Customer Reviews:
About to be owned by a Rex!.......2005-12-31
I was given this book as a gift in preparation for my new Cornish Rex kitten. I found it very informative. The author only confirmed my interest in having one of these incredible cats with personality plus++. The most important fact, for me, was her discussion of this breed's low tolerance to the pre-anesthetic, Ketamine. For the "pet quality" owner who will be spaying or neutering their Rex, this is certainly an important topic to discuss pre-operatively with your veterinarian.
Excellent book on Cornish Rexes.......2001-03-20
Greta's book is great. It is extremely informative. This is a great book for people with Cornishes in their family or ones who want to have one in their family. I learned so much more about my cat since I got her book. Excellent photos! A++++
it answered breed-specific questions.......2001-02-22
when i first got my two cornish rex, i read all that i could find on the cornish rex breed, and i discovered that there were no comprehensive books on them. i really needed some tips + how-to's specific to rexes. fortunately, greta's book provides that. the text is informative and easy to read, as well as entertaining. thanks, greta! from one owner who's happier + a little more confident in her cat care now.
A great book about those mutant cats!.......2001-02-21
This book is a wonderful reference for the Cornish Rex owner (really someone owned by a Cornish Rex!) or for people considering taking one of these balls of energy and loving, non-stop attention into their lives. These cats are a little different... and Greta Huls takes you through background, grooming, feeding, healthcare and breed standards in a very interesting, straightforward and informative way. For instance, the information on the breed's intolerance to pre-op drugs is invaluable and possibly a lifesaver. In addition, the wonderful photographs perfectly illustrate the Cornish Rex's beauty and character.
Great book for owners/lovers of Cornish Rex cats.......2001-02-21
As a devoted breeder of this wonderful breed of cats, I can wholeheartly recommend Greta's new book. She did her homework quite well and picked many breeders brains to come up with a great finished product. And a very much needed book for this breed. A+++++++++
Book Description
Pinky's family is getting a pet! The problem is, by a three to one vote, they've decided to get a cat, and Pinky wants a dog. And when they get a kitten, Pinky's sister, Amanda, says that Patches is hers. Why should Pinky care? He didn't want a cat in the first place. But Patches may have her own ideas about whose cat she is.

Book Description
Rex Tabby is the world's best cat detective. He always catches his crooks. But Ma Manx and her furry feline family are not your average cat burglars-they're the sneakiest thieves to have set paw in Whiskerville, and they've developed an appetite for stolen fish. Can Rex Tabby catch the kitty criminals before they make their next steal...or will the mischievous Manx gang slip through his claws?
Customer Reviews:
A really cool mystery.......2006-09-28
In this mysterious book, Rex Tabby Cat Detective, there is an exciting adventure ahead of you. Some of the main characters are Rex Tabby, Frankie Fluff, and Rex's best buddy Simon Meeze. These characters during the book are trying to catch a bad family. In the family is, Ma Manx and her children Rumpy and Stumpy, the worst of all! The story takes place in Whiskerville, USA. The main idea of this story is to catch Rumpy and Stumpy before they do something horrible.
The beginning of this story starts with Ma Manx and her children stealing sardines. Rex Tabby knows that the family is stealing, and goes undercover to catch them. Rex is able to arrest Ma Manx, but Rumpy and Stumpy get away. Ma Manx is sent to prison and Rumpy and Stumpy are out on the loose alone. Rex Tabby starts asking the people he knows if they know where Rumpy and Stumpy are. Then Rex Tabby gets a call to go to the amusement park to catch Rumpy and Stumpy, but is told he can only go alone. Rex Tabby brings two friends anyways, and tells them to hide. Rumpy and Stumpy are in disguise there, and Rex falls for the trick of bringing them food for the reward to catch Rumpy and Stumpy. Rumpy and Stumpy jump out of the disguise and pour mysterious powder on Rex Tabby and slap cuffs on his ankle and hands. Then, you'll have to read the book to find out if Rumpy and Stumpy ever get caught.
I enjoyed the book, and I thought it was really interesting. This book is a good choice if you like cool mysteries.
The Fantastic Detective Book.......2006-01-06
In my opinion I'd say that Rex Tabby Cat Detective would be a mysterious and fascinating book. The main character, Rex Tabby, is a brave guy and the best person on detectives in the city, He is so good that his boss always tells him to solve cases. This book would be really good if you like mysteries. One reason I like this book was because the book had real facts about how to be detectives. Another reason is it was also a bit funny and also spooky. You could say that the book was interesting because of the way the author wrote was spooky, but also funny. In conclusion, I think this book is a mysterious and fascinating book.

This is a children's book.......2007-06-27
I was looking for information on Cornish Rex cats as I have two of them. It was not obvious from the description that this is a children's oriented book.
But what's the error?.......2005-03-02
Very tantalizing to say there's only one error (to the reviewer's knowledge) and then not disclose it. It is better to light one candle than curse the darkness.
Good introduction for kids.......2003-04-01
I was hesitant to get this book since the Devon Rex book in this series was filled with factual errors. This book is much better (I only found one error) and is a good introduction to this crazy breed for kids. It is clearly not meant for adults since the language is simple and very basic. My only real complaint is that the same cats are used repeatedly in the photos and I wish they used more cats to show the breed's variety.

Customer Reviews:
very disappointing.......2004-03-02
My fault for not reading the other reviews before I ordered, but I was so pleased to find a book about Devons that I jumped right in. It is a really poor piece of publishing - there's no excuse for irrelevant waffle and obvious errors, especially in such a slim volume.
poorly done.......2003-08-01
A good read for kids but not too informative. THere are lots of erros and misidentified cats in this. Could confuse many children.
This book contains inaccurate information about the breed........1999-06-14
This book is written as a children's book and contains a lot of inaccurate information. Some of the photos depict Cornish Rex and not Devon Rex! The author had good intentions but failed to research the breed enough to write about it. I am a Devon Rex breeder and this book is disappointing.
A disappointment for Devon Rex lovers!.......1998-07-29
I have a devon rex cat and am always looking for good literature about the breed. I was very excited to get this book and will be sending it back promptly. Its 24 pages read like a kindergarten guide to pets. It's all obvious information (like--clean the litter box daily). There is nothing about this book that really celebrates or shedds light on this fantastic breed of cat.

A review of Jasmine and Rex.......1999-11-03
The obvious parallel to this book is the well-known tale of Romeo and Juliet, and in fact this book is an obvious introduction to Shakespeare for younger children. While it may not be interesting to an adult, to a child both the story and the illustrations prove to be a delight. My daughter has asked me to read it to her time and again.

Book Description
Many Americans create fantasy tableaux in their yards and gardens using pink plastic flamingos, cement ducks, wooden wishing wells, electric Christmas lights, Halloween harvest figures, and a variety of other objects. Yet this aspect of American material culture-so common in our vernacular landscapes-has received limited scholarly attention. This study explains the origins of American yard art and examines its many social and aesthetic permutations and functions. Fieldwork and interviews conducted in four regions of the United States document a wide geographic range of yard art and reveal the commonalities and variations in its practices. By integrating contemporary fieldwork data with cultural history and iconographic analysis, this work builds an interpretive framework for an important kind of public display. The analysis also yields insight into the cultural role of the American home, relationships between public and private spaces, the persistence of the handmade object within a predominant commodified consumer culture, and the role of material culture in constructing, representing, and negotiating social categories. You'll never look at a pink flamingo in quite the same way again!
