When Willa the rabbit wakes up early one morning, she pulls on her jumpsuit ("this way... and that way... until it was right.") and chicken slippers, and heads downstairs for breakfast. Unfortunately, she can't reach. Big brother Willoughby to the rescue! After waking her brother, Willa plies him with questions about getting big. Willoughby replies with exactly the kind of answers a toddler needs: "You'll be able to brush your own teeth without any help... And when you're really big, nearly as big as I'll be, you might be able to reach the moon in a rocket!" It's only when Willoughby informs his little sister that she'll be too big for toys that the pleasant future-fantasizing screeches to a halt. "I don't ever want to be big," Willa says. Fortunately, Willoughby is thoughtful enough to know when to turn the reins over to someone older, wiser, and infinitely comforting: Mom.

In this sequel to the endearing Tell Me Something Happy Before I Go to Sleep Joyce Dunbar and Debi Gliori bring back this cuddly pair of siblings for another reassuring tale about childhood worries. Gliori's colorful illustrations are a veritable patchwork quilt of patterns and cozy objects. (Ages 3 to 7) --Emilie Coulter

Book Description

Early one morning, Willa gets up and tries to make her own breakfast. But she’s too small to reach anything. Luckily, her older brother, Willoughby, is there to help--and to tell her about the many things she’ll be able to do all by herself once she’s big.
A cozy sequel to the bestselling Tell Me Something Happy Before I Go to Sleep, this gentle and reassuring story about growing up is just right for every child--big or small.

3 out of 5 stars Growing up?.......2007-07-04

I was disappointed in this story. Even for the 4-8 year olds, I found it shallow and not as fleshed out as it could have been.

5 out of 5 stars Growing-Up Story for All Ages.......2006-11-03

"Tell Me What It's Like to Be Big" is a sweet sibling story that has the potential to become a true classic. This story is about young anthopomorphic rabbit named Willa who wants to make her own breakfast and her older brother, Willoughby.

When Willa asks for her brother's help, he gets on his slippers and they have breakfast together. Willa talks with her brother about what things will be like when she's older. When Willa doesn't quite like what she hears, Willoughby provides comforting reassurance.

The pages are large, colorful and fully illustrated. There's actually quite a bit of text for a book of this type, but it's easy-to-read. Another winner from the author and illustrator of "Tell Me Something Happy Before I Go to Sleep."

5 out of 5 stars very sweet.......2005-05-26

This is a story of a brother and sister bunny Willa and Willoughby. Willa is tired of being small and ask her big brother what it's like to be big. He tells her of all the great things she will be able to do like take a bath and brush her teeth by herself and lots more. As Willa thinks about all the like big rabbits do she starts to think maybe she doesn't want to grow up.

I liked the way that the big brother rabbit made time for his little sister. I would like to see more books feature positive sibling relationships like this one does.
The story line is very sweet and will appeal to readers and listeners of all ages.

4 out of 5 stars Utterly charming look at growing up.......2002-07-10

Poor Willa. She's too little to reach the table by herself, too little to get her clothes on by herself, too little for practically any activity that makes life fun. She goes to her older brother Willoughby and begins to quiz him on how it is to be grown up. Willoughby sets her straight with gentle humor and some straight talk.

Throw into the mix the fact that Willa and Willoughby are utterly charming rabbits drawn by illustrator Debi Gliori and you get the idea of this lovely book. Author Joyce Dunbar has done a good job of showing that growing up isn't all it's made out to be, while simultaneously holding out for the idea that there's a lot of good stuff involved. ... A perfectly charming book with sweet illustrations.

5 out of 5 stars Telll Me What Its Like to Be Big.......2001-10-20

Remember what it was like to be little and wanting to be big! A time when everything would be better if only you were bigger. This heartwarming story is about a bunny named Willa who is very curious about growing up. She gets up very early one morning by herself and realizes she is too little to get breakfast on her own. Willa decides to wake up her brother, Willoughby, who agrees to help her. As he helps her with breakfast, she starts to question him about what it's like to be big. Willoughby patiently answers Willa's questions with older sibling wisdom. The painted illustrations make you feel warm and comfortable. The endpapers remind you of a cozy quilt. All of which remind you of home. Children K-3 will love this story for it's illustrations and the wonderment of what it's like to be older. Adults will love reading it for the nostalgic memories of wanting to be big and knowing what it's like when you finally get there.

5 out of 5 stars A must if you want to understand animals in your life better...........2005-07-02

Sonya Fitzpatrick has taught me that animals are much more complex than I ever knew, and that we need to stop comparing them to humans. They have abilities that even we humans don't. She is an amazing woman with great things to teach in this book. It is a very enjoyable read, and animal lovers will learn a lot. If you are a skeptic of psychic abilities, try to suspend your disbelief and give her a chance. She is the "real thing." Do it for the sake of the animals in your life. I signed up for a phone consultation through her website, desperate for answers to problems I was having with my cats. It was expensive (to me), but cost a third of what the vet bills would have. She provided me with insight into my cats, their health problems, their personalities, and offered some very simple solutions. She discussed their conflicts with each other and ways to resolve them. She told me things my cats liked and disliked, including concerns they had about things I was worrying about (but had never confided in anyone). She shared many very specific details, for example that one cat wanted me to start using placemats under their dishes again. I had forgotten that I used to do that! We all have a lot to learn from Sonya. She is a wise woman, a gifted teacher and writer.

5 out of 5 stars An Easy, Joyful Read.......2004-04-09

Fans of Sonya will breeze through this book & gain further appreciation for their animal companions with her fabulous insite. Some stories inspire laughs, others tears and you walk away with newfound respect for all animals. The reader doesn't necessarily need to believe in "psychic" powers to walk away enlightened, simply have a love for animals & a desire to better understand them.

I enjoyed the book very much. It shows you how to get under the skin of the animal and understand it, even if you are not able to "talk" eith them.
I just want to warn all Fitzpatrick readers be carful with buying. In my eager wish to buy everything from her, I bought two of the same books: one is paperback What the animals tell me, the other hardcover The Pet Psychic, What the animals tell me. I thought this was a different book, but it wasn't.

5 out of 5 stars Sage Advice, believe it or not.......2003-07-21

A note about "What the Animals Tell Me" by Sonya Fitzpatrick. Whether or not you believe her stories, this book is very entertaining and includes sage advice for keeping pets of any kind. Especially cats and dogs. I wish every current and potential pet owner would read this book and give Sonya's wise advice the consideration it deserves.

5 out of 5 stars A Must-Read for Animal Lovers.......2003-07-12

Being an animal lover, this is the most heartwarming book I have ever read. Her phychic insight and healing ability that is demonstrated in the book is amazing. I wanted the book to be longer. I hope Sonya writes a sequel. This book would also be a comfort to those grieving for a pet that has passed away. I totally recommend it!

5 out of 5 stars Pet Lover.......2003-03-04

I thoroughly enjoyed this book! Although I've been around pets all my life, I didn't understand that they can read your thoughts. I now realize that this is crucial to communicating with your pet. You can talk to them with your voice, but they get the non-verbal stuff too (unlike most humans). I used Sonya's instructions for communicating with your pet and was able to successfully "talk" to my cat. He showed me that he understood exactly the thought that I sent to him. I'm still struggling with 'hearing'/understanding my cat -- sometimes I get it and sometimes I don't. Sonya's right - you have to be completely relaxed and patient. Sometimes I'm just too busy. But I'm continuing to practice.

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful Book!.......2002-08-17

Sonya's book is great! It has helped me understand the animal world much better. Thanks to her book I am now able to better understand my cats and the animals around me. I help my family and friends with their animal problems now. I am very thankful to Sonya for helping me to better understand the world from an animal's point-of-view. I have no doubt that people can communicate with animals telepathically. If you are truly open to the idea, want to communicate with your pets, and have a true love for animals, then you can develop your ability to communicate with animals. Sonya tells in her book about the many animals she has encountered over the years; by telling people of these stories she has opened up the reader to what animals are like and how they perceive us. This book is truly a must for pet owners in order to better understand their animal companions. She tells ways to effectively get through problems that a person might be having with his/her pet and then gives helpful tips to help remedy the situation. The stories she tells apply to every pet owner. In the book, she has covered almost every animal you could possibly have. I recommend this book to anyone who has pets or works with animals. I give it five stars! Sonya truly is a gift from God!

2 out of 5 stars Cute stories but nothing more.......2001-07-10

I am trying my best to make telepathic contact with animals. To that end, I have read over ten books on the subject, this being one of them. I had problems with this book right from the start.

My biggest complaint is that this is a book, like most that I've read, of interesting stories but very, very, little on how to actually do this yourself. I buy these books so that I can learn how to do this... yet of the 207 pages in this book, 10 are devoted to teaching us how to do this ourselves! Too little for my taste plus those 10 don't give any real concrete instructions.

But there were other things about this book that stuck in my throat. Fitzpatrick opens the book by telling us how, when she was a kid, animals would tell her the towns gossip (who was having an affair, who was beating his wife, etc.)which they knew by simply eavesdropping on us. Then, further along in the book, she tells us that if we go on vacation without telling our pets first, they won't understand where we are and get scared. Huh? Which is it? do they understand our thoughts and words when it comes to planning an affair but not for planning a vacation?

If that is not enough to make you save your money then there's this...the Discovery Channel did a show on Animal Telepathy. One segment was about this woman. A veterinarian gave her six photo's of six animals from the clinic whose ailments had been already been diagnosed. She was to communicate with them and find out what was wrong with them. She blew it. She missed six out of six, not even close.

If you want a book that tells you, in explicit detail, how to do this, with exercises and background material that explains why, then I'd get "Straight From the Horses Mouth" by Amelia Kinkade. Of the ten or so books on the subject that I've read, this is the only one that really and truly tells you the how's and why's of it.

This wonderful book came into my hands just as I was going through the agony of deciding what to do for my darling little shih-tzu. He could not be healed, but the vet could keep him alive for awhile longer. I decided I would ask my dog and see what he wanted me to do. He wanted me to let him go. Such a difficult time for me
was made so much easier by having Dr. Monica's book to help me with so many of the questions that came up. How wonderful it must be to have the gift of being able to commune with animals, and write a book so we can all share in her experience, and be helped in making our pets' lives more comfortable since they do so much for us. The book made me laugh and cry, sometimes at the same time.
