Customer Reviews:
Interesting..........2007-07-15
Interesting content on the development of this "non-breed" but not particulary helpful for what I was looking for. I would've liked to see the puppy coat types as they change develop into dogs...important for picking out a pup from a litter. The chapter titled "Breeding" shoud be changed to "genetics" or something, I was frightened it would be a "How-to" chapter...thankfully it was NOT.
Also, I think it has some of the most disappointing Goldendoodle photography out there! I have been surfing the web and have found much better looking pictures and more variations of Goldendoodles (coat types, colors, sizes, natural/clipped coats) than this book offers. So if you are looking for pictures, I would just do an image search...it turns up much more satifying results.
The "Puppy Aquisitions" assumes the only way to geta Goldendoodle is through a breeder. Some tips and info on finding one through a rescue or shelter wouldve been nice.
Overall it was an interesting study of the recent history of this mixed breed.
Nice text about doodles.......2007-05-12
I loved all the photographs and informative tips about goldendoodles that were in this book. We got our new puppy from the author and she did a wonderful job raising our pup for us until we took her home.
Worth your money!.......2006-06-08
As the soon to be owner of a goldendoodle pup I was eagerly awaiting the arrival of this book. I couldn't find any other books on these marvelous dogs. I sat down to read a few pages and found myself reading it cover to cover. It is an easy read- packed full of useful information for someone considering a goldendoodle, as well as the new owner and some fun facts as well. I especially love the enthusiasm that comes through by the author. You can tell Kathryn loves these dogs and knows her stuff. The pictures are great too! Now I really can't wait to get my pup!

I LOVE IT!.......2006-11-10
I love this calender. It is hard to find things for the "Goldendoodle" breed and she is the love of my life. They all look so much alike so it is like looking at my own dog on this calender.
Goldendoodles calendar.......2006-11-10
Just what we ordered. A great calendar of pictures like our own Goldendoodle.

Outstanding.......2000-09-15
I own two of the actual revolvers pictured in this book that I acquired from large personal collections, and I eagerly reference my copy every time I acquire one of these rare pieces from the transitional phase of Colt's cartridge revolver development. It is thoroughly researched, and every model is dissected and thoroughly photographed. Not just the guns are featured here, but the leather! There are rare military and civilian holsters pictured here that you may never see in three collector's lifetimes!! N.
A void filled.......2000-08-25
As a historical shooter of percussion and western arms I bought a replica of an 1860 Richards Army conversion and then found an absolute dearth of information about it. Mostly all that could be found were references to this type of weapon but little information. McDowell's book fills a longstanding void about this transitional era in firearms between percussion and cartridge. This is a definitive work with substantial documentation that resolves what is an inherently confusing topic. These types of revolvers are being made now with the growth in Cowboy Action Shooting and shooters are always avidly interested in the history of their weapons. This is a plethora of photographs and diagrams which resolves the sequence of development of these types of arms in such a way that the student of these arms can get a full understanding of their circumstances of development. With this book a great void in firearms history is perfectly filled in.
complete and informative at each page: rare.......1999-09-26
When I opened this book for the first time I thought: "too long an intro. But I was srong anything in it is there for a purpose. It's rare to see such a work. Bravo !
All you want to know about cartridge conversion revolvers........1999-04-08
Excellent study of the various models of cartridge conversion revolvers. It's all here S & W, Colt, Remington, and others. Great photos of the guns. Well documented and researched with details of every gun right down to how many were produced and any variations during production. Reccomended to anyone who desires to know more about the early cowboy guns before the 73 Peacemaker came along.

Customer Reviews:
I greatly enjoyed this book.......2005-01-16
In arid west, water is a scarce resource that has been taken for granted. This book provides many good ideas on how to have beautiful yard while using less water. One of the best parts of the book is the summary on different plants and their water requirements. Many in the west don't realize how much beauty they can bring into their landscapes by adding xeric natives such as penstemons, agastaches and the like.
One of the best guides to xeriscape plants to experiment with, I recommend this book to all western gardeners who would like to use less water and provide more cover and nectar for wildlife.
Gardening WITH Nature (instead of against her).......2000-03-15
This book was written for those of us who live in the arid west, love to garden and desire an attractive landscape, but who are faced with an uncertain water supply. As water resources are becoming more expensive, and in some cases rationed, we all need to consider how to garden appropriately for the climate zone in which we live. This book begins with the rationale for water-wise gardening, takes the reader through an easy to understand planning and design phase, and finishes up with excellent photographs and plant descriptions. Xeriscaping is definitely the wave of the future, no matter where you live!

A Truly Beautiful Book.......2002-10-05
This book captures the beauty and spirit of Colorado. Mr. Keen has a rare talent that allows him to transport us to places of extreme beauty through his artistry. An added bonus to this book is the companion cd where he shares his expertise with his readers. If you want to experience Colorado, pick up this book, sit back and enjoy.
Wonderful Majestic Views.......2002-08-28
As a longtime resident of Colorado I have loved looking through the photos of the many places I've hiked and visited over the years. The pictures of the mountains are awesome. When I am citybound, I just pick up the book for a reminder of how wonderful Colorado is. The crispness and color in the book make these photos belive you are right there, standing in the very space the photo was taken. You don't have to live here either to enjoy this book. Many of my out of state relatives love it! Highly recommended!
Best gift/coffee table book on the CO Rocky Mountains!!!.......2002-08-28
I own this great book on the Colorado Rocky Mountains! Every page shows breathtaking pictures in the Colorado Rockies... from quiet streams and meadow wildflowers to the towering aspens and "purple mountains majesty". The best gift/coffee table book that I've seen in a long time and certainly the best of the Colorado books. We were able to see this book and a display of a dozen or more of Jim Keens panagraphic images at Denver International Airport in early 2002. The 3 x 8 foot enlargements were awesome! I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a good book to buy as a gift --- and you'll enjoy it so much you'll buy one for yourself as well.

Book Description
This guide describes 590 species, with detailed information on flowering season, related species, range, and habitat. More than 100 plant drawings supplement these descriptions, and more than 200 color photographs show flowers as they appear in the field.
Customer Reviews:
Unusable .......2007-06-03
I ordered this book in preparation for my own trip to Colorado & Wyoming because I love my Peterson's Guide for Wildflowers for the Eastern US. This was a horrible disappointment. The flowers are organized by botanical families and species, instead of the usual organization by color and appearance. The key in the back is supposed to be organized by pairs of questions, but the numbering system is confusing beyond use and whoever put it together apparently doesn't know how to indent. I hope to prevent someone else from wasting their money on this book.
A botanical travelling companion.......2007-03-18
The photography is excellent. The line drawings are even more detailed. The descriptions are very useful. The interesting facts are often fascinating. I expect to field test this guide in July when I visit Alaska and British Columbia this summer. That will be the real test.

And the truly unique feature of this book is the hiker was horticulture professor.
Organized by color, Rocky Mountain Flora has all the features of competing titles such as images of each flower, taxonomy, and detailed descriptions. But the unique features of this field guide include a Life List for the serious wildflower enthusiast, the specific location, elevation, and time of year that the flower was found and a special feature called "LOOK FOR" that helps with quick identifications.

Customer Reviews:
No color pictures.......2002-07-26
Major disappointment. Probably a ton of good content. But the little stick drawings of plants, at best, and no drawings a lot, for most, is a real let down.
Yes, She Really Does Understand What it's Like Here!.......2000-03-27
The author has spent her entire life in the mountain west, has degrees in horticulture and is a retired Colorado Cooperative Extension Service agent. She implemented the Master Gardener program in Boulder County, and she's one smart lady!
This book is a real compendium of ideas suitable for mountain and intermountain areas. She not only describes what works--and what doesn't--but tells the reader why. The first section includes chapters on landscape planning and design, followed by a section on cultural procedures. Want to plant a windbreak? She tells you how. Need to know how to prune a tree without destroying it? It's right here. And much, much more. Hyde mixes contemporary wisdom and knowledge with "old-timey" country skills in chapters on protecting plants from flood, frost, hail, heat, ice, lightning, vandalism, wind and Ol' Man Winter. Other sections focus on specific plants for the mountain west and the garden necessities, including tools.
I live on small acreage on a northern Idaho prairie. There are gardening books I've enjoyed more, but none that have helped me as much as this one.
Book Description
North America is replete with beautiful aplines, and this guide is equally useful to the traveler or the gardener for its identification, propagation, and cultivation information.

Best in Class.......2005-06-07
Get it if you can find it. Nelson's classic is one of the best, most thorough field guides to Rocky Mountain Plants - flowers, trees, shrubs, grasses - ever written.
I own about 10 different botanical field guides, but Nelson's is the one I always turn to when I need to verify a find. Spectacular reference work.
