The lights are up and the camera is rolling for some of the most curious and glamorous felines in Hollywood. Take a look through the lens as one cat's glorious coat gives away a murderer...a feline TV stand-in takes the heat for an edible accident...and a loony cast of cartoonists loses their real-life inspiration. The wild parodies of fantasy favorites from Lovecraft to Tolkien are made even funnier by Rogers' illustrations. Recommended to any fan who isn't an incurable sourpuss. -- New York Newsday
Product Description
The Terminationer---A killer robot from the future wants to ice Shiro for some reason, but has a date with destiny at an convention for overweight SF fans. The Yellow Brick Road Warrior---Dispatched by the Grand Wizard of Australia, Shiro finds himself driving a truck full of dirt through the outback, backed up by a tin man who's really heartless, a scarecrow who's REALLY stupid, and a lion who isn't a coward
the author's favorite Samurai cat story, even though Tomokato ain't in it much. Seven Samurai Cats---a lot more Tomokato here. Kurosawa with felines
Tomokato and his brother Shimura recruit five other samurai kitties and tangle with Mexican bandits in a lesser-known action of the Sengoku Jidai. Alienated---Tomokato and Shiro find themselves on a badly-furnished, monster-infested starship manned by geriatric character actors dying for a chance to direct. Horrible larvae chew their way through Bill Shatner's toupee
need I say more? It's a Terminated Life---Henry the Angel transports Tomokato to a alternate universe where the cat's never been born, Shiro's the Malevolent God-Emperor of the universe, and Will Rogers has met someone who doesn't like him.
Customer Reviews:
Gory, hilarious parody........1997-02-14
Drags a little compared to "Sword of Samurai Cat", but
still one of the funniest books to have come out in a
long while. Makes fun of any and every self-important
sf movie made in the last 10 years.
If you like wacky, bizzare, gory humor, this is heaven!.......1997-01-20
Samurai Cat books are not for those who desire seriousness, dignity, or good taste. But if you enjoy bizzare humor, gore & self-parody to the max, and absolutely shameless & ruthless parody of everyone else (and some darned good illustrations - the author is a painter and does his own), this book is for you. The items Mr.Rogers chooses to victimize in this installment are: The Terminator & Silence of the Lambs (The Terminationer), The Wizard of Oz (The Yellow Brick Road Warrior), The Magnificent Seven (The Magnificent Seven Samurai Cats), Alien, Star Trek, and the Predator all at once (Alienated), and a last chapter after Terminator II (Its a Terminated Life). A sample of the dialogue might suggest the general style of this book -
"""
"He doesn't know we can see him, Uncle-san," Shiro whispered.
Tomokato nodded. He could think of no other explaination for the alien hunter's behavior.
Tippytoeing in plain sight, face concealed behind a white metal mask, the creature was sneaking toward them through the jungle clearing, clawed hands clutching a huge spear. Between his swinging dreadlocks and downright comic movements, he looked rather like a Rastafarian ballet dancer from Hell.
"My sword must've shorted his invisibility device," Tomokato said. "Don't let him know we can see him."
"Okay," Shiro said, then added, "Should I whistle nonchalantly?"
"That would be good," Tomokato said. Taking out an emery board, he commenced filing his nails, every few seconds fetching a sidelong glance at the alien. Shiro was whistling "Shiny Happy People," a tune that Tomokato knew he detested; from somewhere the kitten had produced an Ed "Big Daddy" Roth Model kit, and was painting some finishing touches on Mr.Gasser.
The alien drew quite close. Pausing, he drew himself up to his full height, staring at the felines. The metallice mask bobbed as if he were laughing silently to himself.
Slowly he crouched, then tweaked Tomokato's nose. Tomokato did not react.
The alien scratched the side of his head, obviously puzzled by his lack of response. He pinched the cat's nose again. Tomokato continued filing his nails.
"I wonder where that alien is?" he asked Shiro.
"So do I, Unc," Shiro replied.
The alien picked up a bit of twig, and bounced it off Shiro's head. Shiro didn't blink an eye.
The alien stood, staring down at them. Leaning his spear against his chest, he clapped loudly. The felines paid no attention.
"WooWooWoo!" the alien shouted.
Tomokato and Shiro yawned.
The alien lit a cherry bomb and tossed it behind them. When the explosion failed to produce the slightest twitch, the alien took out a large bass drum, attached cymbals to his legs, and began marching up and back, blowing on a bugle, thumping the drum, and banging the cymbals, doing the damnedest imitation of Dick Van Dyke in Mary Poppins.
Unable to restrain himself any longer, Shiro looked at Tomokato, asking "Silly, isn't he?"
The alien halted, knees knocking together with a clang.
"Duh....SAY!" he cried oafishly, voice muted by the metal mask. Then, cymbals banging, he turned and raced back across the clearing, still beating the drum for reasons that remain murky, even for me."""
If you like this kind of humor, you will love the rest of his books.

This book is sort of a "coffee table" fun book -- pictures and quotable quotes, not a lot of data -- but it's fun and certainly a must-have for cat lovers. This is a purr-fect gift book.

Yes! This is the book featuring Hollywood cats and stars in the movies! The movies range from Breakfast at Tiffany's to Stephen King's Cat's Eye and the cats include Morris the 9-Lives cat, himself! The photos are very glamerous!
The Cat's Meow!.......2004-12-27
It's very hard to tell without a cover photo or description, but I am pretty sure this is a picture book of actors with cats. If this is that one, then it's wonderful! I love the old art-deco glamour pics of glamour-pusses with famous stars like Marlene Dietrich and Cary Grant.

Book Description
Nestled on the southern-most shores of the Great Lakes, Michigan City was established in 1836. An abundance of pine and hardwoods gave rise to a thriving lumber industry, and by the end of the century, Michigan City was one of the largest lumber markets in the state. The city's harbor and the arrival of the railroad brought new industry, from the manufacture of rail cars to glassmaking and flour mills. Michigan City even pitted itself against Chicago in a race to become the major port on Lake Michigan. The early twentieth century saw a rise in tourism as lakefront attractions sprang up. Excursionists arrived by boat and train for bathing, shooting galleries, a merry-go-round and roller coaster, and the Oasis Ballroom. As a result of the city's dune preservation efforts in the 1960s and 1970s, the city continues as a haven for water sports and a resort for Chicagoans and others in the Midwest.

Customer Reviews:
Beautiful roses for Michigan gardens.......2006-05-10
"Roses for Michigan" was a real eye-opener for me. The only kinds of roses I'd previously had any luck with were war horses like Bonica and Blaze. Now I'm emboldened by this book to try some of my catalogue favorites: the lilac floribunda "Blueberry Hill," the beautiful red climber "Dublin Bay," and the hybrid tea rose "Dainty Bess" with her strong scent of cloves and unusual burgundy stamens.
I live out in the boonies, so I order my roses through catalogues and the web. The authors of "Roses for Michigan" admonish me to be cautious when ordering from southern and western rose growers, as their roses "may be grafted onto Dr. Huey rootstock, which is not well-suited, in the long term, to Michigan."
Maybe that's been my problem all along with grafted roses, because "Bonica" and "Blaze" are own-root.
I checked out my favorite California catalogue, and they do not specify their root stock. I also wonder whether local nurseries get their roses from California.
At any rate, the authors recommend buying grafted roses on "Rosa Multiflora" rootstock for Michigan gardens, or better yet, buy own-root plants.
As with all of the Lone Pine garden books for Michigan, all aspects of buying and caring for roses are discussed, including a very useful chapter on planting roses. As I read through this chapter I began to realize why most of my attempts at introducing new roses were failures. Did you know that the recommended depth for the bud graft to be buried in colder areas (such as our state) is three to four inches?
At the back of this book is a list of resources for Michigan rosarians: gardens to visit; rose societies and clubs; garden centers and suppliers; websites; and books.
I just wish there could have been more advice in "Roses for Michigan" on how to prevent critters like deer, ground hogs, and rabbits from nibbling on my roses.
Accurate information for cold zone growers.......2005-06-16
If you live in any zone 5 or colder state and you're interested in growing roses this should be on your book shelf. Toss most guides which concentrate on tender Hybrid Teas and floribundas. This book will give you good information for growing roses in our weather, from selecting varieties to planting, to care.
The book includes a huge section of rose variety information including a photograph of each rose, hardiness information, disease resistance, etc.
The title says Michigan but really anyone living in zone 5 or colder will get great advice from this book.

more help for time travelers.......2005-08-17
History and architecture buffs will be pleased with the new, updated version of this guidebook to Michigan's state historical markers. Easy to use and arranged alphabetically by county, this guide now focuses more on buildings than on people and events according to the editor Laura Ashlee. Its range is wide, from early Potawatomi sites to a World War II bomber plant, with examples of Greek Revival, Gothic, Queen Anne, and Frank Lloyd Wright houses in between. It also covers a range of buildings types including houses, schools, churches, factories, water towers, cemeteries, hospitals and universities. It also covers the fascinating history of Michigan, from the early French settlements to the development of the auto industry.Happy travels!

Courage and Heart.......2006-05-04
These are wonderfully crafted stories. R.M. Kinder shows remarkable courage by grabbing and using phrases aptly that few writers realize are even out there. Her characters are three-dimensional, and what they do makes me say to myself, "I remember that. Yes, I was there." But I wasn't. The author made me go there in my head. She has good sight, hearing, memory, rhythm, and heart. A beautiful writer in all ways.
Do yourself a favor and read this book.
R.M. Kinder's Perfect Gift for Readers.......2005-11-13
I first met Onie, Old Lady Buckroe, and the boys at 30,000 feet, somewhere over southern California on a flight to Seattle. They were the first characters encountered in R.M. Kinder's award winning book of short stories entitled "A Near-Perfect Gift." I had chosen this book to be my companion on a two day business trip and it proved itself to be an amiable and engaging traveling partner. The story of the boys "Going into Battle" against imaginary witches, soon morphed into stories of personal "Ghosts" and the "Madman's Moon," the type of experiences we have all tried to exorcize from our own imperfect lives. As the daylight dimmed in the airplane cabin, I switched on the overhead light and entered into the yellow, dry heat of the Missouri summer, waiting with Ruth and James for their big sister Cora and her baby to arrive at the train depot. By now I sensed the "Pulse of the World," and the geographic and biographic rhythms of the American Midwest that gently bound these stories together. James' youthful frustrations and impulsiveness merged into young Mary's fierce determination and sense of injustice in "The Promise." The stories flowed together like a dream, where names and scenes change but the underlying personalities and pathos remain the same. Was it Martha or Cora who was tempted by the existential serpent in "A Winter's Snake?" Was it Kay or Martha who was fascinated by Buddy's Bartleby-like behavior while "Searching for Heroes?"
I separated from my friends for a couple of days while I took care of business but caught up with them again as the pilot turned off the fasten seatbelt sign somewhere over Portland. James had gone from driving fast cars to driving out the demons of Vietnam in "Baby Blues." His frail elderly mom, Oida (or was it Martha again?) found redemption in saving an emergent demon (or one of god's misplaced creatures), as well as herself, in a "Near-Perfect Gift." The flight attendant delivered my gin-and-tonic just in time to help me through the edgy shampoo scene in "An Intimate Gesture" and the surreal siren's song in "Friday Fisherman." The neighborhood ghost returned in "Late Fall," this time as a timeless observer of Oida and her family over the many years. And finally, somewhere during the descent toward San Diego, life both ended and was renewed "With a Change of Seasons." As I stuffed the book back in my bag and stowed it for landing, I reflected on the people, places, and themes of Kinder's "near-perfect" literary gift. No awful monsters were slain, no grails found, no heroes resurrected, no ultimate triumph of good over evil; just simple stories of everyday fears and hopes, fascinations and miracles, bound together with love and empathy.
I highly recommend this book to other readers, whether traveling by plane or in the comfort of their favorite reading chair.
