This excellent book goes into great detail about the many situations when fishing for walleye. It is especially good for beginners as it tells the big three, when where and how! The special situation section goes into weeds, rocks, timber, spawning and cold weather. Beautiful illustrations and pictures help explain likely sites to begin looking for fish.

This is a great book for anyone intrested in walleye. Info is presented in short, to the point chapters with highlites, how to's and great pictures. I find myself going back to it again and again.

I recomend this book to anyone starting to fish walleye's or to one who has fished walleye's all thier life. Dick Sternberg has done a great job with this book. this book covers all the modern age knowledge of fishing walleyes.. lures, where to fish, and how to fish livebait, Dick has covered it all!!!

I bought both this book and Al Linders Walleye book. Save your money and do not buy this book. Al's books are extremely detailed and full of uselful techniques covering all situations for walleye fishing. Great on the biology and life cycle of these fish. This book was not worth the money!

These guys really know their stuff! The cool thing is that you can pick this book up and find useful tips and info throughout the book just as you need it, or you can read it from cover to cover. Either way you will become better at fishing for walleye and understanding how to work their suggestions into your situation.

If it says IN Fisherman on it, Buy it! They produce some of the best books and videos on freshwater fishing. Period! Full of current, scientific, and practical advice on the species you are after. If you don't learn from this book, then you probably helped write it.

Al Linder has done it again, This is the only book you need to by if your fishing for walleye.This book has it all from time to fish for them to how and where. The ins and outs of jigging, rigging, live bait, crankbaits. All the stuff you need trolling, driffting, and also all the equimpment for all types of walleye fishing. If you don't catch more walleye with this book than you did not read it. I love it and have read it over and over and learn more and more every time. Covers all seasons from Ice to the spawn to summer suspending fish to fish in weeds and rocks. Buy it you love it!

For generations, the Ojibwe bands of northern Wisconsin have spearfished spawning walleyed pike in the springtime. The bands reserved hunting, fishing, and gathering rights on the lands that would become the northern third of Wisconsin in treaties signed with the federal government in 1837, 1842, and 1854. Those rights, however, would be ignored by the state of Wisconsin for more than a century. When a federal appeals court in 1983 upheld the bands' off-reservation rights, a deep and far-reaching conflict erupted between the Ojibwe bands and some of their non-Native neighbors. Starting in the mid-1980s, protesters and supporters flocked to the boat landings of lakes being spearfished; Ojibwe spearfisher-men were threatened, stoned, and shot at. Peace and protest rallies, marches, and ceremonies galvanized and rocked the local communities and reservations, and individuals and organizations from across the country poured into northern Wisconsin to take sides in the spearfishing dispute. From the front lines on lakes to tense, behind-the-scenes maneuvering on and off reservations, The Walleye War tells the riveting story of the spearfishing conflict, drawing on the experiences and perspectives of the members of the Lac du Flambeau reservation and an anthropologist who accompanied them on spearfishing expeditions. We learn of the historical roots and cultural significance of spearfishing and off-reservation treaty rights and we see why many modern Ojibwes and non-Natives view them in profoundly different ways. Dr. Larry Nesper's 13-year journey with the Lac du Flambeau Indians becomes a thoroughly enjoyable and scholarly example of modern ethnographic work. The book meticulously details all of the issues relevant to Ojibwe spear-fishing and treaty rights as 1) native tradition, 2) cultural conflict (conflict both within the native culture, and between the native population and the State of Wisconsin), 3) inter-cultural legal conflict and controversy, and 4) an example for current dialogues regarding ethnicity and ethnic conflict, ethnic prejudice, and racism. Nesper clearly outlines all pertinent issues of the 25-year "Walleye War" from every angle, and conscientiously works his way through them, all the while carefully explaining different cultural perspectives. Even though Nesper states that he has become friends with many of the native people about whom he writes, he does not let his own feelings of friendship taint the truth. I recommend the book for enthusiasts of native culture, academics (especially those teaching cultural anthropology), and anyone interested in the history of, and current issues regarding, treaty rights and the relationship between native cultures and state or federal government entities.

All About Annuals.......2003-06-11
Some gardeners tend to look down their nose at annuals. I've seen T-shirts with the saying "Friends don't let friends buy annuals". Planting annuals sometimes seems like owning a mongrel dog on a street where all the other dogs have pedigrees. Well, I have a mongrel dog and I plant annuals, so I was happy to see Larry Hodgson's detailed and careful book "Annuals for Every Purpose".
Annuals are those wonderful little plants that bloom their little hearts out every growing season, being humbly content to be poked into what otherwise would be a bald spot in your garden. Still, I think many writers would think it below their dignity to produce a book about them. Larry hodgson, however, a well-known garden writer and lecturer, has produced a knowledgeable and down-to-earht book on the topic. It's one of quite a long list of books he has written, and sister to "Perennials for Every Purpose". Like that book this is very readable for the novice, but quite detailed enough for the more experienced gardener.
Hodgson is an old hand at presenting gardening information and this shows in the competent way he organizes his material. The first part is titled "Annual Gardening Made Easy" and it covers all you need to know from preparing the site to designing with annuals and keeping them alive.
The second part helps you choose the best annuals for your purpose or needs. You look at the Table of Contents to select the purpose - drought-reistant perhaps, or giants for the back of the garden - then look through that section to select the annual you think will do best. To help with your decision the writer lists basic information such as height, spread and hardiness for each species, and gives you growing tips, lists pests and diseases andgives you some recommended varieties and ideas for neighbouring plants.
Annuals for Every Purpose has a source list and a list of recommended reading. Kudos to Rodale for publishing a beautifully illustrated and informative book on this topic.
A Must Have for a New Gardener.......2002-05-04
As a novice gardener, I have found this book to be an invaluable resource. When I'm not studying it at home and planning my next flower bed, it is in my tote bag going to the local nurseries with me. When I find a flower I like, I look it up to get more details and find recommended companion plants.
Although I've not found the plants to be nearly as available in my nurseries here in the Atlanta area (I've had a little more success with mail ordering a few), there are still some great features to his book.
My two favorite features are:
Organized by Plant Type - The book is organized into sections such as General Purposes, Drought Tolerant, Flowers for Containers, Foliage for Containers, etc. It has helped me as a new gardener focus in on plants that fit my need rather than reading about all plants and determining what's right.
Good Neighbors - This is probably my most used section. For every plant, there is a "Good Neighbors" section. In this section, Larry lists several plants that would do well with the plant being described. Especially for a novice gardener, this section is great to help choose a plant that is not only going to look good alone but gives you some companion suggestions to put together that gorgeous bed or container.
ANNUALS FOR EVERY PURPOSE.......2002-04-26
WHILE I LOVED HODGSON'S PERENNIALS FOR EVERY PURPOSE, I FIND THE ANNUALS FOR EVERY PURPOSE BOOK A LITTLE LESS HELPFUL, BUT WOULD STILL RATE IT A 3.5-4. THERE ARE LOTS OF PICTURES OF THE ANNUALS, BUT MOST OF THEM ARE CLOSE UPS...SOME OF THE CLOSE UP PICTURES YOU LOOK AT AND SAY "WHILE I KNOW THAT IS THE CORRECT ANNUAL, IT REALLY DOESN'T LOOK LIKE THAT FROM A DISTANCE OR IN THE GARDEN". HOWEVER, THE SECTIONS FOR EACH ANNUAL ENTITLED "PROBLEMS AND SOLUTIONS" "GOOD NEIGHBORS" AND "TOP PERFORMER" ARE STILL HELPFUL....HOWEVER, I AM STILL LOOKING FOR A BETTER ANNUAL BOOK... LANSING, ILLINOIS
Look no further for a book on annuals.......2002-02-04
This is THE book you'll need on annuals. I've been looking for two years for one that sorts flowers by use and growing conditions and tells you everything you need to know. Others make all annuals sound like they'll be successful in your situation. But as someone who strictly grows only annuals (I have a rooftop garden), even treating flowers according to directions in other books doesn't always work. This book will save you money in the end. Buy it!!!!
