This award-winning book is a treasure for anyone who loves Hawaii, flowers, or great writing. The pictures are stunning - you can almost feel the texture of the plants and smell the flowers. Great new book on the subject. Horitculture is geared towards growing plumeria in Hawaii. I knew this when I purchased it and I have spoken with and like the author and his expertise on the subject. One day there will be a book that includes chapters on other growing zones. Luv the pictures.
Growing Plumerias in Hawaii.......2007-05-25
I live in Louisiana, and aquired about eight plumeria plants about two months ago. Since south Louisiana is sub tropical, the cultural conditions are similar to those in Hawaii. By reading the book and following the cultural info., I'mm happy to report that five of my plants have buds and all have and are putting out new leaves.

This book has got to be the best one released so far on the culture of Plumeria. From novices to experts in the field this book has information for everyone, from planting seeds to doing your own crosses, this book explains it all. Jim Little has shown his total understanding of plumeria/frangipani in writing this book, it is easy to follow, completely covers the various sections and is written in such a way that everyone will be able to understand what is being described plus as an added bonus the photographs are excellent and clear.

Lush colors, unique propagation techniques, variation in shapes and size, make this book a must-have in your library. I couldn't put it down and was awed by the photography as well as the amount of time and effort Mr. Little has given to his work. I hope that his son, Clark Little, continues in his stead. As one who dabbles in rhododendrons, this book is inspiring.

Can I get an editor?.......2005-08-21
Yes, the pictures in this book were breath taking, and yes, the piece was extremely well photographed. But as an editor myself, I was appalled at the poor quality of the text. It is obvious that Mutual Pub Co put very little, if any, funds and effort into editing this book. Did they think we weren't going to read the text? That we were just going to look at the pictures? When I buy a book about plants that claims that it will tell me about plants, I expect the book to be decently edited. I do not expect glaring grammatical errors (eg, confusing "than" and "then") and I do not expect a sales pitch in the middle of the book for canned pineapples. I returned this book to Amazon after I bought it. I'm going to go out and find a book that is actually readable AND has great pictures.

Severed from its parent language and from the other vernaculars, as well as from the Islamic culture and religion, the peripheral Arabic dialect of Malta has for the last nine centuries been exposed to large-scale contact with Medieval Sicilian, Italian and, later, English. Modern Maltese thus incorporates a great mass of borrowed words. This volume is a description of the processes by which Romance and English loan verbs have been integrated to varying degrees into the Arabic structure of Maltese morphology. It also proposes a typological classification of borrowed verbs in a continuum ranging from fully-integrated types to practically "undigested" loans. The contact situation described here is of special interest both to Arabists and to scholars with an interest in language contact phenomena, especially in view of the basic incongruence between the languages involved, the long period of contact, and the small area in which it occurred.
