I had to return this book before I finished reading it. This book wasn't quite what I was expecting. The first part was more like a history of cats. I was expecting cute stories about cats and their people. I can say that the second part of the book did seem to be heading in this direction. Hope to see some more reviews to find out how this ends and if it's worth getting back.

It says all countries are listed, yet they are not. And those that are listed do not have all their coins. I found only one or two of the twenty or so I was looking for.

A poor substitute for a "real" coin catalog.......2001-05-16

If you think you are getting a bargain when you buy this book for its low price, rather than spending the big bucks and buying the Krause publications, think again. There are only 48 countries listed. If you collect Austrian coins, you are out of luck. The irony of the situation is that the single most popular coin in the world, the Maria Theresa Thaler, is not even listed in this book.

If you are a beginner and you just want a rough guide to the coins these authors consider to be popular, you might like this book, but if you are a serious collector of world coinage, look elsewhere.

A big dissapointment..........1998-05-24

The book seems incomplete and inaccurate..Be *very* careful if you're evaluating coins with this book alone. In many *many* cases of world coins that have both common varieties and rare, valueble varieties, this book lists only the most common variety.

Underaverage.......2000-06-02

This book is just way too broad to be of much help to a serious collector. However, if you need a cheap, VERY quick overview of world coins, this book is OK.

Unfortunately, there are a good number of countries that do not have coins listed. I don't have a huge amount of world coins, but I was able to find only a little over half of my coins in this book.

With so many different countries' coins listed, this book can't contain very many grades of each coin.

If there is a particular foreign country that you are interested in collecting its coins, you'll want to go elsewhere for a more specific reference. This is not the book for specifics.

However, there are a few handy essays at the beginning of the book on how to buy coins, spot a bad deal, and so on. There's also some references to on-line help.

This book isn't terrible; it will give you a nice intro into a particular country's coins (if it covers that country), but for me, it's not very valuable.

A very good reference for the collector of world coins who knows where the coins are from, bu t a poor reference for coins in which the country is unknown to you. Also very limited in the number of countries that it covers.

As a collector for over 40 years, this was the first book i bought my daughter on the subject. She loves the wonderful pictures of tthe thousands of coins she may not see elsewise. If it could be better these photos could be color on glossy paper, but then i guess it would cost $80 instead of $8!

I'm returning it.......2002-10-18

Should be titled "Price Guide to Canadian Coins". Nearly a quarter of the book is devoted to detailed descriptions of Canadian mintages. ..The disclaimer in the book is that no one could possibly cover all mintages in the space given, and that only coins the average collector is apt to encounter were included. ... A number of countries are not included at all, and the ones that were get cursory treatment in comparison...

This book divides plants and shrubs into hieghts and seasons and then allows the reader to flip parts of the pages to mix and match by virtue of the pages being quartered. You can flip page sections to arrive at the perfect verticle combo, like those children's books that allow you to put an alligator head on top of a mouse body with duck's feet because the pages are divided. It's the easiest, most fun, comprehensive book on gardening I own - and I've got tons of 'em. This is a must own for anyone planning a garden, or who wants a quick plant reference with all of the most important information you need at your fingertips. each 1/4 page has the size, seasonality, care, good illustration, flash symbols, region, latin name, and brief review of the plant.

Great read but don't buy this edition.......2007-08-15

This is one of the best works of early Christianity and ALL Christians or people who study the history of Christianity ought to read it.
This edition however is not the best due to how it is printed. Moreso, it includes numbers for footnotes throughout without providing the footnotes. I would recommend buying Volume 1 of The Ante-Nicene Fathers [10 Volumes Series (Hardcover)by Alexander Roberts et al. (Editors)] which contains this work as well as those by St. Ignatius and several others.

This was a dissappointment. The name of the book is The Writings of Justin Martyr. It needs to be titled Writings on the Writings of Justin Martyr. Its a commentary on his writings, not the writings of Justin.

A satisfying teaser.......2006-08-21

Justin Martyr's Apologies are phenomenal. This book is just a quick glimpse at his works, but gives a real flavor of his passion and thinking. Profoundly relevant--especially for the church in America. He touches on issues such as engagement with cultural themes in explaining Christianity to unbelievers as well as persecution, imprisonment, torture and death for confessing faith in Christ. It's very convicting when considering how poorly and impatiently we "suffer" through our modern-day indignities. Very convicting.

About Justin Martyr, Not By Him.......2001-06-15

I ordered this and was disappointed to find that it was like Cliff's Notes. It's virtually useless unless you already have a copy of Justin's writings (and who does?). I suppose for six bucks I shouldn't complain.

Would it really have killed them to provide some extra pages of his writings, in keeping with the ambiguous title? Say, twenty or thirty pages. It's not like they're copyrighted by the author's estate. Heck, I can probably grab an English translation of Justin off the web for free. Hey wait a minute, why didn't I think of that before buying this thing?

A Companion for the Patristic Theology Novice.......2000-10-17

Shepherd's Notes accommodate readers with the basic teachings and ideas of some of Christianity's greatest thinkers. This particular volume contains sound, general overviews of all of St Justin Martyr's writings and is, overall, a good primer for his theological and polemical works. It must be noted that Shepherd's Notes is evangelical in orientation but it is pretty fair to Catholic tradition. Excellent for intro-theology students.
