This book was very reader friendly and would be great for someone that doesnt know alot about cats. Its short and basic. There is a chapter on why cats hiss and the authur advised that cats hissed because they were trying to sounds like a snake since most animals fear snakes. Thats alittle hard to belive... thats like saying dogs growl because theyre trying to sounds like a bear or something. Dont buy that to much but the rest of the book was good.

This great little book will make a wonderful gift for any cat lover! It provides answers to those little nagging questions that cat lovers have - like why do cats purr and where does that purr come from anyway. It is a small book, well written, and a treasure for the price.
A troubleshoot book on cats.......2005-09-26
I found this book on vacation in a book store and my boyfriend and I have read it several times. We finally understand more about our cats and why they do what they do. Why my girl cat every once and a while goes crazy running around the house making a barking noise. Cats are definitely a strange animal...an animal that takes time to understand...if you ever can.
I highly recommend this book.

"Why Do Cats Do That" is an informative book. It tells why cats do the things they do! For instance, why their eyes glow, why they purr, why the flop down on their sides when they are happy...and so on. However, this book is a bit on the dull side, and not one to really get into.

Following the destruction of Kyoto during the civil wars of the late fifteenth century, large-scale panoramic paintings of the city began to emerge. These enormous and intricately detailed depictions of the ancient imperial capital were unprecedented in the history of Japanese painting and remain unmatched as representations of urban life in any artistic tradition. Capitalscapes, the first book-length study of the Kyoto screens, examines their inception in the sixteenth to early seventeenth centuries, focusing on the political motivations that sparked their creation.
Close readings of the Kyoto screens reveal that they were initially commissioned by or for members of the Ashikaga shogunate and that urban panoramas reflecting the interests of both prevailing and moribund political elites were created to underscore the legitimacy of the newly ascendant Tokugawa regime. Matthew McKelway's analysis of the screens exposes their creators' masterful exploitation of ostensibly accurate depictions to convey politically biased images of Japan's capital. His overarching methodology combines a historical approach, which considers the paintings in light of contemporary reports (diaries, chronicles, ritual accounts), with a thematic one, isolating individual motifs, deciphering their visual language, and comparing them with depictions in other works.
McKelway's combined approach allows him to argue that the Kyoto screens were conceived and perpetuated as a painting genre that conveyed specific political meanings to viewers even as it provided textured details of city life. His differs significantly from previous studies, which typically taxonomize the screens according to their compositional variations or dwell on the narrow concerns of a single painting considered in isolation. Students and scholars of Japanese art will find this lavishly illustrated work especially valuable for its insights into the cityscape painting genre, while those interested in urban and political history will appreciate its bold exploration of Kyoto's past and the city's late-medieval martial elite.

Totally unimaginitive`.......2006-12-03
I bought this book needing some ideas for an accordian type screen once I had decided that was the kind of design I wanted to do, using pics of my cats. I also hoped to use it for future projects from the author's other examples. Well. I am going to send the book back to amazon and trade it for something else. Although the pic on the cover is attractive it leads to the false belief that the other projects in the book should meet or exceed it. Not so at all. I found all the other projects in the book dull and boring, and was incredibly disappointed. It was only after I had ordered the book that I searched in another I had just gotten from amazon, Fabric Journals, by Pam Sussman, that I found what she calls a concertina journal. Although she has only one example, it's beautifully done and with a little imagination you can do your own from hers. The book is wonderfully illustrated with complete instrustions and plans for all of the projects in the book. If you have children and a husband then DELIGHTS is the book for you. Otherwise, I was not satisfied with the projects in this book, or the author's imagination.

Another a top-notch reference from Thomas DeBaggio for herb- gardening enthusiasts. This offers detailed information and instructions for those who want to learn how to grow their own herb plants from seeds, cuttings or division. He covers a variety of herbs, from basic kitchen staples to more exotic types. Along with his book on basil, "Growing Herbs ... An Adventure in Small Miracles" has a choice spot on my bookshelf.

In the first part of this study, the theme of the union (henosis) is analysed in Dionysius the Areopagite's De Divinis Nominibus. The starting point of this inquiry is the trinitarian theology of Dionysius. He distinguishes between Union (henosis) and distinction (diakrisis), ad intra of the divine Persons and ad extra of the divines names, understood as powers. The movement of procession and conversion of the divine names follows the very structure of the treatise: from the Union to the One, a movement called "the circle of love". In a second moment, the word henosis or the formula henosis hyper noun, "union above the intellect", are analysed in the De divinis nominibus, where they allude to the "union without confusion" of the ideas one with the other, or to the union of intellect with God in the unknowledge. The second part is dedicated to the union with God in the De Mystica Theologia. The author first studies Moses' ascension and his entrance in the Darkness within the tradition of the commentaries of Exodus, such as Philo's or Gregory of Nyssa's treatises De Vita Mosis; she analyses the progress of negative theology towards the mystical union and she tries to identify the "unknown God" with whom the intellect becomes unified in the neoplatonician theory and also in the context of Paul's discourse on the Areopage. She concludes with an examination of the unio mystica and its major features in Pseudo-Dionysius.
