Book Description
A lively and intelligent guide to training winning jumping horses in the 21st century.
Customer Reviews:
Excellent ,focus on the welfare of the horse........2007-01-04
The author has a sympathic, kind, knowledgable plan of training with the emphasis on the individual horse's needs in mind. Conformation, prospect selection and getting the right start are discussed. Jumper flat work is defined and described vs.classical dressage. Many useful exercises are described to improve the horse's ability to become a more ridable jumper.
The jumping exercises are well planned and well written.
A very useful book, with nice photos and a helpful sections on problem correction.
I most enjoyed the obvious love and respect he feels for his horses.
Very readable and comprehensive book that deserves a place on your bookshelf!.......2007-01-03
While I'm not intent on producing Grand Prix showjumpers, I found this well-written book immensely helpful in giving me guidelines, ideas and inspiration for training my own young horse who I ultimately hope to event. It isn't a step-by-step recipe book on 'how to teach your horse to jump', but it's packed full of information, diagrams and photographs on every aspect of training a jumper from evaluating their potential, to jumping training, to keeping the horse healthy and sound. No stone is left unturned, and I was very impressed with the amount of bookspace devoted to correct flatwork training.
It's a very readable book, especially to an amateur rider like myself. This book also includes photos that, for instance, demonstrate the less than perfect jumping poses (or, 'how not to do it') in amongst the examples that paint the perfect picture. 'Bad' examples are not always included in books even though they are just as essential in making understood a point, and it's refreshing to see these included! I also really liked the chapters on evaluating a horse's potential and maintaining soundness - good education for me and with great diagrams and photos.
Definitely a book that deserves to be added to your equestrian bookshelf!
Great Information.......2006-04-22
I got this book for my girlfriend who is interested in showing jumpers. She has read it from cover to cover. It's packed with information and ideas and overall gives a good overview of the sport and provides the average horse person with enough information to get started.

Crazy Horse Story.......2007-06-08
The story was interesting but it was repeated over and over throughout the 6 CDs. It could have been done in about 2. It might have been less expensive that way too then.
QUIET THUNDER; THE WISDOM OF CRAZY HORSE (AUDIO).......2007-01-07
I have and will purchase any and all books and or audio tapes that Joseph Marshall III writes or produces. He is an author of sterling caliber and his work is amazing! My first purchase was "The Dance House" which is a compilation of short stories. One read and I was "hooked"!!! I would recommend anything that Joseph Marshall writes to anyone that is remotely intrested in the Native American culture or in history, as it actually happened!
I agree with Andrew.......2005-12-03
Excellent Content, horrible packaging. I bought this to expand my own Native library as well as a history resource for my teenage son.
Even if it was packaged like the standard boxed set for album catalogues, I could deal with that. It could be stored with my other media. C'mon, for that price and the fact that this is reference and not "just a book on CD," it should have been packaged nicer.
Poor Packaging for the Price.......2005-04-28
Excellent content as one would expect from Joe Marshall; however, for the cost the packaging is pretty cheap - cardboard case with oversized folding cardboard inserts - with a thin, loose paper (non-laminated) outline of the content. A small written booklet, and plastic cd case as per DVD's would be better. The $60 list price is way too high .. thank goodness for the AMAZON discount.

A FANTASTIC Easy Guide--Well Worth Your Purchase!!!.......2007-03-06
Gage Slade's review initially made me decide not to buy the Jumps, etc. book! Further insight changed my mind--and I'm glad!!! I advise all prospective buyers to ignore that cranky person's review and read on. Remember, this book has approx. 75 pages of information, so it's concentrated and doesn't waste your time. It is not an encyclopedia nor a college-level construction course. But in those pages are sketches with detailed measurements, shopping lists (another review falsely accused it of being vague with that!!!) and tool lists. It also gives great advice I would have never known. The jump section is fantastic and very detailed in its measurements of particularly-named wood pieces. We will be first-time jump makers and this book is just the helpful guide I wanted!!! The book has a small, detailed section on MEASURING and SETTING UP the LINES for a dressage arena which is very helpful. My club kids are starting to do dressage and this will help set something up quickly wherever we want. It will also help at the fair show that I help at when we set up the already-existing chain set. It understandably assumes you already have proper footing AND chosen arena fencing--just as the jump section assumes you have your choice of arena fencing. It DOES give good ideas on what they suggest for the dressage letters and dressage arena borders like chain or rails, and HOW TO place the stakes as well as measure the letter placement. But, good grief, its purpose is not to lecture on arena fencing (just like jump arena fencing is not). Once measured out, how hard is it to lay out chain...or lay out cinder blocks and boards ...or railroad ties? Choosing what arena border to have takes just a little simple homework: What do the big shows use? What is our budget? This will determine whether to buy the pricey mail-order sets or go down to the lumber store and buy the materials yourself. I suggest to the disgruntled buyer, Gage Slade, that they buy a book specifically on full construction of dressage arena FENCING because this book's title, JUMPS, etc., says what it is: mainly Jumps and some etc. Even so, each different jump, cavalletti, or wing standard gets about 1-2 pages each, so having 5 pages for setting up a dressage arena actually takes the majority!!! (btw: 9 pages were on stable equipment: Mounting Block, Sign Post, Saddle Stand/Storage Box, Portable Saddle Rack, and Grooming Box...also Jump Logos, Jump Image Painting). Buy The Book. It's Well Worth It :)
Great for ideas.......2005-09-21
Good visuals and details, especially when working with someone not familiar with jumps. Also includes constructing stable products, such as tack boxes, saddle racks, mounting blocks, etc. A few color photos would have enhanced the presentation.
great instructions on building jumps and other horse equipment.......2005-07-09
The majority of this book is about building a wide variety of jumps. Also covered is stable equipment and dressage arenas. Covers: Determining Your Jump Needs, Shopping for Materials, Tools You'll Need, Shopping Lists & Construction, Notes for Jumps and Other Equipment, Basic Schooling Standards, Deluxe Schooling Standards, Wing Standards, Slant Wing Standards, Jump Poles, 12' X 2'6" Panel, 12' X 2'6" Picket, 12' X 2'6" Gate, Coop, 8' Cavalletti, Rolltop, Flower Boxes, Brush Box, 12' X 12' RR Crossing Planks, Mounting Block, Sign Post, Saddle Stand/Storage Box, Portable Saddle Rack, Grooming Box, Paint Brightens the Ring, Logo Jumps, Setting Up a Dressage Arena, Recommended Reading, and Safety Checklist. Thorough instructions. Very usable.
dressage arena, yeah right.......2005-03-09
Do not buy this book if you are looking for ideas concerning dressage arena construction. It is ridiculous that "dressage arenas" is in the title. In a 71 page book, five pages involve dressage arenas. Most of that space discusses measuring out an arena. I was looking for a serious discussion about the constuction options available: wood, pvc, temporary, portable, etc. Our riding club needs to replace the barrier on two sand rings this year. If you need to build jumps this book might be helpful, for dressage arenas it is a waste of money.
Could Have Been Better.......2003-03-05
We recently purchased this book to help us make jumps for our pasture. Initially, it looks and sounds great. The shopping lists are great also. However, the instructions for cutting and constructing most of the jumps are very vague, ie, "cut 2x4's to size." There would be no mention of angles or length and sometimes the picture does not match what is happening in the instructions. Plan on doing a lot of figuring out as you go. It would be helpful if angles were specified and more detailed correct sketches were given. Also, sometimes the jump would be listed as a 2 foot jump, but the picture is 2'6" and the instructions weren't clear. Some of the jumps, especially the brush box, for safety, needs to be able to be tipped over and the feet required reworking.

Great Book!.......2001-12-27
This is a book anyone serious about jumpimg should own!! Can't say enough! Wonderful book!
Customer Reviews:
Good book but.......2005-07-13
the font is teeny-weeny. The content is excellent and so are the photos, but even an 8 year old would need reading glasses to decipher the print.
Book Description
A complete handbook for anyone wanting to buy or install a small-scale irrigation system for the lawn, garden, or backyard.
Customer Reviews:
Misleading title.......2000-01-25
This book is titled for DIY but nearly every chapter seems to start with advising us to consult with and/or hire a professional. I got more information on planning and layout from websites of system manufacturers than from this book. There is a reasonably good summary of different types and it might be OK as a guide if you're planning on hiring a professional anyway but this is not a DIY nuts and bolts kind of guide.

Book Description
Students of Thomas Aquinas have so far lacked a comprehensive study of his doctrine of the transcendentals. This volume fills this lacuna, showing the fundamental character of the notions of being, one, true and good for his thought. The book inquires into the beginnings of the doctrine in the thirteenth century and explains the relation of the transcendental way of thought to Aquinas's conception of metaphysics. It analyzes "Being," "One," "True," "Good" and "Beautiful" individually and discusses their importance for the philosophical knowledge of God. Medieval Philosophy and the Transcendentals: The Case of Thomas Aquinas is intended as a contribution to the question "What is philosophy in the Middle Ages?". It argues that the doctrine of the transcendentals is essential for understanding medieval philosophy.
