriptions and price guidelines. Also has a good section on foreign Happy Meal toys.

I bought this beautiful book for my mum-in-law, who has a place on the seacoast of Maine. She's an artist and loved the book, especially the photographs and illustrations. The book will adorn her coffee table in Maine and give her new landscaping ideas.

I don't live by the sea and have never gardened there but I received this book as a galley and I enjoyed it very much. Seaside gardeners have a lot of challenges including salt spray from the ocean, harsh sunlight, erosion and extreme sandy soil that lacks nutrients. The author writes about the different geographical environments along the Atlantic seacoast (from Maine to South Carolina) and then explains how a garden can be created in these conditions. Creating a sheltered space is essential and good information details how to find the best site, choosing a garden style, working with color schemes, improving the soil, using containers and how to use structures and hardscapes. Line drawings as well as photos nicely illustrate the text.
The middle section of the book profiles 11 different gardens in various locations along the eastern coast. These gardens are beautifully photographed and the owners describe the challenges and rewards of their gardens.
The last section of the book profiles the best plants to use and include trees, shrubs, perennials, ornamental grasses, vines and ground covers. A chart for each plant gives details as to zone, exposure, salt tolerance, drought tolerance and deer resistance. A detailed description of the plant and recommended cultivars are provided as well.

Showcasing the gorgeous gardens of Long Island and the rocky coast of central Maine, the book's 120 color photographs show how experienced gardeners have created beautiful designs working with rocky or sandy terrain, harsh sun and wind, salt air and the ever-present danger of devastating storms.
The first half of the book is devoted to design, including "The Water's Edge," "Seaside Landscapes," "Seaside Color," "Pools and Ponds," "Porches, Patios and Decks," "Paths, Fences and Trellises." Informative photo captions identify the plants, giving practical and/or design reason for choices, together with some idea of what the garden will look like at other times of the year.
There are gardens that frame views, give privacy, obscure the intrusive edges of swimming pools. Borders combine perennials, annuals and grasses; windbreaks offer beauty as well as shelter.
Among the Maine gardens pictured is the Thuya garden at Asticou Terraces in Northeast Harbor, a semi-formal herbaceous perennial garden in the style of Gertrude Jekyll which today is a 200-acre park open to the public. Mrs. Thomas Hall's garden in Northeast Harbor on Mt. Desert Island features woodland paths down to the water's edge and an Asian style garden amid outcroppings of rock. There's a lily pond from Bar Harbor and a vegetable garden overlooking the sea at West Point.
The second half of the book includes advice for various seaside terrains and weather conditions, including soil augmentation, pest control, mulching and overwintering and, of course, plant choices. Altho this book has lovely photographcs, I never got into the text due to the fact that it focuses entirely on NorthEast Coast gardening and is of no use to coastal gardeners any where else. I should have paid attention to the pub synopsis. The pics are entirely of East Coast gardens and do not relate AT ALL to the more rustic coastal areas of the West. Just a warning that this book is only for those wanting to use it to garden in the East Coast area...I didn't know & incurred the cost to send the book back.Hence, only two stars.

I felt this book was not really about gardening right on the water. Living on the water with a bulkhead, I was more interested in planting with the air and salt water. This book was more involved with hillside planting or having massive screening for shelter.

Finally a book specifically for novice coastal gardeners! How I wish I had had this book BEFORE I planted my coastal garden--I could have saved much time, money and sweat learning the what, which, where, how and when of northwest coastal planting. This is a comprehensive yet detailed book all those gardening in zones 7-9 should keep close at hand. Carla's suggestions on site analysis and planning, soil preparation and plant choices are valuable. Being a fellow Master Gardener, I appreciate and applaud her approach to sustainable gardening practices and her emphasis on gardening with few chemicals. Her writing is clear, concise and pleasant to read.

If you live on a coastline and want a beautiful successful landscape or garden this is the book for you ! Living on a windy, coastal headland we were informed that nothing would grow. With this gardening guide we have a wonderful variety of lovely plants, shrubs, flowers and grasses. Landscape architects have stopped to take photgraphs; others in our area began selecting many of the same plants we used and now we have many neighbors having the same success.

I found this book to be extremely helpful for the Florida gardener who actually leaves on the beachfront and the gardener who lives further inland.
This book is easy to read and extremely informative, especially for the Florida newcomer who is beginning to realize that you just can't grow that northern favorite down here.

The Iter Italicum is intended to provide a list of Renaissance manuscripts (1350-1600), mostly in Latin or Italian, of philosophical, scientific, philological or literary content. The list is arranged by countries, cities, libraries, collections and shelf-marks. Some manuscripts are listed on the basis of handwritten inventories (descriptions). Collections for which good printed catalogues are available are omitted in most cases. The purpose is to call attention to unknown writings of the period or to unknown copies of known works. All the volumes serve as useful reference works for scholars in the history of philosophy, the sciences, classical learning, grammar and rhetoric, Neolatin literature, historiography of the theory of the arts and of music and related subjects.
