Customer Reviews:
Basic, Not Breed Specific.......2007-09-20
When I first got this book, I was extremely excited to learn about the "king of toys", but once I started reading it, I began to quickly lose interest in it. Why?
Well, for starters, this book contained very little about the breed itself, save the standard. Most of the information was for people who had never before owned a dog in their life. Since I own four dogs already and I am a dog groomer, I was expecting more from this book.
Frankly, I would only recommend this book to absolute novices who know nothing about feeding, exercise, or basic grooming. For anyone who has been in contact with a dog for 24 consecutive hours, I'd say skip this book and try one of the books in the Kennel Club or Terra Nova series.
Useful and well organized book.......2007-01-27
I was very happy with the how quickly I was sent the book. I was needing the information asap and the seller really impressed me. I have ordered other books from other sellers and have waited 4 weeks only to be told that they no longer have that book. I was impressed with the information and details in the book. It is very user friendly and one can quickly find the specific section needed with the great table of contents. I ordered the book for the training information and was happy with that as well. I would definitely recommend this book to other Min Pin owners.
Good MinPin book.......2006-05-31
It's a pretty good breed specific book. The book does include a valuable amount of information and most of the pictures are pretty attractive. I found the health section to be of particular use. Still, the presentation could have been a little better.
A great hand book for new owners of a Min Pin.......2001-03-11
Being a first time owner of a Min Pin I wanted to learn more about the breed. I bought several books about Min Pins and found "Miniature Pinschers" by Jacqueline O'Neil to contain all of the information I wanted at a very good price. The book contains information on the history of Min Pins, characteristics and standards, selecting a puppy, housebreaking and other training, feeding, Health and dental care, behavior, and caring for a Min Pin. It is more concise than another book that I bought but it contained the same information. It is full of beautiful colorful pictures. I highly recommend this book.
Customer Reviews:
One of the best Min Pin books I've read so far........1998-07-17
This book is great-it's a head above most of the other MinPin breed books which contain just a few pages of specialized information on the Miniature Pinscher, and a lot of general dog care sections. This book covers "the old greats"...one of the neatest things is seeing photographs of Carlee's Nubby Silk and "Little Daddy" then finding them in your pet quality pups pedigree. Contains a good deal of lore, and a really neat conversation between two "old school" MinPin breeders. Discusses the breed standard and how it's changed over the years. I don't breed, so I can't speak for breeders, but I would think that breeders, future breeders, pet owners and just plain MinPin fanciers would find this book as good a read as I did.
Book Description
Mastered by the Clock is the first work to explore the evolution of clock-based time consciousness in the American South. Challenging traditional assumptions about the plantation economy's reliance on a premodern, nature-based conception of time, Mark M. Smith shows how and why southernersparticularly masters and their slavescame to view the clock as a legitimate arbiter of time.
Drawing on an extraordinary range of eighteenth- and nineteenth-century archival sources, Smith demonstrates that white southern slaveholders began to incorporate this new sense of time in the 1830s. Influenced by colonial merchants' fascination with time thrift, by a long-held familiarity with urban, public time, by the transport and market revolution in the South, and by their own qualified embrace of modernity, slaveowners began to purchase timepieces in growing numbers, adopting a clock-based conception of time and attempting in turn to instill a similar consciousness in their slaves.
But, forbidden to own watches themselves, slaves did not internalize this idea to the same degree as their masters, and slaveholders found themselves dependent as much on the whip as on the clock when enforcing slaves' obedience to time. Ironically, Smith shows, freedom largely consolidated the dependence of masters as well as freedpeople on the clock.
Customer Reviews:
An original and accessible look at time and slavery........1998-11-06
This remarkable first book by Dr. Smith has already won two of the history profession's highest awards. The historical society named it the best book of history for 1997 and it shares the prestigious Avery O. Craven Award for the most original book on the Civil War era. Smith's observations of the slaves' adjustment to and manipulation of measured time are fascinating. The portrait of plantation life and the effect of the normalization of time on the South will be a revelation to anyone interested in Southern history.
One of the most important books on the South this decade.........1998-10-15
Mark Smith has produced a masterpiece. His mastery of theory and primary material is breath-taking. His willingness to take on such established scholars as Geonovese (and convince this reviewer that he is correct and they were wrong) is the mark of a confident historian.
Would that all works of history were as intellectually stimulating as this. MASTERED BY THE CLOCK is an example of the historian's craft at its best--something rarely seen these days.

Customer Reviews:
I've borrowed this book from the library 4 times.......2003-03-10
I am a graduate architecture student, and my education did not include much on landscaping. I use this book frequently to get ideas on how to integrate the landscape into my buildings. The book contains hundreds of watercolor illustrations of small outdoor spaces. It is useful for exploring material options, getting ideas on landscape integration, color options, learning how to render an outdoor space, etc. This book is good for showing broad ideas for inspiration and adaptation, not exact copying. The many styles presented could also be useful for a client who wants to describe a style to a designer but may not know the technical name or how to describe it.
Great book if combined with a "how-to" guide.......2001-06-11
The book consists of numerous sketches of decks, patios, entries, etc. It was perfect for my situation because I was simply looking for design ideas to make my patio unique and not just the traditional rectangle shape. The "how-to" books I found on patios and decks had lots of instruction but very few pictures. I was able to combine ideas from a couple of the sketches in this book and come up with a great design. Be advised that the book contains no building instructions or dimensions. It is simply a lot of ideas presented as sketches.
Only book I have returned to Amazon so far..........1999-06-16
I expected much more content. This book was no use to me at all
This book wasn't very useful, color drawings no explanations.......1999-06-04
This book only contained (not very good) color sketches of patios and landscaping. It had no explanations of what you were looking at, and the schetches did not really give you a good idea of what the "artist" was trying to convey. Looked like a school project.
Disappointing........1999-05-27
I found this book to be very disappointing. It lacks in text and supplies only limited views of structural landscaping designs via sketches.

An interesting aspect to Gregory of Nyssa.......2002-05-30
Although I wouldn't spend $... on this book it is definatly worth it. The fascinating background information is all based on previously unpublished sources and therefore of great interest to me. The style in which Zachhuber wrote the book is fascinating, especially as English is not his native toungue, as are the aspects and different thesi which he brings up within the book.
an outstanding insight to the thought of gregory of nyssa.......2002-05-25
when i first received this book as a present of a close friend of mine i thanked her politely and squashed the book in a corner of my already overcrowded shelf. only a few months later did i open it and i was immediatly sucked into the extraordinary of gregory of nyssa. the point of view given by the author is informative and facinating all in one.
i strongly recommend this book to anybody even vaguely interested in the philosophically gripping theories of gregory of nyssa and it is a definite must for any young theologian on his or her way up.
